(Translated by Google) In it, you can learn a large part of the history of the Basque Country, so deeply rooted in the world of fishing and that of wood Super interesting to see the methods that our ancestors used to work wood and even more to imagine our arrantzales making such long trips to Newfoundland in search of whales.

Incredible museum and active workshop! Informative displays with English French Spanish and Basque translations. Wonderful and accommodating staff. We rode our bikes and didn’t have a lock and we were allowed to stash them inside.

(Translated by Google) The small cultural and museum center of Albaola is a fantastic visit to learn the history of nautical construction, socio-cultural situation of the inhabitants of Pasaia, in moments before the discovery of America, with the whale hunting industry as the driving axis . It is very worth it! This is a project well worth supporting and helps recover forgotten knowledge on Ship building, whaling and Basque-Spanish maritime influence in the 16 that century. The Basques superior knowledge on boat building, and capturing white whales gave them an edge at a crucial point in history. Explanations and set up makes the visit worthwhile.

(Translated by Google) It is a nautical workshop with a very interesting visit about the Basque whalers. They are currently building a 16th century ship, the Nao San Juan. His explanation with the staff is extremely interesting. Recommended for € 10 or 5 if they exceed a number of people. Got the boat to the factory, this added to the trip. The exposition is very well laid out with explanatory boards in English although the information from the guide in the factory and by the San Juan is in Spanish. We can understand a little but it is definitely worth doing anyway.

(Translated by Google) It is really worth the visit, on a cultural level it is appreciated that the places where you vacation have such attractions. Beyond the human feat of the Basque whaling world, it would be appropriate to reinforce in the explanations the most controversial and obscure aspects of the industry, such as the practical extinction of the Cantabrian whales and the decisive contribution of said economic activity to the development and expansion of capitalism global in the Modern Age (although the latter will be positive or negative depending on the perspective of all which). Nothing is gained with the speeches of we were the most handsome and the smartest, the critical spirit when approaching the past does not subtract a iota of merit to the life of the whalers and the challenges they faced.

(Translated by Google) The visit to the shipyard where the replica of the San Juan whaler is built is very interesting, with the addition of access by boat. The explanation has been very good but we have missed more time to be able to see the facilities calmly or for the guide to tell things more calmly. We will definitely be back.
