Our Lady of Merces (Mercy) Church in Colva, Goa is a magnificent Church built as a chapel in 1630. The Portuguese called this church as “Nossa Senhora das Merces Igreja em Colva, Goa” – literally meaning Our Lady of Mercy Church in Colva, Goa. This relatively small church has the Lady of Mercy in the central altar. It has the Infant Jesus (Menino Jesus in Portuguese) enshrined inside in whose honor they celebrate a grand festival. This embellished statue of the Infant Jesus was found in a shipwreck some time in 17th Century somewhere in Africa coast by Fr.Bento Feriera – a Jesuit Priest. The Infant Jesus is venerated with special devotion and on the feast day ‘Colva Fama’ thousands of pilgrims converge here to celebrate. The feast is celebrated on the second Monday of October every year. The interiors of the church are adorned with gold plated metal adornments and portraits of saints in the main aisle. You will spend quite a bit of time in the quiet Church appreciating the grandeur of this Church. You will find Infant Jesus High School behind the Church. Colva is a quiet destination in picturesque Goa with fine sand beaches. I have been driving to Goa every alternate years and still I have not seen the entire Goa.

This is an important landmark of Colva, Goa. It is located at the Colva Junction where there is a circle and crossroads. It is a beautiful white painted old church and the local people come here for daily worship. There is a school nearby and the area is always crowded because of the traffic.

The parish of Colva, this is a 400 year old church, if I'm not mistaken, and houses the miraculous statue of Infant Jesus. Every October, lakhs of people throng to Colva to venerate the image of infant Jesus which is under heavy security, including 5 layers of locks and bullet- proof glass! Once a year, in October, the statue is brought down for veneration.

An incredibly beautiful church with a rich history. I had the opportunity to attend the morning New Years mass here, which was at the usual 9:30AM since it was a Sunday. The mass was in English, and the choir was just amazing. Blessed to have attended the mass with my family.

Beautiful for a photos. Couldn't get inside as there is a dress code which is applicable to all tourist churches around goa. So, if you want to go inside then wear clothes covering from neck to toe. Shorts and mini skirts not allowed.

Our Lady of Merces Church is famous for the fama (fama de Menino Jesus) which is held in the month of October every year. Where in the miraculous statue of infant Jesus is taken down from the altar for veneration followed by novenas and feast. The miraculous statue is said to be found on the shore of Colva beach which draws people with many intentions.

Our Lady Of Mercy church, also known as Igreja de Nossa Senhora das Merces, was founded in 1630 and rebuilt in the eighteenth century in the village square. This church is specially known for its feast which is held in October every year. Every year, on the second Monday of October, they celebrate the Colva Fama. A feast of the celebration of infant Jesus. During the feast, a wax statue of the infant Jesus is brought down from the altar and venerated by the devotees. The area is quite peaceful inspite of heavy traffic on the adjoining road which leads to the Colva beach.
