Went for a dinner on long holiday weekend. Really huge place with lots of tables. Beautiful ambience and very neat service. We ordered dosa, Kerala parata, rotis accompanied with some gravies & veg biriyani. Everything tasted mild & good. But not advisable for sharing India families. The quantity for the price is questionable.

Excellent food and service!!! We had Spinach chaat and Bangalore Masala dosa, the taste is out of world. Even mini dosa is more than sufficient!! If you are after south indian food, you will love it there!!! Highly RECOMMENDED!!!

The food here is exceptionally good. We ordered Sambar Vadai for starters and the vadai was so fresh, crisp and delicious. My vegan husband was very happy with the Vadai and Sambar. Tried the spinach chaat for the first time and it was really good. The Kerala Parotha and the naan were the best for me. Soft and fluffy. No complaints. The customer service was excellent too. They were very polite and helpful. The dessert menu could have more options for vegan but the rest were just amazing.

Had lunch on Friday with two friends . We ordered a Banquet from the menu . The dishes were very tasty with unique spice flavours. The nan bread was fluffy and fresh. The Waiter was friendly, polite, efficient and dressed in Indian attire. The rich food did not give me indigestion. The restaurant is very clean , as is the kitchen and the toilets. This is a world class restaurant which you should visit.

Excellent south Indian restaurant. Menu may not have all the south Indian dishes you are looking for. If you are planning to go on a weekend ensure you have the table reserved. Good customer service . There is a party hall too. Dishes are expensive compared to other Indian restaurants but the taste and quality of food justifies it.

Worst Food ,overpriced and very disrespectful service from the staff at this so called south Indian restaurant. You need to train your staff to learn how to interact with the the guest and learn some customer service. I was very disappointed about the behaviour of your staff, to tell the customer with children to wait outside, will inform you if we have a table. I was invited so I kept quiet but I thought I should share my experience. I will not be back and will let others know about this experience. You should be ashamed of such a poor customer service.

I Visited the restaurant around 7 Pm yesterday looking for good south Indian food. In return, I got evil behaviour from one of the staff wearing glasses and asking for a reservation. I was with my brother, sister, partner, and a 4-year-old nephew. The staff member told the female friend that you are looking very desperate and was talking some nonsense. I will never visit this restaurant and will make sure non of my friends and office colleagues see the same.

IF MALABAR IS THE LAST INDIAN RESTAURANT LEFT IN THE ENTIRE NSW, I WOULD STILL NEVER DINE IN THERE. (READ IT AS 0 STARS) I am an active contributor to Google Local Guide where my submitted photos have over 300 thousand views. I like exploring restaurants and have visited Malabar too in the past. Yesterday we had a few friends accompanying us and we thought of having South Indian Cuisine for dinner. We drove from Watson's Bay to Crows Nest (Over 20KM) as I recommended them to try Malabar for South Indian cuisine. I went there checking for a table, and to our shock, the response was preposterous. All we asked was "Can we have a table for 5" and the response we faced, we have never experienced by anyone anywhere ever. The manager was so rude that I can't express it in words. On enquiring further on why is he responding so rudely, he pointed a finger at one of our friends and said "Because she was looking desperate for a table". I should sue him for this behavior. He literally behaved as if we were some people with no money who came begging for food. We understand, that sometimes the restaurant is busy and you might not find a spot. It was a miss from our side as well as we should have reserved a table before visiting. Everything is understood but the way you treat your customers shows your class. I am happy I did make any booking as I do not want to contribute to a place who are in the HOSPITALITY business but lacks basic etiquette on how to treat your guests. Can't believe we drove 20+ KM with a 4-year-old Kid for this. An experience we will never forget. I assure you none of my friends or acquaintances would ever dine in Malabar Crows Nest.

Definitely some of the best South Indian food I have had anywhere. Highly recommended for food, cleanliness, and service

SO YUM! Have to try the masala dosa - crispy and slightly chewy pancakes stuffed with the most delicious soft clouds of spiced potato! Malai kofta was also on point. The wait staff were super attentive but not intrusive, really liked that they offered to cut the mango kulfi to make it easier to share!

My friends and I just visited this restaurant for some south indian brunch. It was honestly, the best south indian food I've had since I moved to Australia. The samosas, vadas and dosas were delicious. Felt like I was back in India at a local restaurant. Their desserts were great too!

Always a delight to eat here. Dosai was by far the best and service was great. The butter chicken curry could have been better but otherwise another great experience

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat. Have eaten here multiple times and the food is always excellent. The service was great and the team couldn’t have done more. I’d highly recommend the butter chicken and the Palau paneer. However an absolute must is the Keema dosai !! Soooo delicious!

We had a group of four and thoroughly enjoyed the food. The entire meal of entree, main and dessert were all so full of flavour and delicious. It was a very busy Friday night, but the service was absolutely excellent with very friendly staff. We would definitely rate the Malabar as the best Indian Cuisine (we have been to many Indian restaurants around Syndey). Will definitely go back!

Authentic South Indian food after a long time. Loved every bit of it, coffee was good too. We had their special masala dosa, samosas and vada. Very filling and worth the money. Will come back to try their main course too.

We visited the restaurant for a special festival onam meal for lunch. The food was alright but could have been better . It’s sister restaurant in king cross last year served a better tasting onam meal compared to this one. They were quite understaffed which hampered the service they could have offered.

We’ve always had great food here, tonight we were a party of 16 celebrating a birthday. Food was delicious, several courses of banquet and generous portions. We were even offered more if we were still hungry. Great attentive service, especially considerate of the special diets too. Thank you to the Malabar team, we’ll be returning.

Your food is great but when I was asked to move our pram (it was using space available next to us in front of a table I could reach with my am stretched). I said it was not 4 square metres away (covid safe) so surely they couldn’t use that table. The staff member said “it was Saturday night and they needed it (for customers) and that Council was ok with it”. I’m sorry but heath of customers should ALWAYS come first. Not impressed.

Ordered North Indian and was amazingly surprised to have such an authentic North Indian food in a South Indian restaurant ? Even gulab jamun was served hot and fresh. Will definitely come again.

Food very good and service reasonable. However need to quantify the pricing of the entree where a minimum of two people required and the price shows as $18. This price is actually per person. Very misleading!

Tiny curries and Indian bread. They have picked few good with Indian items. There is good choice of items for non vegetarians. For vegetarians as well it's not bad. The okra fry curry was awesome. It has disabled toilets. Staff was friendly and quick service.

This place is a really good indian restaurant. We had to cross the bridge to get there ! We went there for a get together dinner party about 10 people. The food was great and the service was excellent. It can get very crowded at times making conversation difficult. The dosa is amazing.

Cozy place to dine in. The chicken biryani was great. Vada Sambar was crispy and tangy. Good service, very clean and quiet.

A good range of dishes with the perfect balance of flavours and spices, served in a spacious setting by friendly staff with the option of BYO wine. The fish and goat curries are standout, as well as the vegetarian option of eggplant and potato. It also has its own parking round the back.

Best Indian food in Crows Nest. Now that we can only do takeaway, the quality of food is still high. The dosai is always a treat.

Good service, adequate portions and great quality authentic flavors of south india. If it were up to me I would want to see 90% of the so-called Indian restaurants menus found abroad converted to South Indian style cuisine. These dishes are complex and delicate, which is why it’s so rare to find South Indian restaurants abroad. Malabar has nailed it. If I lived in Australia I would eat here several times a week. Thank you for a great experience !

Solid Indian option in an area filled with them. Service was great, food was delicious and the meal came out quickly. Perhaps a little too preprepared, but very good

I chose to have my birthday dinner here as our past experiences have been lovely at malabar, had a light homemade lunch in anticipation of a tasty dinner. I had masala dosa, family had paneer palak, lamb palak. as soon as we exited after billing, we looked at each other and said either the chef is changed or he was having a not so good day, the palak was bland and tasteless.the dosa was not the usual taste, the potato filling a spice less blob, couldnt put a finger on it but it was not the dosa I have enjoyed so many times before, the service had been very good so no complaints with that, but the worst was to come at 1am, I was violently sick, throwing up, stomach ached with gastro/bacterial toxins. settled within an hour after my body threw out the toxins. Either the potatoes or sambhar or chutney were stored at the wrong temperature. I have felt the same nausea on rare instances when I got food poisoning. Not going to run down a good restaurant, would just ask them to have a GOOD look at the temperatures of food storage again. Needless to say we were very disappointed this time with a restaurant which has been our favourite in the past.

One of the finest South-Indian restaurants in Sydney. Impeccable service, great ambiance, and delicious and authentic South Indian food. Probably the best Dosa in Sydney! The chefs here have been around for over 30 years! Love to visit this place again and again!

  • 1/5 Amit J. 4 years ago on Google
Well, Malabar is supposed to be good with all the hype around.. But with dull dosas to below average main dishes.. It disappointed me. The cherry on the top was rude behaviour of our server Shiv. Won't recommend this place. Dakshin and WaazWaan are much better.

    Great south Indian food.

  • 3/5 Rohan K. 4 years ago on Google
I will say the food is ok as the audience is more Australian so they are making food for them - to taste their palates. What I like best, dosas - they are really good and goan fish curry.... Next thing was kulfi

  • 5/5 Anish J. 4 years ago on Google
Fantastic authentic food in Sydney! Definitely try the Kerala Beef curry, the Okra Masala, Malabar specials, and the Malabar paratha (flatbread). This flatbread is different from your usual naan, but goes so well with some of their fantastic southern Indian curries! Love it love it love it! :)
