Had a wonderful stay at the lodge, pretty room and clean, the vibe is colonial rustic charm. Breakfast is included. Just a walk away from the wharf for whale swimming. A nice balcony to chill. Restaurant reviews: Wonderful seafood, we had lobster (so good and nice sauce), ota ika (nice ceviche), mahi mahi. Big portion and lovely presentation. Waiting time is local island time, so prepare yourself. Ambience better at dinner (after 5pm). Staff was so friendly (the guy helped us with car rental, driving us to the rental. And the girl recommending us food and dessert). Charming place with local vibe and local cute chickens :)

We were on a yacht staying in the harbour so this was very convenient. The staff we really lovely and went out of their way to accommodate us even though they were quite busy. The menu had a NZ flavour to it and the guys enjoyed the large serving sizes. The carvings in the restaurant were amazing.

The people that work there are great, they deserve a raise. Message to the owner get ride of your rooster! Professional hotels want their guests to sleep well and don’t have roosters. We did not sleep well and won’t be back.

I didn’t stay here but i did come to enjoy dinner with some friends and i was very impressed with the quality of the food. I ordered the seafood chowder w/ garlic bread as a starter and then i ordered the salmon for my entree and everything was delicious. Everything was reasonably priced and the food came out very quick.

We went to have dinner at the Waterfront Lodge. The property is located less than 5 mins drive from the main town area along the sea wall. It makes a nice and serene environment if you want to walk down that way. Parking can be an issue at the restaurant! The restaurant gives a good vibe, it is nice and clean. It certainly is a place where you can take your family and friends for dinner. However, we were bit disappointed with the time it took for our dinner to arrive after we ordered. We had to wait atleast 2 hours until our food arrived. I ordered seafood pasta which was very watery and had loads of canned tomatoes. The taste was pale and definitely not recommended. My friends ordered beef lasagna and chicken pasta which looked okay. You gotta have some patience to dine at the Waterfront Lodge.

Although I didn't stay here, I ate at their restaurant and was thoroughly impressed. All the food and drinks were good, and the prices weren't particularly high. I also appreciated that they took credit card. I highly recommend eating at least one meal here if you're visiting Tonga.

I really enjoyed our meal at the Waterfront Cafe we had a group of 4 and it was our last evening in Nukualofa. All of us chose fish, I had the Mahi Mahi and the others had seared Tuna but the menu was extensive. 10/10 delicous and a real treat I would recommend this restaurant to anyone

Food: 6/10 Pork belly was amazing, tasty sauce, pork was perfect and so was the crackling. The mahi mahi was very nice, the fish was cooked to perfection but its sauce was a killer and so was the seaweed wrapped around the fish. The chicken adobo had a very nicely cooked chicken but the sauce was not nice. Ota Ika was ok but i thought it didnt have enough cream though the chilli was nice. Garlic bread was nice and the chips needed salt or some seasoning. Drinks: 6/10 Mango smoothie was very nice Berry smoothie was ok Beer was amazing but maybe a little bit colder next time. Wine was alright.

I was posted to Tonga for work right after the volcanic eruption / tsunami and during covid outbreak. I looked for suitable long-term accommodation after MIQ, and I’m so glad I found Waterfront Lodge, still in tact after the tsunami - but mostly, amazing Liz, the owner. Four of us humanitarian workers were looked after for 2.5 months at Waterfront not as guests but Liz’s own family - with so much love & joy. Liz & Waterfront made our stay so comfortable with tastefully done property, crispy clean room, linen & laundry, accommodating & supporting our busy work schedules, finding safe transport options, making it so welcoming, fancy & safe when we had to host work guests / meetings .. the list goes on. Liz made sure I’m fed well with a range of yum & healthy vegetarian dishes off the menu - the menu known to be the best food in Tonga. Liz & Waterfront made it extra special for us on Birthdays, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day .. and did farewells for each of us too. I could achieve much more than I planned during the posting, thanks to Liz & Waterfront who made my stay THE BEST among all work postings over 20 years. Malo aupito, Liz & Waterfront 🥰

The service and just the ambient is great. The berry mix smoothie is something you should definitely try.The New Zealand stake was very bad.Tough and not juicy at all and i had it medium rare. And one more thing to keep in mind is to bring CASH.It took as a whole hour to charge with card.Overall not bad evening but a dissapointing end because of the card machine not wanting to accept the payment.

Excellent service! The staff are very friendly and accommdating. Waterfront Lodge is a at a great location if you're on Tongapatu for whale swimming. However if you've booked a seaview room, there is a club on the same side which will be blaring music til late on most nights so have headphones prepared.

Quality, sizeable meals. Staff understood gluten-free/coeliac requirements and adjusted dishes where necessary. NZ-focussed menu and wine list.

While this is a charming small hotel with good food and friendly staff they have an issue with their booking system. I paid for one night at the time of booking and was debited again on arrival. Despite my providing proof and Josephine’s efforts no refund was made.
