Delicious Eritrean food! Definitely the kind of place to order 3-4 dishes with a group of friends and try a bit of everything! All of their main dishes were delicious but make sure to get the Sambosas while you're there! Overall price is solid, food is delicious and the owner is wonderful so come support a local business!

Good vegetarian options. I tried the abbeys vegetarian combo and baklava. The combo had 4 of the standard items one would get in a veggie Ethiopian combo (2 red and one yellow lentil, side made of cabbage carrot potato), some salad and also a dish made of okra which I really liked. The red lentils were really good. I also liked the baklava. The injera itself was a little sourer than what I would ideally like but overall great food.

One of my favorite restaurants in Oakland. The food is delicious, and I always leave feeling nourished and comforted. Would recommend the veggie combo and the mushroom tibbs! I also appreciate that their injera is 100% teff, so no extra cost for our gluten free folks.

LOVE this place. Absolute best Eritrean food we've tried anywhere - including LA and Seattle where they say has some of the biggest populations outside of Eritrea. THE PEOPLE It's owned and run by the family. The mother is the chef and daughter is pretty much always there waiting customers. It looks like the restaurant itself is an extension of their home (or at least A home). THE FOOD The best part is that they have an extensive vegetarian menu beyond just the standard "veggie platter" you can get at any Ethiopian or Eritrean place. MUST TRY THE MUSHROOM TIBS. Every carnivore we've taken here has loved it. Also get the veggie sambusas (similar in concept to an Indian samosa or a fried dumpling). Always super fresh. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Like any good fried things should be.

Nice Ethiopian food and very good service. The food is little spicy, but kids really like it. Definitely we will go again to try different dishes.

I enjoyed the food and the ambiance of the outdoor seating area. Everyone that worked there was friendly and helpful. My friend and I shared the Abby's veggie combo (vegan). My friend also had the Shrimp Tibsy, which he liked. They take reservations online through Yelp. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

Very friendly staff and vibe is very good but the portion was pretty small compared to other places or their pictures. I would have given five stars if the portion was like the pictures they posted here. It was delicious nonetheless.

Absolutely delicious. We got Abby’s veggie combo, which fed two. Packed with flavor and cooked with love. Was pleased to see so many vegetarian options too! Lovely staff. Will be back again soon.

Alex was happy to customize and cook fresh Jain food for us without onion/garlic. Very pleased with the hospitality. The food was delicious and the ambience is lively.

This is a family owned business. The daughter, a high school freshman, makes baklava. The mom is the chef and her recipes are from her mother. It is a personalized experience with very nice people. We were the last ones to leave and rather than telling us to go, they said to take our time and lock up the restaurant when we want to go. Who does that? A kind family.

OKAY YUM!!! Wish I could give Shewat 800 stars!! This is the best neighborhood Ethiopian spot in all of North Oakland. I sometimes lay in bed just dreaming of the Abby’s Veggie Platter because it’s THAT.GOOD. No joke. See pix below of my loved one’s full face smiles. Grinning ear to ear!! We also brought friends who hadn’t tried Ethiopian food before and they LOVED IT!! The highest reviews. Get the honey ginger tea also :)

Absolutely delicious food, and such friendly and welcoming owners! Try the lamb alicha, probably the tastiest Ethiopian dish I’ve had in the US!

We ate here over a year ago passing through and I am still dreaming of the next time I get to stop and eat here. Enough to come back to leave a review months later. Simple, amazing food. My foodie kid AND my picky kid BOTH loved the dinner. Absolutely delicious!

I cannot believe how delicious this food is!!! I order the meat combo which included a chicken dish a beef dish and lentils. It was perfectly spiced. Just so tasty. Nice portion size too. Best Ethiopian or Eritrean food I have had in the Bay area!

This is by far the absolute best Ethiopian food I have ever had. I could eat the injera, shiro, lentils, and mushroom tibsy literally everyday and be happy. This is our new go to for sure. Lovely outdoor seating and super friendly staff. Thanks so much!!

Great food, friendly and helpful staff. We reserved through Google Maps which ended up working out and they were responsive. No wait on a Saturday evening at 6:30PM. Would recommend the veggies (lentils were awesome) and the sambusas. Honey wine was interesting. Sweet with a very distinct herbal taste to it.

This was our first experience with Ethiopian food. It was delicious. We had several dishes with lamb, shrimp prepared two different ways. I highly recommend this restaurant.
