I was told this was the best inpatient treatment center for ptsd there is. I thought I was hopeless before going. I was wrong! I left rock bottom. This program is a waste of taxpayer money, and detrimental to the health of real combat veterans that need help. There’s been numerous veterans take there own lives at this facility. The doctors treat veterans with contempt, like we owe them something. Why these supposed medical professionals seek employment within a government program to help veterans other than a guaranteed paycheck is beyond me. They want easy cases to keep their numbers up. When their program doesn’t work they blame the veteran by saying “They weren’t ready for treatment “. Not only did this program not help, it confirmed that there really isn’t any help out there for us at the VA! It should be an insurance not a health care provider! They don’t care about our quality of life, or the lives of our families. That conclusion comes from many experiences, not just one bad. If you need help, seek it outside the VA. There are people who really care, and devote themselves to helping soldiers that have tried and failed or have no idea how to help themselves.

This facility may be confusing to navigate and sprawled out all over the place with little rhyme, nor reason, but the staff is all about serving veterans of all campaigns and of all ages! I felt welcomed and people even stop to help you if you get lost and stop what they're doing to actually help you. So far the experience has been very positive! As a veteran, you can also go fishing along the shoreline and try your hand at a fish or two!

Being an RN for 10+years and the daughter of a US Air Force Dissabled Veteran, I have never been so appalled at my own profession! I first hand have watched them negligently dismiss acute medical situations and do no further investigation time and time again. To the point of forcing myself and dad to rely on non VA emergency rooms and hospital systems at high dollar to do the leg work because they are not willing to! The communication or better yet lack of amongst nurse, doctor and patients is absolutely appalling… The medical attention and care they provide to the men and women who served is a dishonor to this country and a slap in these poor men and women’s faces!

I personally have never been a patient here. However, my significant other is a Purple Heart veteran and he is a patient here. The lack of compassion and urgency this place has is outrageous. He has to call at least 4 times before anyone answers the phone. And we went to the ER about 5 months ago and they wouldn’t let me in, but they did let another person in with their family member. Whatever. It is what it is. However, he was in there for 6 hours and he decided to leave because it was 1am and they still hadn't found an answer as to what was wrong. And the final straw, he had an appointment to check his current leg a couple months ago. The doctor said his bone was wearing down a little from this leg not fitting properly anymore, normal. The Doc said he would rush the order due to the bone. It has been 2 MONTHS and still no new leg parts. I’m so let down by this place and sad for the veterans that are forced to go here. Hopefully something changes because the experience my boyfriend has had for the last 5 years he’s lived here has been awful. These people need to step up their game. THESE ARE OUR VETERANS!!!!

Bay Pines never answer the phone and you can never get a nurse on the line. Today in the eligibility office I met the most caring individual I have ever encountered in the VA. I have had so much Trouble trying to get registered at this VA but today the male Spanish employee, which I unfortunately forgot to get his name was absolutely wonderful in his help and guidance. I was finally able to get the help I needed. This combat vet is an exemplary example of what every employee at the VA should strive to be like. He showed so much empathy and compassion for every single person he spoke with. Truly an outstanding person. If it wasn’t for him bay pines would’ve received one star.

It's a shame that all of these people who are giving them a 5 star rating don't know what good healthcare is. Most likely it's because they used to go to a different hospital that was much worse. The reality is that the doctors are told to not administer or prescribe anything that would be expensive and to overlook or downplay any serious conditions that are not an immediate emergency. Because most veterans live a good distance from any VA Hospital it's more likely that an emergency will end up with the veterans going to the nearest non VA Hospital for treatment. They lie about the waiting periods for appointments and they act as if the money for everything comes out of their own pockets. It wouldn't surprise me if they got annual bonuses for saving the hospital from expenditures.

Bay Pines is hands-down the greatest VA hospital in the country. Some of the facility is dated and there are other VA medical centers that are more "modern" but Bay Pines is an amazing location, well laid out, exceptionally maintained, and the staff is EXTRAORDINARY! If you visit this facility, take a stroll out on the pier or take a walk on one of the paths to enjoy the water views and the historic Spanish architecture. The engineering department is continually improving the infrastructure while preserving the historic buildings! Thanks again for making my visit amazing.

I have been to many VA clinics and worked for over 12 years with the VA. My care has been wonderful here. I heard employees laughing and joking with each other. There isn't much to laugh about working at the VA, it was so nice to heard laughter. It's a seed to happiness. Please support laughter 😃 😀 among employers it's infection.

I’m a pre-9/11 disabled Army veteran. Due to my chosen career, I’ve moved several times. As a result, I’ve had the opportunity to get acquainted with VA hospitals in several states: Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky and, since 2017, the Tampa-Saint Pete area. Bay Pines is the best VA facility I’ve encountered. Staff makes every effort to provide top notch service. The campus is beautiful. In every way, Bay Pines surpasses the other VA facilities I’ve encountered. Right down to parking (don’t scoff: parking is a nightmare at the Louisville VA hospital), Bay Pines provides area veterans as pleasant and easy an experience as possible. There’s lots to complain about in this area: the heat, the traffic, whatever. Bay Pines isn’t one of those things. If I ever leave the area, the healthcare provided by Bay Pines will be one of the few things I truly miss.

I'm a homeless veteran and I recently received some care and I was told that based on my low income my medical would not be charged to me that's number one. Number two being homeless means I don't have an address and the US postal service has a service in place called general delivery for which I can receive mail if I have any mail which I don't Staff members of the hospital have asked me several times where do I receive my mail and I told them at general delivery which they have on record but it seems that they're not receiving my comments because then the next question they asked me is where do I get my mail which was the exact words from the patient advocate after I explained it to her and for which I hung up on her because I can't deal with stupidity I've entrusted my medical care and my health to these people who I feel are not listening do not comprehend and when I explain it to them repeatedly they still don't get it so how do I know that when they're cutting my finger open or prescribing medicine for me that they even know what's going on with my health I'm very very doubtful that I will let them care for me again in the future if they don't understand simple sentences that I say to them Everybody is so God damn preoccupied with their phone that maybe I should just send my explanation in a text so I get their attention My God what has happened to people

When I lived in Colorado the VA hospital there was about average, since I moved here to Florida and go to Bay Pines VA hospital it is much better. I’ve been treated with great respect at that hospital and I have an awesome primary care physician, Dr. Augustine. I really appreciate all they have done for me in the seven years I’ve been in Florida and the staff there is a class act

This is a superb establishment that has given me some of the finest medical care imaginable. The entire staff here (and I mean everyone) aims to please. I had a surgery done here where they discovered complications and they went WAY above and beyond the call of duty. I feel comfortable and secure when I am here and I know they are giving me the best advice possible. And working hard to live up to their pledge. When they say "Thank you for your service" they mean it. Have confidence here.

I had a dermatologist appointment for mole removal. I was already seen twice in Bradenton. Drove over an hr to go to bay pines and they didn’t know why I was there. They had to look at my chart. They didn’t spend more than 20 seconds with me. Told me it’s not cancerous and make a follow up appointment in a few months. Even if they aren’t cancerous they still bother me tremendously because of the placement on my body. My clothes are always rubbing up against them and they hurt. My very first time at this VA, and the experience was horrible.

It's hit or miss. The property is beautiful, it's a scenic drive. However the process and the building locations are so inefficient. I've had amazing doctors and nurses, but usually all other parts of the VA are trash. You may be sent down winding roads, to 3 buildings, and multiple floors as people try to help you find where they moved a doctor or lab to. Half of my medical care I pay out of pocket because beyond my PCP, none of the other doctors have put effort in to helping out.

Recently had cataract surgery at BP and my doctor and her team made my day surgery and follow-up a very present experience. Everything was fully explained ahead of time and went like clockwork. I know that there are folks that have issues with VA care, but honestly it has been every bit as good as, if not better, than treatment I received when I had commercial insurance.

Ok let me explain my review please. I was never a patient here, only drove around the campus. I am a veteran and am interested in possibly living in the Bay Pines area and using the VA. As other reviews said, a very random campus with spread out buildings. Seems Iike if you had a dermatologist apt and an apt at another clinic after- you would have a major walk possibly. They do have shuttles. That's what I personally saw. Otherwise I was somewhat impressed but at the same time some buildings looked very dated or even historic. The parking looked packed. I wish the VA would build a tall modern hospital tower with a parking garage. And do it properly with correct sized facilities and amount of staff, parking, etc.

Worst VA Healthcare I’ve EVER received in 25 years !!! Worst VA mental health care I’ve EVER received in 25 years !!! I have always loved VA Healthcare until I came to this VA … Everyone has their own opinions about this VA and that’s ok I’m speaking from my own personal experience

This ER needs some serious work! Came in at 10pm with severe anxiety. I am having to face my husband for the 1st time in court for domestic violence since he tried to kill me last month. I got nurse Robin, what a nasty individual!! No compassion, no bedside manner, rude, disrespectful, kicked my friends out of the room. She asked me "what do you want tonight". All I wanted was something to take the day I was going to see him for the 1st time since the bruital attack. The doctor came in and was also very rude. He would not give me anything that would help me. I ended up walking out in tears. I got out to the waiting room and paramedic Chad was there with my friends. He was so amazing! Chad talked to the charge nurse about Robin. Chad got me a drink and had me sit until I calmed down a little bit. From what I understand this is not the first time Robinhas been this way with veterans. She needs to be fired. I will not be coming back to this VA ever again. Domestic violence survivors should not be treated this way!

My husband was in the VA here They were wonderful and compassionate. He eventually passed away due to Agent Orange. His last days here in hospice were peaceful and they took very good care of him and showed care for me. I think they are great.

A great place even kinder Personnel. VA maybe should consider training private hospitals and doctors I give them 101% rating keep up the good job

Have you ever wanted your healthcare to be handled by DMV employees? Well now you can! Have you ever thought, “I’d like to spend an entire day trying to get an ID card and fail”? Then this is the place for you. The VA is the worst crime ever committed against veterans and every interaction you have with them will confirm.

Dr. FARMER, ENT "physician" jyst called me with sinus culture results. Again, it is + for PSEUDOMONAS, a very virile and dangeroum6s 6report which also shows antibiotics to which the bacteria are sensitive for appropriate treatment. "Dr" FARMER, however told me he is "not comfortable treating this infection because it requires IV antibiotics". I am horribly allergic to cipro & levaquin, unfortunately, the only oral antibiotics that will treat pseodomonas. Despite the fact that I just had a failed total knee replacement (not a VA dr), FARMER is refusing to treat this horrible, symptomatic infection (CLEARLY NOT JUST COLONIZATION!) thereby making it not possible for an orthopedic surgeon to carry out a procedure to, hopefully, allow use of the knee. This infection has, multiple times in past, caused sepsis. Farmer is, not for the 1st time, putting my life at risk by refusing treatment.

I love the care I have gotten at Bay Pines for 30+ years. However I am seeing longer wait times for appointments, especially in the specialty clinics. I have waiting about 2 1/2 months for an optometry appt May 22. I just received a call that Dr Miller is out for a family emergency and the next available appt for any optometrist is the middle of August. That adds another 4 months to the 2 1/2 I have already waited. There should be a fee basis system set up if there is a certain wait time for appointments. I will probably end of going private pay.

Had appt today in Urology. I was nervous and uncertain. Nurse JJ and Nurse Cathy had wonderful bedside manner and made my visit reassuring and less stressful. Thank you so much.

VA hospital with a large multi-building campus. Offers a large range of services to veterans. It's in St. Petersburg Florida and is such a good hospital that seaonable VA snow birds save medical services for this hospital even if they have a VA hospital where they live. It's very clean and the staff is efficient. I highly recommend veterans use this hospital. It has several satellite clinics in nearby cities also run efficiently. Major services are referred to St. Petersburg.

I had. Biopsy done Tuesday and have to compliment everyone in the room with me. Appt was on time, Doctor, tech, and Jennifer, the nurse were all friendly and caring from the time it started all the way to the end! With my stress, they all relieved my anxiety and made me smile!

My stepdad has been in here for the last few years. I think the nurses, doctors and staff are awesome. The most annoying thing is the constant change on covid Restrictions. One day you can walk right in no problem. Next day you can't even get in To see your loved one. Following day you have to take a covid test to get in. Next day you can walk right in. It gets the point of ridiculousness. I don't necessarily blame the VA. I blame the higher power In charge Making stupid decisions.
