Nice Lunch Spot (probably even better for dinner). We were looking for a decent meal and we found a beautiful restaurant with a stunning view. We ordered the fish and chips plus a fish taco. Both were good and the local beer on draught was ice cold. Waitstaff was kind and courteous. Before we left owner came by to say hello and thank us. It's was a nice touch to a good meal.

What a TOP discovery in Tongatapu main island! This roof top restaurant could have a clearer or light up sign at the bottom of the building therefore don’t miss it when looking for it! Once you exit the lift, you could be mistaken to be in Singapore seen how slick and tastefully decorated the place is! Anyone can tell that the owners have put a lot of effort into bringing to this town what it was missing, an amazing view point! We ordered the ribs and the tuna special, both were delicious, well served and well cooked! The staff is very attentive and served us some chilled beers and a delicious Moscow mule cocktail! The Top gives you what it advertises and the owners should be very proud of what they have achieved! We will absolutely come back... and you should go and discover

It is always delightful to have a nice meal in a place that's a little foreign to you. My first trip to Tonga and I was fortunate to come upon this restaurant. Located on the third floor of a downtown building The view is nice but the breeze is even better. Service was attentive, food was excellent, but the owners ...Bob and Victoria.. really wrap up the package. Delightful all on all aspects. Highly recommend.

We have been to The TOP 4 times since it has opened and every time has been a delightful experience. We’re in love with the view and the food (especially the molten chocolate lava cake, flatbread, and shrimp scampi!!) The staff is very attentive and friendly and the owners, Bob and Victoria, go out of their way to ensure your experience is special. We came for a honeymoon dinner and were treated like royalty. This is hospitality at its best. 11/10 recommend!!!

Für Nuku‘alofa eine top Location. Gutes Essen, anfangs etwas langsamer Service. Wir hatten die Thunfisch-Bowl, Seafood Curry mit Reis und warmen Schokoladenkuchen mit Eis. Angemessene Preise. Empfehlenswert.

Atmosphere is great. Music is nice if u like country n oldies. I order lamb shank. Not like it that much. Not tasty. I give 4 stars for the environment as we came on a group, not for the food.

Awesome place. This is a must go restaurant because this is where quality meets authenticity American food. Being in this place you'll forget where you're at. You'll think you're back in the States somewhere, and food is excellent. I highly recommend this place to everyone including the locals that wants to experience something different. Don't be afraid to try anything on the menu because everything is delicious.

Lovely rooftop restaurant. Food is delicious and service attentive. Tried many restaurants in Tonga and this is the pick for fine dining. Cuisine is American influenced (steak, shrimp etc). Expensive compared to most places in Tonga but still very cheap by international standards and well worth it. Two mains, drinks and dessert for two at around $100 Australian dollars. Seems to prefer bookings and probably required for peak periods. Like everywhere in Tonga I imagine the wait for food would sometimes be long but we were served pretty quickly on a random weeknight. Loved the place. Will definitely be back if in the area.

I recently visited Top Tonga and while there were some positives, the overall experience was marred by significant issues that are hard to overlook. Let me start with the positives: the staff were genuinely friendly and accommodating. They did their best to manage the situation and were as helpful as they could be under the circumstances. However, the negatives far outweighed the positives. We were waiting for our main meal—by up to three hours. I understand that delays can happen, but the lack of timely updates or apologies was disappointing. When I inquired about the status of our food, the owner’s response was not only unhelpful but also shockingly rude. Instead of providing an update, the owner displayed a concerning level of attitude and aggression that they were understaffed. Not only did they yell at me, but they also made offensive comments about my physical appearance. This behavior was completely unacceptable and made the entire dining experience extremely uncomfortable. While the staff tried their best, the owner’s conduct was a major letdown and overshadowed any positive aspects of the visit. I hope the management addresses these serious issues, as no guest should have to endure such treatment. Until then, I would recommend considering other dining options where respect and customer service are priorities.

Beautiful restaurant, open air overlooking the city. They weathered the multiple challenges of COVID, a cyclone, a volcanic eruption, and a Tsunami. The owners are an expat couple who were absolutely delightful. Service was the only issue as they are understaffed, but they tell you this upfront and try to limit to reservations to ensure quality. But they accommodated our party and we didn't mind the wait. The drinks were pricy but very good. Mixology in Tonga!

TOP is located at the top level of three story building in the center of Nuku'alofa. The view is good (mostly of the town and out towards the water) and the services was incredibly attentive. We went for dinner, each had a drink. I had the banana breeze cocktail, my partner had beer (corona- there wasn't much on offer) We had starters. Cheese Quesadilla and my partner had Cheese filled peppers. These were amazing. A liberally amount of cheese for the price you pay. Our main we shared. I had the Mediterranean fish (swordfish - called mahi mahi here in tonga) and bronzed wahoo for my partner. The wahoo was coated in a chili paste. The fish was lovely though a touch dry on the thinner sides of the fillet. My Mediterranean fish was covered in tomato type salsa and capers. The combo was divine then only let down was that the fish was very dry - I did provide feedback to the staff. Would we be back? Probably. We have another restaurant we prefer but this was a nice change.

The atmosphere was wonderful but it took over 2 hours to get food. My group was the first group in and it felt as if the staff forgot about us. We asked several times about the food and no one could give us an answer. When the food finally reached it was not worth the wait. It was bland. I can't see how this is the top rated restaurant on this Island. They definitely need help in the kitchen and the drinks were coming in slow as well. I am disappointed. I expected more from the top rated restaurant.

Wonderful ambience. Great food. Quite pricey but ur paying for the experience too! The waiters are quiet standoff-ish but the owners personally checks up on every table. Lovely guy, met him in the elevator and he welcomed us inside! Lovely view of the sunset. Was shocked to pass the Princess of Tonga on our way out.

The overall experience was terrible. The food was horrible. Limited wine selection and the services provided by staff were horrible. The restaurant owner was fast to throw me under the bus when I put up on Facebook that my experience was not so good. Victoria the owner wrote me at her defense that I was merely in mean spirited downgraded her restaurant. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for fine dining. The wine was horrible, and again at her defense they could not find good wine selections. For a restaurant this magnitude, they should be getting their wines from New Zealand and stock up. There was only one bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and when we ordered it, they gave it already to another table. We then ordered Pinot Grigio, and this bottle was tasteless and seemed very old. The quality of food was again disgusting. Lamb was ordered without the sauce or gravy (whatever they called it) -- request was to put sauce or gravy on the side. When they were asked to take them away, the plate was returned stating (by the chef) that the lamb was actually slow cooked in the gravy. There was beef salad, and the meat was so hard. There were other issues with the food and so I will end it there. Overall, it was definitely a horrific experience. Please owners, try to be proactive and up your game. I had traveled the world and had enjoyed numerous top-notch restaurants.

Great food, great service and a view to die for. Whether it’s a quick bite to eat, or your looking for a place to hang out for an arvo, with a nice glass/ bottle of wine. The Top will not disappoint. Hopefully more contracts will bring us back this way. See you again ( hopefully soon) Bob ❤️🚢🍷

Excellent food taste, and it's a real privilege getting to meet and talk to the chef/owners. If you only get mains, the food portion is on the smaller side, but would make for a nice 3 course meal. I've been back here more than once as it serves as an excellent venue for a formal occasion. The kava tea they serve here is also excellent

The couple of negative recent reviews are in my opinion a bit unfair. Everywhere on Island is short-staffed and TOP gets busy in the evenings. I struggle to believe some of the details in the low rating reviews. The owners are a lovely couple and normally they would come for a chat at the table. Last I went both were helping on the floor and in the kitchen due to staff shortages. As you would expect the locally sourced foods are the best. I don't know why anyone would order non local foods and then complain that they weren't as good as expected. Local seafood is excellent. It's literally caught by hand each day. In summary the owners are lovely, the staff are good, unfortunately they are currently short-staffed, it's a great venue. Maybe place your orders when you book so the kitchen can be prepared. That's what my local colleagues do when eating out. The menu has many options so look at it ahead of time. The desert options are pretty damn good if you save room for them. This is one of my regular choices for dinner when working at the hospital.

Great meal here last night. Food was excellent and the environment is a super relaxing vibe. But what made our night special was the staff. All of the staff seemed to care that you were enjoying yourself and being served. However, special praise for the young boy who when I asked about WiFi he told me that there was no WiFi but not to worry I will allow you to hotspot via my phone. No that is customer service! We have booked to eat again here

Fantastic food, service and view. Excellent bar and selection of wines. Very personal touch with the owners visiting every table. All at very reasonable prices and they take credit cards. We were delighted!

+ atmosphere very nice up there + food tasted really good - tofu, vegetables and rice tasted delicious, but it was a very small portion - beans-burger tasted as it was grilled on the meat-grill. For vegetarians, that‘s a no go

I had high hopes for The Top in Tonga after hearing great things about the food and service. While the food was indeed delicious, and the service from the waitstaff was friendly, the wait time was absolutely unacceptable. We waited over 3 hours without receiving our meals, despite the restaurant not being overly busy. When we politely mentioned the long wait to the owner, things took a bizarre turn. Instead of addressing the issue, he became shockingly belligerent and aggressive, eventually kicking us out of the restaurant. It was the most unprofessional and rude behavior I’ve ever encountered from a restaurant owner. Great food and friendly staff, but if you’re looking for a place that values your time and treats customers with respect, I’d suggest looking elsewhere. This was a disappointing and bewildering experience.
