A striking example of how Odessa residents can come up with a landmark for themselves. Educational and entertaining, especially if you visit this place with a good guide. The bust itself, without a well-told story, is not that interesting. And they also say that under it... still... In general, the guide will tell you everything...)))

Interesting history of the monument. How did he end up in this courtyard and who does Zamenhof look like? The man was interesting

It's easy to pass by without knowing about it. But the quiet courtyard with the bust of the famous linguist is a must-see! An interesting story, even more interesting incidents associated with it (just look at the stories about the round dances of communists who confused this bust with Lenin)...

A unique bust in the yard of an ordinary Odessa yard. The star on the chest should be green, and this is the sign of the Esperanto language!

Why reinvent the wheel when you can invent a new language?).

Monument to the Polish doctor and linguist, creator of the artificial language Esperanto. It is located in the courtyard of a residential building, to enter you have to wait for local residents to open the closed gate...

In the evening (night) the entrance to the courtyard is almost always closed (metal gates with a combination lock), but you can wait for residents entering or leaving the courtyard and go to see the monument. When you leave the yard, please close the gate behind you.

The bust of Ludvik Zamenhof was installed in 1959 in the courtyard of house No. 3 on Deribasovskaya Street, where the Esperantist sculptor Nikolai Vasilyevich Bazhenov (the author of the bust of L. Zamenhof) lived. This is the world's first (and so far only) monument to the creator of the Esperanto language. In those years, it was not customary to install sculptural images of real people in courtyards, especially since the Esperanto language was actually outlawed. Therefore, as Odessa legends say, Bazhenov told employees of certain services that the plaster sculpture was an image of his father; It was placed on the lid of an old well so that an accident would not occur: the ubiquitous boys could get into the well and fall... Soon everything became clear, but times have already changed. Enthusiasts periodically restored the monument, because gypsum is a fragile material. I didn’t find this bust right away, but I really liked it. To erect a monument to Zamenhof in multinational Odessa is very symbolic.

(Translated by Google) The monument is not bad, but it is in a private enclosed courtyard, so most tourists will not be able to see it. (Original) Пам'ятник непоганий, але знаходиться в приватному закритому подвір'ї, а отже більшість туристів не зможе його побачити.
