Santa Marta Lighthouse Museum

Historical landmark

👍👍 Pretty lighthouse in Cascais. For 3 Euro it's possible to enter the lighthouse and go upstairs to the top of it. There you can step onto the balcony, which goes around on all four sides. It's a great coastal view, that you shouldn't miss. People often mention lighthouse, view, Santa, visit, Marta, views, ocean,

Lovely lighthouse, with a little exhibition. It was free to go up. I don’t like heights so I don’t know why I went up 😆 but the view is nice for the people who can enjoy it without being glued to the wall shaking…

The Santa Marta Lighthouse is located on the ocean in Cascais, Portugal. It was built in 1868 and still serves navigators, warning them about dangerous places on the way. The lighthouse is 28 meters high and consists of a tower and a building attached to it for housing and work of the lighthouse staff. The history of the Santa Marta Lighthouse began in 1863, when the Portuguese government decided to build a lighthouse on this site. Work on the construction of the lighthouse began in 1865 and was completed in 1868. During its operation, the lighthouse was significantly modernized in 1926, and in 2002 it was automated. The Santa Marta Lighthouse has become a popular destination for tourists and photography enthusiasts due to its beautiful location on the ocean and unique design. Tourists can visit the lighthouse and climb to the top to enjoy stunning views of the surrounding countryside and the ocean. In addition, there is a small museum on the territory of the lighthouse, where you can learn more about the history of the lighthouse and its importance for navigation. There is also a restaurant in the lighthouse building where you can taste Portuguese cuisine and enjoy the ocean view.

Nice little view.. only 2€ to go up atm.. so ok price for a photo. Minimal signage about opening hours and some of the staff were incredibly rude to other guest which was very disappointing to see.

You can have some coffee and some desserts next to the lighterhouse - included some music on the lavatory and a view on the sea.

(Translated by Google) Santa Marta Lighthouse is open to visitors and has a bar area with a terrace. Not to be confused with the Casa Museu de Santa Marta, which is right next door but has a different entrance. To visit both sites, you have to pay entry, although they are cheap prices (2/3€ respectively).

charming coastal town in Portugal. The lighthouse was built in the late 19th century and has since become a popular attraction for visitors to the area. The lighthouse is situated on a hill overlooking the sea, providing visitors with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding coastline. The interior of the lighthouse has been beautifully restored, with exhibits detailing the history of the lighthouse and the important role it played in maritime navigation. Visitors can also climb to the top of the lighthouse for even more stunning views of the surrounding area. The climb to the top is relatively easy, with a series of steps leading up to the observation deck. Once at the top, visitors can take in panoramic views of the sea and the charming town of Cascais. In addition to the lighthouse itself, the surrounding area is also worth exploring. The nearby marina is home to several restaurants and cafes, where visitors can enjoy a meal while taking in the picturesque views of the ocean. Overall, the Santa Marta Lighthouse is a must-visit attraction for anyone traveling to Cascais. Its beautiful architecture, rich history, and stunning views make it a unique and memorable destination.

Parked at Estacionamento lot where it sits up the hill, directly between the Santa Maria lighthouse and surrounding sites to the north and a short walk past the fort to the beach and retail/restaurants below to the east. Great exercise/sightseeing sidewalk from the lighthouse, park, and other nearby sights all the way to the coast heading north. If you love walking cliff areas like the one's here, also head an hour up north to Peniche and then the attached Beleal Island for even better views that stretch to the Berlinga Islands...😉 🤙

You can’t come inside with pets (small dog). Even in cafe near lighthouse.

Nice little museum. It's free. You don't need more than 20 min. to finish the visit.

Unfortunately it was closed for renovation when we were there, so we could not go up. There was nothing written online. It's nice from the outside but not worth it if it's closed.

Mostly under renovation at the time of my visit but the section on the lenses used in lighthouses was still educational.

There's a mini museum about the lighthouse on the left at the entrance. The ocean and the marina view from the top is quite nice to see. Worth visiting.

(Translated by Google) Nice photo spot, the tower looked bigger from a distance than it actually was. There is no elevator, you have to walk up, but it is doable. It's worth it for the view. But it is very narrow at the top, it is rather difficult to walk past each other. We first walked straight to the tower, where a woman pointed out to us that we had to buy tickets beforehand. Admission is €1 for students and €2 for adults. I would recommend a visit, but it's not a must!
