I’ve used the swimming pool and the gym. The swimming pool is clean and not very crowded. It’s 25 meters long. The gym was a bit cluttered and busy when I was there.

Its not like a big luxury gym but cant really complain because they only charge $15 FOR THE WHOLE YEAR. According to the price, it exceeds expectations. Has most machines, although could use a few more treadmills, regular maintenance, and a bit more room and I wouldnt mind paying like $30 (heck, even $50) for the whole year if these needs are met. But its still good.

Probably one of the worst facilities to do business with. Been trying to rent the facility for a month and have been negotiating the entire time for an event that was originally 2 month away. After weeks of negotiating the price kept rising from $1,122 to $3000+ to $5000 a month out. Reluctantly were going to agree then they responded and said they actually decided to decline they event. One month out of our event which means possible a cancellation due to bad faith negotiations. I highly suggestion not doing business or renting from York as you have to deal with unions to prepare the facility or space and a management group that is willing to leave you hanging dry after 1 month of negotiations.

The gym is a little crowded during weekdays, res it's good overall in general for basic workout and stretch. It has swimming pool access as well, during certain time periods in a day, which you can check in the YU Rec app.

The female staff member at the gym, who is part of the Respecton team, was unprofessional and rude. I had a personal training session scheduled for 12:30 and arrived 10 minutes early, but she refused me entry because my membership had expired. Despite being a student at the school, she wouldn't renew my membership when I requested. I also asked her to inform my personal trainer about the situation, but she ignored me. It was only after her colleague apologized and processed my membership renewal that I was allowed in. Based on this experience, I wouldn't recommend this gym for students.

It’s nice to go to during the quieter times (like the summer) but during the regular school year it’s very busy so there’s long waits.

The pool was so clean and it was just the right temperature. The change rooms were also clean. The staff was also friendly. 5 stars.

Swim staff are friendly, and upon request, lifeguards give you tips to improve your swimming. Pool is clean, and I think the chlorine level is good, because my eyes don't burn when I don't use goggles. However, around once a week, the pool might be suddenly CLOSED, (sometimes due to chemical level issues), so make sure you call and check if they are open. Parking is usually 80% full. Parking costs around $5/day.

This is a great place to write final exams here at York University. As a York University Alumni, I liked that this exam center here at Ian MacDonald Boulevard and Thompson Road had lots of tables and comfortable seats available with a nice quiet environment enforced by the invigilators to help students like myself achieve the highest level of success possible for their courses while trying to keep the assessment as fair as possible by making sure that no cheating is happening during the exams. I would like to revisit this building one day to use their recreational facilities like the gym, the basketball court, or the pool instead of always visiting this building to write my final exams for my courses because I have heard from other reviewers that are students like I once was myself saying that the gym membership is very affordable compared to other fitness chains, the gym is very spacious with lots of equipment to choose from depending on the muscle group that you are focusing on for your workout routines, and although it may get busy in the peak times during the semester, it is a great place to workout before, in between, or after classes, so this is a gym to think about visiting when I return to this campus to pursue either a Master's Degree, a graduate certificate or both. I have also heard that this facility has squash courts, softball courts, tennis ball courts, grass playing fields, a pool, aquatics classes, and many more amenities where you can rent these rooms with other people to have matches and challenge yourself against one another, which can definitely take your athleticism to a whole new level, so these amenities are something that I may consider in the future when I visit this campus for graduate studies, and want to take up and learn the skills of many different sports during my breaks besides lifting weights at the gym. So, this is definitely an attraction that I would like to revisit purely for my own entertainment purposes instead of always visiting this stadium for academic purposes to complete my final exams for my degree that I just finished here at York University.

I had a good experience so far with some minor problems. The gym is usually empty in the mornings which makes it ideal. It is also clean and the staff are friendly. You do have to book your time slot well in advance and you will only have 1 hr to workout, warmup, access the locker room etc. Time can be tight depending on your routine.

Great stuff! It has more than enough equipment to accommodate even the busiest hours. The machines are clean, safe and in good condition. There's machines for every muscle group and the free weight area is equipped as well. The core and strength area is perfect for deadlifting and other strength exercises. It's spacious and has the right amount and type of equipment, not to mention that it is neat and tidy too! Sometimes you might have to wait 1-2 minutes to get the machine you want but that's with every gym. If you're a York student, with $15 a year, there's a lot to like and if you live on campus, I highly recommend it!

I was stretching and i smelled the mats by accident and it really scarred me. Also the stair masters have been out for a while, really hoping to see them fixed/new ones brought it so im not constantly racing to grab one after waiting 20 minutes. Also, suggest bringing it some more ab machines. Other than that the price is amazing and im really thankful to have access to the fitness center in between classes. Convenient as hell.

A strange layout, but otherwise great. Lots of services aren't very well advertised so you may have to ask at the front desk about everything they offer. Clean facility.

It's $15 a year for a massive variety of equipment.... what more do people want? It's open basically all the time, and yeah sure maybe you gotta wait 2 minutes here or there during peak hours but are you gonna complain about it? Great facilities, love being here, super appreciative.

Good quality equipment and overall the students are nice to each other. Could use an expansion and more equipment as rush hour can get pretty busy to the point where 2+ people are waiting for the same machine.

Been going here since september, mostly like to go in the mornings because it tends to get busy after 11am. Lots of machines and lots of dumbbells with max weight of 110lb I believe. Other than getting very busy during 11am-4pm it’s convenient if you go to york keele campus and would like to get a workout in.

Apparently you need to buy a locker to protect your belongings. Put my stuff in a locker and had my own lock to use while i was occupied. Came back to see my lock gone and had to ask the front desk about it. Apparently they will cut your lock if you dont buy a locker in the change room and do so with no repercussions. As much as they enforce on buying a locker in the change room to milk out the money the school already does just for tuition, they wont reimburse you with a new lock just for the inconvenience. Now left with a broken lock and asked if I wanted to buy a new one from them...

It's getting overwhelming crowded compared to before. In addition to that, there has been a cable machine since march of 2023 until this day is not fixed. And two more machines that haven't been fixed according to the expected time.

Great price for currently enrolled students, $20 after tax for a whole year amazing. Although if you're not a student at YorkU it's super pricey.

Dumbbells up to 120lbs, approximately 4 adjustable and 3 flat benches, 2 dedicated bench press racks, 4 Olympic platforms with 2 free placed and 2 on half racks, 7 half racks total, a couple smith machines, 4 pulley rigs, a multitude of well kept and commercial grade machines make up the tait Mackenzie fitness centre as of writing feb13 2023. Several of many cardio machines are present. Staff are madeup in large part of student-workers of York University. The managers Art and Alicia are respectful and warm to speak with regarding in depth conversation of fitness related topics. Shoes are mandatory in all but a 6x10m area reserved for stretching adjacent the reception desk. The overwhelming majority of clientele are York students. Peak times on weekdays are likely to demand patience when using machines or racks. Prior to 4pm during school days an expectation of half maximum capacity may cater to the needs of those seeking an expedient machine/rack focused session. Personal trainers are also available.

They need to turn up the air-conditioning on hot summer days... you can stand still in the gym and start sweating before you even start your sports.

The Centre is well equipped but they keep changing their opening times. If you plan on working out early in the morning you won't know if the gym is really open until u get there. The gym does this often in my experience.

🫤 This gym was pretty reasonable for a while, given the perks of the black card membership. However since the beginning of the summer, it has been absolutely crowded with young high-school aged teens that show up in groups of 4 and higher chatting around the equipment. I recently realized that high-sc...
