This grand staircase is a very ceremonious way to enter Odessa from the port. Paved with granite, the stairway was ordered by Prince Vorontsov as a gift to his wife and built at the turn of the 1840s. There are 192 steps in total, over a length of 142 metres and a difference in elevation of 27 metres. The stairway has a few intriguing quirks: One is that it is much broader at the bottom (21.7 metres) than at the top (12.5 metres). That is intentional and was done to create a false perspective and make the stairway seem larger when you’re viewing it from below. Also interesting is that when you’re standing at the top you can see only the landings while from the bottom you can see only steps.

The site is located in a temporary military restricted area and is only accessible to residents and military personnel on duty. If you go from below to the stairs you can photograph up through the NATO wire but there are guards there too. And you obviously should not do it.

One of the important places you must see in Odessa, don’t forget walking near forest, it is also near sea side, harbour, check around and take more pics, it is really suggested to visit. And there is a funicular train near stairs who doesn’t want to climb.

This is not the Potemkin Staircase, but the Dyukov Staircase.. it was always called either the Nikolaev Staircase or the Dyukov Staircase..

This is probably the best view point in Odessa, you can see the port and sea, for best views visit just before sun set and it is absolutely gorgeous. A must visit in Odessa.

The stairs and the port are about the only things worth seeing in Odessa, but today, June 2023 the whole place is closed off and heavily militarised.

The stairs are really impressive. After going down and up once, your daily requirement for exercise is covered. A visit, especially to the harbor at the foot of the stairs, is definitely worth it. At the foot of the stairs there is also a small kiosk and a souvenir stand.

Newly remodeled stairs are great! The area surrounding the stairs is a new park with lots of benches and sites to see. Pleasant experience for sure. There is also a children's playground that's clean and new!

It’s not so hard to accomplish that, guys! Especially when you’re hungry and you know that upstairs is food 😂 But, honestly, beautiful place with a nice view of the Sea Port and the sea itself. In the square up there are colorful buildings and nice historical monuments. And a bunch of cool restaurants and bars! 😉

Definitely one of the must see places in Odessa! The sheer size of these monumental steps is amazing! And after the recent renovation they look even more beautiful. Also surrounded by new parks, right by the city center and also right by the Port. Perfect place to be!

A compulsory place to visit in Odessa. The most recognizable and at the same time one of the most crowded places. Personally, I thought they will be bigger and most impressive. But anyway the way upstairs is tiring. Beautiful view at the harbor. The stairs- a bit messy. I recommand to take the picture of them from the other side- there's a platform in the harbor.

Odessa is a neat, clean, peaceful City. Potemkin Stairs is one of The symbolic places of Odessa. The stairs are considered a formal entrance into the city from the direction of the sea. The stairs were so precisely constructed as to create an optical illusion. A person looking down the stairs sees only the treads, and the risers are invisible; whereas a person looking up sees only risers, and the treads are invisible.

And they also proudly hung a huge plaque about this memorable event. Shame on the city, I am waiting for the will and money and someone to restore the real Potemkin. (Original) Должен дать 5 звёзд, историческое очень красивое место. Но город сделал отвратительный ремонт. Вместо реставрации сделали безликое современное г@вно. (Translated by Google) The Military History Museum in Ochakov was opened in 1972. Initially, it was located in the building of a former mosque. The highlight of the museum was the diorama "The Storming of the Ochakov Fortress by Russian Troops in 1788". Then it was a fashionable novelty, tourists from all over the Union came to see it. A visit to the diorama was included in the program of my cruise along the Dnieper. We arrived in Ochakov, and the museum had a day off that day. I did not see the diorama. And here is the second attempt many, many years later. And bummer again. It turned out that in 2000 the military history museum moved to the very center of Ochakov, to a large two-story building, which is better suited for a museum. Exhibitions with many exhibits from the storage of the museum are freely located here. But not a diorama. Its dimensions simply do not fit into the building space. It is necessary to build a separate room for it. And this requires large investments, and not from the local budget. Museum staff write to Kiev, write, but to no avail. And the personality of Suvorov, you understand, is not so popular in Ukraine. The accents have shifted. The topic of the Russian-Turkish war is not relevant now. We are not at war with Turkey, but we fly there on vacation under the all-inclusive program. Although for me personally, the transformation of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul into a mosque is a slap in the face that burns on my cheek. By the way, they have a Panorama of the capture of Christian Constantinople by the Ottomans in Istanbul. They constantly take schoolchildren there to be proud of their history. And our ancestors beat the Turks very well, and we should not forget about it. It is a pity that we do not know how to store history. By the way, a weather vane (weighing more than 300 kg) rotates on the roof of the museum, which was previously on the building of the mosque.

Loved the place, perfect for just sitting on the stairs and watching the view, having a short coffee chat with the friends It's crowded naturally, so might not be the best spot to relax on day time.
