It is such a wonderful place and very interesting. The staff made us feel so welcome and safe throughout our visit. The visit started from minute we stepped onto the mini bus that takes you from the carpark to Stoneywell. The member of staff told about the history of area, the family and the house. Each member of staff was very friendly and informative, each one we met while walking from one part to another added a little more to the history of the property and area. Everywhere was so clean and tidy. It was such a pleasure to visit.

My kids yelled they wanted to move in there! Stoneywell is amazing. It is not a typical English country house. It's built on a solid volcanic rock with interesting setting. The architect did his best! Booking (the visit) in advance is highly recommended. Otherwise you might not be lucky enough to get in. The parking is not by the house - just 500m away. A shuttle bus is running very often. Look carefully for the National Trust (acorn) signs to get to the parking.

An amazing quirky Cottage. This might be classified as small by National Trust standards, but do not let this deter you, inside it is amazing. From its kitchen as you enter the front door, sorry no hallway, to a really cosy sitting room up the first flight of steps. Then up another flight of a very steep and narrow steps (with only a rope to hold on to), yes, there's no shortage of steps to two bedrooms, which includes a 5 sided room!

Very sweet cottage built into the side of a hill. Loved the setting and the rooms. The little staircase up to the master bedroom is a delight. Lovely grounds too. Very well done.

Lovely 1899 Arts and Crafts house built into a rocky hillside with adjoining gardens. Entrance is restricted, so visit the National Trust website and book tickets. The car park is nearby with a minibus between. It is a very sloping site, and the old building is not suitable for those with restricted mobility.

I went here for father's Day and we all had a great time. The house is small and quirky but as it was been lived in recently it was relatable and we could imagine living here. The kids picked out their rooms and generally fantasized about living in this wonderful area. The staff were really helpful and friendly. I was glad the weather was good as the house was small for a wet day but overall we would definitely recommend visiting.

Absolutely loved our recent visit to Stoneywell. Make sure to book your visit, park up and wait for the mini bus to drive you to the property. The driver of the bus is chatty and gives a little background information. Once at the property you can use the toilets. We booked a garden tour (with Gill I think) and she was very informative about the different trees, shrubs, flowers etc and I would definitely recommend the tour. We then went down to the lovely cottage and had a tour around that too. Tours make the visit so much more interesting and help you to visualise what it was like to live there. The arts and crafts furniture is lovely and mostly original. There are some stairs in the building so (in my opinion) not really suitable for people who are not steady on their feet. Staircase is quite narrow but please don't let this put you off as it's most definitely worth a visit.

We had a lovely few hours around the grounds. We also had a guided tour around the cottage. But you could have a walk around it to on your own take photos. All the staff were lovely and very knowable. The only down side there was no tea shop and it was a lovely sunny day to have tea and cake out.

What a hidden gem! A lovely visit on Father's Day. Would recommend using the guided tour facility to get the most out of your experience of the cottage. Our guide brought the place to life with her knowledge and great presentation. Lots of Gimson and Beazley furniture pieces to admire and a whole history to unfold. Gardens are beautiful and great for exploring. Take a picnic, as coffee shop is sadly closed. Not expensive and worth every minute you spend there!

A gem of an Arts & Crafts House! Lots of quirky corners. Built into the surrounding rock & surrounded by a peaceful semi natural garden. The NT volunteers were very informative about the history of the place which made it much more interesting to explore.

I loved this house built on a rock not on foundations like most houses. Walking up to it was a very nice surprise in a very nice garden. It was like walking back in time for me. A good introduction fro the staff who are very informative. Because of the way the house was built you could look out of the window and still think your on ground floor from the back. Back to basics and no clutter house with homemade furniture. I could move in next week. I love the garden layout, not to tidy, but left to grow how it should do. With a mixture of different gardens. Well preserved and I will go back there again. Well done to all the staff in keeping this place going.

Love this place. Beautiful in it's charmed simplicity. It was something of a blow to find that the only food available on site is pre packed cake. No sandwiches, nothing to slake an appetite that'd been making increasingly insistent demands since getting up that morning. Honestly, crisps won't suffice. Bring back the food, please.

I really enjoyed this National Trust place. Staff all very helpful. Cathy our guide of the house was very enthusiastic and informative. The gardens ate beautiful. I wish we'd done the garden tour too.

The place is lovely. Lots to see and do. The garden is beautiful and the small tea shop has a nice atmosphere. I will definitely return. You need to book in advance, don't show up as it is a big change that you are not allowed to enter. The carpark is not at the location. But a van will pick you up and transfer you to the location.

A Great experience, Fascinating Local History we've driven by the house 🏡 thousands of times with out knowing the History and Importance of the House, the Architect, and the Builders. Appropriate that the House was built with strict thoughts that it should fit in with the environment, using Local Utilities, and Interesting to see Hand built Furniture still looking top drawer.

When approaching the property using the satnav, follow the directions to the parking lot. There is no parking available outside the building. Visitors are picked up by a small vehicle that travels from the parking lot to the building. The property can only accommodate a specific number of guests, so I advise making a reservation in advance. There is plenty of space outside for you to have picnic and enjoying the garden.

Lovely property & grounds - well worth a visit if you enjoy the Arts & Crafts Movement. Tickets must be booked in advance & there is an option for a guided tour included. The gardens are beautiful but not easily accessible for those with mobility issues & the house was a bit of a challenge for my 85 y/o Mum-in-law, but there were plenty of places to sit & rest. All of the staff were very friendly, well informed & very patient!

Return visit to this stunner of an arts and crafts house. The vols and staff are welcoming and helpful, lots of knowledge. Only one way to make it more enjoyable, please reinstate the tea room properly. ☕🍵😊. Bring back NT scones!

Beautiful arts and crafts house. Catch the guided tour of the garden if you can. At the time there were no guides in the house because of the covid restrictions but a short talk before you went in was welcome.

Small but beautiful arts and crafts house. Set in beautiful grounds in a calm and relaxing location. Good way to spend half a day. Staff and volunteers are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. House has very steep stairs to the upper floors. Tea room was not open but you can bring a picnic.

What a lovely place. Plenty of car parking and a little shuttle minibus to take you to the house. It's only a 10 minute walk but take the bus anyway (so you go to the right place!) and then walk back if you want to. There is no shop here, only a guide book, and no cafe either. So no sausage rolls and no fridge magnet... But there is a lovely woodland walk, some amazing views, and one of the most charming houses I've visited. A lot of places that we've visited seem to have just filled every room with as much period stuff as possible and ended up being a museum rather than a record of how people live. Stoneywell is a bit different in that it really is like looking into someone's life. The architecture is amazing and if you like the "Arts and Crafts", style you'll love this place. And let's be honest, who doesn't like Arts and Crafts? Simple functional style, everything made from local materials, and everything has a function. Compare that to the "Posh junk shops", that most of the massive country houses are like...

Lovely arts and crafts NT property. Lots of original features. Small but beautiful gardens. Mini bus from car park to house or 5 minute easy walk. Book shop and toilets but n longer a cafe. Informative volunteers. Great way to spend an hour.

Did the tour around the gardens with a very knowledgeable and pleasant guide from the National Trust, followed by a tour of the house. It's well worth a visit

Went on a Monday after booking a time slot, quite quiet which suits us. Informative guide took us around the house very interesting, think it would suit an older age group rather than children, overall a nice half a day

I must leave a review of Stoneywell following my visit yesterday. What a wonderful, happy place. Everything was perfect. The cottage, garden, the weather and most especially the volunteers. As many reviewers before me I cannot stress how much they enhanced the experience. Every one of them so friendly and helpful, but must give special mention to our two guides. The lady who showed us round the garden telling us about the plants and much more - will she try the strawberry tree fruit or not? I shouldn’t have favourites because everyone we met went above and beyond, but the Forest fan who showed us round the cottage is definitely the one. So funny and interesting I was sorry when the tour ended. This review is from one of his "empty roomers"
