The castle looks great, even though some early renovations weren't the best. The views are awesome, the peacocks pretty and fun to watch, the gardens are interesting, but.... it has no armouries, not a single sword or a bow, just a few canons in the garden and raw walls and towers. I'm kinda upset to be honest.

Very well preserved castle and keep. The trek to the castle is a bit, but if you walked through Lisbon for a couple of days, it won't seem bad. You can easily buy tickets online and save the time (quite the queue when we were) by going straight to the turnstiles. The views of Lisbon are magnificent and you get refreshments on site. There are toilets on site and a souvenir shop. A museum and an archaeological site to cover the historic preservation of the site. All in all great couple of hours spent.

Definitely a place to visit. To enjoy every view and corner, I would reserve at least two hours for the place - with nice weather, even more. Comfortable shoes are a must (goes without saying) and even though there are some bars in the castle (not expensive), I would still bring some snacks with me. Definitely most panoramic, beautiful views in the area. Some might mind the entry fee but I think it’s worth the money spent.

Wow this place was amazing it was one of the best places we visited on our trip to Lisbon. The views are amazing there's so many places to see and walk around. There were stunning peacocks everywhere the grounds were meticulously kept clean and the workers were extremely friendly. We thought we would just pop in but we ended up staying for at least an hour and a half it cost 10 euros per person and it is well worth the money. I have included some pictures with my review but to honest to see it in person was breathtaking.

Lots to see and do here. There's a bunch of restaurants down below before you enter the castle. At this time, they DO NOT accept the Lisboa card, but I'm told that might change later. So make sure and ask. Once inside the castle, there's some great views of Lisbon from many angles. You can climb to the castle wall and walk the edge for some more views. Be aware that when there are a lot of people, it becomes difficult to move around the edge. Watch your footing and be careful. Inside the castle itself, it's mostly empty. Still there are some nice seating areas and a lot of photo opportunities. Look for the peacocks running loose. There's basically friendly, but don't try to pet them. There are a lot of older cannons you can find, some of them are roped off. Inside the walls are a few cafe's as well. Off to one side is a small museum that tells some history of the Castle and of Lisbon. Plan at least 3-4 hours, maybe more.

We loved visiting the castle, the views from the top are some of the best in Lisbon! Buy your ticket online ahead of time to skip the line and beat the crowd inside. The day we visited, there was a long line out of the gate to get in, but it includes the line to get tickets, so save the time by getting them ahead of your visit! Give yourself at least an hour (if not a couple) to go through here. We enjoyed time soaking in the views, walking around the castle, watching the many peacocks, and walking through the museum where they had many different relics found on the property with some history highlights. If you're afraid of heights, don't climb up the castle walls, but there is still plenty to see if you don't go up there. My mother and grandmother waited below while I walked around the castle walls. Overall, it was a great visit!

The castle was a great experience because you get a mixture of things there. You get a cool garden of peacocks, which is always very cool. There are also great views of the city from the tower and walls. There are also exhibits in a small museum inside the castle for history buffs. There wasn't much in the way of litter. A reminder that you will be to be physically able as there are quite a few steps to get around the caste walls.

Please buy the tickets online!!!!! Also it’s going to be a hike from the cruise ship so consider taking some type of transportation if you are short on time. You can always walk your way down. The line can get extremely long as you can see in the picture. But once you are in, you will be treated to linear near panoramic view of the city. There are food and drink carts on the premise as well, along with a small museum that is free to enter There is no castle interior to speak of though. This place is all about exterior walls and fortress.

Lovely castle remains overlooking Lisboa and the water. A small artifact museum and a Roman ruins area as well. Plus lots of pretty peacocks. And amazing views all around. Buy tickets online in advance to avoid the ticket buying queue that can snake down the hill from the front entrance.

We rode the #28 tram and got off at the viewpoint. Then we walked up to the Castle. The views from there are spectacular. You can see all around the city. In the Castle you can climb up stairs and be able to look over the walls. There are no furnishings as it was built for defense. There's also a site outside the walls where ancient artifacts have been unearthed. The area has beautiful peacocks that strut around. There is a museum with tiles and pottery from many ages that have been found and pieced together. There is also a gift shop and restaurant. There is a fee to get into the grounds.

Highly recommend a walk up to the castle. On a gorgeous sunny day the views across Lisbon are breathtaking. The little shops and cafes are a bit of a tourist trap but still tempting to stop off for a coffee and a well earned break.

Nice big castle where you can walk along the walls and get amazing views of the city. However there’s not much information or history to engage with except a few signs and a small museum with some pottery. There are also some peacocks wandering around. Overall I still really enjoyed it and felt it was worth the 10 euro ticket price.

This is a must see when in Lisbon! It’s on top of a hill where you could get a great view of the whole city! It’s a really cool to walk around in and super fun! If you’re there for sunset, grab some cocktails and enjoy the view! If you can get tickets in advance, I highly recommend you do that. The line can get pretty long. Great photo and video ops! Be sure to wear pants or shorts as it gets really windy up there! The peacocks roam the castle! Because of how huge it is, it does not really get too crowded. Don’t miss it!

Personally I think one needn't go here. The entrance fee is rather high and there are plenty of good (free) viewpoints all over the city. The castle itself and its gardens are nice but still not worth the fee. Decide for yourself and if you got time over in Lisbon it's surely good enough to kill 2 hours but don't prioritize it.

Plan to spend a day or at least half a day here... Especially if you like taking photos. There's so many great vantage points of not just the castle but also all of Lisboa. There's also a nice cafe on the site to sit and enjoy a relaxing meal.

    — HONEST REVIEW — 8.1/10 ⭐️- Sunset Recommendation Amazing views of Lisbon at the top of the hill! A relatively large castle to explore and gives you the chance to walk along the walkway of the castle wall. There are no safety bars along the wall and the staircase to go up is quite narrow and steep. Even though there was a lot of people, it was quite spacious and allowed you to enjoy your own scenic walk. The price for ages 13-25 is only 5€ and is definitely worth the price especially during the sunset. Really nice aesthetic vibes. The walk to the entrance is up an inclined hill but worth the walk!

You can spend quite a few hours in this beautiful castle ruin. Standing high above the city, you can enjoy a wonderful view in all directions, many of the city's landmarks can be viewed here from a bird's eye view. You can relax in the arbors, but there is also room to climb up and down, and the garden is well maintained. All in all, it's worth the price of admission.

Stunning. The views are incredibly beautiful, and the castle wasn't even crowded when we visited. It is so worth the price of admission, as Castelo de S. Jorge was possibly the highlight of our trip to Lisbon. We didn't buy tickets ahead of time like we probably should've, but the line to buy tickets on site wasn't bad at all (though I'd still recommend buying in advance). It is just so worth it for the view. From the castle, you can look down on the city in all directions; it's gorgeous, quiet, and peaceful. There are also a couple peacocks wandering the ground nearby; if you're lucky, you'll see one.

The castle itself is not the most impressive, being built in a more practical and not too lucrative older style, the thing that makes this spot worth the visit is the view. For 10 euros (5 for students) you get to experience a breathtaking view of just about the whole city from up above while walking through the ruins of the old castle. But don't take my word for it, just take a look at any of the pictures to get yourself convinced.

Beautiful castle and worth the legwork to get up there. Price of admission wasn't too bad, especially when paying online and jumping past the line to get it. We enjoyed some fresh crepes and ginjinha in the classic chocolate shooter (SO good!). The peacocks were a nice surprise, and there were so many of them. The mating dance was so awesome to watch, and definitely made for some good pictures and video. Can't wait to come back.

Great self-guided tour of the historical Lisbon castle. Well worth the price of admission and at your own pace. We were able to capture some great shots of the city and enjoyed out time spent there. We took the trolley up the hill which was fun and inexpensive.

Honestly, I don’t think it’s necessary to enter the castle. It’s 15 euro and there’s not all that much to see on the grounds. You can walk up the towers and get nice views, but there are plenty of other places in the city to get the same view for free. Not much to see in the museum of artifacts from the castle. Overall, quite underwhelming and not worth the cost in my opinion.

This place is huge ! Mostly empty but huge. And high. Huge and high.. so that means hundreds of stunning views over Lisbon. Pick a clear day and you could see forever I reckon. There are cafes inside and a neat museum of things uncovered. Unfortunately the BCE ruins were inaccessible on the day we went, but are being preserved so that’s awesome and further adds to the second oldest city on earth claim that Lisbon makes. If you suffer vertigo don’t go, the walls are very high, and there is minimal railing so it’s a vertigo sufferers nightmare I imagine. Great to see, looks like it will keep getting better and the views are so much better than the elevator. Allow at least a couple of hours or more if you like museum artifacts peacocks and soaking in views. Be a bit fit if you plan on walking there.. it’s a short walk but very uphill !

As city castles go this one was pretty good and I've seen a few. Good views out across Lisbon and the river. The castle has been well restored over many years, but not over restored to turn it into something that looks fake. At only 10 euros entry fee it's a bargain and as Lisbon is a bit short on 'big ticket attractions' for tourists this is one definitely worth making time for. Allow a couple of hours for a leisurely stroll around allowing time to sit in one of the many shady spots. Buy tickets online in advance to avoid the queue.

This castle was rebuilt almost from scratch in 1940's. Very few features are original. So nothing historicalt great. However what they've rebuilt is looking good. It's nice to wander through and walking on the castle walls high above Lisbon. Great views. Price £10. Not included in Lisbon card nor any discount either.

What an incredible place! I may be slightly biased as this was my first official castle I’ve ever visited, but it did not disappoint. Even the long, weaving roads to get up there were beautiful. Near the entrance there is a little place to get a light lunch as well as some ice cream for reference. Getting in the castle for us was much easier as we have an infant and you are a priority entry for the castle, so we got to the front for tickets and walked in. If you don’t bring a baby, get there early as the line can get really long. Inside, the courtyard is beautiful and shaded with plenty of sitting areas if you’d like to stay and chill. The views are incredible! The castle itself is fun to explore and walk around, with several peacocks just strolling around. They’ve been fed by humans so be careful as they’ll get very close to you to try and get food. They almost pecked my daughter, which to me was hilarious 😆 Make sure you also go to the inside museum portion as some of the rock architecture inside is very beautiful and a lot of it is informative. Great castle!

A long steep walk, but great views. Don’t think you will see an intact castle - this is ruins only. Entry is €10 for an adult (€5 18-25) My tip is to buy your ticket online to skip the ticket queue (will cost you an admin fee of 60c) but the line today in no shade was down the street and said to be about an hour. With the online ticket, you show at the entrance and walk straight in. Is it worth the €10? In my opinion, no. The €5 I would’ve been happier. Great views but not a lot of signage or information.

I loved the Castelo de S. Jorge. It definitely has some of the best views in Lisbon. I was fortunate when I went it was not busy at all. Getting to the highest points can be challenging but I had a sense of accomplishment since I’m not a fan of heights. Exploring the walls of the castle itself and the views were definitely the highlights for me.

Really enjoyed the visit there. As a person under 25 it wasn't too expensive at 5€ and exploring the castle was definitely interesting. The view over the city is also great from the castle's viewpoint. I'd definitely recommend investing the money and walking around the castle area for a bit. The stairs are quite exhausting to walk though, as the steps are very narrow and tall.

Amazing view over Lisbon. You have to pay 5 - 10 Euro for entering the castle to get to that viewpoint but it’s definitely worth it. Besides this amazing view you get to see some peacocks walking around in that area. Little advise though if you walked a lot already, take a cheap Uber to get closer to the castle. It’s a big incline.

Magnificent views. I enjoyed it a lot but I didn't like the too many stairways. It's on s very high hill which requires hiking if you're going up by foot. You can go to a near point by bus, mini bus or toktok. So far it's the highest price for ticket I've paid in Portugal but it's worth it. You can also pay more and have a private guide ( the charges for a guide are per person not per group). A small tip you need to be careful around peacocks and the tree where they're nesting.

If you visit Lisbon, I definitely recommend visiting this castle. Although there is nothing really interesting in the castle, you can just walk around the walls. What is really beautiful about this place is the view of the city and a nice park with peacocks. I recommend buying a ticket online and you don't have to stand in line

This castle stands majestically above central Lisbon. This rich and extensive history is captured within the castle. With only €10 entrance fee, you can visit the entire castle. There are amazing views over the city. I think this is the highest point in Lisbon. I can see the bridge & the famous statue. The staircase going down to the city at the other side is quite scary. I don't dare to try though. Worth visiting this castle for period 1 hour. Don't miss it!

Lisbon's Sao Jorge Castle is a perfect place to relax. At the entrance to it was an imposing statue of King Afonso Henriques. Set on a rock, the castle has a 360 ° view over the city, reminiscent of the original purpose of the castle. Today the gardens in the castle courtyard host a restaurant, an exhibition on the history of Lisbon and many birds: peacocks, geese and ducks. The price is low and I recommend it with confidence!

A beautiful castle atop Lisbon, still in incredible condition. It has incredible views over the city and is well worth the steep walk up. I think it cost €10 to get in and there is even a little wine bar overlooking the city to sink some Vinho Verde as you admire the scenery. Definitely worth a visit!

The castle views are epic at every angle. 10 euro General admission, and 2.50 euro for a guided your which is worth every penny. You will find little restaurants, shops, and other places to quench your thirst inside the castle grounds and on neighboring streets. I recommend taking public transport or taxi to the castle. Then, walk back into town. Otherwise, the hills, steps, and steep inclines will wear you out before reaching the castle. Enjoy

Fantastic place. Do walk from city center. Stunning streets and houses. View from the castle is fabulous and you get to see a lot of peacocks casuals walking through the castle. Worth to visit for the view, the contents can be a bit lacking though. However there is a short exhibit detailing the castle’s history. The view alone makes it worth 5 stars. Its also accessible by bus 732 from the city, or tram route 28, although the latter requires a short walk..

There's 2 free elevators to go to this castle. One look like an office building and the other one is inside a super market. We went around noon time and bought the skip the line ticket 15 euro/person to skip the line. The line is actually not as bad as Jerónimos Monastery, but because we had a reservation at a 2 stars Michelin restaurant "Alma" so we have to skip the line. The castle is at the top of the mountain, so we get to have many great photos look down from above. Very gorgeous castle, and I am so thankful for the 2 free elevators.

But this is also a historical monument. Before that it is quiet, you can walk along the walls of the fort, there are very cozy places. Went here in the evening and it was really nice and quiet. Temperature checks on arrival and excellent queuing system. The castle grounds were very well set out with a one way system in place. Lovely terrace overlooking the city. There are couple of tables and chairs as you go in on the left hand side where you can get refreshments and a bite to eat. Lots of steps but all worth it to get the best views over Lisbon. Lots of great photo opportunity. Lots of peacocks, don't miss out on the albino peacock :)

My family and I loved this place. Wonderful views of the city and a nice place to relax and enjoy and a snack and a drink. The castle itself was fun to explore. I would like to see some restoration. Perhaps they could recreate the wooden structures that would have existed within the castle.

Absolutely magnificent from the outside. I would have gone in if I had my wallet but it was in the cruise ship. The building is absolutely huge and the details were grand. I’m not sure about charging people to go into a church but it is called a castle.

This is actually where the city was in the beginning. It is a well preserved castle with lots of surroundings to explore. You can walk near the walls, get on top of them, have a nice view. This is a good place to sightsee the panorama of the city. It has a a permanent exhibition where you can find great details about the city's history. Tip: buy online tickets to avoid the great line.

We decided to visit the castle in the evening, so that we could get a glimpse of the sunset. It was worth it, even tough 15 Euros entrance fee is a bit much. In the castle, you are more or less free to go wherever you like. We went along the walls to see if we could get some good view - which we did! There are many spots in Lisboa worth visiting, and this is one of them!

Castle of St. Jorger is definitely my favorite location in Lisbon, it is the best place for you to have the panoramic view of the entire city and enjoy the most beautiful sunset! Come like 1-2 hours before then closing time, and go up to the rampart when the sun is about to set, and then you will see the gorgeous view in my pictures:)

My whole family loved this place. It's in the heart of Lisbon so it is easy to reach. The castle grounds are fairly large and there is plenty to explore. There are many peacocks wandering the area, which my kids loved. There was even a fenced off area where baby birds resided. As for the castle itself, it was impressive. The views of Lisbon are fantastic, as the castle is at the top of one of the many hills in Lisbon. It is well maintained and there is also a small indoor exhibit if you care to read and learn some history. Included in the grounds is a small archeological site, though it is roped off and only accessible through guided tours throughout the day, which we did not do. There is plenty of shade and places to sit in the grounds so bring some snacks if you need a break from climbing all the hills and stairs. Bathrooms are available and quite clean. Kids 12 and under are free, and adults are 15 Euro. Purchase tickets (even for the kids so they can gain entry) ahead of time online if you know you're going so you can bypass the line. Otherwise, go early early so you don't have to wait in line too long. My family spent most of the morning there, though you could easily keep your visit to 2 hours or less. Well worth the time and money for us.

If you want to get the best 360* view of the capital, river and bridges; this is it. Thank god for bus/tram option as it takes you all the way (99%) to the top and afterwards the decent isn’t bad ( unless you suffer some knee issue - then use public transport again ) 15€ is the entry fee which in my opinion is bit steep but if you can/want it’s also a great spot to have a lunch ( your own lunch ) as there are plenty of seating and tables of stones in shade scattered around. Also heaps of peacocks around but none of the males have full tail feathers which could be due to stress ( really didn’t look stressed) or just due to lack of competition among them.

The only reason I’m giving 4 stars it’s because I think the tickets are too expensive for what you get! It’s mainly a castle where you can walk through the ruins there isn’t much information about its history , unless you pay 4€ more for a guide. The ticket was already 15€ . The castle visits are open until 22:00 but the gift shop closes much earlier. It’s a nice place to visit regardless and I think it’s a must visit , but for 15€ per person they should consider investing a little in making it better. They have a little museum that is interesting. One of the toilets I visited was definitely not an easy access one. Hopefully they have another one a bit more easy to access! Also for visitors with reduced mobility it will be very challenging to visit!

If you like exploring castles, then although most of the castle is in ruins, nonetheless there is enough remaining to climb and investigate. Not for the physically impaired as the castle steps are often quite narrow and somewhat precarious, and younger children may need to be supervised in places. However, it is great to be left free to ramble over a whole castle and imagine how it would have been in the past, defending the ramparts. We downloaded the audio which was worth the additional cost if you want to learn about the history.

A great place to see amazing views across Lisbon and the area surrounding the castle has lovely shops and restaurants. There isn't much to see or do inside the castle so I would save your money, take in the free views and have a cocktail or coffee in one of the surrounding cafés

Buy your tickets online and avoid the lineup! Then walk straight in! This is definitely a must see attraction when you come to Lisbon. You can get a bus or ride share to near the base but still involves walking, and the castle itself has some steep stairs and uneven ground. Some fantastic views of the city and harbour, great place to relax in the shade and read a book.

A beautiful experience. Fascinating history. Stunning views too. Entry fee is a little steep at 15 euros. I would’ve thought somewhere around 8-10 would’ve been a better match. That said, it’s defo something to do if you’re a tourist visiting the city of Lisbon. Tip; get there early to avoid the ticket office queues!

It seems that we were fortunate enough to have a wonderful experience! The sky was a breathtaking blue, without a single cloud, and the temperature was just perfect - not too hot or cold. We were captivated by the sight of blue peacocks perched in the trees, the stunning rock castle walls, and the magnificent, breathtaking views in every direction. The service we received in the gift shop, museum, and every other area was exceptional, and the coffee shop deserves special mention for their delicious meat croquettes and vegetable soup.

Visited here end of February on a Tuesday afternoon (3pm) - moorish style castle providing great views of the city. You must for to the “event ticket seller” location on google maps to enter the area; & Although nice to see, it was one of the more expensive places we visited at 15€ per person. There was also a line to get in to buy tickets but once inside, due to the large grounds, it didn’t seem too busy. Walking the castle walls, seeing the peacocks, city views, trees on the grounds and old ruins makes this place special. The history is extensive, with some parts dating to the 2nd century BC, and having been a fortification for many occupations, later being a military barracks and a royal palace. Theres walk ways and paths everywhere; Very fun place to explore!

Best view you can get of west Lisbon and ability to climb towers. Went here for sunset and many others were doing the same thing. Lot of open space and old ruins with information in Portuguese and English. The museum space is a little lackluster, so I recommend it for walking and checking out scenery. Make sure you have time to go up the towers and walk around like a guard. If you're there in the evening, make sure you wait for the beautiful sunset. Though they close 1 hour before the park closes. There's a bar inside that closes at 7 or 7:30pm. Staff was nice, overall worth it to climb up.

The medieval castle is located toward the northwest corner of the citadel, at its highest point. Hypothetically, during a siege, if attackers managed to enter the citadel, the castle was the last stronghold, the last place in which to take refuge. It is rectangular, with ten towers. A wall with a tower and a connecting door divide the castle courtyard into halves. A series of stairways allow visitors to reach the walkway atop the wall and the towers, from which magnificent views of Lisbon can be enjoyed.

If you are not really into history it's not a place where you should go. It's enough to watch it from the outside. You get much better panoramic views in the town for free. 10 Euro entry fee it definitely to high and not worth it. But make your own try.

  • 3/5 Andrew C. 3 years ago on Google
The castle was interesting but there is not much history explained here (like boards or exposition information). The view is awesome and there are some coffee bike Shops to get something to drink. Restrooms are also available and that's about it. Be aware that for 1 person the price is 10€ which is a bit expensive taken in consideration that you go there to enjoy the view and that's it (you don't need more than 30-40 min max.)

São Jorge Castle (Portuguese: Castelo de São Jorge; Portuguese pronunciation: [kɐʃˈtɛlu dɨ sɐ̃w̃ ˈʒɔɾʒ(ɨ)]; English: Saint George Castle) is a historic castle in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, located in the freguesia of Santa Maria Maior. Human occupation of the castle hill dates to at least the 8th century BC while the first fortifications built date from the 1st century BC. The hill on which São Jorge Castle stands has played an important part in the history of Lisbon, having served as the location of fortifications occupied successively by Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, and Moors, before its conquest by the Portuguese in the 1147 Siege of Lisbon. Since the 12th century, the castle has variously served as a royal palace, a military barracks, home of the Torre do Tombo National Archive, and now as a national monument and museum.

It is mainly an outdoor museum, 1-2h just to visit. You have some nice garden to walkthrough and also some great city views. You’ll find inside a restaurant and also some beverages/ice kiosks.

For 10 Euros you can wander the grounds, see the museum, and chase the peacocks. This castle is a wonderful view point and experience, however keep in mind it's a replica of a smaller version of the one lost in the 1755 earthquake. The gift shop is tiny and the cafe was closed. Overall, a pleasant experience.

Fantastic views of Lisbon and there's lots to explore within the grounds, including spotting the resident peacocks. It would have been be nice to have more information about particular points of history connected with the buildings that make up the castle as otherwise you are left to explore without much direction. The Moorish settlement was unfortunately closed when we went. It is well worth the trip.

An interesting site in the heart of Lisbon. I thought the under 26 price of €5 was reasonable, but there’s not that much to see and so €10 is overpriced in my opinion. It was however nice to walk around the ruins and the view points were stunning. The peacocks roaming around the site were also beautiful. There could also have been more information about the history of the site. All the toilets were out of order when I visited and so come with an empty bladder.

  • 5/5 Paul S. 1 year ago on Google
Wonderful castle complex, marking the spot of the first settlement around Lisbon which grew into its administrative and military centre. Lots to see and do but the highlights are it having the best views over the city and the water. A great place to watch the sun go down from and the cruise ships depart from. There's also a large colony of peacocks which are beautiful and entertaining. My advice is NOT to try and walk up the hill, but rather catch the bus that runs up the hill for at the time of writing €1.65 and take just a few minutes. Tickets can be bought at the gate but there's a separate queue for those who have bought in advance or online. In my opinion if you are time limited, this is the best of the tourist locations to visit for a day out.

Visited with a tour which made it more meaningful to better understand the construction and history of Portugal. Definitely worth a visit as you can go to the top at various viewpoints to lookout. There were plenty of bathrooms and some food vendors as well.

Beautiful castle with many parts of the castle in good conditions. The outer wall and inner castle are mostly intact. The inner castle you can climb and walk around on top of it. The view from the castle is amazing because you look over the old city of Lisbon. The castle also has a museum of the archeological findings around the castle. Additionally, there is an archaeological site next to the castle. Overall, worth the visit. The entrance to the castle is 15 euro per person. There is also a place to buy drinks around the castle.

I had an absolutely fantastic time visiting Sao Jorge Castle in Lisbon! It was an enchanting experience from start to finish. The castle is impressively large, offering an array of fascinating details that kept me captivated throughout my visit. The highlight, without a doubt, was the "mirador" where I was treated to an awe-inspiring view of the entire city and a breathtaking sunset. It was a truly magical moment that left me in awe of Lisbon's beauty. I spent a good 2 to 4 hours exploring the castle and its surroundings, and every moment was worth it. The historical significance of the place, coupled with its picturesque charm, made it a memorable journey into the past..

Visiting Castelo de São Jorge was like stepping into a time capsule of Lisbon's rich history. The ancient castle atop the hill offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the Tagus River. Exploring the castle's ruins, walking along the sturdy walls, and getting lost in its charming gardens was an immersive experience. The castle's exhibits and displays provided fascinating insights into Lisbon's past, and the peacocks wandering the grounds added a touch of enchantment. It's a must-visit destination that allows you to not only admire the castle itself but also to connect with the essence of this vibrant city.

Impressive view of Lisbon every way you look. Interesting history of the Castle but I will admit a little underwhelming. However when you exit there is an open cathedral that is untouched and very original a was more impressed with it than the castle. You go to the castle for the view. The Alfama district around the castle is cute and worth the walk.

For us the best touristic attraction in Lisboa! Starting a bit pricey (10€ regular / 5€ students) the visit is alone for the view from the castle on Lisboa, from all different perspectives, definitely worth it. You can climb on the old castle walls and will enjoy the best views you probably can have on the city. The volume of other visitors was ok and not too stressful. The waiting line went also quite fast compared to other attractions in other touristic cities. Besides, the cultural information in the museum and the other smaller attractions inside didn’t play a huge role.

Not worth it if you only come for views: you've got plenty of other places around (for free and without queues). There are some exhibits though for history-lovers. The gem of the whole place are the gracious peacocks roaming freely around the part.

Especially a good deal for young people (<25yrs), who get 50% off the entry fee. The atmosphere of the castle behind is awesome as well, even though you shouldnt expect too much historical information. Some is there, just not up to the standards of other museums in Lisbon.

Very nice view of the city, and an impressive visit of the castle. It is totally worth the 15€ ticket. If you are lucky enough to be there for the sunset, the view is magical and ends a day well.

Wonderful view on Lisbon from St. George Castle. It is also very nice to walk on the ancient defend walls but mind your steps! The castle is somewhat busy in August so book your tickets in advance otherwise you will burn away in the sun in the long queue. Great fun though and a must see when visiting Lisbon.

Great experience with kids (5&7yo), very well maintained and a lot to learn. Guide tour is only 4€ and the archeological tour is free. Amazing view of the city. Better to come in the morning to enjoy the peaceful of the place and shady parts

Great views of the city and a monument worthwhile seeing during your stay in Lisbon. The walk up from the center is fairly steep, but you pass through interesting local life on the way. I will definitely go back at the next opportunity I have.

Very beautiful views on Lisbon from above. Just make sure to purchase tickets online in advance to avoid waiting in line.

Castello sao Jorge is a must see. Don't be put off by the entrance queue it moves fast and we were in within 20 minutes. The views are amazing and it is great fun to climb around the ramparts for even better views.

We took a tuktuk going here since our hotel is so close to Castelo De Jorge. We love the view, wait time wasn’t bad we got there when they just opened. It’s pretty cool there was tons of peacocks. I recommend to walk and explore around the area if you can. We saw tons of cute alleys it was pretty cool experience.

My partner and I went to St George Castle last October 24,2023. It has a spectacular view of the city to 360 degrees. The Viewpoint is located outside of the castle's fort; while still within the walls that surround it, parallel to Rua Costa do Castelo. From there, you can see scenic sunsets, Alfama, Plaza do Comercio, Tajo River, Rossio Square, etc.

I stayed close to this place so decided to check it out. Good view of the city. 15 euro entrance, a lil expensive but you don't have much of a choice. You can buy drinks there while you enjoy your sunset. I think I spent like 21 for 2 Aperol Spritz + 2 beers. That was reasonable. Didn't venture inside the museums but you can get a good look at the castle from the inside.

All I can remember about this place is the climb there at about 50° angle no joke and the most expensive entrance of the whole trip at 15€. Is it worth it? YES, I would say and the perimeter of the castle is pretty huge and you can easily spend >2hrs there. Besides the amazing viewpoint, the way the castle is built is cool too.

A view into medieval Lisbon. Bring your imagination to picture the large castle in its glory. Still, a beautiful site, with gardens and breathtaking views of Lisbon.

Good place with lots of natural walk ways with good tram connectivity for reaching the place. Good area too with lots of restaurants & souvenir shops. You can spend a couple of hours here & half day along with other attractions in the nearby location. Will be good if u have a guide.

Very good castle located close to the city centre. Pros: 1. Very good views of the city 2. Very well constructed and maintained castle 3. The pathways are well planned - from one section to another Cons: 1. Uber is not allowed beyond a certain point - had to walk 400 m (steep slopes) to go to the uber point. Surprisingly, local taxis are allowed to come closer but no cabs present on Sunday morning.

We spent about an hour and a half here. The views were immaculate. The steps are a bit steep for those that are afraid of heights, but you can tread slowly. Overall a great experience and I recommend the visit!
