Disappointing overall experience when you go in with high hopes and they drop extremely quickly. Arrived with a group of friends and had a reservation. We were asked to check-in with the states recommendation however they only had an electronic check-in available and no pen and paper to manually check-in as per guidelines to those enforcing this. I advised the staff of this issue and to the shock horror witnessed on their faces when someone doesn't have a modern phone was outrageous. They simply could not grasp the fact that people do not have smart phones and simply mobile phones. After an argument about this and their unwillingness to provide the pen and paper, a friend inevitably checked in for me. NOTE TO OWNER:- staff member was the young gentlemen with tattoos notably the 2 above the back of the leg just above the knee with spreader looking earrings. We arrived at our seats and were provided with the menu. The variety looked amazing and decided to try a few things off the menu and see how we went. When asked what drinks we wanted we ordered sparkling water prior to the mocktails but were hounded all night long for refills and top ups on the sparkling water. If we wanted more we were capable of asking. As a vegan, I can tell where the food comes from and the products that are used. The seafood they used (calamari, prawns) are all frozen Lamyong branded products with a bit of flavoring added to them. The mock meat was flavorful especially the Cheeseburger Spring Roll (even though it was super overpriced for a single spring roll) and the Chorizo and Potato Empanada. The Guacamole was disappointing and could make a better version at home. We tried all the taco's on the menu and would only recommend the Confit Mushrooms and Carnitas. Overall after spending a couple of hundred dollars, this was a disappointing experience and would not recommend this to my family, friends or colleagues.

For a $25 set menu for all of this food you really can’t go wrong 😍 Vandal is a vegan Mexican restaurant with amazing flavours you “can’t even tell its vegan!” All the food is delicious and really filling. Service was also amazing staff were really quick and attentive. Also they really get you on the margaritas! I had three and they all tasted so good I have to come back to try all of them! Would definitely recommend making a booking if you want to go and parking is a lot easier on week nights!

My husband and I were across the street getting a tattoo consultation and decided to get dinner. Since Vandal looked really good from the other side of the road, we decided to go and give it a try because we love tacos! The staff were friendly- gave us a seat immediately and asked if it was our first time (yes it was) and we were convinced to get the set menu. Were a lot of things for $30 per person and it seemed like a good deal. They have a good cocktail selection too - still in theme. It wasn’t until our 3rd plate that we realised it was a vegan place 😂 the server did mention the word vegan during the intro but we just thought we heard it wrong. This made us change our mind about what we thought about vegan dishes and will definitely come back for the corn and the mushroom quesadilla! So excited to try the other things on the menu as well. It was overall a great experience and a good surprise!

Love every visit we've had to Vandal! The food is so unique and delicious, I can't rate it high enough! Drinks, service and ambience are great, we love catching up with friends here.

Really loved the friendly staff! Amazing decor. It's all vegan which is just perfect for me - so much variety! The lychee elderflower drink was delicious. Food wise - head straight for their tacos. They are deeeelicious! Will 100% be back for more tacos and drinks. Husband and I had a great time!

This was by far the best value for money set menu I have ever had. I highly recommend trying the $35 set menu. The apple pie sundae was a delicious add on to the meal. The margaritas were well made too. Great friendly service and colourful interiors. I’m keen to visit this venue again and try more dishes.

I'm usually a meat eater with a side of veggies, but I was pretty gobsmacked with their set menu. Stand out dishes would have to be the cheeseburger spring roll and the fried squid taco. You could not tell that there was no meat in either of those dishes! They do really well with balancing of their seasonings and the textures to make such an awesome pair of dishes. Really worth the price for the set menu to try even if you are a meat eater like myself. Staff were all very friendly and Tom was a great host who was thoroughly entertaining :)

Absolutely loved this place. Beautifully prepared Tacos ( vegetarian options) at good price (6-7 dollars) . Attentive service staff and well organized. Treat yourself to a bottle of wine and enjoy the lively and good ambiente . Also try the nice cocktails! The place is very popular so be prepared to wait for a seat.

Incredible value for money at $30pp for a seven course meal. All the food was delicious, flavourful and had good sized portions. Everything is vegan but we went with a group of meat eaters and everyone loved the food. Cannot fault anything

Delicious vegan Mexican inspired food, so good you don't notice it's vegan! Friendly staff, food well priced - we got the $33 banquet. And dessert. We were stuffed! Can't wait to come back here again.. so happy there is finally a restaurant in this space that's successful and good, precious ones sucked!

I dare say it was one of the best vegan restaurants I’ve ever been to. As a lactose intolerant person, I am constantly trying to find places to eat that can cater for my allergies and also my taste buds. I can’t help but compare it to dairy/meat filled food. I must say that the nachos were better than any nachos with meat I’ve ever had before. The cream and cheese substitutes were almost like the real thing. I was so happy to eat a meal I liked and could digest. Every single meal hit the spot. We left feeling full, satisfied and very pleased with the service we received. We were very impressed and will be back!! P.s. if there is only two of you we recommend buying the nachos, cheese burger spring rolls and 2 tacos (bulgogi was amazing). See you again!

My 1st Experience at a vegan restaurant! It was so much fun! The food was delicious! The service was amazing!! So kind and helpful! I tried their set menu but wanted halal items. They were so courteous,.informed me which items had wine and completely removed it from the ite. or swapped it with an equally delicious winefree option! Must try their Churros! Had a wonderful time! Will come back soon!

My partner and i ordered every item on the menu and every bite was absolutely delicious (maybe 2 were not our fav) followed by mouth-watering churros for dessert! The customer service was outstanding thank you Thomas :) Highly recommend! See you soon....

Fantastic vegan eatery with mouth-wateringly good food. Even if you’re not vegan, you will enjoy the food! There are creamy cheese substitutes and tasty meat substitutes that are better than animal products. They are also very accommodating of allergies. Lively atmosphere with graffiti-style art on the walls. The staff are super friendly too. If it’s your first time, try the set menu for $30pp, you can’t go wrong! The consistently fantastic food, atmosphere, and staff bring me back here again and again.

YUM. Great vegan food. They offer a $35 set menu which gives tastes of almost the whole restaurant’s menu. Such great value for money. I’m obsessed with their ceviche tostadas. The eggplant taco is my favourite from the taco menu - it’s surprisingly meaty. Also the staff are so nice and friendly.

Visiting for the week and did a search for vegan food and I scored! It’s rare to find vegan Mexican food, and this place nailed it. Excellent service, delicious and unique food, and cool artwork. I also got lucky to be here for taco Tuesday and the bar tender makes amazing drinks.

The wait staff are unsure of the dietary requirements of dishes and instead of saying they’re unsure they will pretend they know what the dietary requirement of the dish is. We asked a lady twice if the dish was gluten free and she said it was only to come back 3 mins later telling us it wasn’t. I think ALL the staff needs to be trained on the importance of what allergies can do to people and it’s not something that can be treated lightly. It was a very appalling experience unfortunately. Otherwise the food was decent, the tuna dish actually tasted like tuna, and the banquet is very affordable for $30 per person.

Can't fault this place! My partner and I went for dinner twice in four nights during our trip to Sydney. Everything we ate was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. The service we received from the staff was excellent, and the restaurant itself has a very relaxed vibe with warm lighting and big bifold doors that allow the front of the restaurant to be open and create an al fresco feeling. Will definitely came again anytime I'm in Sydney.

Been here for my birthday. My vegan GF booked us a table close to the kitchen area. I am trying my best to become fully vegan on my own and I am always there. Let's say that this place and its delicious food was the tip of the scale that made me completely abandon my traditional omnivore diet. Seriously, vegan or non-vegan, you must try this. Very welcoming and inclusive staff, diverse menu with a focus on tacos of course, a feast of flavors. It made the top 3 of my favourite fully plant based restaurants in Sydney.

It was such a lovely evening at Vandal. The service was quick. Abii was so helpful and cheerful. Really loved the atmosphere and the dishes. The bartender Bibek made fantastic drinks . We really had an amazing experience trying vegan range. Cheers to the team. Would come again for another amazing experience.

I ordered the set menu and each course was truly delectable! The flavours were amazing and I loved the variety of offerings and reasonable price. I was looked after and felt that the staff was helpful and went above and beyond to ensure a satisfactory experience. They were great at bussing tables and the pacing for each course was perfect. The atmosphere was unique and added to the overall experience of the meal. The stand-outs for me were the mushroom quesadilla and smoked chili and maple chicken taco. This place truly takes plant-based food to the next level and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Thank you to everyone who made my night and meal so special!

Classic set menu $35pp (vegan, gluten free) - guacamole - 5/5 fresh and tasty pico de gallo with crunchy corn totopos - ceviche tostado - 4.8/5 wait what? This no fin 'tuna' ceviche tastes SO similar to real fish?! Pairs beautifully with the citrus ponzu, guac', créma, slaw and chilli. ‘Tuna’ was a tad too salty. - chargrilled corn - 4/5 very convincing cheesy coating. Yummy corn. - crisp zucchini flower - 5/5 fav. That creamy stuffing is delicious and the flower is beautiful coated in a crispy shell. A satisfying morsel with the red sauce. - wild mushroom quesadilla - 4/5 you’ll love this if you love mushrooms. A mellow filling fungus meal. - taco (your choice) - charred lam’ - 5/5 again, incredible mock meat. It somehow tasted ‘fatty’. Great flavours and I liked the addition of pomegranate seeds. - churros, dulche de leche - 4/5 not the type of churros I was expecting, but it was an amazing freshly made stick of dough that was crunchy and fluffy. Went well with the caramel gelato and sauce. - Crema catalana with berries - 2/5 would have to be my least favourite dish. Berries were fresh but the crema just falls apart and was very shallow. Overall: 4.8/5 ⭐️ WOW! nothing is perfect and I’ve never given a 5/5 but should I?! This is one of the best (vegan) food I’ve feasted on. The innovative meats were amazing and I didn’t feel like I was missing out on cheese either. The addition of chillies was delicious to me. Would recommend such an affordable and delicious meal! Wonderful customer service and ambience as well.

Loved our experience, it was fantastic! Food was mind blowing, we couldn’t believe it was all plant based! Service was fantastic, very attentive! It was a bit loud and hard to talk at our table but the rest made up for that!

What a great experience! A very good value set menu, at only $35 per person! We had the blood orange cocktail, which was nice and spicy (not for the faint hearted). Each and every dish was unique and delicious however the eggplant tacos were a little disappointing. The service was prompt and the staff were friendly. Definitely would eat here again!

Food was delicious but the restaurant should consider adding more staff on Tuesday nights. Took ages to get our order taken and drinks arrived halfway through our meal. Nonetheless, great tacos and quesadillas!!

Amazing food and great service. First time so we got the set menu which I highly recommend, not only is each item delicious but it's great value for money. Cocktails were good too. One of the best meals we've ever had (only 1 of us was vegan - so good for non vegans too). Can't wait to return

I just keep coming back - it never disappoints. This is honestly the best possible place for vegan feasting in Sydney. Everyone will be impressed, non-vegans included and won’t even know it’s vegan if you don’t tell them. Seriously just tooooo gooood! Great value on the set menu (just over $30pp) the corn is smokey and delicious, the Peruvian chilli chickn katsu taco is BOMB. The freaking TUNA TOSTADA wowzers. It’s a delicious time!! Food 10/10, ambience 10/10, service 10/10, drinks 10/10. Can’t fault it. You’ll leave satisfied and stuffed.

Absolutely delicious! Very busy restaurant so ensure if you book in advance especially for a weekend dinner. The set menu is very affordable and very generous - I could not finish all my food even though the variety of textures and flavours were amazing. My favourite dish is the "raw tuna" ceviche - it's incredible and I can't believe it's vegan. Great taco varieties too. Easily my favourite Mexican restaurant in Sydney. I recommend this to everyone especially those who are trying to impress their non-vegan friends and family. It's that good!

What a WINNER for vegan food. The service was great (shout out to Von) and thoughtful, decor ‘vandal’ style. And the food was just CHEFS KISS. Don’t worry about the guac if you are getting the ceviche tostadas as they taste very similar. We loved the Mac & cheese croquettes. Not the cheeseburger rolls as much… the beef tasted quite soy-y. Cauliflower and prawn tacos were winners.

Went late on a Friday night without a booking and they sat us at the bar. Ordered corn, croquettes, 'cheeseburger' rolls and tacos. All very tasty. Margaritas are awesome too!

We had a real feast at Vandal on taco night and definitely ordered too much but that didn’t stop us from eating everything. The traditional margaritas were great but I found the passionfruit one a bit too sweet for my liking. Friendly service and cool venue in the heart of Newtown, I don’t normally like Mexican cuisine in AU but enjoyed my meal here

I've been to the venue this Tuesday - they were full and still managed to accomodate me and two friends. Even with the busy environment, the service was great and the food is absolutely delicious. Definitely recommend the set menu, you pay $30 pp and get a substantial amount of food. Worth it!!!

Beautiful food, service and presentation. Very good price for a banquet style meal. Great for groups such as birthdays or work events. The mocktails and cocktails were all very tasty. My favourite was the ceviche and grilled corn. Very playful yet complex flavours and textures. I could not believe it's all vegan!
