Probably the most popular trail at Castlewood for good reason. It's short at 3.1 miles, hills are not bad and views of the Mermac are excellent

Our favorite trail in Castlewood park, takes you along the bluffs for amazing views and down to the river valley all on the same trail. There is definitely a climb involved and quite a few stairs as well but it is completely manageable. Have fun!!!

Medium difficulty trail with solid incline in the beginning and beautiful views of river. We hiked during light rain and trees protected us. Stay hydrated.

The river scene trail was great. If you choose to start from the parking area closest to the entrance, you’ll have a hike that takes you straight up a rocky path at a pretty steep angle. Make sure to wear good fitting shoes and watch your footing for loose rocks. Once you’re at the top, you’ll have excellent views of the forest and river. If you plan on hanging out at the beach, you might want to skip the views and start the trail from the last parking area closest to the train bridge tunnel. Watch out for snakes on the section of trail that runs along the river. Some are very small, and don’t pose any threat. Just make sure they don’t get trampled.

We have visited this park countless times & we still haven't explored so much of this beautiful area!! Today we specifically focused on the River Scene Trail. We took our shihtzu & she loved the climb. We saw several other leashed dogs, walkers, runners, & bikers. It's a steep climb with loose rocks of various sizes so, good foot wear is imperative! There are several openings to look at the water & treetops below; 2 bench spots, a wooden deck overlook area, & several little open bluff areas to sit safely. The trail is very well marked with bright red arrows. This is the most beautiful fall hike views I've ever seen. I love this place in the summer, but it's absolutely magical with the trees turning deep red, bright orange, & gorgeous oranges!

A nice loop that goes along the hill ridge over the river and then down to along the riverside. Took us three able adults about an hour and a half, even with stopping for pictures. Trail has some steep spots and plenty of crossing roots and terrain unevenness on the hills. Riverside portion accessible from a nearby parking lot so the flat and more friendly packed dirt and sand trail is reachable if you need to skip the hill. Recommend the higher vistas too. Didn't seem as crowded as other hiking reviewers made it sound. We went on a sunny Sunday afternoon. There's a rail line that goes through the center of the loop along the river so you pass under it in a pedestrian tunnel

Walk the creek towards The river highly enjoyable, Saw lots of nature nice cold water perfect date environment wasn't very busy In fact probably only 4 other families there in the creek at all. Love The fact they're trying to bring back the natural ground but it's sad that the creek is eroding and soon a lot of trees might fall. Didn't bother bringing my phone in case I slipped into the water wish I did some amazing pictures could have been taken.
