Amazing! Stunning! Incredible! Words can't describe how fantastic this whole experience is!! Both the kids and self loved it!! The tour is very hands on, there's lots of stuff you can touch and play with. Our tour guide was a little quirky, as you would expect, which only added to the experience. Really want to go again cause you can't take everything in on your first visit.

Went with my sis on Fri, my second time after a number of years, her first. Loved it! If you've got sensory issues maybe take the shortcut on the Fauna route, otherwise all good. Did the scene building workshop after, fun albeit fast. Learnt a few tricks in the process and enjoyed the group.

I loved visiting Wētā! Our guide Catherine was very cool and shared lots of cool information about the different projects going on and the interactive nature of the different areas! The animatronic Jeff was awesome, as well as the sculptures, the storyboards/props in the different zones. I found a greater appreciation for how much work goes into creating different worlds and props. The details are incredible and everything looks so realistic (I could see some hands in the bin and didn't even want to touch it iykyk). It was an incredible experience and would definitely recommend it.

We've had a super fun tour with our guide Rory - he is so excited about everything, super funny and so happy to answer questions. You just have to love this guy! The tour is very informative, you'll learn a lot about film making and art. I really loved this little "behind the scenes" tour, it really has changed the way I watch films now. Also the gift shop is really nice for Lord of the rings- and Hobbit-fans, since you can see some costumes, miniatures and encounter a life-size model of Lurtz. During the tour you also have the chance to get creative yourself and make a little souvenir out of tinfoil. Also thanks again for inspiring me to try to make some more stuff out of tinfoil at home, Rory! :-) Highly recommended, it is a super fun activity!

The shop is expansive, and expensive. The staff were really cool, fun, outgoing, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. We did just the guided tour and we so wanted to love it but unfortunately the guide just wasn't great. It felt like they had a script and couldn't remember the lines so kept forgetting what they were saying and going back over it again. There were also not many (or any) kids in our group and the pitch seemed a little infantalising to a group of adults. The effects were spectacular and the props were just incredible ... Which is what we went for, obviously. The tour is about 90 minutes long and takes you through different "rooms" with different themes. A great intro to props, and Weta. Next time I'm in NZ we'll make a date to go to the Wellington workshop.

Unfortunately very lame. The tour was suited for children. The tour guide continuously addressing a group of 20 adults as junior apprentices made it very awkward..i felt like saying “please read the room”. They have obviously put in a-lot of effort and the props were great but a 1.5 hour tour about movies we have never seen was very boring, we wanted to get out of there. Perfect for a group of school kids…not adults. I wish this was portrayed more in the information online.

It was an awesome tour behind the scenes of horror/sci-fi movies prop making, creative tools, models. Our guide Paige was great 👍 thanks. Glad we didn't bring the baby, the loud sounds, flash lights and monsters would've been scary. Would recommend, totally worth the visit.

A great experience for all ages whether you’re a visitor or a local. It was cool to see the whole behind the scenes process at Weta Workshop. We did the 90 min Unleashed Guided Tour and it was totally worth it. Our tour guide Brook was awesome. She made it fun and insightful. She deserves a pay rise!

Fabulous experience! If you're a fan of films and special effects, this is a must-see in Auckland. You don't have to just love the Peter Jackson films! There are plenty of interesting and cool things to check out in the 90-minute tour of the workshop. Loved our guide Maddy! She's funny and knowledgeable.

This is an underrated exhibition that is a "must visit" for anyone interested in art, movies, photography or storytelling. I feel like it should be a mandatory part of the school curriculum. It's also a great place for fans and collectors. Costs are reasonable and the actual tour takes around 90 minutes. You will need to book ahead as places fill quickly. Toilets are available upstairs but disabled access at this facility is poor, Frames should be able to cope but wheelchairs will not. There are some frightening scenes which may be unsuitable for the very young and there's a "scary section" that can be skipped. Ne prepared to work with clay, plasticine, pencils and foil. Be prepared to touch everything as this event is very tactile. Very good COVID safe practices are in place but these do reduce the effectiveness of the exhibition. You'll still get plenty out of this if you go in as an individual but it's infinitely better with family or a small group. The guides are excellent, so please ask them questions and for shooting advice to get the best pictures. Very highly recommended.

What an amazing visit today. Our guide Dan had flown up from Wellington, and he made the trip so interesting, and was very informative. We were especially thrilled he knew our equally amazing guide from Hobbiton, which was a nice touch. For anyone that is visiting Auckland this is a must do. It gives you a new appreciation of the hard work that goes into creating effects and scenes for movies by Richard Taylor and his team.

Thank you to all the team of Workshop Unleashed, especially to our nice guide and awesome Security Jeff :) Fabulous 1.5 hours experience inside of your favorite movies. Much bigger than in Wellington. Lots of activities and special effects. Must visit in Auckland.

Excellent experience and was a must do if visiting auckland. You are brought through 3 or 4 different styles of special effects including horror, fantasy, and Sci fi. You are led by a fun enthusiastic tour guide who is very friendly and answers all questions. The tour and props were high quality and industry standard. Good for kids and adults. Very interesting and a great insight into what weta does for films. Additional notes... bathroom on site, gift shop selling merchandise, and parking was around $16.

I had an awesome time with my partner and kids here! Really inspiring and creative 😊 my favourite part was the end part with the huge female robot from Origins!. Our tour guide Matt did a great job of hosting us, really zany silly childlike energy 😆 Did really great for his first day! Just leave the nine inch jokes out of it, especially in front of kids, that was awkward and weird.

Had an amazing time visiting Weta Workshop Unleashed. A great attraction for all ages especially those interested in Special Effects. I especially enjoyed the fantasy section which is host to a bunch of interactive stations to inspire creativity and creation. Definitely keen to come back with friends and family!

Great indoor activity. Creative and informative, something for everyone. Based on 3 movies and how that creates the props, miniatures, animatronics etc. Horror, fantasy, sci-fi Really well done. Took our 7 year old and she loved it!

Amazing experience! Our tour guide was Bailey and he was amazing! The tour was so much fun and so interactive. I do wish they make those 3 ideas into films because I would definitely watch it. The amount of creativity, love, hard work, and just everything was great. Highly recommend!

Just an incredible time. I use a wheelchair and the staff were super accommodating and helpful and made sure I got the full experience. Shout out to Brooke for being an amazing and hilarious guide. Every room had an incredible amount of detail and there was a great variety of themes. 100% worth the money and I'll definitely be recommending to everyone I know.

Just like the previous reviews, is hard to hear the tour guide. We felt it was a rush to go from one area and to another, there is not enough time to go through each section properly. They should consider to space out each tour a further apart rather than cramming in as many as they can. Overall experience was great with lots of information and interactions to take out from. Our tour guide was really friendly.

Well worth a visit. Very interactive, well paced and entertaining. Most of it is great for kids, one skippable section might scare some kids, but my 10yr old was fine.

Was just okay for me. I was very excited try this. We probably could have skipped the first half hour; it was primarily checking people in and taking individual group/ couples pictures. We had about 30 people in our group so this took a long time. I felt our tour guide (I can't remember her name) was rather boring. The majority of the tour was us reading or experimenting. The general tour felt rather cheesy. I was hoping for something more immersed and informative.

I highly recommend the Weta workshop tour, ita officially a 90 minute tour but they didn't mind that we spent longer than that exploring. The Auckland workshop in particular is highly interactive and you get to touch, move, experiment, poke and prod almost everything (licking not recommend). Even better you are free to photograph and video almost all of the experience. Our guide for the day was Annie and I can assure you that she is definitely not looking over my shoulder as I tell you that she was funny, well informed, friendly and curated a really great experience... and she definitely did not threaten to break my legs if I didn't say she was beautiful and intelligent and deserved both a raise and a bonus this year.

Super cool experience, kids thoroughly enjoyed it. Good outing for the family. Highly recommend it. The horror maze was ultra realistic, would like to see more of that in future.

Took the tour with Paige today and she was a fantastic guide. Full of interesting facts and tid bits that really added to the experience. Would love to do it again some time. Lots of little details, set design was great. Really enjoyed the experience, would be great for all ages.

I was completely blown away. My jaw completely dropped from amazement the moment I stepped in until the 90 min tour was over. With all the animatronics, make-ups, costumes, and statues I can't help but admire the creator and the people behind this workshop and the studio. All I can utter was "WOW".

This is a fantastic place to visit, and it's kid friendly. The staff are really cool, welcoming and funny, and you get a behind the scenes interactive look at all things Weta. Definitely well worth a visit. Won't post too many spoilers...

It was a fun, educational and exciting experience for myself and 2 children. Our tour guide Brooke was awesome. The fantasy workshop would have been better if it was longer.

Fantastic experience and super interesting journey through how special effects are designed and implemented. You get sufficient time to explore each 'set' Our guide was great and injected humour throughout. Well worth the entry fee 👏

Was an awesome tour with The Janitor. He was really hilarious and made the tour really interesting. Really deserves a pay rise, our words not his (😉). The amount of creativeness that goes behind the scenes and talented team @ Weta Deserves a lot more recognition then what they are given. Keep up the awesome work. 👏

The best experience I've ever had. I loved it. I'd go again and again and again. It's fun and interactive and the tour guide was the best!! You have to go and do the tour with Matt, he's funny and great at his job (He's also single and very cute ladies).

Absolutely must do if you're stopping at Auckland. A good 90mins full of information and hands on experience. The sets looked beautiful and our guide was very helpful and entertaining giving us the full tour. The gift shop has lots of mini epics for sale. We got a fridge magnet as memorabilia.

One of the coolest experiences in town! Love the energy of our lovely guide for the day, Paige (hopefully I get it correctly) from gardening team. It’s interesting to see how much effort need to be put together for a movie set, also a great chance to take closer look at the behind scenes. An absolute must to check out when you are in Auckland or Wellington 🤎

We took our son to the Auckland Wētā Workshop for his birthday over the weekend. The Unleashed tour was an absolutely mind-blowing experience, we enjoyed the spooky movie set and the light show the most. It was awesome to see the technology behind the screen. We also had an Intro into world build experience which was using tinfoil, cardboard and hot guns to create a theme that similar to film sets. We had so much fun in this trip, definitely well worth visit if you are in Auckland. Five stars to the team and the tours.
