We're sure we don't need to tell the good people of Nottingham about how good it is here. We had their delicious Set lunch for £13.50. Also had to try a couple of desserts (be rude not to) £6 each Matcha Cheesecake, lime meringue just look at it, totally irrestible 😋😋😋 Tira-miso Very good, and such a sizeable portion

We had the lunch menu which was very good value for the quality of food. The pork on a bed of lettuce was amazing. It came with pickled cucumber, fried spring onions (very fragrant, just like how my mum prepares it), tempura batter bits and a sweet sauce. The edamame beans were on the salty side, but still very nice. Aubergine skewers were also prepared well. The curry sauce was very similar to other chains that sell katsu curry. The highlight was the prawn toast. It was very fresh and crispy.

Nice food, varied menu, reasonable prices and friendly staff. We bought 1 of everything and it all came really quickly. Couple of the dishes were a little bit plain (the scallops and the potato skewers) but the rest were excellent. Particularly enjoyed the beef skewers with black garlic, the Japanese sausage and the deep fried artichoke hearts. The deserts were sublime. Go on, treat yourself!

Stupendous good, delicious textures and excellent drinks. Kushi Ya is a standout eatery managing to live up to the sizeable local hype. Unlike some other reviews, I think for the quality of food, the value is there. The only minor niggle is that we were asked to free up the table 75/80 minutes after arriving. We asked for the bill, and then a couple of minutes later we were asked by another staff member to start wrapping things up. When we’re spending £110 on food - I’d like to have been provided a little more time - or just asked more nicely! We will be back for sure. I can recommend the prawn sando and the tomato’s. Probably the best tomato dish I’ve ever tasted. The brains behind Kushi Ya are flavour wizards, and the hype is very real.

We'd never been to Nottingham so had no idea of where to eat. Found Kushi-ya on Google maps and from the reviews it looked good. Took the family in for an early dinner. The food was great, very tasty and by no means ordinary. Our one criticism (not enough to knock off a star) would be that the menu could be better explained. We ordered 'blind' but the staff were friendly and helpful enough to explain what each dish was. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes casual dining and Japanese food.

Lunch Kushi-ya We went early because there might be a queue from all the attention they have had lately. From Local to National press as well as being recently listed in Michelin Guide . Yes there was a queue but we were first. Their lunch offer is just too good to miss. At £14 you can choose 1 snack 2 Skewer + rice Snack is a no brainer, it's got to be Furikake Prawn toast. Skewer Chicken Tsukune ,tare, egg yolk Skewer Beef, Black Garlic mustard Skewer Tiger Prawn, strange flavour sauce. Sticky rice with curry sauce. Us being gannets had to have a dessert as well. Amazake pudding, umeshu soaked cherries, almond. Black sugar parfait, Sesame crisp. £7 each.

One of the best restaurants in the Midlands. Second visit. Menu evolves. All the plates were of excellent quality. The prawn toast remains my favourite item. The pork and kettuce is also very good. Check the specials board though as these items always prove worthwhile but seasonal. Good drinks also and decent service.

Was brought here for my Xmas present (we live in London) and it was fab. It's got a relaxing atmosphere and the food meets the critics hype. Staff are great. Couldn't recommend enough

Prawn toast was very good, pickle tray very good, beef also very good, chicken was slightly on the salty side but still was good, the rice and curry was super hot - temperature wise which I love as normally rice always comes out warm but that's just my preference. Customer service was good though I thought it was abit 🥴 when I asked if they had lemon for water and she brought it over on a plate but then used he hands to put in our drink, dropped one infront of me but didn't say sorry or acknowledge it, maybe just one of those days 🤷 Overall I would come again 😊

Went for lunch. Got there for 1pm, had to wait 35 minutes for a table, but we'd been informed that would happen. The wait was absolutely worth it. Great food, beautifully presented, and with stunnning flavour combinations. Everything from the seaweed and fennel salad through the beef and chicken skewers to the matcho and line cheesecake were absolutely top notch. The service was also good, with our waiter knowledgeable about the menu. The lunch offer of a snack, two skewers and a bowl of sticky rice for £15 is a bargain, and you can order additional dishes off the menu alongside. Oh, and the beer selection is great as well. Definitely going again, next time for dinner so we can enjoy more of the menu.

Exquisite place, food and atmosphere. The first time I ate here I was amazed that Nottingham had such a beautiful restaurant in it's city centre. Must haves I'd recommend are the chicken and beef skewers, salmon and tira-miso. Not really much else to say other than give it a try, worth every penny! Come here for a date, with family or on your own to experience true Japanese cuisine. Thank you to the chefs and staff for making this evening so special❤️👌🔥👏

Brilliant experience here. Fabulous food and great range of it too. The chicken skewers (Tsukune) were great as was the salmon sashimi. Edamame was as far away as you can go from those microwaved, plain things you get elsewhere. These were smoky from being grilled over charcoal and hit with soy and chilli. Loved the fun of the prawn sando and prawn toast. Make sure you save space for the matcha cheesecake. It's heavenly.

Wow wow wow. It's rare something lives up to the hype.. this place does and not breaking the bank either. Flavours. Service. We are still talking about individual dishes the following day. Sadly, rarely get to go out for nice dinners, so this being my graduation I was really really pleased with this venue. Compliments to the whole team

What an amazing experience. The smoke & fire from the grill you can taste on the food is just delicious. Perfect, small but spacious place, cannot wait to go back again. One of the best restaurants in this area.

One of Nottingham’s finest restaurants. Absolutely blown away each time I go. The prawn toast is just something else. Highlights of last night’s visit were the prawn skewers & the pork belly. The beef skewers are a firm favourite. Managed to fit a pudding in for the first time and they were sensational. I’ll be back time and time again.

Amazing food, me and my partner had the Prawn Toast, the chicken skewers, the prawn skewers, and the Parfait and Tira-Miso. The food was amazing, I rarely treat myself to a three-course meal but the portions were perfectly balanced that I only felt full after dessert. The service was really good, we had a wonderful waitress and the wait between courses was surprisingly short against the quality of the food. The atmosphere was really nice. The ceiling of the resturant feels very Tudor-esque while the walls and the seating area felt very traditional Japanese with a modern touch. You could also see the kitchen from where we were sitting, which shows the confidence and pride that the resturant has. The only thing that was off was the Fire Exit sign was slanted slightly. Seriously, everything else was amazing.

Fabulous, relaxed and friendly service with great food. I just recently had my second visit to Kushi-ya, with a year in between. The menu has evolved and it shows! I have to say when we went the options on the menu & specials were very pork heavy (which was unfortunate for non-pork eaters), however, the choice of seafood and veggie options made up for it massively. Certainly different to my first visit, which although good, the menu now seems less experimental, but still with a beautiful nod to the culture. All dishes and drinks are in the captions. We particularly enjoyed the * Edamame * Onion furikake *Aubergine miso All the dishes were delicious so very hard to choose! I’d recommend all that we tried - sake too! I’d recommend this place and looking forward to another visit soon. My only two critiques would be that I had to chase a waiter a few times for things like napkins etc. And secondly, the chicken tsukune was a little salty but otherwise everything was great!

Really tastey great food. We more or less tried everything and it was all amazing. The best was the special, mushrooms and garlic, which went great with the beef skewers. I wiuld also reccomend thetofu skewers. We also had one of the orange beers, which was very nice and not to orangey see the photos. The staff were great and the setting was lovely. I would definetely come back here.

Hidden gem in the city centre. Excellent service, delicious food. My favourites were the specials of the day: pork floss on sesame tofu, kimchi pork belly and duck hearts. The prawn toast was the best I've ever had. Excellent evening out!

Tasty Japanese food in Nottingham. Visited yesterday for the first time and had the lunch offer which is 1 snack, 2 skewer and sticky rice (with curry sauce) for £14 I opted for: Furikake prawn toast (Amazing) Chicken Tsukune, tare, egg yolk Tiger prawn, strange flavour sauce Would have been 5* but our drinks only arrived as our food did and the portion sizes are quite small compared to other lunch deals you can get around the city. Would still recommend and revisit because the food is delicious 👌🏼

Outstanding food, incredible flavours and ingredients, really worth the money we payed. Exciting drinks we never tired before and very helpful staff, we visited their bar afterwards! A fun, fantastic evening.

Fantastic little restaurant! I wish I had tried it sooner. It's basically Japanese tapas, although the portions are much bigger than any Spanish tapas I've had, so best to order less in the first instance and add to it if you want to would be my advice. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the food but in no way pushy, and the service was excellent. The choice of drinks is also interesting and reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend.

We were so impressed with our food, everything was absolutely delicious! We had the lunch deal which was the perfect amount of food and well priced. Lovely little hidden gem, well worth travelling to Notts for!

Absolutely loved this place. Amazing atmosphere for the small restaurant on the second floor. We sat at the bar with the bartender to eat which was great as we chatted about Japan and got the insight on the best dishes. Loads of delicious small plates of food cooked to perfection! Great puddings and drinks too.

Good value lunch menu that is very filling. Nice drinks and friendly service. The pickles were delicious! I probably wouldn't have the curry sauce on the rice next time as the sauce on the prawns and with the chicken were sufficient.
