Although there were some lovely staff upon arrival and leaving, during the majority of our stay we dealt with extremely rude and unhelpful members of staff. We were greeted nicely, shown to our hotel room quickly and that all went smoothly. The reception of the hotel is really nice. Our room was average for the price but seemed a bit dark and gloomy in contrast to the pictures shown on booking.com and their website. We had a friend who was in Nottingham with us but not staying in the hotel with us. He got too drunk and was sick on the stairs when we were trying to get him out, despite offering to help clean this and apologising we were told it was fine. Instead of telling us there was a problem when we offered this help, upon leaving to go out we were called and told two of our rooms were cancelled unless our friend paid the £100 fee. The staff member was extremely rude about this and we’re still unsure why we weren’t just notified of this when it happened. He paid the fee and we were given new room keys, telling us our old ones were cancelled. We came back around 2am to our friend sleeping in our room. He didn’t have a room key and only had my name, no other booking details. We notified staff who offered absolutely zero help and were hostile towards us the whole time. A member of staff then came to the room and when I expressed how annoyed I was to him, he simply asked if we needed him to stay or if he could leave. To top this all off, when we were leaving they held our luggage but gave us incorrect labels to match the tags. When trying to get our bags, our boyfriend asked a member of staff for them but due to the incorrect labels, the member of staff rummaged through my boyfriends bag, quizzing him on the contents within it. This disgusted us both as our privacy was completely violated due to a mistake the hotel made. Would not recommend staying here at all.

We chose this hotel for its location due to its proximity to NTU. We booked a family room for 2 night stay. The used key passes were faulty due to its overuse and heavy scratches. We had to insert the card multiple times before we can access the room. The air-conditioning was not working. Instead of blowing cold air, it blew hot air regardless of what temperature or fan speed we set. The lamp was also missing a light bulb and the phone had no ring tone or sound regardless of which button you press. We could not sleep the whole night as we were dripping in sweat. The hotel provided ear plugs. There was loud music from outside until 2 am. Notified front desk and was provided a small fan. One of the front desk manager checked the air conditioner and assured us that it will get cold after an hour. We still could not sleep due to the stuffiness of the boiling room. We wanted to leave the hotel room door open the whole night to allow cold air into the room but was advised not to do so due to security concern. We notified front desk the next morning and was provided another small fan. The manager offered to switch us to a smaller room with a disclaimer that the other room may also have a malfunctioning air cond. He blamed hotel guests from the previous week for opening the room windows, causing damage to their air-conditioning system. He offered a drink coupon but never gave it to us. We did not accept his offer for room switch after considering the disclaimer. We were hard pressed for time as we needed to rush to our daughter's graduation ceremony. We could have cancelled the second night and checked into another hotel if we had the time. We were appalled by the poor management response and inaction to addressing guests needs/concerns. All we are asking is a proper night sleep after flying in from New York and another 2 1/2 hours road trip to the hotel. This is our first bad experience living in a boiling hotel room after travelling to many parts of the world. We would not recommend anyone to stay here.

The room was tiny, and the bed kept sliding away from the headboard. There was a lot of banging around in the hotel from around 0530, too. Having said that, the staff were all lovely. They were all extremely helpful and welcoming. The location is great too.

Would avoid hotel if you want to sleep before 2am on weekend. There is a night club and bar in the hotel and the noise travels upwards into the rooms. We stayed on floor 4, one of the highest floors in hotel, and we could still hear the loud music. The location is good to get around the city and staff polite. Maybe it’s less noisy on weekend.

Very small room. Ear plugs provided due to the extremely loud music from next door. When a different room was requested I was told if was a city hotel and what did I expect. Absolutely not good enough especially as I paid nearly £200 for this room and that didn’t even include breakfast. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Location is good but considering everything is really in a walking distance in Nottingham anyway - okay. Breakfast is good as you have a good choice of what to eat, coffee machine wasn’t working tho so the only choice was coffee or tea. Helpful and friendly reception staff, replaced my lost key for free. Why 2 stars? First of all rooms are really warm because it is an old building, even when walking in corridor it is really warm, and theres no option to make your room colder. Yes, they have AC but it doesn’t go lower than 18 degrees which for me is still not enough (it also doesn’t blow good as its old) as well as AC is really noisy, had to use remote fan to keep myself cool during night as well as open all windows. Dusty. Top of the bed is dusty, behind bedside tables theres dust, window frames dusty as well. During my stay of 3 nights my room haven’t been cleaned even once, even tho I put sign “went exploring” on my door. TV works weird, with reduced brightness. Had to look in settings and try to increase it but there’s nonsuch an option (not really major). Toilet on level 1 has no soap, just soapy water which you have to spray around 100ml on your hands and still it won’t be soapy, not safe during our pandemic times. Reading lights in room: one wasn’t working at all, other one was always decreasing or increasing power, blinking etc on its own. Shower gel ended in 2 showers time as no one puts a new one before you move in.

We loved our stay here... It's in the perfect location, everything is walking distance away, so makes exploring Nottingham so easy. I do like a hotel that has a little history somewhere that has a soul and a story tell, this place does, just check out the staircase Our room was lovely, there's a lift to get you there, which is great if you have cases. It was a decent size with lots of quirky touches. The bed was king size and very comfortable. There was a bath in the bathroom, which might not be important for some but I love a bath 🛀!! Important as well was air con... Its around 27° outside but in our room it's heaven You get a discount for parking at the nearby lace Market car park which is £10 for 24 hours rather than £18 which for city centre is excellent value We would stay here again, it suited us perfectly... Enjoy

Loved our stay in this quirky hotel. Each room is individual and very comfortable. The curious bar is fab and the sister bar lost property is a must with the best cocktails. Breakfast is great. Thank you to reception for being so amazing and kind to us Clare and Rob x

Friendly and helpful staff, in an interesting building with some great features, including the impressive central staircase. The bathroom was not very clean with some bad stains on the walls and several of the towels provided were stained and some looked like blood stains. The room was noisy on the Saturday night with a low bass thumping noise coming from a nearby club or bar. Earplugs had thoughtfully been provided in the rooms, implying they know there is a problem.

3 adults sharing a room at over £70 each you would really expect the bathroom lock to be working privacy whilst showering sharing with 3 people is pretty important. Room too hot on lowest setting couldn't sleep. Staff unhelpful. I would never go back to this hotel. Good location that is it.

On arrival we found out the hotel is under refurbishment. Was not aware when booking. Room was very tired, bathroom still had hair shampoo on the tiles, no toilet roll and the bed very soft which in turn gave me a poor nights sleep and a bad back. Plus side is great location for a night out but the bad side is at the weekend you can here the club next door from virtually anywhere in the building and we were on the forth floor. On the whole disappointed.

This is the 11th time we've stayed at this hotel for our Wedding anniversary. As this is always a special weekend for us, it's such a nice gesture to get a room upgrade and complimentary drink in the bar. Location is great, room well equipped and very clean. Breakfast has great selection of high quality offerings - only criticism is that the plates for the hot food are cold so the food goes cold very quickly - should be relatively easy to add in an electric plate warmer? Staff all friendly. Only issue we had was with bulbs out in our bedroom - by the last night of our stay, the final light in the bathroom stopped working, leaving it in darkness. Did mention on checkout. Overall very happy and hope to return in Oct 2024.

From start to finish was an easy and relaxed stay. Quick check in and out. Friendly staff. Plus I had to cancel one day of my stay, which was fully refunded without any fuss. Would not hesitate to return again.

I stayed here for two nights with my mum and my brother. The location was very good but that’s all I can say about this hotel. They gave us a really small room for 3 people which wasn’t fully functional and was really dated. The shower door was broken as well as the window lock so basically anyone could come in at night, the kettle was very dirty and overall experience was bad with this hotel even though I’m shocked as I stayed at a Mercure hotel but in Devon and it was brilliant there was nothing to complain about, that’s why I chose this one again, as I thought it will be the same especially after how much we paid and how exorbitant was only for 2 nights. I literally could have paid less and stayed in a better hotel which was Hilton. I will never be staying here again so disappointed. I even left earlier as I didn’t want to be there it was horrible.

We have such great experiences with Mercure in the past. How is it that you have this building in your portfolio - what an embarrassment for you. We arrived at a dreary, run-down building completely wrapped in sheeted scaffolding. The sink and bath were cracked, the heater in the bathroom was covered in a black bin bag, the bed was springy, and the sofa was filthy. No bars were open and there was not a restaurant as shown on your website! The staff were understanding and professional and gave us a full refund and we went somewhere else.

Good central location but very busy and noisy - could hear people talking in the corridor at 3.00am. We were upgraded to a larger room which was quite small - I could only imagine the size of the smaller rooms. Aircon wasn't working. Reception offered a fan that never arrived. Remote for TV missing - did arrive. Wardrobe door banged shut. Thought the room was overpriced.

An amazing stay. Loved the place. Very quirky decor and entrance. Extremely clean comfortable bed ,spacious en suite bathroom. Only downside was the noise of heater. Would definitely stay again.

Overall a very good stay. I was here for 4 nights as part of a conference, and the hotel is very centrally located. However this goes against you, if you happen to be staying Friday or Saturday night as there's lots of nightlife going on outside. Not to mention that the hotel is on a main bus route. The King room is well maintained and smart but quite compact, and bathroom was very nice too, although the window faces right out onto the street so make sure you keep the blinds down for privacy. The windows have additional internal modern windows which help to keep the noise out. But if you want fresh air, you will need to open both sets of windows. I managed to open both and it was fine as I'm not a fan of aircon The breakfast each morning was superb. The dining room was very well laid out, and a lovely gas fire was on each morning, it was wonderful to see and sit next to. Breakfast is plentiful with cereals, full English, fired eggs, scrambled eggs, you name it all the usual suspects and when they ran out they cooked more, as its good to cut back on waste. I played some pool in the bar down on t he ground floor which was fun. The rooms don't get serviced unless you ask for it, and I survived fine for 4 nights. Again, another good way to cut down on waste I guess. Overall a great stay and would stay again. Very central and easy to get everywhere.

Lovely room & decor. Staff very helpful & friendly. We were offered a free upgrade to our room and the breakfast buffet was lovely with lots of choice as well as gluten free options. Location was ideal as right in the heart of the city with great links to trams, restaurants and lovely bars too. Would definitely stay again

Had a good stay. Room was compact but perfect for one person. No place for luggage. Walls had drink splashes by bed from previous visitor/s. Shower could do with more attention as it had pink and black mould. Pink was easy enough to rub away so I don't think they really clean it between visits. Bathroom quite small and bad placement of hot towel rail opposite toilet so you could accidentally headbut it standing up. Also the towel rail is opposite the sink so I did burn my butt on the towel rail once while brushing my teeth! Gym was compact but good range of equipment. Breakfast was delicious. Decor in common areas was nice. Staff were lovely. Would stay again but would like to see the cleaning in the rooms improve.

My company's travel agency booked this and I was expecting the usual standard one night business experience in a city center. This was so much more than that. The late arrival receptionist was really engaging, interested in why I was in town and was genuinely interested in anything else he could do for me. Really strong customer service. He also upgraded me into a really nice room. The building has history and character and that has been preserved well. Breakfast was expansive and service sharp. I've never written a review of a business stay before but this really deserved a strong review.

This hotel claims it is wheelchair accessible but it’s a lie. I booked a wheelchair accessible room - they claim all their rooms have wheelchair accessible bathrooms but don't believe them. I arrived having booked an accessible room and was given a room with a high step into the shower with no seat and that was in NO way accessible. When I queried this I was told there is only ONE accessible room within the hotel and told there was nowhere else I could stay which meant moving to a completely different hotel within the city with no notice. The staff were kind and apologetic for the mess up but wth??? Absolutely unacceptable and when I offered to help the manager understand that they are miss-selling their rooms and would be happy to point out how inaccessible they are so they could make improvements/stop pretending they’re accessible I was not contacted. Just because a wheelchair can get through the bathroom door doesn’t mean it’s wheelchair accessible!! If you are a wheelchair user AVOID!

  • 2/5 Kelly S. 11 months ago on Google
Great location, but the hotel is pretty shabby. The room had a missing towel rail in the bathroom, the lights were so dim we could hardly see, the sheet and mattress protector didn't fit on the bed so they all came loose in the night, and we were woken up both nights by the fire alarm going off at random.

  • 2/5 Claire P. 3 months ago on Google New
The staff and location made this trip. However, the disabled room is extremely tired and unclean. We move the sofa to make it a little easier for the wheelchair user to find a lot of disguarded rubbish. Used tissues under the desk and the carpet is extremely warn in not just the rooms but the corridors too. There was even a screw head sticking out of the shower floor. The whole place is in need of some serious attention.

Great location, the room was lovely and spotlessly clean. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Just remember it is located at the heart of the nightlife area so late night noise will be there. They have thoughtfully provided ear plugs for those that may want them although for us it wasn't an issue.would definitely stay there again.

  • 4/5 Rajeev C. 1 year ago on Google
Great location and convenience, friendly staff however the room was very cosy and not much walking space. I could just about open the bathroom door without touching the bed, one of the lights did not work so was a little dim, in the morning the coffee mug had a stain in it so I didn’t use it. It was a cold night so it was either having the heating on and sleep with a buzzing noise or sleep in the cold in silence. They did have an Alexa in the room which I’ve not seen before.

What a lovely experience! The atmosphere was very nice and we enjoyed our short stay here and would have wished for it to be longer. Also the area around the hotel is very nice and the dinner was great in a restaurant close by. Since this is an old hotel you could hear what is happening on the streets during the night but also there the hotel was clever and provided ear plugs in every room - well done 👏

I stayed here over the summer and my mum stayed here during the first month of university starting. The staff are fantastic and are really positive, enthusiastic, kind and so helpful. I couldn't recommend a better place to stay. This is definitely my number 1 place to stay and the beds are ridiculously comfy and the rooms make you feel right at home. Best place by far to stay in Nottingham

Had a mix up with Airb&b we had a confirmed booking ( paid) but when we got there no booking existed. We had to take what room they had available and pay again. Not the room we wanted or was expecting. Mainly Airbnb fault but they said we were a no show as the booking was in another name?? 4 stars as the breakfast buffet was the best J have had in a long time, and not you expensive.

The hotel had a lovely, quirky vibe about it. Great location for Nottingham city centre. The room was well provisioned, included tea and coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, TV. The sink was blocked on first use but the staff sorted it immediately. The room was a little noisy overnight (Friday and Saturday) due to noise from people leaving local clubs etc. Loved the decor, see the photos!

the staff were excellent. I stayed the week before Christmas 2021. Friendly, informative and helpful staff. The room was nice too, clean and everything as expected, but you can get that in a lot of places. What you don't always get is front of house staff who are so keen to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

  • 4/5 Mark F. 2 years ago on Google
Great location. The rooms are furnished in a interesting way will old fashioned large trunks as ornaments. The decor is a little tired in places. We were up graded so there was complimentary soft drinks in the fridge & biscuits with the hot drink making facility. The bed was comfortable & was a king size.

  • 5/5 ruby c. 2 years ago on Google
Quirky place to stay, with interesting facts adorning the walls. Rooms have an art deco feel with attention to detail, which is cool. Well equipped with king size comfy bed. A warm welcome at check in, and the staff friendly and helpful. LGBTQ friendly, and centrally situated with bars and shops nearby. We travelled via train, so not sure if parking is available. Would stay here again.

The hotel is in a great location in Hockley with a lively pub and gin bar on site. The rooms were fine, we were upgraded which was appreciated. The staff were friendly a and the atmosphere relaxed. I would say though that the standard of accomodation doesn't justify the increased price difference for this hotel against others of a similar standard in the city. I would stay again but would be looking at getting a better room rate before considering.

Perfect location, one of the best sited hotels I've ever been in. Next to a huge range of unique venues, pubs, bars and more. Staff were very friendly and we were looked after. Room was disappointing. The bathroom mirror had a big damaged corner with a crack in it. The decorations had writing on from many previous guests. Mostly them measuring their sexual encounters. Not quite the vibe the room was going for really, looked pretty unprofessional and felt poor for the cost. Breakfast lacked any vegan specific options and was pretty bare bones. Not worth it, go into the city and enjoy one from the many cafes.

Really good location in the city centre, right by buses and a tram stop. Reception is very friendly and helpful. Rooms could do with a bit of love and maintenance. Don't know how I feel about the Alexa, but at least they have it programmed well.

Really lovely hotel in the centre of Nottingham. The location is great with lots of nice restaurants surrounding the hotel. We stayed for one night, the room was well decorated and had air conditioning which was great (however way too loud). Great breakfast in the morning too, maybe a tad overpriced for a breakfast though. The only thing that I would say let down our stay was the view we had out the window of the centre part of the hotel which was covered in bird poo and litter; definitely wasn’t a good view from our room.

Great stay and perfect for the centre of Nottingham. The room was comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was excellent with much variety. Has an excellent bar downstairs. All the staff are friendly and professional. Car parking is round the corner approx. 1 min walk.

Mixed bag at this hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful and as an Accor rewards member we received a welcome drink which we enjoyed in the quiet bar on the first floor. The real issue was with the rooms. The first room we were put in was on the roof next to all the air conditioning units which were extremely noisy and this was made worse by windows that were broken open and being centimetres from the lift. We asked to move and were placed in a room in a different part of the hotel. This seemed much better at first (even though it was a lower room type) but then overnight we were kept awake by a constant fan noise from outside (again the bathroom window was broken open) and people walking up and down the creaky stairs right behind our head. Aside from the noise we found that this interesting and historic hotel has not been well maintained all that well by the current owners and as a result some things felt a bit grotty (dirty shower, wobbly toilet seat etc.) It did us fine for an overnight stay, but I wouldn't be that keen to stay for much longer...

Literally the best hotel on the planet is all. Couldn't be more conveniently located in the City Centre. Big props to William and Sophia who were beyond helpful. Whole staff and management were great. I'm sure I'll be returning soon! Warm regards, Kimberly

I should have done my research. This isn't a bad review, far from it, just very much a not for me place. The hotel itself is very pretty, the rooms are fine, mostly clean except a surprisingly filthy door frame in the bathroom, but that is forgivable, who thinks to clean that? Having an alexa in the room was a nice touch, and iron and ironing board, but an £150 room with shampoo and no conditioner was a bit odd, and having 2 very ancient sugar packets with about ten coffee sachets was random too. The staff were great, I can't fault their hospitality. Had I have done my research however I wouldn't have booked. But that is on me. Its very loud, the bar/pub downstairs is very rowdy and plays very loud very bad (matter of opinion) music until the early hours, and the rooms are far from sound proof. If you are a party goer, and like the hustle and bustle and hearing people sing ABBA and the spice girls until gone midnight is your jam, then this is a great hotel. Has propper family function/wedding vibes that i was just not feeling. Great hotel for a party goer, night life lover. But for anyone looking for peace and quiet, keep looking

The room is a bit small but we've got almost everything we'd like (a fridge would be appreciated, since we've had this in other similar hotels). The staff are friendly and the location is perfect. When booking, do keep in mind that the hotel is close to pubs/clubs, so there is some noise coming in from outside.

  • 1/5 Dazz - Region L. 1 month ago on Google • 1 review New
When we booked, we were told we should consider upgrading as the room is small. That was fine by us, we figured we would just be there to sleep - instead, my asthmatic partner slept very roughly. In the morning, we inspected to room and were shocked. When we arrived, we noticed a red stain on the bed but let that slide - however, the mould in the corner, the thick sheet of dust on all high surfaces, the grime on and between the windows, and the literal YEARS of dust build up in the gap next to the wardrobe has us angry at the lack of care for their guests. This is a health hazard. The staff were nice, but it cannot make up for the detrimental to our health that left us feeling like we would have been better sleeping in our car. Avoid. Hard avoid. Don't even consider it. We booked 2 nights and are leaving after 1 night, and driving 3 hours back home, because the conditions are so bad I don't want to be in the room any longer than necessary. Oh, and the noise is unbelievable... Until 3am we heard thumping tunes running through the entire hotel, with no mentioned that the hotel has a late night pub on the ground floor. This should probably be a major note when booking.

The hotel location is perfect for getting anywhere in Nottingham and is surrounded by tons of places to eat and drink. The rooms were quite quirky, but the hotel is 200 years old so to be expected. The lift was unfortunately broken so we climbed a lot of stairs! However, the staff were friendly and helpful, and we would definitely stay there again.
