For people commenting on not being able to reach a person, please listen to the answering machine message that provides detailed instructions. They receive hundreds of calls and don’t have enough people to man the phone lines. When I found an injured pigeon last month, TWC returned my call within a few hours and even stayed past closing to ensure it got prompt medical attention. The staff are absolutely helpful and amazing, and their instructions were very clear. They even gave me a card with the animals ID number to follow up with them. I’m really looking forward to hearing about its recovery and love that they have this option!

It's pretty impressive that there is a place in the city that rehabilitates pigeons. A pigeon who was burned in a bridge fire, recuperating for 6 months. And amazing dedicated staff on a holiday morning working away quietly looking after wild animals, birds, squirrels. Yes, even squirrels get health care in Canada. Too bad they're moving, the building to be torn down. Moving to Markham, way, easy out there, much harder to get to. Small place, but nice to visit. Say hello, and commend the folks for the work they do.

I found two baby pigeons in a cardboard box in the parking lot, clearly taken off someone’s balcony and left to die. After I got them into a clean, warm, safe space, I left a message with TWC and they called me back in less than two hours to get more information and ask for photos and videos. I was so happy when they told me they could take the babies in! I just had to get them there the next morning. Couldn’t believe they took pigeons!! The staff were prepared for their arrival and walked us through what their next month or so would be like and provided me with their ID numbers so I could call for updates on them. So thankful those cuties will be well cared for until they’re big enough to fly off. Thank you SO much to everyone at TWC!!🐦❤️🐦

I found a baby squirrel and fostered her for a couple of nights till I found out about TWC. I took her to the Centre where they gave her a special number, and kindly let me know I could call later to check on her. They will release her in a group of six squirrels when she’s ready. What a wonderful facility. Thank you from me and little Geronima!

They cared for months for a severely injured pigeon I found. It was amazing to hear all the updates of him slowly recovering, even when nobody knew if he would be able to make it, and seeing how much will to live that little guy had. Thanks to all who cared for him. PLEASE DONATE

PLEASE DO NOT take any injured birds or animals here, they euthanize them even if their injuries are minor. I have dropped off several different injured animals here and they were in fairly good condition, and yet they were all euthanized. TWC have zero patience in providing adequate recovery times, rather give animals a 48-hr window and then they’re sent off to the guillotines. Although it’s a bit of a drive, please take your injured animals to Shades of Hope up in Georgina, Ontario. They give these innocent animals a fighting chance to survive and actually give them unlimited time and resources to recover.

Is there a zero rating? I could have left a starving and desperate baby squirrel to die and show my 7 year old what a bad person I am, but I made a judgment call instead, with the squirrel 's life in mind, so we took it home so I could see what I could do to get it helped. I've done a good job so far and $45 in a day and a half to provide for it. So today, I call this centre. If she had of gotten back to me sooner, perhaps this squirrel would have a home by now. She said I was breaking the law and made me feel horrible. What a rotten attitude she had. I'm sorry that this centre doesn't have capacity to take this animal. But I'm more sorry that they have this lady taking calls! She should not be dealing with the public. I will find this squirrel the proper sanctuary.

Very badly run wildlife centre. It seems like their service have deteriorated. I had contacted them for the first time 3 years ago and the service was incredible then. They had a volunteer Sent out to pick the animal up but unfortunately had to put it to sleep. This time, they couldn't accommodate the animal and tried blaming me for bringing the animal in in the first place. Their rep left me a disgustingly long voice message accusing me of things that were simply not true. I could not get my point through to them. They're reluctant to understand... everyone knows you shouldn't touch a wild animal as they might get imprinted. More importantly you can get salmonia or other diseases from the wild animal... Absolutely useless. Oh, at the end of the voicemail the guy left me he went on about how it's illegal to keep the wild animal in my house. I'm disgusted. Gross take on the whole situation!

If I could, I would give Toronto Wildlife Centre a big fat zero. I have taken orphaned baby animals to this center on two occasions and both times they said they could take them in. The last one was a 5 week old baby squirrel who was roaming around on the road and almost hit. I ran out onto the road, stopped the cars and scooped him up. I kept him overnight and took the squirrel to the Centre, hoping they would take him in, but like the last time, they refused, said they were full. The pregnant lady who took the squirrel told me that they would check him out but they couldn't take him in. She wouldn't even try to help me find help to transfer the squirrel up to Shades of Hope, now, that is a fantastic animal rescue Centre, they NEVER refuse any animal. Finally a nice lady by the name of Glenda came out to the front to try and help me, she even asked the pregnant lady, I am sorry I don't know her name if it was possible to take the squirrel in but she said NO. Glenda wanted to put the squirrel on fluids for a few hours and of course, she said no again. Glenda was kind enough to arrange for Critters Cab to come and pick up the squirrel from my house and transport him up to Shades of Hope in Pefferlaw. I used to faithfully donate to Wildlife but after they refused the three baby robins, my donations stopped. If anybody has to take any animal that needs care, say your prayers first because they most likely will not accept it. I will end by saying kudos to Glenda, she is a super lady, too bad the rest are not like that.

An amazing service for Toronto, especially during spring and summer months when wildlife are more active. I called when a sparrow showed up injured in my balcony, TWC's staff were very knowledgeable, caring, and compassionate. Please keep doing great work to help our wildlife! Truly unsung heroes, thank you for all your efforts. 💚

I found a baby squirrel in my backyard. I phoned the city where I lived asking what to do.....they were no help at all! I knew not to touch it and watched it all day. Clicked on this website and it was so much more helpful. Poor thing had been out all day, Mom didn't come so as the website said we brought it inside for the night., kept it warm with a towel in a box. Took it back out this morning, it was very lively. Played the distress call and the baby started doing the same. Have been checking and can't see it so hopefully mom came. All I can say is thank you so much for the helpful info on your site!

Very helpful and friendly. Brought an Eastern Milksnake in that they will overwinter until it can be released in warmer temperatures. You even get a patient number so you can check in on the critters you bring in for care. Highly recommend! ❤️

I volunteered here in the Wildlife Care department for 2+ years and I absolutely miss being here! It is the most rewarding feeling to be able to assist in the rehabilitation of sick, injured, and/or orphaned wildlife. The work they do here is absolutely amazing and I have the utmost respect for everyone who works and volunteers here. It is a beautiful thing when you see a fantastic team of people working together to take the very best care of these beautiful, innocent animals. I have only the best things to say about TWC and their entire staff. I have rescued a few animals and brought them here to be taken care of. I highly recommend that if you see an injured animal you call in to their call centre right away and find out how to deal with the situation and bring the animals in for treatment. It is the right thing to do! I miss being here so much!! I will be back soon. Thank you for all the hard work you do. This is an amazing wildlife centre! 💕

We discovered a mother skunk and five babies living under our deck at our back door. i looked up what to do and found this site. We let her raise her babies until they were ready to leave…no problems. It was an amazing experience every time we caught sight of the mother tesching her babies how to live as skunks. They all moved out except one. He realised we ran a morning restaurant for an abandoned feral cat. He had to go. Back to this site i went for advice….we purchased a small lantern and placed it near an entry hole. do We thought he’d move out in a couple days….he packed up and was gone in 30 seconds never to be seen again. My cleaning lady also had a skunk (miles away…not mine) and used the lantern as a humane deterrent. Skunk problem solved. Thanks for the info

I tried to rescue a mama squirrel who had an infected abscess on half of her face. When I spoke to a girl on the phone, there was no talks about potentially putting the squirrel to sleep. They didn't even try to give her antibiotics to save her, they said she went blind in that eye and therefore is automatically a "non-releasable" animal. I am still devastated as I have been feeding her for 2 years now, she was incredibly friendly. I would've done anything to try and save her but I was not given the option. I asked to speak to the vet briefly and was denied that too. Think twice about bringing an injured animal there an hour before they close. I feel guilty for taking her there. I am heartbroken and miss her dearly. :(

My husband and I found a fledgling little baby bird in our yard this morning. I called TWC and received very helpful tips around what to do and not to do. They called back promptly, provided detailed instructions, and overall were very nice and helpful. And all of this on the weekend. Thank you so much for all your advice and tips this morning 🐦

I have known of the TWC for a few years now. I have personally brought in many beings over the years. From this i got to know how much the staff truly cares for the animals in their care. I unfortunately have not been able to go back the second time to pick up any of the beings brought in as they were not brought in a good condition to begin with. When the doctors have to make the difficult decision to put down the being, the front staff is kind enough to provide all the details of the care, all the steps that were taken before making the difficult call. This gives me assurance that the staff does everything possible to give the best possible care. TWC has also provided care for the backyard squirrels who were struggling with hair loss during cold winters. They even provide a service for orphaned squirrels and provide your backyard with a little house for these orphans so they can be released from their care. TWC truly goes above and beyond for all beings and for this I donate to them and I will continue to do so as they need it and I know where the money/items go.

I needed some help with wild baby rabbits I found near my house. The Toronto Wildlife Centre reached back to me in a very timely manner ( even though this is a busy season for them)and provided me with great information and helped me deal with the rabbits in a safe and humane way. They immediately put me at ease about the safety of the rabbits and helped me find a suitable solution that would be the best option for the baby rabbits. i would highly recommend this place for anyone having wildlife questions, concerns or troubles Toronto Wildlife Centre is the best place to contact. DO NOT contact your local animal shelter for wildlife animals they are not equipped to handle wild animals and will most likely euthanize them. Thank you Toronto Wildlife Centre for your help and service.

I volunteered with TWC a few years ago, in their wildlife nursery. I only left because my schedule became too tight. I'd go back in a flash if I had the time. Lovely people, excellent facilities, and exceptional commitment to animal welfare.
