Museum mit rauem Charme, in dem die über 100-jährige Geschichte deutlich spürbar ist. Wunderbare Ausstellung und Führung über das Offenbacher/Frankfurter Label Tsatsas. Beeindruckend der Kreativprozess mit Papier-Prototypen und die bisherigen Kooperationen, z.B. mit Dieter Rams.

Mal ein Museum der anderen Art & wirklich einen Besuch wert. Ich hab echt viel gelernt über Leder - vor allem auch aus wie vielen Tierarten Leder hergestellt wurde und wird. Manches glaubt man ja nicht! Am tollsten und auch informativsten war der „Lederfühlraum“, den man zum Schluss besuchen sollte. Das war das Highlight!! Zuerst sollte man sich die 3-4 Ausstellungsräume anschauen, die eine überschaubare Anzahl an Objekten enthalten. Weil es nicht so viele sind, kann man sich jedem einzelnen gut widmen und sich gut an sie erinnern. Denn sie werden unten im Lederfühlraum zu den einzelnen Lederarten noch mal angezeigt. Das Museum ist schon etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Punktabzug gibt es, weil die Ausstellungsräume und Objekte besser beleuchtet sein könnten. Zudem sind die Schilder zu den Objekten in Vitrinen auf dem Fußboden angebracht - nur was für Weitsichtige. Es stehen immer Nummern an den Schildern, die aber an den Objekten fehlen. Man muss sich das ganz schön selbst erarbeiten. Wäre auch prima ein paar mehr Infos zu den Objekten zu haben. Ein bisschen was steht an den Wänden ringsum. Mehr kann man in Begleitblättchen lesen - das muss man aber erstmal wissen. Leider kein leicht konsumierbares Museumserlebnis. Gerade in Zeiten der Inklusion könnte hier mal optimiert werden. Für Rollstuhlfahrer und Sehbehinderte stelle ich mir vieles unmachbar vor. Und das ist schon schade, denn das Museum ist inhaltlich toll. Für den Lederfühlraum kann man locker 1 Stunde einplanen. Insgesamt vllt. 2 Stunden. Die Sonderausstellung „Der Handschuh“ ist auch interessant. Das Museumspersonal war sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Es gibt auch eine kleine Cafeteria und eine kostenlose Garderobe. Für einen Ausflug mit Kindern würde ich mind. warten bis sie 14 Jahre alt sind.

The artifacts and collections on display are actually quite interesting, and their new prototype room is quite nice and modern. The collections of shoes from around the world is especially intriguing. However, the only word that comes to mind for the rest of the museum is creepy. The objects are not creepy, just how the exhibits are laid out. In each room, you have to turn on the lights yourself, and sometimes this means entering a room that is in complete darkness. I don't mind turning on additional lights to view objects (as I understand this better preserves them) but there should be some sort of general lighting in place so you're not constantly groping around in the dark for a light switch. Also, because they are timed, you can be looking at an exhibit, only to have the lights go out on you. Honestly, if this is fixed, and if some more information was added for non-German speakers, this museum could be a much better experience. I still think it's worth a visit, even with these issues.

Das Museum sieht von außen wirklich sehr groß aus. Die einzelnen Ausstellungsräume sind auch sehr groß, aber insgesamt finde ich gibt es viel zu wenig Exponate für die Größe des Museums. Die Turnschuhe von Joschka Fischer und Boxhandschuhe von Max Schmelling waren da schon die Highlighs. Ansonsten ist man trotz der Größe schnell durch. Toll dass man alle möglichen Leder anfassen kann. Auch das Personal war sehr nett.

Ein tolles Museum mit wirklich faszinierenden Exponaten. Alle Exponate sind Originale. Immer wieder einen Besuch wert. Wir waren mit der Hortgruppe da. Die Führung und der anschließende Werkstattbesuch bei dem wir selber etwas aus Leder fertigen durften waren wirklich sehr schön. Die Führung ist super toll organisiert und war ein großer Spaß für die Kinder. Es war interaktiv gestaltet und die Kids haben viel gelernt und faszinierendes gesehen. Absolut zu empfehlen.

The one and only museum I've ever visited in Germany....

Mein Sohn hat dort eine Sommerwerktatt besucht. Auch das jüngere Geschwisterkind durfte mit machen. Es wurden verschiedene Lederarten gezeigt und es durfte auch angefasst und sogar mit ihnen gebastelt werden. Krokodilleder, Rochenleder, Schlangenleder, Rinderleder, Schafsleder. Den Kindern hat es Spaß gemacht. Es gibt öfters kostenlose Werkstätten was ich wirklich toll finde! Die Dame war sehr nett zu den Kindern. Am zweiten Tag durfte ich auch eine Weile dabei bleiben weil unsere Maus nicht alleine sein wollte was ich auch sehr nett fand. Die Kinder durften schneiden Löcher Stanzen kleben bemalen waren sehr kreativ! Ich würde das auch jedenfall wieder machen.

Genuinely impressed. I didn’t know a lot about leather. Small museum but worth the visit. I wish they had more English signage. They give you a pamphlet with some English explanations but a lot of things are not covered. My favorite was the ability to touch the different types of leather.

An absolutely fantastic little museum, providing a hands-on (for some of it) look at the history, types, and various styles and embellishments of leather. You can't go wrong taking a visit here.

Ende der 1970er Jahre besuchte ich mit der Schule das Deutsche Ledermuseum in Offenbach und war von den dort ausgestellten Schuhen recht begeistert. Unlängst besuchte ich die Internetseite des Museums und wurde nun dazu aufgefordert, eine Rezension zu schreiben.

Ausstellungsobjekte hat es nicht so viele interessante wie in anderen Museen dieser Größe, jedoch doch genug, dass sich ein Besuch lohnt. Es gibt einen sehr schönen Bereich mit diversen Ledern zum Anfassen welcher technologisch auch sehr modern umgesetzt ist. Bei einem Workshop durften wir dann noch unsere eigene Lederkreation basteln und wurden dabei herzlich und professionell Unzerstützt.

Interesting museum, but no english anywhere! And there is nothing about the leather manufacturing process itself. Rather small amount of random leather things to see there...

Great museum, much better than expected! The ground floor section where you can touch all kinds of leather is especially interesting, but also the (admittedly very old) exhibitions upstairs are quite exceptional!

Amazing and unique museum. My favorite part was the interactive area on the first floor where you can touch all kinds of different leathers and leather treatments. 2nd and 3rd floors have special exhibits and leather items from around the world. A much bigger and diverse collection than you might expect. My wife and I spent 2.5 hours here. Added bonus, they have brochures and handouts in English, which is especially helpful for those of us who are not fluent in German. Definitely recommend.

The museum is OK, but only if you like leather or history. Good tour though.

Absolute must for anyone interested in design. Leather samples room was amazing and interactive, and entire museum is extraordinary. Staff are very professional and polite.

It takes some effort to get here from the city center of Frankfurt, and eventhough I find the themes of the current exhibitions interesting, I was disappointed at the very old fashioned main permanent exhibition, which needs refreshing urgently. This museum has many treasures, but the main permanent exhibition, which is most of what you get to view, is archaic overcrowded and not very communicative, against the fact that it is rich is sources and has pretty amazing items. The current exhibitions are much better presented and curated, but here too there's an overload on one side (the 100 years exhibition) and lack of substance on other (bags exhibition). I was impressed with the tutoring aspect of the leather computerized exhibition, where u can touch various raw leathers and get info about them - probably fun with children. All in all - has some value points, but not really worth too much effort, if you are not anyway around or its on.your way

Surprisingly exciting. Offenbach was once the heart of textil production in Germany 🇩🇪 In the museum you’ll find the expertise in leather like Napoleons Briefcase or the Sneaker of Joschka Fischer he once has worn when sworn in German Parlament.

Really disappointed after the renovation or revamp. All the interesting old charm is gone - no Indonesian shadow puppets, tools and clothes of Eskimos, rooms of native Indian displays...and the elephant head is gone. Note sure if it is all p.c.now but disappointing really.
