Very nice museum. Safe and professionals meaning all the locations to help with visitors questions. They have an outstanding museum store and a super cafe. They had 3 special exhibitions, all stimulation and interesting. Well worth a visit.

I didn’t quite understand the first and second exhibition but the third and fourth ones are quite interesting. They were projects that children and artists worked together. I would like to think that they are artistic versions of playgrounds for adults and children to play together. There are also drawings on the wall with quotes from the children. Very fitting for families and children to visit and play.

Gallery was lovely! Many different exhibitions. The one with the Nuclear fallout shelter was cool! We went to the art gallery cafe on the basement level....Nice coffee....but they don't bring it to your table....they call out your coffee order ....and you have to go get it yourself from the counter next to the barista. Cheers John

Spacious, organized space and helpful staff. Nice gift shop with lots to choose from, good for presents. Friendly cafe with clean, well presented toilets. Gallery was tidy and had a good atmosphere. Thought provoking and professional exhibitions. Noticed the roof outside the entrance has a lace pattern, fitting in with the history of the area. There is a Tate modern feel to the building inside and out. Free to get in, but felt I should leave a donation which is easy to do. I look forward to more visits!

Very good gallery overall, the interior was immaculate and the atmosphere was friendly and very comfortable. It's a nice public escape from the noise of the city. Can't wait to see if they have more exciting artists to present.

Very obscure “art”. The idea of contemporary was very pushed and stretched. There was nothing worthy of seeing mostly TV’s attached to plywood and meaningless, simple, bland “art”. At least it was free and the store might be interesting for some.

Definitely would recommend visiting. Wouldn't be able to make a whole day of it as there is only three relatively small galleries but definitely an interesting place to have a look around and take in some new ideas. Cafe is lovely and has lots of choices.

An excellent gallery that always puts in interesting exhibitions. The gift shop is very generic - nothing really Nottingham about it. But helpful staff, good things to see and an excellent cafe make up for it. Good community space too.

On a day trip to the Christmas Market it turned out to be a really cold day. The craft market at Nottingham Contemporary not only provided a warmer setting but a brilliant range of local crafts, stallholders without exception both talented and passionate about their offers. Rightly so! Christmas shopping in the bag 🤩🤩!

Excellent space you enter through the shop with several spacious galleries on the ground floor. No entry fee but you are encouraged to donate to help with running costs. Downstairs is also spacious and the raw concrete really works. There is an excellent cafe and toilets down here.

Can always see exhibition of arts free of charge in the Contemporary. A cafe at the lowest floor is available for an afternoon tea/coffee or snack.

I really enjoyed the cafe and staff/service, so I spent more time in here then viewing the art galleries. Overall, the place had a very positive, creative vibe (and has useful lockers for luggage). Very near the train station so a good location.

The current exhibit based around the idea of caves and a decent. Inspired by the cave systems within Nottingham itself and other complex subterranean inhabitation was so interesting: both historical and more figuratively. There were some brilliant installations of all different kinds from traditional paintings and short movies to pottery and an interactive almost fully recycled post apocalyptic bunker! The sounds got a bit much for my friend who went with me due to the nature of the current gallery showing but it was definitely a good experience! Would love to see some of the future installations and events!

The quality of exhibitions is of the highest level in the UK (arguably internationally). They are consistently engaging, challenging, and exceptionally staged. Most galleries will just ‘show’ work. Here the presentation is often conceptual or themed around an idea, and more interesting as a result.

I remember coming here often as a child growing up, which initially got me into art in the first place. First time visiting again after a long time, and I love how it's stayed the same! Would love to see more exhibitions in the future, and come visit again :) Also, not sure if The Space on the lower ground floor is still being used as part of exhibitions or not? But I remember that room being the best part of my childhood!

Update October 2022: Given that Nottingham offers surprisingly few attractions to visitors interested in fine arts (see original review below), Nottingham Contemporary is a fixture during my occasional visits. This time, the temporary exhibition ("Hollow Earth") was rather interesting. Many arresting exhibits, mostly by African artists of the late 20th and early 21st century - a surprising number of them are dead already. Very diverse objects and installations. Well done, so I'm adding a star to my original rating. Nottingham Contemporary is a fairly modest art museum dedicated to modern art - and it always features two parallel temporary exhibitions, there are no permanent displays. Sometimes they're preparing the two exhibitions at the same time, so you might not be able to see *any*thing here - so, check in advance what's on. Even under the best of circumstances, Nottingham Contemporary is of limited interest in a city that doesn't even have a permanent gallery for "traditional" art - in a a city of 400,00+ people that's quite embarrassing. During none of my three visits I found anything to occupy my mind for more than 30-40 minutes, and that's both displays, combined. At least the last time (October 2019) I was allowed to take photos, which was prohibited on previous occasions. And the entry is free, so I guess beggars can't be choosers. The shop is more entertaining than the rest of the gallery. Only if you're already in the vicinity!

Having a free afternoon to myself, alone in Nottingham, i thought i might visit one of Nottingham's best galleries. Parking is always an inner city problem, but I finally arrived and was so looking forward to being inspired and awed by the installations and art I expected to see, but sadly, that was NOT the case. I don't know if I'm just a complete art imbecile, or don't understand it, but I've been to some of the best galleries all over the world, including the Uffizi, The Louvre, The Guggenheim and many others - but honestly, NONE of what was inside this gallery could really be classified as "art" in my mind! It was a mishmash of weird audiovisual displays, badly presented, in stark unwelcoming, blacked out rooms, and unless I read each card description of the installations on the walls - I was at a complete loss as to the relevance of any of it! What a crock of.... !! That's my review and there is nothing that anyone could tell me or explain to me that would make me change my mind on that! Luckily, it's free to get in, cos if I'd had to pay, I'd definitely have wanted a refund! So, if you have a free afternoon in Nottingham, go someplace else! Maybe Tesco's would be better!
