(Translated by Google) Needless to say, it is a shrine that represents Japan. When I went to take a picture, was it closed because I took a detour on the way? Closed? As it got closer, I gave up shooting inside. If you visit too late, you will not be able to enter, so it may depend on the season, but I think it is better to visit before 15:00 at the latest.

This Meiji Shrine is a must-see! It's a gorgeous place to visit throughout the year. However, please remember to be respectful when you visit. This shrine is a sacred place of worship that is open to the public. So, while you enjoy the sightseeing, please be mindful that others may be actively praying around you.

Set in the midst of Tokyo's forest lies this serene shrine. Despite the bustling crowds, the atmosphere remains tranquil with pleasant weather. The shrine and its surroundings exude a simple yet stunning beauty. Nestled within the garden, there's a delightful restaurant and café, offering a peaceful escape to savor the beauty around. This is a place not to be overlooked.

First Shrine I visited while I was in Japan in Nov. It was a long walk in till you reach the Shrine. You can throw a coin and make a prayer at the main sanctuary (do note you can't take photos/videos of the main sanctuary where people pray as well as the souvenir stalls.) You can also purchase a hanging tablet at ¥500 & write your wishes or gratitude on it to hang near the tree. There's a divine tree that represents good relations of husband and wife. I happened to witness a wedding procession during my visit there, was eye-opening! On your way out, do try the savory Dango sold at Forest Terrace! It's delicious!

Stunning shrine and park area. It's amazing to walk from the busy streets into this park which really feels like entering the woods. The walkway is extremely broad and impressive, the Tori you walk by/through are enormous. You will also walk by a display of sake and wine barrels. There is also the opportunity to walk to a well for a small entrance fee. The scenery there is beautiful and really worth it. The shrine is really amazing and features impressive camphor trees.

Couldn’t capture its beauty as we came on a cloudy and rainy day. At 9am, the crowd still wasn’t there but are on the way in when we are leaving. Would come again when it’s sunnier but loved the tranquility. There is a whole park around the shrine for you to stroll and the trees are very tall.

Had the pleasure to visit here after early morning rain. The serenity of the forest walkway and the crisp air is indeed spiritual. The trees are all ancient and completely covers the sky over the walkway. The main temple has a few charm shops at around 1k yen each. Might be worth getting your single dog friend a charm to help break the single spell 😉 near the main temple, there’s also a spirit cleansing station where you can wash your hand and rinse mouth. In the main spirit tree, there’s also a wishing station where you may submit your wish with a small donation. There’s smoking area and washroom at the restaurant area. The “gates” are updated every 20 years. So you may see ones that are nice and polished while some bearing the end of life had moss growing on them.

Really enjoyed visiting Meiji Jingu while I was visiting Tokyo. I was fortunate enough to go a little bit after it had rained, so it was much less busy than it typically is. If you can go during less popular hours, it really helps to make this place even more of a serene little getaway within Tokyo. It's a great place for a nice walk, and if you're in Tokyo I would definitely recommend checking this place out.

Amazing temple that just has to be experienced to be believed. There are many places here to visit, of course the key attraction is the main temple. This is quite a walk, around 15-20 minutes but quite serene even with all the tourists and extremely accessible even in a wheelchair due to the well designed paths - that only break in a couple of places but are still possible with some effort to pass. As you head towards the temple there are many excursions in the giant gardens that split off the pathways along with various shops, museums. Whilst most things are free inside to do, there is a place to wash your face along with a shop just outside the main temple to purchase good luck/fortune/health amulets. You can also write messages/wishes on wooden boards in the courtyard of the main template. It’s incredible to believe this is right in the middle of busy Tokyo with an extremely busy shopping centre and subway station outside. Once inside it is tranquil and quiet, extremely spiritual. Overall if you want a quieter visit, do visit earlier in the morning. Most people are respectful here but there will of course always be those few tourists that treat this place like Disneyland who we did see during our visit. PS. The security hut can provide complimentary wheelchairs at request if available that are later returned. There is a culture of trust here, so there was no need to leave any id/card which was just great.

A beautiful shrine complex set in a forest/park. It was great to visit, very busy but there is so much space, that it doesn’t seem crowded at all. The stroll to get there is through wide gravel paths through the woods. It is a wonderful shrine to visit and explore and I highly recommend it to you

Friends took us for a visit here. A beautiful walk into the temple… about 10 minutes or so from main gate. Lots of activity going on including wedding photos in traditional dress. If in the area definitely make a stop by. It was also lovely to walk through the park it sits with in.

One of my favorite places to visit whenever I'm visiting Tokyo. A great way to get away from it all, although the number of people and tourists seem to increase every time I come here. The Meiji Jingu is really huge, and more like a park than a temple, with a walk from any entrance requiring at least 10 minutes to get to the temple proper. But that is part of the mystique and beauty of it, with the very large and very old trees offering a covered and serene view, and the Japanese crows calling to each other in the distance or possibly right overhead. Once at the temple, follow the posted instructions to keep quiet and respectful. Also, as taken from JAL's website: "When entering the grounds of a temple, it’s important not to step directly on the threshold of the main gate. Women should enter with their right foot first, while men enter with their left—a practice that only a few people remember." "If you wish to pray in the main hall of the temple, throw a few coins into the offering box. There is no suggested amount or specific lucky coin to consider. There is also no need to clap before you pray. Simply bow at a slight angle (some suggest 45 degrees as the ideal angle), put your hands together, and offer up your prayers. Bow once more when leaving the main hall and also as you exit the temple grounds." A visit is highly recommended, just be respectful when you do.

It is a shrine in the forest in the middle of Tokyo. The atmosphere is shady and the weather is good. People rushing around But everything looked quiet and peaceful. The shrine and surrounding area are beautiful in a simple way. Within the garden, there is a restaurant and cafe. Allowing you to sit and enjoy the peaceful beauty within. It's a place you shouldn't miss.

(Translated by Google) [There is a nice fortune of thick Japanese paper (^^)] The Omikuji here is not a hit, such as Daikichi, and you can get the words you need now! The Omikuji with flowers transferred to thick white Japanese paper is luxurious and very nice! If you read it back when you remember it, it will be a thankful word. The sound of gravel when walking to the precincts has a taste, and it is a valuable place away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Kiyomasa's well, which has been talked about in the past, can be entered for 500 yen, but since there are no plants in winter, it may be recommended to go for a walk in the green season if you pay the entrance fee. A serene and respectful place that no doubt a must when visiting Tokyo! Completely free and it is quite a walk from the entrance but with a nicely paved path and lots of green a long the way, even my summer walk did not feel long! There's a small Purification Etiquette to wash your hands before entering the main shrine, numerous clean restrooms along the way as well as a few restaurants so a small water bottle probably the only thing you need to bring. Also a small counter selling lucky charms that provide you with a meaning for each in Japanese & English. Will definitely come back!

A gorgeous shrine dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shōken. My visit was particularly interesting, as it happened to be raining at the time, which I think further enhanced it's beauty. I approached the shrine through a forested path, leading into the main courtyard, which is quite open and features a stone tile floor. The highlight of my visit was witnessing an entourage of the shrine's priests passing through the courtyard. While it's not permitted to take photos or videos of the priests, just being able to see them was a very exciting experience. I wholeheartedly recommend visiting if you're able to!

One of the most amazing place to visit in Japan after you have enough dose of high rise and technology oriented visits. Verdant forest like atmosphere, Japanese marvel in gardening, never ending trails, beautiful shrine, some really old trees to keep your senses at seventh level. You will forget you are in the world's most populated city and even a trace of modernization once in. Just opposite to the main gate is Takeshita Dori (Dori=street) where you can indulge into shopping. Shop till you drop place for youngsters and souvenir hunters.

My first visit to Meiji Jingu was in 1956 for the festival Shichi-go-san (七五三) (Japanese festival for 7 & 3 year old girls & 5 year old boys). My father was a Fulbright professor and our family lived in Amanuma/Ogikubo. My brother Michael and I were 4 & 5 years old.

One of the must visit garden + temple in Japan. The area was huge. There's a large gazebo in the middle of the area which basically is a temple. If you're lucky you can see a traditional wedding here. Please be respectful to the people who have a specific occasion in the area (praying, getting married, etc.)

Lovely, serene walk beneath the shade of the trees before you get to the shrine. A relief to get away from the bustle of the city and the lure of shopping. Hear your soul speak to you as you pace through the paths. The grounds and the buildings of the Shrine themselves are also beautiful. Beware of rule about photography, particularly where at the sites where devotees are worshipping. I would say not to be missed when you're in Tokyo.

A must-see when staying in Tokyo!! There's so much to explore and I encourage to soak in all the cultural aspects. In the summer, I suggest getting an early start to beat the heat (and sun) but to also beat the crowds. Especially with the tour groups, it quickly gets crowded. Bring cash with you if you want to purchase a votive tablet or any charms from the shrine. The iris garden, the well, and walking around the shrine grounds in general took about 2 hrs. The shrine is free to visit but the gardens did have a charge - cash only!

This is a really beautiful shrine. I appreciated the story behind it and walking up to it through the forest is so peaceful. There was also an impressive display of painted sake barrels and it was interesting to read about them. There were many people and the day was hot but the trees kept us cool. It's quite a magical place. When I learned that the trees were donated from all over Japan and now it's a natural forest I was really surprised. It's so beautiful and I'm thankful that such an incredible place is right here in Tokyo.

Need a smoking section here. Haha seriously 🤣 No smoking in any part of this entire park. So if you love smoking like me, make sure to smoke 10 cigarettes before you enter. Was a nice place and very clean. At least it's free to enter the Temple Area. Wasn't too impressed though. Don't know why, maybe it was just too simple for the amount of time it took me to walk in here. You can bring some cash to donate. Sorry I didn't. Just tried to pay my respects with a bow and a smile 😃 Some good spots to take pics. There's just so many tourists just like you and I all over this place that everyone else is just in your way. Maybe come earlier (before those dang tourist buses come) for better pics. I just randomly came here when I saw on Google Maps that I was right next to a major park. There's public restrooms and free as well.

This shrine is one of the biggest in Tokyo and covers quite a big area. Different than other similar shrines is the alley with sake barrels on one side of the alley and wine barrels on the other side, great for pictures. We were lucky to be there while a traditional Japanese wedding was taking place at the temple. Access is free so there is no reason not to visit it.

Very quaint and beautiful temple - there’s some fun stuff to do such as buying amulets and 抽签! We’re lucky enough to see a traditional wedding happening in the temple while we’re there, and there’s also a chrysanthemum exhibition for the emperor’s birthday. The surrounding garden is also spacious and beautiful. Worth a visit!

It is a very beautiful, expansive place to stroll, lots of dragonflies flying around the grasses as we walk by. We were lucky to see a traditional Japanese wedding ceremony in the main ceremonial hall or temple/shrine. The whole area has a solemn feeling to it. A must-see place whenever you happen to be in Tokyo.

The park is huge! It’s amazing that you could find such a big park in Tokyo. Visited on the weekday, there were some people but not too crowded. It would be super crowded on the first day of the month or January. I would definitely recommend to save 2-3 hours just chilling in the park. Soaking in the traditional Japanese architecture and temple. I would love to visit again :)

The sacred heart of the Meiji Jingu is of course the actual shrine, a beautiful wooden building complex in which the Meiji Emperor and his wife Empress Shoken are honored. Meiji Shrine is located in a evergreen forest that covers an area of 70 hectares (170 acres), and that consists of 120,000 trees of 365 different species. Two others highlights of the complex are the Otori and the Meiji Jingu Gyoen. The 12-meter-high Otori (the largest Myojin style gate in Japan) is made from a 1,500-year-old cypress from Tendai Mountain in Taiwan. The Meiji Jingu Gyoen, said to have been designed by the emperor himself for his wife, is famous for its "iris river" consisting of 80 to 100 species of irises. In June this garden is at its most beautiful, but also at its busiest.

A popular Shinto temple in the middle of a forest within Tokyo, a nice and quick stroll to the temple though during the summer the heat can be dangerous. During my visit there was a engagement photoshoot happening as well, so it was a nice additional views to Japanese traditional wedding style. The main gate is massive and visitors can purchase lucky charms for many occasions. There’s one for education, one for career, and even the lucky draw using sticks that you might see in Japanese movies or anime.

What an experience! I visited Japan for a holiday and my visit to Meiji Jingu has got to be my favourite day. It is an absolutely stunning place to visit and would would not even know how close you are to the city around you. When you arrive you walk through these beautiful wooden gates, the detail is out of this world. Whilst walking around we were greeted by a group of students who asked to show us around. They wanted to practice there English and it absolutely made our day! I was a similar age to these students as I was a student myself so we were able to shear so much information. The students all told me loads of information about the shrine that I would not have known otherwise. They taught me how to properly wash my hard respectfully and how to prey at the shrine in the correct manner. This is something I would have never done without them as I would never want to seem disrespectful. This really made the day the best experience ever. During our visit we were also lucky enough to witness a wedding at the shrine. This is a rare occasion and not often seen so it was an extremely lucky day. Once way had walked around the whole shrine it leads you back to the city so you can easily carry on with your day. We parted way with the student and it really was a pleasure to meet them all. I would highly recommend a visit here if you are ever in the area, and done be scared to ask or accept help. Everyone is so friendly and will try to help the best they can.

If you are on short stay in Tokyo, the visit to this temple is a must. Easily accessed from Harajuku Station (turn right on the main street and you will see the entrance behind the station), this temple offers a breath of fresh air and wonder in the busy city of Tokyo. You walk through a forest and the magnificent entrance to the temple awaits. If you are lucky, you may see some ceremony or even a traditional japanese wedding. This is a classical spot to come to pray for new years, but be aware of the long line of people or come as early in the morning as you can. There are some museum in the area worth checking out. After exploring the temples, walk up to Aoyama and have a fancy coffee or lunch.

Our first shrine visit in Japan and it was simply amazing. We wanted to avoid the crowds so we got there around 6:30 am. It was so quiet and peaceful, the quite opposite of all the noise in Tokyo. The shrine is beautiful and very well-preserved. We paid our respects and we got our fortune. We also wanted to get a wooden tablet to leave a prayer, however, the store was closed because it was so early in the morning, and there was no information on the website about the opening hours. Overall, a great experience. Totally recommended.

The Meiji Jingu was great. This is definitely worth trekking to. It's a little bit of a walk from the entrance gates, but nothing strenuous. We participated in the prayer rituals and even bought a number of charms. This is a beautiful place. But try and arrive early before the crowds force their way into your pics. Also, there is plenty to explore here, but because of our time constraints and reservations we weren't able to fully tour Meiji.

It’s a good free activity. The walk there can be long depending on which point you enter. It’s beautiful. The trees create a canopy over the road and provide lots of shade. The shrine itself, you’re not allowed to take pictures. But I took pictures of the surrounding areas. There’s a prayer box where you can write down your prayer. There’s also a station where you can buy charms for good luck, health, and more. When you’re done there’s a terrace where you can get some souvenirs or a bite to eat. Easily can make a 3-4 hour trip out of this.

The Meiji Shrine, located in Yoyogi Park, boasts the largest forested area in Tokyo, with 100,000 trees donated to by people from all over the country and numerous volunteers contributing their efforts to plant trees. I am quite impressed by the fact that Tokyo is a densely populated city with efficiently designed, minimalistic living spaces, yet it doesn't skimp on communal amenities like parks and green areas. I was happy with my last day in Japan with a leisurely, tranquil stroll in this refreshing forest.

Beautiful shrine in the middle of a city, but you’d never know it. It’s surrounded by essentially a forest. Large gravel roads with lots of maps lead you to the centre where the shrine is. Free to enter and we saw a gentleman striking a gong which happened at 2pm which was very cool to see.

It is a shrine located in a dense forest in the city center. It may be okay if you want to stroll through nature in the city center, but if you want to see the shrine, it is not a very good choice. If you want something to see, you'd better go to other Shrines. There are so many tourists that the role of a tourist destination is emerging rather than a religious facility. Of course, it can be said that this is not a shrine commonly visited by ordinary people, but rather a place with great historical symbolism.

Traditional architecture. Beautiful. I could see that it’s definitely not built for profits but from pure religious belief. The temple is so famous and is one of the MUST visit while you visit Tokyo. during our visit in Autumn there was not much crowd, mostly locals with their beautiful traditional customs. the Shrine is surrounded by lots of Forest so highly recommend for a morning walk. It has Meiji museum. Entry fee is 1000 yen. It has historical importance in Japan.

It’s definitely not your typical shrine in terms of size. However, and due to its location near Harajuku and being actually in Shibuya, even if it can get tiring exploring the whole complex, there are many people who come, foreigners and locals alike. I’ve come here for a total of 3 times in the last 8 years and the volume of people seem to be almost the same, whether it’s winter or spring. There are many parts of the shrine that’s either paid, or freely accessible but you cannot take photos of. Also, you’d definitely wait to take turns to pray at the main shrine, or get your stamp, or buy your food, or use the toilet…you get the picture.

The big one! This is a large complex of shrines, gates, memorials and other features set inside a forest which was specifically planted for it. Allow an hour for the central Shrine. Allow half a day to walk around and see it all. We were lucky to catch a Shinto wedding in progress. Car park, toilets, cafe, shop all present and correct.

This shrine was stunning and very peaceful. The area has a museum and gardens that can also be visited. These have to be paid for, though the shrine is free. Inside the shrine are two trees, known as the husband and wife trees. They are huge and quite wonderful. Photos are not allowed of the actual shrine or the amulet selling areas, but you can take pictures in the courtyard. The area of the shrine is large, and there is only one disability accessible toilet near the Sake display. It is a distance away from the actual shrine, so do not leave things too late. The path is gravel in areas, so it can be difficult for manual wheelchairs or for people with walking disabilities. It is possible to hire wheelchairs but there is a long walk to the hiring area. The actual shrine and the museum are accessible. The gardens are not accessible as there are steps throughout.

Stunning shrine with awesome gates out front and a glorious park to stroll through. If you’re like me and get overwhelmed by shopping or crowds, this is a great place to come to unwind, reflect, meditate and explore in a quiet area. The shrine was not busy when we went and the shrine and it’s surrounding parks are huge so people get spread out easily. They have a free stamp station you can add to your collection, remember to put in a small donation when you use it. They also have an interesting wall of sake and whiskey barrels that was very thought-provoking and visually stunning

Rich history and culture at this shrine. Very very popular tourist spot, so expect tons of people in your pictures or video. Still didn’t feel overcrowded where I couldn’t get around. It’s no wonder why it’s one of the top spots to see while in Tokyo. It’s a 10 minute walk through the park to get to the actual shrine, but worth crossing off the bucket list! I recommend coming at 5 am when the gates are just opening to feel serenity and peace at this site dedicated to Emperor Meiji. The shrine is well-kept and there is hardly anyone here at the crack of dawn. Feel the immersive silence. Also, for my runners, running is not allowed on the premises. I saw guards stop a man who tried to continue his run at the gate.

My New Year visit to Tokyo's Meiji Jingu was a serene and enriching experience. The shrine's atmosphere, amidst the lush and expansive forest, offered a peaceful retreat. Nearby, excellent restaurants provided a delightful dining experience. Meiji Jingu is a must-visit for its spiritual ambiance and cultural richness.

I love the outdoors so this was amazing. We went to see the art exhibit but we couldn't find all of the pieces, but it was great anyway. The walk was nice even in the heat and seeing the good fortune well for just ¥500 was beautiful. Just make sure to get a delicious ice cream cone and some charms on your way out. There was also a beautiful open grassy space that we relaxed in and they had vending machines nearby, just make sure to bring a blanket. This place is usually more crowded but COVID has brought the numbers down which made the walk nice. Either way I recommend it as just something to do on a slow day or a place to see during travels.

The grounds of Meiji Jingu or the Shrine of Emperor Meiji are huge, including a large central lawn and a forest reserve as well as the actual shrine itself. Our older son married his wife in 2015 at the Meiji Shrine, which is open to the public to reserve a date for the ceremony and wedding dinner right on the grounds.

Beautiful Shrine commemorating Emperor Meiji which was the main push towards a more advanced and technological Japan as opposed to the samurai inspired and barbaric ways they used to lead. The shrine is beautiful but what makes it really special is the vast amount of woods surrounding it! There are multiple entrances and exits but the most common one is very close to Harajuku station

One of the most special places in Tokyo. Located literally in the center of the city, right near Omotesando Ave. The contrast from the busy streets just 5 minutes walking distance is simply incredible. There are three entrances (Harajuku Exit, Yoyogi Exit, and Sangubashi Exit), but I think it's best to go to the main shrine from the Harajuku Exit, which is right next to Harajuku Station, through the south approach. The shrine covers an area of 73 hectares (the size of about 15 Tokyo Domes), and is covered with an artificial forest made up of about 100,000 trees donated from all over the country. Going to a wooded area will help you stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city and refresh yourself. Meiji Jingu is the most famous shrine in Tokyo, Japan. It was established in 1920 by the people who donated 100,000 trees from all over Japan and overseas. Now the shrine is covered by a big forest, and you can feel spirits in here. I write 8 interesting things you should know before visiting. CHECK 1 - Enshrined deities are souls of Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken, who passed away in 1912 and 1914. At that time, the Emperor was just like God for Japanese people. Meiji Jingu is a relatively new shrine. CHECK 2 - The precinct's temperature of the shrine is 3 degree Celsius below compared to the outside metro area in Tokyo in summer because it is covered by a big forest. The forest is artificial and created by donated trees. The forest has 245 species of trees, which is unusual for a forest. CHECK 3 - The number of visitors to the shrine is about 3,500,000 per year, and 1,200,000 people of them are foreign visitors. Wow, 1 of 3 people are from overseas! (Not this year, though...) CHECK 4 - after a while you walk in the shrine, you can see Sake (rice wine) barrels and grape wine barrels donated. At normal shrines, you do not see grape wine barrels even though Sake is a sacred drink in Japan. In the Meiji period, Japan finally opened the door overseas and started to learn Western cultures. Emperor Meiji also tried western style attire and hair. Especially he loved grape wine, and it is said that he passed away due to diabetes. CHECK 5 - Because the center of the approach is for the divine spirits' passage, try to walk on the left side of the approach to the main hall. CHECK 6 - The corner of the approach to the mail hall is not 90 degree, but 88 degree angle because 8 is lucky number in Japan when we write in Chinese character, the shape of 8 is auspicious. CHECK 7 - The second shrine gateway of Meiji Jingu is the biggest wooden gateway in Japan. The material wood used is Japanese cypress, 1,500 year old and brought from Taiwan. You can still smell the scent of wood especially in a rainy day. CHECK 8 - The heart shape ♥ you can find of shrine's structure is not heart, it is actually the eyes of wild boars. They do not like fires, and their eyes can protect wooden shrines from fires... not sure if they are really heart shape?? But try to find hearts in the shrine! On the auspicious calendar day, especially on the weekend, you might be able to see a wedding march in Japanese style. The couples are sooo beautiful. Congratulate them and get happy air :) If you wish to find the right person for marriage or wish your happy life with your partner, pray for these couple camphor trees. These trees are in front of the main hall. Please visit Meiji Jungu Shrine after COVID, and I wish you good luck!

Meiji Jingu is dedicated to the spirits of Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken who have become 'gods'. You can really tell that this shrine is special by the way it is surrounded by a forest with many towering trees. Meiji Jingu is always worth a visit every time I am in Tokyo. If you happen to be there during the last two weeks of December, you will see the shrine selling Hamaya or 'demon-breaking arrow'. It is a beautiful piece of Japanese culture that I had to have.

  • 4/5 Alizen 3 years ago on Google
Definitely a must visit for tourists. If you're heading to Shibuya, this shrine is conveniently located right in the middle of the city so it's worth stopping by to check out. While there are many shrines in Tokyo, this one is much busier due to its location. Its juxtaposition to Yoyogi Park and Harajuku makes this quite an interesting tourist attraction and the further in you go the more you realize just how massive the site is. Meiji Shrine has one of the biggest Torii gates, so don't forget to take your selfie here. There is a specific area in the shrine where you can write your hopes and wishes on a piece of paper to hang up and a separate area for which you can provide simple offerings as well. Unlike Sensoji, which is arguably the most popular shrine here, you'll find solace in the peacefulness of the woods and the absence of incessant gift shops and stores begging for you to purchase souvenirs.

(Translated by Google) A level crossing alarm that stands quietly along the road of Shiodome. Soon after I felt that I was in such a place, at the foot of the alarm, there was a bill with "the only level crossing left in the Ginza area". If you look at the back of the alarm at the back of the road, you will see a slightly thin road that runs to the back of the brand new Belsalle Shiodome Building. The condition of the gentle curve reminds you of the track trace somehow. Were freight lines passing in the old days? It's a shamelessly small remains, but if you look around it, it will be a place that is a bit trickier to the abandoned wire.

A true oasis in the heart of the world's biggest city, Tokyo. Meiji Jingu is an historic 100 year old Shinto shrine dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his wife empress Shōken. The shrine is located in a forest covering 170 acres and is unique among any large city the world over. What you immediately notice upon entering and stepping under and beyond the monumental tori gate is the sense of calm and quiet that descends, despite being surrounded by the bustling Tokyo streets and shops. It really does have to be experienced in person. Aside from the shrine there is a lot to discover including a koi pond and several other shrines. From here you can then visit the adjoining Yoyogi Park.

It was a very scenic walk into the shrine - you can really feel at peace and zen here, with the occasionally ruffling sounds of the trees along the path. That’s a train station right outside the shrine so it’s pretty convenient to get to as well! I recommend adding this to your bucket list if you’re ever coming to Japan!

There were lovely, wide and greenery-surrounded paths to visit the shrine for the late Japanese emperor Meiji. It was fascinating to learn more the history of this relatively new shrine (opened in 1920 I believe) and witness the culture traditions here. The structure in the photo is apparently the largest of its kind in Japan; quite impressive.
