Worst Selina in the world. I have stayed many times at Selinas in different countries because I usually love them and this Selina Montañita was a nightmare. It is literally impossible to sleep at night because the hostel is nestled between the 2 biggest clubs in Montañita. The music is extremely loud and starts at 7pm lasting until 4am. On top of that, Selina has its own music and DJ starting 9am so it’s completely impossible to rest or chill at any time of the day. The beds even vibrate during the night because of the noise. The towels were super dirty and there was no atmosphere at all at the hostel. The staff could not recommend any tours either. The only good thing is the location in front of the beach. Would definitely never return there and wished I never travelled to Montañita.

The staff was pretty welcoming and overall helpful. But, we should've known right away because he laughed when we said we were staying for 2 weeks and were there to travel and work. Literally laughed out loud and said "good luck." He was right. THE NOISE!! This place is incredibly loud at night, far noisier than we could have ever expected. This Selina is literally surrounded by clubs. Not just bars. Full on rager night clubs that blast music until 6am or later on the weekends, and on some weeknights too. The security of the building is pretty poor since there are multiple ways to get in. The locks on the door are not sufficient for American travelers staying in what appears to be a pretty sketchy area. That being said, we didn't have any issues with security. But didn't exactly feel safe either. There's no wifi in the room which is ridiculous for a place that charges far more than other hostels. I've always like the Selina brand, but as I've stayed at a few of them now, have not been impressed with their service or facilities.

Don't come here, cleanliness at a disgusting level, we took the most expensive suite and we had cockroaches in the room, a piece of bread on the floor, sheets with blood stains and the highlight, one of the cleaners stole our drone from the room. The attitude of the hotel employees and the reception is simply disgusting and they did not help us in any way and did not compensate us in any way, I will not go near this chain again, simply disrespecting the customers!!!

Selina is in a fabulous location! We stayed for a few nights and you could step onto the beach from our room! It is right in the center of things so if you are looking for anything, you are in the right spot. They also have a wide variety of activities available! My personal favourite was the surf lesson with Carlos! Very passionate about what he does and a fantastic teacher! Thank you for making our trip so memorable.

The music from this place or surrounding clubs will shake your room to the point where you can’t hear yourself think, let alone sleep. And it’s loud every single day, from 8AM until 4AM. This was probably one of the worst decisions I’ve ever made when booking a place to stay. My friend and I with separate rooms both cut our stay short, and they denied any sort of refund. Do not stay here unless you are sure you want to be sleeping inside of a speaker.

For CoLive travelers: Selina Montañita is very unique compared to other Selina locations. Montañita is a place where parties never stop and you would find that it's a difficult place to get work done or have a long night of sleep. There are some nights where music stops at 6 a.m and starts again at 7 a.m, so please be aware of that. Personally, I loved the rooms, the food and the people. The Cowork area was great and internet was reliable (stable 15GB DL/15GB UL) considering the location. The beach is great and there a lot of places to eat/party if your plan is to try new things there. If you want to go there to relax, I strongly advise you to go somewhere else. lol

Selina was a great stay in Montanita. It is very central to all of the shops and restaurants and dancing. It is also on the beach so you have direct access to amazing sunsets.

The location of Selina is great because it is right in the middle of Montañita, I think the staff must be careful l with the cleaning of shared spaces like bathrooms and to check on toilet paper and all that

The only good thing about this hotel is that parking is available and the Rooms have air conditioning other than that the Rooms are Substandard Small beds no TV the bathroom Does not have hot water the Service Sucks had to call Reception 3 times for towers and no Conforter in the Rooms small bed and way overpriced I paid $322 for 2 nights totally disappointed will not Recommend this so call hotel!!

Staying in the Selina, I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay here. The staff are very rude apart from the friendly guy at the breakfast bar. On arrival the guy that looks Ned from Spiderman, very negative person saying to me and 3 friends. 'in his own words' 'we will hate this place' great start to the stay to hear that. Carlos the security guard very passive aggressive and threating to call police on guests on multiple times who I have spoken with at the pool for drinking in your own room and bringing guests. Ridiculous rules and a controlling environment. The hostel is very money hungry and claims to be a nomad hostel but charges ridiculous extra cost for the work space. Better to go wave cafe close by. enjoy a coffee and much faster WiFi for half the price. Location is good if you want to be in the heart of monitnata. But the service is very terrible here. Breakfast included is a 3/5 Rooms are good and pool is clean. Some staff will make your stay very negative. Suggest staying at another location.

I've never reviewed before, but this was the worst place I have ever stayed.

Tiny rooms with literally a bed in them, no room for any of your stuff, bag etc. Dirty towels with stains. We were told there’s a “towel shortage” when we asked for fresh towels We had to request for our room to be cleaned and they put bedsheets with black mould on them The toilets are disgusting and never cleaned The showers didn’t have locks on them (?!) had to ask for locks to be put on them The staff are half asleep and haven’t a clue how to run the place. They seem so lost when you ask for anything The pool is nice but again, the chairs are full of bird poo and never cleaned The location is great as it’s right on the beach and within all the restaurants and bars. However, if you’re looking to get any sort of sleep, don’t stay here. The hostel is in between two of the biggest nightclubs and the music is on until 5am every night of the week. The hostel itself starts playing music before 9am every morning even though there’s literally no one to play for?! They had some singer with the screechiest voice waking people up. Bizarre.

Poor rooms and service… much worst than most Selina’s I visited in Peru, Ecuador and Brazil, the only positive thing is the location since it’s in the heart of Montañitas

this was a beautiful selina! it’s location is absolutely perfect. they have many nice places to lounge and get work done while you look out into the ocean. fast wifi, fun activities and incredible staff! surfing was great. I would definitely come back :)

I actually went to Selina to learn how to surf. Carlos was extremely patient, versatile and I’m not too terrible at surfing which surprised me. But his English is perfect and he’s incredibly patient. Ekaterina also was incredibly kind and helpful with making sure I knew what to expect reservation-wise and she showed me around the city and restaurants there. I could easily say both are the best people I’ve met so far on my Ecuador trip. I’ll be back to Montanitas and Selina! PS, bonus points for finding the iguanas in Montanitas.

Honestly this was my least favorite Selina so far. The Location is great with it being right on the beach but that's about all it has going for it & unfortunately the beach you walk out onto is very dirty filled with bottles, plastic , trash from the nights before party and day drinking. If you want to sleep, good luck the noise from all the parties around are so loud and go till 4-6am the next morning. The safety at this location is very low. Many people had there phones stolen from this location including their own staff. They have no security around. They also don't have the nice Selina wristbands like all the other locations, just paper ones that had to be replaced a couple times. The Co working space wasn't the best. Its a small room with a few desk and its too hot and stuffy to work in.. The A/C doesnt work in the room. I worked in the bar but it is loud if you have meetings and are on phone mostly. Wifi did work good for most of the time I was there. tho! If you are looking for a central spot and plan to party all weekend with little sleep then this would be a good spot but if you are not into that I would look to stay somewhere else.

My worst selina experience so far , im travelling for 6 months now , been in 7 countries , every location its always selina for me , this time no more . The only thing is good about this one is the location , the selina team sucks , they treat you like a stranger , its always noisy untill 7am , we got promised having a balcony and breakfast , didnt happen . Im disappointed because i love staying at selina for my vacation . Wont happen again

One window didn’t in the bathroom. Staff is great but this place needs investment to look nice. Paint is chipped everywhere. The kitchen needs to be renovated and cleaned more regularly. The knives and kitchen supplies were disgustingly old. It was embarrassing.

The only good thing was the surf with Elias. The hostal is located in between the clubs, and therefore it is VERY noisy in the rooms! The music goes until 5 am. Moreover, people keep partying in the hostal after the closing of the clubs until very late - 8 am!! They should control better who enters and leaves the hostal during the night. We did not feel safe. The wifi was not working at all. In our room the hot water was not working. No place to hang the wet stuff like towels or bathsuit… things get never dry since the room did not have a proper window. We were there in October and the hostal was almost empty during the week… There was a lack of cleanliness in general.
