Went to Big Sur for breakfast with my partner. Expectations were not only met but massively surpassed. Big Sur has a really nice calm and chilled atmosphere about it that was absolutely perfect. I got the poached eggs and she got the crepes. The presentation was beautiful and the taste was fantastic. We ended up sharing both meals as we loved them both! Highly recommended and we will without a doubt be back again.

I identify and present as masculine and have a different name written on my vaccine passport, yet the cashier decided today to, after viewing my vax card, yell out "goodbye ladies!" in front of the whole cafe full of people as I left with my sister, effectively outing my birth gender to a bunch of strangers. Please be aware of the gendered language you use when addressing strangers, it was so unnecessary. A simple "goodbye," costs you less breath and has exactly the same effect.

I’m currently visiting Auckland from the US and I can say hands down this is the best coffee I’ve ever had. I’ve been getting a small flat white every day and each time I get one elsewhere I am disappointed in comparison. Seriously, grab a small flat white and a cherry danish here in the sun each morning and you will have a great start to your day! 🙌🏼

We sat outside at the back. Not a fancy setting but good enough for basking in the sun. They got a good selection of vegetarian food with a little twist of Asian food. We had a tasty omelette and Banh Xeo which was very bland, almost not seasoned at all. As Vietnamese Crepes, Banh Xeo normally comes with a dipping sauce but served without it. Their coffee was beautiful and the lady staff was nice too.

Came last Saturday, ordered fried chicken brioche and the mixed berries bagel. The fried chicken was very juicy and tasty. Highly recommended for all meat lovers. The staffs and atmosphere here was great too.

We chose this place based on the menu on the website. However none of the items on the online menu were available. There is very little to offer vegans and few GF options. Sadly the food was ordinary. Not horrible food but we were left wishing we’d cooked breakfast at home instead. Coffee was nice though.

Ordered salmon Benedict and it was absolutely delicious. Good portion and it’s fairly priced. I am very pleased that they have more options now as I am a huge meat lover. Staffs are very nice and coffee was good too. Will definitely come back. Highly recommended!

Important info about Big Sur is the menu is no longer exclusively vegetarian / vegan. They evidently re-opened a few days ago with a carnivore-friendly menu (and with none of their former dishes). And at time of writing this, they're yet to update their website to reflect their more mainstream direction. Anyway, the fried chicken was delicious.

Monday afternoon bite. Really lovely staff and a cosy cafe. This is great for dogs. Vegan and vegetarian friendly. They have an indoor and outdoor seating arrangement. There were seats available on arrival. Came at 1.30pm asked the staff if the kitchen was still open, it was. Had the kimchi bowl and the El grande taco with a side of kids eggs. The kimchi bowl was tasty food with a great needed kick. The tacos were not as exciting, ingredients were lovely and fresh however it felt like it was missing a spicy tangy salsa, it also fell apart when attempting to pick it up. The staff were kind, hospitable and happy to be at work. Overall I would most definitely come back to try something new.

Nice settling, friendly staff and the orange cake was delightful. However we waited 20 minutes for coffee that was so burnt we couldn't drink it. Sorry to say that is the worst coffee I've been served in Auckland.

Absolutely love Big Sur. The name, the food, the location, the outdoor area, the people who run it. Food is definitely made with love. Everything on the menu is totally delicious.

Really delicious and friendly as service! The French Stroggy was delicious and a nice variation on a breakfast dish. Hot chocolates were also excellent.

This is my new favourite cafe. The owners are so nice and the food is absolutely 5 out of 5. Every time I come, it never disappoints. I stopped in during lockdown to pick up some sandwiches and rembered how much I missed them. So glad to be able to go back whenever we like now. Thank you for making such yummy food :-)

Love this cafe. Old and new memories are made here. Be patient if the staff are busy. The wait is worth it.

Really enjoyed the vegan steak and mushroom pie! Very fresh. Also appreciated the quiet space out the back where we could catch up with old friends away from any loud music or traffic noise.

Unassuming and awesome, this little cafe is a hidden gem in Grey Lynn serving the best Supreme coffee, limited but well catered counter food and what looks to be more substantial items ordered by others off the menu. Thank you to the lovely folk at Big Sur for making my month in Grey Lynn a treat.

Great, moderately priced, healthy and vegetarian fare with friendly service and terrific coffee. A really good spot for a brunch that's a little bit different and a little bit healthy. Vegetarian and, yes, even vegan options for the plant-based people in your life. A surprisingly multi-ethnic menu, with vegetarian twists on old favourites (a yummy portobello mushroom benedict) through to Indian Upma topped with a perfectly poached egg, Vietnamese crispy rice pancake Banh Xeo, Bean Tacos and more! Make sure you ask for an extra shot in your coffee, they make them a bit lightweight for the serious coffee drinker. ☕

Excellent coffee and service here. I always get given a small cake with it.
