(Wedding Review) Such a beautiful venue, but everything that could go wrong with my wedding did go wrong. We had been changed through 3 different wedding coordinators by the time my wedding day came around, there was horrible communication, and so many things went wrong on the day of the wedding. Our seating chart that we agreed upon was not followed, so there were not enough seats at each table, the items we requested for our ceremony were not placed there and we had to work to find replacements last minute, and the bar staff were extremely rude. My family was setting up our cocktail hour and not only did they not set up the extra seating, but they also told my mother that the games she was setting up for our cocktail hour were worthless and that she shouldn't put them out. In addition, there was not even enough supplies for our specialty cocktails we ordered. Many of our vendors even commented on the disorganization of the venue staff. We were supposed to be assigned a day of coordinator, but we never once saw her on the wedding day. They didn’t even put out the wine glasses or cake cutting knife they stated that they would provide. Communication between my vendors and the staff at Oglebay was horrendous, and we were unable to get ahold of anyone about final costs of the wedding until the week of, so we were scrambling to pay everything off. They include tons of hidden fees and not upfront about costs. Unless you are going through their catering and spending $10,000+, don't expect them to pay your wedding any mind. They created so much unnecessary stress for an already stressful day.

Great cost benefit if you’re looking for a resort for a family trip. Oglebay turned out to be an amazing experience for our mini vacation with our children with plenty of options surround the whole facility: Good Zoo, Splash Park, pedals at the lake, lovely walks in the gardens. A few things to say here: - our stay was from Sunday to Tuesday, which a few restaurant options were closed during that time. - although they advertise many food options, beware that the menus lack in food diversity specially for gluten free dietary restrictions. - some attractions are lacking maintenance, which in part seems comprehensive given to its humongous structure. This review could have been easily a four stars, but overall, we were so impressed by the landscape and especially by the staff dealing with customers upfront that it went up to five stars.

The Christmas light displays and activities were very well done and made for a nice family weekend getaway. We especially enjoyed making s'mores by the fire and drinking hot chocolate (spiked for the parents)! The lodge is nice, but in need of some updates, especially new carpets. The room had that "old hotel smell." Some might find the old time feel charming, but we would have preferred more modernized amenities. (A portion of the lodge is slated for renovations soon, so this may be a non-issue a year or two from now). The spacious indoor pool and hot tub were a favorite of my kiddos, as was the zoo and laser light show. All in all, a lovely weekend!

Oglebay is a lovely resort. It's in a beautiful setting in the hills of West Virginia. The rooms look like an up scale cabin and are clean and comfortable. They have two restaurants with a great a selection of tasty food. They have a zoo and two golf courses. Go on their website to see all they have to offer. I had the seafood bisque that was better than any bisque soup that I ever had.

My first impression was not a good one. At the check in desk, I told the woman I didn't know where my room was because I hadn't been there before. Her response was "I don't know where your room is either". Okay. When I asked her for directions, she told me it was "that way"...super helpful. She offered zero information and stared at me like I kicked her dog when I expected her to at least tell me I was checked in. I got lost looking for my chalet. The chalet was also super dated (not the end of the world) but the location was beautiful. We took the kids to the Good Zoo to see Santa (he was late). There was so much traffic; they need a better system to accommodate all of the people that come to see the lights. It took me over 30 minutes to drive one mile (no exaggeration). There is also extremely limited parking; we could not even park near our chalet which didn't work out well having two small children to carry. The gift shops at the zoo and the resort were amazing! Pricey but that's to be expected. We also waited over an hour longer than expected for take away pizzas; the bright side to this was that the hostesses were wonderful! This was definitely a one and done experience for my family.

Hotel offers a beautiful property and nice amenities. Pluses include the views and grounds, nice coffee shop in lobby and attentive staff in the bar/cafe. Breakfast room food cook/good, dining staff not well trained from greeting at the door through lacking service and attention at the tables. Hotel room generally nice, but refrigerator not working and some soiling here and there. Seems there may be progress, hope a tune up results in a five star lodging in the future.

Took a family trip to go skiing over winter break but the weather didn't cooperate. We really enjoyed the facilities and everyone was exceptionally nice and helpful. My only complaint was the bathroom situation in the west building. Our room was remodeled, but the bathroom door was just a set of sliding barn doors. We were sharing it as a family and you could see through the cracks directly into the bathroom. Additionally, they wouldn't stay closed. So we had to rig a lock on them to maintain any kind of privacy. That is something the staff and ownership should rethink. Otherwise, it was a great time.

We stayed from a Wednesday to a Sunday at the Bluet cabin. I have never been in the habit of checking a place for bed bugs. Maybe I should make this a habit in the future, but it has never been on my radar. The last morning we were there, after having stayed for several nights our friends who were staying two cabins away found a bed bug on one of their beds. This prompted us to search the 4 bedrooms at our cabin during which two of the four rooms were found to have bed bugs including my room and my kids room. We immediately called the operator where a woman told me they would do something urgent to take care of this and we never heard from them again during the next three hours while we were cleaning at the house. We started a very tedious packing process and then drove home early. We then spend the entire day cleaning everything we brought. The fact that two different cabins had bedbugs suggests this is probably a bigger issue than that. My room had a mattress protector on the bed but this had a huge hole so not too helpful. My kids room didn't have a mattress protector on. If we had at least heard back from the office I would feel a bit more charitable, but to claim that they are going to help and then ghost us is just ridiculous. We chased down a maintenance truck in the rain and he gave us some trash bags so we could wrap up some of our things. There were certainly parts of the resort we did enjoy, but not enough to overcome the pretty unpleasant end of our time there.

Great getaway resort. So much to do and see. The only problem was there's no refrigerator or microwave in the rooms. Great place for a challenging golf outing. The Pool was refreshing and relaxing if you can get a lounge chair. We will be back next year.

All ran smoothly and the staff were all exceptionally attentive and wen above and beyond. Sarah at family farm yard experience was super with very young children and Ford at the dining hall went out of his way to get kids seated, helping with napkins, coloring activity and placing everything on the table to help kids stay out of trouble. Phone reservations and servicing ran smoothly. I would prefer 2 queen size beds and a mini fridge in the room but overall we were happy.

Interior and rooms are very outdated and the Zoo is extremely overpriced. The land that it's on, is beautiful and the deer are everywhere and come up close to you. The exterior of the resort does not disappoint. The little gift shop has a lot of cute items, souvenirs, etc. Something for everyone in there. The store staff is very friendly and helpful.

A very nice resort to visit. It was decorated beautifully for Christmas and the drive through light displays were very well done, especially the new light display on the lake. I recommend Oglebay and if you are doing a group visit, Alecia will take great care of you. The rooms on the Byrd Wing are small with two regular double beds in them. The King and queen bed rooms are very nice and roomy. The Christmas dinner and show was very nice. It's worth a visit.

Great experience! They let us check in early (check in is at 4!) and were very sweet to us. Room was comfortable and had all expected amenities. We came back late to our room and were able to find parking close with no issues. My only complaint would be the parents who let their children use the hallway as a rowdy playground, but that’s certainly not the hotel’s fault!

So how do you highlight a location in West Virginia Hill country? Oglebay Resort shines out during the holidays (particularly Christmas) as a place to kick back, relax, and enjoy a slower pace. The highlight of the Christmas stay our family enjoyed was the Christmas Day brunch. Pricey but beautiful, mom gets the day off while the employees sacrifice to make it a thoroughly enjoyable experience. We shared a cottage, brought our dogs, and enjoyed while numerous deer fed in the yards outside our windows. The shopping is top-notch in the area, and I recommend Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church be included for worship and a welcoming experience!

Only there for The Festival of Lights. Traffic was thick, but it was a Saturday night. Took a while to make it to the entrance. The lights were fantastic! They had Christmas music booming, but I had Pink Floyd playing in my car. 30 dollar "donation" was asked of us, but you really don't have to donate. I had a wonderful female friend riding with me. Together, we both had a great time. I do recommend!

Beyond disappointed. The cleanliness of our room was appalling. There were no mattress protectors/covers, only 2 flat sheets.. laying in years of strangers sweat and other bodily fluids no no no. Then there were 3 spiders nests I wiped down from the crown molding above the beds. I even wiped the tooth paste splatters off the mirror and cleaned the urine off the toilet. Unacceptable given this holiday light package was over $500. We spent MONTHS getting so excited for this trip. I won’t lie my heart aches. Quality means so little these days. Oh and don’t even get me started on how thin the doors and walls were, we heard all the epic tantrums and drunken adults. AND to top it off the pool was too cold to use. I will say the brief encounters/calls made with front desk were nice and they were empathetic.

Food barely mediocre, unable to get a hair dryer in my room. Breakfast buffet food very dried out. However the entertainment with 4 very outstanding profession music/theater graduates was outstanding.

Love getting away in the beautiful scenery and getting up close with nature. Not pictured: the ducks that adorably waddled their way through the yard and a raccoon climbing his way down a drain pipe. Everything about the cabins is well kept relaxing! Cannot wait to plan our next trip!

Reviewers often mention that the furniture at Oglebay might be outdated, but I personally didn't find it to be a significant issue. The chairs I sat in were incredibly comfortable, and the bed provided a cozy and restful sleep. What truly set Oglebay apart was its charming old grand lodge ambiance, which made our stay truly extraordinary compared to the typical chain hotels we've visited before. The surrounding scenery was breathtaking, and the well-maintained gardens added to the overall enjoyment of our two-night stay, where we were attending a friend's wedding. Although an unexpected and severe summer storm knocked out the power for 12 hours on a Saturday night, from 8 am to 8 pm, the hotel's engineers handled the situation expertly by providing half power through a generator. While some may complain and seek refunds due to the inconvenience, I personally adopted a positive perspective. I had a wonderful time in this beautiful place, and despite the unfortunate timing of the storm, my mission of enjoying a pleasant stay was successfully accomplished

Great weekend golf resort. Staff is friendly and helpful. Buffet that was included was a great part of the package. The greens and courses were in great shape. Coach was gassing us all up when we were waiting to head out. The Arnold Palmer course was awesome! Our group of 40 will absolutely be back for another weekend next year.

My family has visited here many times over the years. We just visited last week and dropped 20k on lodging and activities. We go primarily for the pool since there are 30 of us and many ages. It is a great hangout spot. This year was very different. They had thousands of bees at and around the pool daily. I reported it to everyone in management and never even received return phone calls. That is not how you would run a 3 or 4 star resort facility.

Nice stay, friendly folks, not enough soaps (bad thing) but perhaps a supply chain issue.

Wonderful. Phenomenal cottages with amazing and ample space for all of us. Deck, to living rooms, spacious kitchens and bedrooms (15) each with their own bathrooms. Really enjoyed the lush vegetation, the deer and the hot tub (although it is in need of repairs of the jets). Will definitely return.

We reserved a room for a family get-together of about 15 people. Server was very nice, food had very good presentation and generous portions. Accomodating to our gluten-free member as well with a delicious GF margherita pizza. Nice venue!

We stayed in a rustic cabin in October. The cabin was immaculate and Caroline in housekeeping was amazing. We enjoyed every second here. The fireplace was the icing on the cake with a ton of wood to burn ready for us when we checked in. We will definitely be back next fall!!

Oglebay Resort makes for as close to perfect time away as you can get. It was already decked for the Christmas season. Beautiful. SERVICE: The service is above stellar. FOOD: The food in the restaurants is unbelievably good. The servers are very friendly. They, actually converse with you. They all have that 6th sense for what you need. The food presentation is beautiful. CLEANLINESS: Oglebay takes cleanliness and hospitality to a whole other level inside and outside. ACTIVITY: The things to do are enough for a good balance of active and restful. I love all their seating areas. LOCATION: super convenient 2-hour prox trip. There is nothing there to critic for change or improvement.

Definitely a quiet relaxing break away with beautiful scenery that are well kept. We stayed in a chalet room outside the lodge. It's nice that we could book it with a roll away mattress for our toddler. However, the room smelled bad and it didn't come standard with a microwave, we had to book and pay extra for that too.

We just went for dinner & to see their beautiful Christmas lights display on New Years Day. We had the buffet & the food was absolutely amazing & there was a lot to choose from. The $14 I spent on my chocolate martini was well worth it! Our waiter was attentive to our needs. They had hot chocolate set out in a gathering room so we took a cup with us while we drove through the lights! We made a stop in the gift shop & they have a little of everything. The hotel was decorated beautifully for Christmas. It's sad that they will be remodeling a lot of the hotel. I hope it doesn't lose it's rustic charm! Would definitely recommend going there!

We love coming to Oglebay. Kids have so much fun photographing all the lights

My place of work holds an annual retreat here. The grounds are beautiful and expansive. They have golf, museums, a zoo, horseback riding, and many trails. Trails go through the woods or through the manicured park area so they have a variety of difficulties. I usually love the catered buffets but this year was a little lacking in the wow factor. They are currently short staffed, so rooms sometimes are not ready until after the check in time. We stayed in the newly renovated west wing, which was great. Usually rooms smell sort of moldy, but this wing did not. They have a little gift shop and an ice cream shop near the welcome center. Deer are also very nonchalant about humans being near them.

If you want to see gorgeous Fall leaves and getaway to a relaxing and beautiful resort then Oglebay is the place for you. It’s perfect for anyone—the individual traveler, romantic couples getaway or bring the kids because there are many kid friendly activities for them to engage in. There are quite a few restaurants on the property. My first night I had the best bbq ever at Route 88 BBQ. There was a fire pit going and live music. I met so many fun people. There’s another outdoor restaurant with vibrant red umbrellas overlooking the grounds which I dined at. While at Oglebay I stayed in a lakeside room with a gas fireplace where directly in front of me the sun set as I sat on the balcony sipping a glass of wine. Life doesn’t get better than that. There’s a lake on the property where you can take out a swan paddle boat, which I did and loved, and kayaks. There are miles and miles of perfectly kept trails along the property where you’ll see deer 🦌 and hear birds happily chirping away. Head to Oglebay to reset and relax. You won’t be sorry that you did!!!

Although it was fall the Conservatory housed some of the most beautiful flowers I've ever seen! It even had an elevator to take you up to the second floor that offered even a more spectacular view. I enjoyed spending time in pure serenity. There were many photographers onsite photographing everything from weddings to senior portraits. Definitely a place to behold natural beauty!

for our wedding anniversary. We had an amazing time. Everything was beautiful. The holiday displays in the lodge made it feel like we were in a Hallmark Movie. We loved exploring the grounds and the live music in the evenings in the lodge. November is the perfect time to see the trees changing colors.. The first night we ate at Glassworks Grill it was great. The second night we were excited to try Ihlenfeld, what a disappointment! the restaurants are connected so not sure how it was so terrible. We payed way too much money for cold steaks and cold hard baked potatoes. They were not crowded and it took forever for our food to come. When it did we were sadly disappointed we went there for our anniversary dinner. Do not waste your money! We also enjoyed sitting at the Glassworks Bar in the evenings. There was a diverse crowd. Overall. we had an amazing time and highly recommend you staying at Oglebay. We plan to go back with our young children this

I am only reviewing the festival of lights portion. It has been a few years since my family has enjoyed these beautiful lights they put together every Christmas season. This year was the first year I was disappointed. It is nothing like it used to be 😔. We made our donation and started to drive through, when we realized there were hardly any lights. It was spread out so far along the road towards the golf course and some were down at the golf course. It felt very unorganized. I hope they decide to go back to how they used to do it before this setup.

What a beautiful place. We went there because we had a wedding on Friday, June the 10th and after the wedding we decided to stay there a little longer to experience the resort. And oh my goodness I'm so sad that we can't come here as often because it is amazing from the scenery to the rooms to the service is so luxurious and amazing. There's so many places to go and even if you don't go to all the attractions just walking around the resort is amazing day and night. Totally recommend anybody who lives around that area and once they find a good place to spend time

This was the location of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology priest conference. The staff made sure everything went very smoothly. The room was in very good condition. The food was excellent. The grounds were mowed and green. It is a very nice setting for a vacation or a conference like this. If you like golf, there is a golf course as well.

Beautiful resort. Cabins are big and comfortable. Views are excellent. Our cabin was very clean and reasonably priced. Quick and easy to get to any of the main lodges or golf courses. Will definitely be back.

Back roads to get there with deep drainage on sides of roads. Would not want to drive on these in bad weather. Beautiful once you get there with lots of things to do. Facility is wonderful. However we went in September and not many dinning options on the property. All being said I would go again.

My husband and I had a great golf trip at the resort. Every single staff member in the lodge and golf courses was very nice and friendly. We got the renovated room, and their breakfast buffet was great. The only downside in the lodge was our dinner at the Ihlenfeld Dining Room; our meals weren’t worth $150 for two, and the service was very slow. But, I had Google reviews about the restaurant before going there, so didn’t much expect. I will definitely visit the resort again and try another restaurant in the resort.

This was just a scenic trip but we had lunch at the lodge grill. The waitress was very pleasant and the steak and shrimp pizza was the "ultimate". The grounds were beautifully maintained, colorful and exquisite..

Amazing resort for family! Relaxed environment with gaming room, indoor pool and bunch of tabletop games available at the lobby. Resort facilities have a small lake where you can fish, a playground, a mini golf and even a Zoo. Definitely a place where kids can keep entertained. But service may be slow, we noticed the staff was a little overwhelmed during the Eastern Weekend.

Went for dinner and light display. Very pretty this time of year. Buffet dinner was ok but nothing extraordinary, and limited for a buffet at a resort. The price was a touch high for the offerings but one should assume that's for location. The menu was decent and food palatable. The pricing again wasn't really in par. Think dated ski lodge attempting 4 star service. Appetizers were overpriced but very good. Drinks were surprisingly in par with market price. All in all cost about $100 a person for a buffet once appetizers (nothing of the sort on the buffet), drinks, and tip were added. The gentleman attending our table was very attentive and friendly. The light display could benefit from a bit of directional signage as opposed to a map. If anyone from the venue reads this... a light display is done during the evening therefore having to turn on an interior vehicle light to read a map is not only disturbing to all the parties eyes in your vehicle but any of those around you. The venue could easily add a few arrow shaped lights into the display to keep people moving in the right direction. Just my two cents. Still very nice lights both for driving and walking through, while doing a bit of shopping.

I've seen places from Arizona to New York and quite a few places in between. This place is one of the most beautiful areas I've ever seen. Highly recommend seeing all the work they've put into their flowers beds and just general atmosphere.

Rooms were dated. No refrigerator in the room. Mold in the shower. Be prepared for a long walk to your room. Golf courses are very nice, pace of play kinda slow, coach is a real treat. Overall the experience wasn't terrible, not sure I would go back.

Make sure to use HotelTully.ᴄᴏm when booking any hotel. They compare countless booking websites and typically will have rooms a lot cheaper compared to others! Thank me later on! This hotel is one of my favorites in this area. I've been coming here for years. If you choose this place you for sure won't be disappointed. We stayed at The Wilson Lodge for a wedding and it was absolutely wonderful. The room was beautiful. The only complaint that I have is our fireplace didn't work so we told the front desk the night we checked in which was Friday and they said it would be fixed that night but it took until the next evening (sometime after we left the room for the wedding at 5 pm) for maintenance to come in. Other than that, our stay was wonderful! We will definitely be back!

This was just a day trip with our 10 and 12 year old grandsons. They had so much fun from rock climbing to ropes course to miniture golf and beyond. Well worth the cost of the wristband. We'll be back!

I've been visiting here for the last 6 years with a group of 16 golfers. The large cottages that sleep the entire group, are great. Service on the courses, with "coach"and others who I can't recall their names is very good. Service in the clubhouse with Rick, Kim and many others very good . Thanks Kim for dropping off that gift prior to our departure. Very nice of you. I certainly look forward to coming back next year.

Stayed over on a Saturday and Sunday night. Many family friendly activities available, many for free as a guest (outdoor pool and splash pad), but others require purchasing an activities wristband to enjoy (watersports, zoo, etc.). The Lakeside room we had at the Wilson Lodge was spacious, but a bit dated. We did not have a lake view, but enjoyed the patio outside of the rear of the room. We enjoyed walking around the gardens and the lake on the paved trails, as well as hiking behind the nature center in the evenings.
