My girlfriend and I are experienced travellers and have stayed in hostels around the world. As a couple travelling together we decided after a few days together that it would be fun to stay in a hostel and meet new people. Bedgasm seemed like the perfect place. My partner had frequented the bar with other travellers around 5 years ago. Back then it was well known as the place to be for backpackers Considering it was a one night stay we wanted somewhere we trusted, and had a fun atmosphere. Instead, we did not meet a single member of staff, the room (and the rest of the hostel) was absolutely filthy and despite attempts to contact the staff via Instagram (their request), we could not get an answer as to when the bar would be open. Turned out that it didn’t open at all on a Saturday night. If you had told me that the previous occupants of the room had made the bed, then I would have believed you. There were hairs everywhere and the sink was filthy. It fell way below the standards I would even expect from a ‘fun’ hostel, and I am certainly not picky. If there’s a buzz and a decent social side to a hostel I can overlook almost anything, but this ended up just being a filthy room with nothing else.

This is a great place for people traveling to Tokyo. Affordable accommodation, excellent facilities, amazing staff, clean and well maintained building. A lot of people drop by so you've got opportunity to meet new people. The bar is an amazing place to hangout and the bartenders are amazing! I made really nice friends here. Would recommend this place to everyone!

meh experience. the mattress is actually really nice, i was able to relax and rest properly every night. bed area in general was nice, had a plug and a locker thingy now for the bad parts. the front door was never locked, and neither were the doors of the rooms : literally everyone could have gotten in. i didn’t feel in danger because it is japan, but it’s crazy that it was so easy to get in. also, the common area was absolutely freezing all the time and the floor was often wet. shower was okay and had warm water. free towels but none told us about it and we just got them ourselves. no warm water in the sink overall, i think it’s worth it if you’re picky about mattresses because it does deserve its name. but if you don’t care about the bed and can sleep everywhere pls find someplace else!!

A pretty good stay! The building is old, but for the most part it’s cozy and clean. The only issues I encountered were rips in the bed sheets and lots of dust on the shelf in the bed area. But for the price I got it at, I could not complain! I liked it because it was away from the busy streets but also not far from the yamanote line (18 min walk).

Great bar and Great hostel ever Very clean and everything is organized A few years ago, there’re so many ppl from other country like me. It was great as well. but lately most customer is Japanese. If you like to have a conversation or spend time with them, it’s great time to visit. Grab a beer and have a nice chat with Japanese makes me feel great and good on my Japanese skill. Highly recommend

We really had a nice Stay. The Guys were helpful even if it means booking a bus ticket at 3:00 in the morning. It's small and cosy. We loved our Stay and will come again for sure 😊

This is what every hostel should be aiming to achieve. They have really spacious beds. Every bed has space for a bag, suitcase, or whatever you're bringing. Everyone gets their own locker at the bed with the keys. Lots of bathrooms, lots of showers. Everything is clean and is being cleaned regularly. They separate their trash. Everything about this place is good.

Places like this reminds me why I enjoy staying at Hostels. After a long day of traveling and site seeing everyone comes in as the bar opens and we all become friends and share stories. Can’t wait to stay again.

Stayed here when I was in Tokyo earlier this year in Feb. Staff members are super friendly and will help you out with things to do in the city and where to eat! It was a quiet in the hostel, but still fun and the bar on the first level is a cool place to chill. Its a relatively new hostel so all the facilities are super clean, and the beds are comfy.

Great service, help, and service here. I came here last minute. They are very helpful, they show you the area and the maps and explain all the cool places you can go. The whole place had aircon too which was great during the summer heat.

Awesome quiet street with amazing bakery nearby, seriously this place is incredible. Clean rooms, bathrooms, kitchen area. Very friendly staff with great tips of local attractions and what-to-do advice. Awesome bar downstairs where you will meet other travellers, or just chat with the owner/staff. 5/5 spot.

This is definitely one of the best hostels in the world. All 3 owners were so kind and helpful! There are a lot of great stores nearby and the station is only a 3 min walk away. They also have a bar in their Hostel and you can get a free drink each day (I love the one with the wasps and snake in it - a real snake, yes!). I strongly recommend booking it! see ya soon, David :-)

Not situated in a glittery posh area, but it's where you'll experience what "everyday" Tokyo is like. Older buildings and neighbourhoods straight from 70's flicks, full of character. I would use the term grungy to describe the type of neighbourhood but since this is Japan, it's grungy without the sketchiness. Walk around and explore the quieter side of Tokyo. Oh right, the staff is helpful, bed comfortable, and you get a free drink every night of your stay. Stay.

Awesome small hostel located between Ueno and Asakusa. Metro station within 5 min walk from the hostel. The staff is very helpful and welcoming. The bar area is chilled out with a nice selection of drinks. You can even bring your own! Overall great place with a nice backpacking vibe😊👌

  • 5/5 Devashri N. 4 years ago on Google
The rooms were clean and the beds were so comfortable. The free drink per night helped gather everyone and we met some really nice people. Also Asakusa is a really cool area!

The hostel was once amazing. The owner changed in December 2018! The new owner saves more money and the hostel feels more like a motel. I was 2 weeks in the hostel - Another hostel from the same owner (withB) is massively worse (not clean, cheap mattresses ...) + mattresses are good (as long as they are not replaced by the owner) + Staff is very friendly and happy to help - Staff has little idea of the surroundings or of great excursions. The previous owners were certainly more competent. + the location of the hostel is great. very quiet neighbourhood where you can also discover things. - the bar is hostel untypical. The lounge for drinking your own alcoholic drinks is rather uncomfortable. - no one informed me about the change of ownership! The current hostel should have at most a rating of 3.0 and not 4.9!

When I first booked my flight to Japan I was a bit worried that it might be difficult to meet people along the way. However, I couldn't have been more wrong. I stayed at this lovely place for over two weeks in total and have only good things to say. If you're looking for a cozy, yet social hostel experience this is the place to go. It wasn't uncommon for me to be deep into a conversation with people from various countries and walks of life, five minutes after checking in. And more often than not I'd end up exploring the city by day and night with fellow roommates. The bar is also lovely and I was lucky enough to have countless memorable conversations with the bartenders, who are really cool people. There's an amazing bakery around the corner and the Taito area in general, holds a special place in my heart. While it may not be the most modern or spacious hostel, I am super happy with my time at Bedgasm and all the amazing memories and friends I made there. I wouldn't prefer something else and I'll definitely return. Missing this place a lot so if you're looking for a similar experience consider giving this hostel a try. Arigato from Vienna :)

It sounds like this place used to be popular, but it’s honestly a poor experience now. There’s no bartender or drink deals as advertised, no locks or codes, and staff wasn’t even there when we showed up to check in. We just took our stuff to the room and hoped for the best. We stayed at 2 other hostels in Tokyo and had a much better experience - I’d avoid this unless it’s literally your last option

Tl;dr stay here its great! The hostel is absolutely fantastic. The beds are nice, the rooms are clean, there are facilities to make food and it's close to Iriya Station. Lots of hostels have this nowadays but what makes this hostel great is the staff. They are great to chat to and really make it a great atmosphere. They give you a free drink every night which brings people down so it's a very social hostel but even if it's quiet and there are no others down for their free drink you can chat to the staff. Overall probably the best hostel experience I've had so far. Highly recommend!

The hostel staff is very friendly and very helpful with what to do in Tokyo and how to get around. The hostel itself is very clean and the beds are as comfortable as they say! It's a very nice place to stay, and every night you get one free drink at the bar!

Don't bother staying anywhere else. This place is amazing, I really didn't want to leave. The beds, pillows and showers are amazing!!!! I loved the pillow so much I went to Nitori and bought one to take home. The bar is great, the staff is great and I met some really nice people along the way. Everything is spotless. Top notch place - will definitely come back one day. Be sure to go to the bakery and no broth ramen place down the street.

Good hostel close to the next subway station, to Asakusa stations it’s around 10 minute walk. Hostel is clean and the rooms are good, walls are a bit thin so you will hear everything. Showers are really good with shower soap and warm water.

I loved here for month for my travels and here’s my verdict: It’s perfect for people who want to stay long term and would like freedom Pros - Very trustworthy. Check in is easy as you’re given details to go straight into ur room - Great atmosphere but this is 50/50. Depends greatly on the people but the common area is great - Location is great for people visiting anything except shin/hara juku and Ikebukuro as they take 40 mins or so - They have great entertainment facilities for the football and gaming side of things. Cons (very minor) - Showers could be better maintained. Water wasn’t hot enough - If you needed assistance no one was around to help. Check in is self service once u get an email - Walk from Iriya is a bit far out but not too long. - The bar needs to be open as much as possible and the deals don’t make sense. Misleading offers when you book the hostel - lack of organised events or recommendations. Board needs improving

I will come back here when I have the opportunity to go to the central area of Hanoi. The only minus point is that the window is a bit small, but the service attitude of the staff is great !!! (Translated by Google) Evaluation was good, too, and the price was affordable, so I stayed overnight with curiosity. It looks like a hostel for foreign tourists when viewed from the outside, so it's hard to enter. But, a female sales clerk carefully served me. Those who were actually used seemed to be diverse regardless of their nationality. Female only dormitory? I used Because there is no partition, you have to pay attention to other customers. Of the seven people in the room, only Japanese was Japanese. There is a bar at the back of the entrance. Become free with one cup service! I would like to use it again if there is a business event nearby. Weird name, great hostel! Bedgasm is a very social hostel with a bar on the main floor. The staff are amazing at providing good places to eat and nearby tourist spots. The beds are actually very comfortable compared to the other hostels and guesthouses I've stayed in Japan so the hostel lives up to its name. I plan to stay here every time I visit to Japan.

I live nearby and have recommended this place to many friends who come to visit. I have drank at the bar which was a fun opportunity to talk to some other English and Spanish speakers (as well as other languages of course). I spent four nights at Hostel Bedgasm and can easily say that it is one of the best hostels I have stayed in to date. The staff were incredibly friendly, the rooms and other facilities were clean and comfortable, and everything was very reasonably priced. Iriya station and the Ueno district are only a short walk away making it very easy to reach the rest of Tokyo. Finally, the social events hosted by the hostel, in addition to the free nightly drink, cultivated a nice sense of community during our stay. I would highly recommend Hostel Bedgasm and will stay here again if I ever return to Tokyo.

👍 An Ueno Park favorite. Old fashioned Western style food (yōshoku 洋食) as made in Japan since exactly 150 years ago just following the Meiji Restoration of 1868 which officially opened Japan to the West. The beef stew is stick-to-your -ribs fare. Upstairs (right hand entrance with the two doormen)...
