We were walking around Nuku'alofa looking for a place to have dinner. We came by Mum's Cafe and after looking at the reviews we decided to give it a go. We ordered 'Ota 'ika and grilled chicken with mash potatoes. After a small wait the 'Ota 'ika came out and then the chicken. Both were fantasic! The seafood was fresh and the marinade has a lovely zing. The chicken came with a small salad, lots of mash, lots of chicken and a amazing creamy sauce. If you are looking for a relaxing place to have a great value dinner I would recommend Mum's Cafe.

Hemos comido muy bien en nuestro paso por Tonga, pero sin duda este ha sido donde hemos probado la comida más deliciosa de toda la isla. Sus platos típicos tonganos están deliciosos. Sus camareras son encantadoras.

This was worth the walk from the cruise pier. The selections looked delicious and everyone was welcoming and friendly. Our food was fresh and all organic. The prices were competitive and the portions were great. I recommend the ota ika for the excellent fresh fish.

Their banana cupcakes are absolutely amazing, super delicious and only TOP 3. They also made me a long black (americano) even though it wasn't on the official coffee menu. Thanks so much!!

Used to be better. The Kentucky chicken is soggy and not crunchy nor tasty, chicken tasted off. The chicken nuggets are crunchy but very thin that it's like a schnitzel biscuit and chips are always under. Price is decent nice location away from town.

I had breakfast one morning and went back for the mixed plate and 'ota ika and fried chicken. Food was delicious the 'ota ika was so fresh and the best combination with the kamala. They have western and Tongan food. Service is awesome and the staff are super friendly. Indoor and outdoor dining. You have to be in quick for their Tongan food as it always runs out.

Really enjoyed the outdoor atmosphere, but the neighbors acted as if they hated being next to a restaurant. We walked from town to have lu, but they were out and couldn't say when they would have it. Wish they had what we wanted. It's a half mile walk. Ended up ordering sapasui wich tasted expired. Wouldn't feed it to a dog. The Ota ika was good, and the kale moa was good... but all you can taste was the kale for hours after. The kumala was good and I took with me what we didn't finish because everywhere in town serves fries, garlic bread or rice. Only other place is Escape who serves Kumala with their Ota. That gets big thumbs up. We came from America for Tongan food. Not rice, fries, or garlic bread.

We had takeout fish (marlin) and chips here with a small amount of side salad. The fish was cooked to perfection and a good serving size of it, too. More than enough chips for each of us.

Nice lady on counter. Wife loved the fruit salad. Sandwich was very tasty but was on the dry side.

It took me a few days to research where to go for good local food, partly as the internet here isn’t quite as quick as Sydney, and partly because I have been busy doing what I came here to do, being work! I now regret not doing my research sooner and getting to Mum’s Cafe on the first day! I had the “Tongan Meal” and was not at all disappointed. From the start the service was 5 star, especially as the staff were very polite and helpful in explaining each element of the meal, without making me feel like an outsider. The food came promptly and was all very tasty. The ota ika was fresh and contained a very generous amount of fish, and said fish was fresh, firm and full of great flavour. The Lu, whilst it looking like much, had an amazing salty, porky flavour through it all and paired beautifully with the vibrant purple Taro. The fried fish was also fresh and delicious, and I made myself finish all the fish and left behind the batter. As you’ll see, I didn’t touch the coleslaw. There’s time for that sort of thing when you get back home! My only disappointment was that I had absolutely no chance to fit in any of their desserts, which looked pretty tasty. In the words of Molly Meldrum: “Do yourself a favour” and make Mum’s Cafe the first place you visit when you get to Nuku’alofa, you won’t be disappointed.

I had ‘ota’ika and lupulu. The food was delicious. The fish in ‘ota’ika was marlin today.

    カジキのオタイカが食べれるレストランです。 店内は広く、あまり1人で行くところではないなと思いました。 味はとても良く清潔感があります

Nice clean place. The food is kind of fast food prepared before hand and flavor is good but not amazing.

Great food with good prices. I ordered the Mums burger which was massive and so good! Others in my group ordered the mums breakfast and the chicken burger which they were all satisfied with. Also had a smoothie which was good. Only let down was we ordered Strawberry smoothies. But when the smoothies came they were lemon mango and the waitress said “there’s no strawberry only lemon mango is that ok?”, while placing them in front of us. Would have preferred to be told before hand that strawberry smoothies were unavailable so we could change to a milkshake or another option rather than feeling forced to take a different smoothie because it was being put in front of us. Besides that, I would definitely eat here again. Food was good and great value for money.
