This is the first wharf in Tonga. They built the new one on it. It is a short walk to downtown Nuku'alofa about 5 - 10 mins. U can catch a taxi outside the gate to go anywhere. They are not marked, but they will approach you. Same as private island tours other than ship's Agent shore excursions. There are money exchange & tourist info stallers. Otherwise, the Banks are all within 5 -15 mins walking.

This is a very special place in the Pacific. It is though not a place where I could’ve done vacation for a longer period of time. The length of a cruise stay + 2-3 days is enough. At the end of the pier, the King of Tonga has his castle. This is walk distance to «the town» where you can find some resturants and shops.

Vuna Wharf is obviously another Chinese paid for structure, same as we've found all through the Pacific, however it allows the Tongans to welcome cruise ship passengers with cultural music and dancing. It's one of the most welcoming places to arrive and instantly feel the people welcoming you are happy to see you. Parts of the old wharf are still to be seen, but fortunately the current wharf has no problem accommodating the large cruise ships. Easy walk from the terminal into Nuku'alofa.

Amazing welcome. Be prepared for the plethora of locals trying to offer taxi services I found it a little overwhelming. Baring in mind this is how a lot of locals make money here but you should negotiated and don't take the first offer in saying that being Maori we paid for our ride which was 40 per person and there were 8 of us and then gave a separate koha to our driver who looked after us for almost 5 hours..

Just a basic wharf, but this is the place to buy your souvenirs and t-shirts from the tents that will be set up whenever a ship arrives.

What can I say? It's a wharf where our ship docked.

Nice warf, built with the assistance of people's republic of China In 2011. Easy to get into town from warf and see main sites.
