Bendigo Pottery is a must see place if you visiting. I loved this place, with so much to offer including museum display, shop, an eatery ... Then go and discover the secondhand/antiques Emporium. These Kilns are still in use producing lovely pottery still sold and very much in demand. Thoughly enjoyed looking at the old kilns . So much to see, infact we sent a weekend. I very much look forward to my next visit.

Bendigo Pottery is a must see if you are interested in the history of Victoria. To say its astonishing is an understatement. I was introduced to their wares many years ago, but to see where they were made is a different thing altogether. But the great aspect is, its a living museum, as Bendigo Pottery still is in operation - but not using the old kilns. A bonus is the antique shop, where there are over 40 market stalls with gorgeous antiques. On top of that is a cafe as well, with fair prices. Access is easy, and wheelchair friendly. Parking limited.

Bendigo Pottery is a fantastic place to visit and if you can't afford the sound products they have a large range of seconds to choose from at a reduced price. There are kilns and products to see as well as children's clay classes. Adjoined to the pottery are several artists galleries and studios which are a good peek in point BUT beware...there is a fantastic Antique and Collectible shed on site as well. There was nothing I didn't want to take home with me in there...you need ample time to just view the items in this area. The pottery is wheelchair accessible and paths are smooth. There are amenities for public use. The best time to visit would be in cooler weather as there is no air conditioning. One can't visit without bringing home a memento - for me, a handpainted mug!

Such a wonderful place. We had to control ourselves in not buying everything in the shop. Very friendly staff.

What a amazing place, where history meets today. The disused pottery kilns mixed with the collection of pottery is well thought out. The collectables section is also interesting.

I am rating my experience of attending the Bendigo Pottery's wheel throwing lesson, and with the customer-facing staff of the pottery. The pottery lesson for four students included guidance from the local potter and his help with creating two pieces on the wheel. After the session, the instructor offered some options on how to finish the new creations. In all cases, the clay products had to stay in the pottery for some time. For an additional cost, each student could select one of four colours for each of their pieces, letting the staff complete the process of firing and glazing, making the pottery food-safe. The potter was patient and encouraging, and the activity seemed suitable for school-age children. Additionally, flyers mentioned "clay play" sessions for the pottery's young visitors. The ladies on the front desk were welcoming and helpful. For a fee, they offered to organise shipping of the products of the pottery lesson. The building also featured a shop, a small exhibition of ceramics, a paid-entry museum, an antique store, and a cafe.

Never knew about this place and a local from a cafe mentioned it to me and I’m glad she did. It’s a great place! The pottery is amazing and it was so beautiful to be able to walk around the old kilns that once worked. There is also a little cafe and other little artist studios that you can visit when they are open. Really sweet place to visit just a 9mins drive out of Bendigo. Well worth it.

Visiting the pottery is a must when in Bendigo. The place is good attraction for all ages. They offer pottery experience where you can make and design of your own. Otherwise, they sell made ones and you can buy per piece or in bulk if you want to upgrade your homewares or kitchenwares at home. They also have a cafe with a selection of yummy pastries, pies, coffees, and soups. The place was very enticing because of how fragrant and salivating the dishes were. Customers can have a take away coffee to drink while going around. Another part is a big antique shop. It offers various things ranging from vases, tea cups, toys, jewelries, and many more. There is a museum for $8, but wasn't able to check as we were lacking time. Overall, will be coming back to visit with family and friends.

Lots of history and local charm. Went on a cold & wet weekend, but it didn't spoil the experience. Easy self guided tour where you can see the original kilns and way the pottery worked, in days gone by and a lovely large undercover shop featuring an assortment of ceramic pieces made on premises. Great for self or as gifts. There is a cafe on site, ample parking, opportunities to do workshops if you have time and some other local artisan shops on site. Not far from central Bendigo. Do yourself a favour & make time to visit. Enjoy.

Bendigo pottery is famous for a reason. They are awesome. We have attended the pottery classes on the wheel with our kids. They and I, loved it. For a small fee you can get your creation fired and glazed. A great thing to do on the holidays with the kids. I have found many a treasure in the antique center out the back also.

Very interesting self tour through the factory. There are all the old kilns as well as a theatre set up in one off them. The pottery is beautiful.

First time I have ever visited, my Dad was a Potter there in the '80s, was really awesome to see how big and solid this place was. Plus the fact that it is still operational and sells really high quality ceramics.

Visited for the first time today and hope to return in the future. Such an interesting history and of course wonderful pottery. I took a half hour pottery class and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it. Extremely reasonably priced and for an extra ( and very reasonable) cost you can have your creations glazed, fired and posted to you. The potter, Will, who took the class was friendly, knowledgeable and encouraging. I would have loved to have been able to stay all day throwing pots! The receptionist/sales lady was also lovely. Extremely helpful and also offered information on other local places to visit. All in all a 5* experience

What I loved about this place was the huge number of stalls of quirky vintage and antique goods next to the pottery. Very reasonably priced and hundreds of thousands of items to look at or buy. What I didn’t love was that the place is closed on TUESDAYS so I went on a Wednesday only to find that some areas of the premises are closed on the Wednesday. But that huge area of wares needs 1-2 hours to scour properly. Absolutely blown away.

I visited Bendigo for a short break from work, thinking I would just see the Elvis exhibition and visited some parks. Unexpectedly on the last day of my stay, I had a little time on hand and found out I could reach the Bendigo Pottery by bus. I am so glad that I did. It became a highlight of my stay in Bendigo this time. I was received by a friendly staff at the reception. Walking into the museum was like stepping back in time, you can still smell the ash, and I felt I could hear the noise of all these men and boys working and talking... I enjoyed stepping back in time and appreciating the stories shared through the audio visual aids, photos and preserved artefacts. At the back of the museum, the pottery continues to produce fine clay products. One young staff told me he usually works at the front education studio but they were short of staff, so he was working on-site. Another older staff answered my questions on the products they were making: I didn't know the white clays are still being mined locally! The Pottery has an extensive shop area, where you can get any current products or seconds. I happily picked up a beautifully made pudding bowl and a mug. Walking out from the shop area into the educational studio, I had a good chat with the master potter Rod while he sophisticatedly made a beautiful bowl. 👍 The cafe is small, simple but cosy. I had a delicious savoury scone with a nice caffe latte before catching a bus back in town for my train home. Strongly recommend this gem.

Worth a visit if you've never been. Large selection of overpriced pottery which I would not describe as outstanding in any way compared to other artisan pottery. The other half of the warehouse is filled with opshop quality "antiques" priced to suit those who don't know any better. There is a cafe on the premises but was closed on our visit, so I can't say much about their wares. There are a few artisan shops on the premises, sculptures, jewellery, clothing, soaps...etc. As I said, worth a visit if you've never been.

My family visited this beautiful pottery that had a lot of things to see and learn about. There was live viewing of how the objects are made out of clay in the wheel which was really nice for the kids too see and learn about. There was an antique shop there too which was interesting to look at as the objects were quite intriguing. Staff were so helpful and charming.

Everyone had a blast! Kids got to make some clay animals and a little coil pot each then I had a try at using the pottery wheel. $20 for the lesson and then $10/piece to be fired and glazed is excellent value and you then have a unique piece of pottery (or three). Bear in mind that firing and glazing takes 2-3 weeks so unless you're local, coming back soon or are willing to pay postage it's not a single day event. The rest of the space is fantastic as well, the kids loved watching a glass bead be made and the pottery pieces for sale in the gallery are more than fairly priced for heavy handmade built to last crockery.

Disappointed with rude staff here. Was planning to buy quite a bit of stuff but don't like dealing with unpleasant people so no sale!! Am very surprised that such a major tourist destination does not employ pleasant people.

Drove all the way up from Melbourne to see this place. Sign and advertising says it is open until 5. Arrived before 5 and there were two women at the door who stopped me from going in!! What a waste of a long drive!! Don't go here - plenty of other nice friendly potteries and craft shows in the area that deserve your business more. I find the response to my comment curious. I arrived well before closing time eager to make many purchases. The day was not hot - it was pouring with rain! Perhaps you have mistaken me for yet another customer that you turned away? Perhaps a staff review is in order given that this is a major tourist destination and there is nothing in your advertising that says no entry after a certain time or "last entry 4pm" or anything similar. Your staff also need training in better manners. Very disappointed

  • 1/5 Brian B. 4 years ago on Google
I am so disappointed that the clay that was used when it all started looks nothing like the clay they used to use & no rare sets of the original salt glaze would now & again get batches that would reflect the light causing the color to change in different lighting or the angle looked from the best potter I ever seen has no photos on this site he would be passed away by now I would think the stuff the pottery used to throw away are better than anything I can see I tried to make a casserole in a newer one it looked the same as the old ones but it broke in the oven the clay was nothing like the original clay
