An absolutely fantastic place to visit ! Especially when they are on a steam day. It was very interesting and the volunteers who were here are clearly passionate about keeping such an extremely important piece of history going. The architecture is stunning. Great time was had. Will definitely return.. thank you

A little gem of a place, staffed by volunteers. A beautiful Victorian Pumping Station set in small but lovely grounds. Entry is ยฃ4 including a very interesting tour. There is a cafe, toilets and children's play area. All staff were polite, helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. They hold steam days where the boilers are fired up and you can visit the underground water chamber. Check their events before going.

This place is so underrated it's unreal. It's not just the best attraction in the East Midlands, I'd rate it as one of the best in the country! There's so much to do here, and it's just incredible. There's a variety of different engines on display and there is also a fascinating underground reservoir that is an absolute 'must see' (and which involves a not to be missed tractor ride to get there!) There's also a lovely garden and lake for you to sit and eat your lunch, and a very nice cafรฉ serving lovely hot rolls and delicious cakes. You can return as many times as you wish in twelve months for the ticket price, which is well worth it. There's so much to look at that you can easily spend four hours here and not be bored. We'll definitely be returning!

A beautifully maintained and operational steam water pumping station. Visited to view the pumps "in steam" and to see the old reservoir from the inside. All well-organised and most interesting on many levels: history / engineering / architecture. Friendly welcome throughout and great engagement by all the volunteers manning the various aspects of the site. Recommended!

Gorgeous location and a great tour (ยฃ4 per person) provided by a volunteer on the history and mechanics of this Victorian Pumping Station. Such a small attraction, but there's so much to see and beautiful little details everywhere. They host weddings here, and I can see why, as its almost church like. Parking, cafรฉ and toilets are all on site and is currently being upgraded.

Steam weekends are amazing, so many enthusiastic, helpful and knowledgeable volunteers. Ride on steam train runs round the woodland, it's only 50p, almost free and a fun ride, if brave enough, kids can try tooting the whistle. Only gripe is folk not making best use of the parking space, so many selfish folk leaving massive gaps which ultimately cause queues to build up later on in the day.

Really good day at the 1940s weekend. The tour around the underground reservoir was amazing and the guide knew all the details. Great to see all the steam engines working and the 1940s event was really well organised.

We first bought tickets for the classic cars and with that you get annual pass which lasts a year from signing, so now just book our free tickets online for steam days and show our pass when we get there. Classic motorcycles today, but traction engines, blacksmith, fairground organ and lots more to see including inside the pump house which is amazingly beautiful.. They also have plant sales and a cafe. The volunteers do an amazing job! There is free entry on Sundays between certain dates when they aren't steaming when you can walk round the grounds and visit the cafe.

A great fun and interesting day out. Lovely people running it, an helped by the 40's theme. Children able to use the fireman's hoses. The extra trip to the reservoir was well worth it. What a fascinating place

Interesting place. You learn about pumps... They have a nice cooling pond which have 100s odd carps. You see the old pumping station back in the day on how they move water around the area and understand how steam power work too. They have a small cafe onsite when you need a little break from all the new information you learnt from papplewick.

Loved visiting here for the first time! Fabulous old buildings and the underground reservoir tour is a must if itโ€™s running (check before hand) - tractor trailer ride up to it and then an amazing structure underground that used to hold water for the area. Really interesting!

Very nicely preserved pumping station as a Grade II listed building. Itโ€™s run by a trust so isnโ€™t always open. Visiting the site is free, but tours inside are ยฃ4 per adult, under 12s free. Thereโ€™s a little coffee shop, but no cakes unless it is a โ€˜steaming dayโ€™. A steaming day is when the run the pump and you can see it in motion, the rest of the time it is not running. Very nice trip for the family.

Brilliant venue if you are interested in steam pumping engines. It is a fantastic example of a Victorian pumping station, in lovely grounds. We went on a Steampunk event, but they also have other events throughout the year when you can see the station working. There is also a small train for the kids & occasionally opportunities to see the underground reservoir - the fish in the pond are rather spectacular as well. Your ticket lasts a year. It's run by volunteers & the money goes towards upkeep. Would recommend.

Great building inside and out definitely worth a visit even if your not interested in steam. The pumping station is run on 120 volunteers and they all do a brilliant job. There is a friendly cafe serving drinks and light snacks. Would certainly visit again on a steam event day. And always a bonus with me clean toilets. Ooops typo error not 120 volunteers 20 volunteers ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Went here today for the Steampunk event. A brilliant place, outstanding it's survived all these years and is still working. Big thanks to the organisers and the volunteers for making it happen.

One of eight steaming weekends at papplewick, Victorian engineering at its finest lots to see and do, miniature steam train for the kids to ride on, stationary engines, cafe for coffee and cake and the crowning glory the two James Watt beam engines all housed in an impressive Victorian building with in a well manicured garden, some thing for all ages.

There was an artisan fair on, and it was a steaming day where all pumps and machinery were working, the staff were absolutely great and very helpful and friendly, the tea room was good with toilets next door ,we also went down inside the old reservoir which I've not done before so enjoyed that ,there's a lake with seats around and several people had radio controlled ships and a water swimming dalek in the lake ,a wood carving competition was on using chainsaws and other tools ,there was also a few other things on as well so all in all it was a fab day
