Yes they’re very hip + French—in food and in ‘tude. Deal with it silently as a true Olympian would or stand there and insist on having your way but don’t blame them if you let them get away with bad service. Simple + wholesome folksy food, gorgeously presented. The pastry case will make you break all of the promises you have made to yourself. Try the croque madame. You could make it at home, but you woke up early and wanted to get out and about on a sunny morning, enjoy the finer things in life like coffee and people watching. No wifi here, by design. Bring a crossword puzzle or a book. Oddly I do not recommend their bread. They overbake it and when questioned they insist that is the French way as though that’s the truth which it’s not. Which ironically makes them very French ;) Sidewalk seating in the summer, overflow bar seating in the building atrium.

Great experience! We stopped in cause it was a bread and soup kind of morning. I had been wanting to give them a shot for months and tbh I am disappointed that I didn't try them sooner. The ham and cheese pastry had a croissant like flakey goodness, and the loaf of garlic and cheese sour dough was to die for, I ate half the loaf dipping it in my French onion soup... I will say the French onion was only average, BUT the salad it came with more then made up for it. I can't say there are too many things I love more then a good soup, salad, and bread. I loved the vibe too, the people were so friendly and welcoming. Really the only complaint I had was it was PACKED and there was really no where to sit, we ended up grabbing a seat at the ice cream shop outside, and when a spot opened inside, moved closer. Don't let this deter you though. The seating issue isn't that big a deal, and it was totally worth the hassle, for the yums.

My fiancé had been looking forward to trying The Bread Peddler for weeks and we had the absolute worst experience this afternoon. We ordered a coffee and a chai, two pastries, a classic breakfast and a croque madame. Total was $50 plus tip. My chai came out lukewarm and was not a chai. Just barely warm cinnamon milk. I got rid of it. We sat ourselves and got condiments for the breakfasts that would come out. 30 minutes later, all the tables around us have received their meals and ours was nowhere in sight. When we asked the staff at the counter about our food, they said they forgot about us. No one was in the kitchen. The pastries we tried were delicious but the overall experience was terrible. Tables sat un-bussed for 30 minutes while staff members sat down with patrons to socialize. We only received a partial refund. We really hope that management addresses the service and quality issues with their staff.

Love the pastries and breads (the almond cake is my favorite), breakfast was just okay. I had the poached egg breakfast. Poached eggs were very inconsistent with one overcooked and one undercooked. I feel like the dish needed balance. The chevre and balsamic needed a bitter alongside. Arugula would be perfect. Pastries and bread amazing as always! Espresso was pretty good, too. Service was lovely. Update 11/11: eggs today were poached perfectly today and the classic breakfast was an all around hit.

The best croissants and French pastries outside of France. Love, love, love everything about this place from the bread to the brunch.

Excellent pastries, great coffee, wonderful service. Only a couple minutes' walk from the Doubletree, if you're just visiting like me. I especially recommend the gâteau Basque.

I’m impressed with their offerings here! Very good and big loaf of sourdough for $7 ( ~ easily more than $15 for a small loaf where I’m from in Los Angeles) Enjoyed their gougères and croissants. Almond croissant is interesting… like a cross between a croissant and frangipane? Scrumptious nonetheless. Definitely go early! Things run out way before lunch hour

Delicious sourdough bread, delightfully flakey cruffin and a solid latte. But my favorite is their Kouign Amann.

I've been looking for some quality bread. Google helped me locate this shop and I drove out to see what breads they offer. I was not disappointed it was worth the drive. I haven't been able to try the 3 loaves I purchased but I did eat the almond croissant in the parking lot and it is a high value experience. Such a good pastry. It would take to many words to describe. I would say this shop is a destination.

This is a great place to grab a bite to eat downtown! Conveniently located right next to a parking lot, it’s a breeze to get to. I got the bread pudding and a Gruyère roll for breakfast and they were both amazing! I’ve also gotten the tomato soup for lunch and it cured my oncoming cold (not medical advice but definitely lunch advice)! I keep trying to get a palmier but they go so quickly, probably because it’s the only place in Olympia to get a fresh one! The staff are always friendly and helpful; I can’t recommend this place enough.

The display cabinet with all of it's scrumptious looking baked items was very enticing. I ordered a croissant and a cookie. Both items were fine, but nothing to write home about. I have had some pretty perfect croissants while traveling in France. To be honest, I prefer the croissants from Costco to this one. The outer layer seemed to have been coated in an egg wash that made that outer layer too hard rather than being flaky and delicate. The cookie had a subtle underlying flavor that I can best describe as an anise taste. I would maybe go back and give them a second chance but would be hesitant to recommend the bread peddler to others.

Let me tell you, if you are looking for a delicious sourdough bread look no further. I went right at 7am when they opened. Got home and the bread was still warm enough to spread butter over and have a slice. Heaven. Definitely qualifies as an emotional support loaf. I'm also snacking on their chocolate cream cheese Danish. Absolutely delicious. Prices were very reasonable for the quality. It was a bit dark when I went in and I was having a hard time reading the bread types but 10/10 recommend.

The staff are stressed and ill prepared with 1 cashier working the tell, and several in the back kitchen. Everything was served cold (we weren’t asked how we wanted it) and the apple fritter was like eating croutons. No reason to come back.

I use Google reviews religiously and the fact that Bread Peddler is a 4.3 is a joke. This is the best bakery around. Their quiches are second to none. Coffee is amazing and the poached egg breakfast is unique and amazing. Their Gateau Basque is one of the best sweets I’ve ever had. Which is a shame because it means I never order the Coffee Cake anymore which is also incredible. Oh and by the way, the bread rocks and their chocolate chip cookies are stellar. This should be ranked a 4.7-4.9 no question.

You can smell the fresh bread baking form the door. The croissants are the best I've had yet, they're HUGE and soft in side but so fluffy and flakey. This is the best bakery I've come across in Thurston County yet. Can't wait to go back.

Damn fine classic French bakery! All the offerings here are done right and the owner is a treasure, a very kind man. He pays his staff fairly(I worked here briefly, sorry young me walked out on the dish pit Andre!) The only possible complaint here is that sometimes the reheat items from the fridge(breakfast sandwich for example) don’t get full hot inside.. I believe this team of top notch folks can rectify this with a little process tweak. Thanks for all the killer bread and coffee!

Fabulous authentic French bakery! This is my favorite place in Olympia. Delicious croissants and great simple soups. We miss Sylvie who used to work there though! She was the manager and made sure everything ran smoothly to a T.

I love this place! The quality of food & beverages is always stellar. Best coffee & hot chocolate in downtown Olympia. Breakfast sandwiches & quiche sell out quick so get here before 11am! They have a good variety of artisan bread and pastries…. All delicious! The baristas here are sweet and helpful and best of all….. professional.

I got a turkey sandwich and it was pretty good. If you are a bread lover, then this is for you. Of course the pastries, had to get them. The giant cookie is so awesome.

Oh I’m obsessed with this place!! They have this one sandwich sometime (chevre and roasted tomato) that is my favorite sandwich ever. The pastries are always SO good, too, and believe me, I’ve eaten a lot of pastries. These are some of the best!

This bakery made me rediscover what it means to be in love with bread. I swore off bread a long time ago, for 17 years I wouldn't even look at the stuff, let alone be in the same radius as a single loaf. The seclusion from swearing off bread, and therefore swearing off all society caused me great distress, but I had to be brave. The first establishment I encountered was the Bread Peddler, and although I was shaking from anxiety I decided to enter the building. I was greeted by a lovely fellow with a wonderful hat and ordered some various items on the menu. I indulged in some maple twists and started to see stars, a wave of nirvana rushed over me, I was truly in a state of complete contentment. My life hasn't ever been better since that moment, I long for the moment that I first took that bite and I can come close to reliving it every time I visit.

I've only been to their Olympia Farmers Market location, but will absolutely be going to their brick and mortar location in the near future. They have amazing croissants, cookies, and many other baked goods. I've literally never been disappointed with anything I've tried.

An Americanized French bakery. A lot of sugary things. Update! The classic bread I got from them for $7 is mostly air and chewy. So not french at all. it has a giant air bubble in it that makes it impossible to use it as a sandwich bread😆 Not good!

Stopped in for a coffee and breakfast pastry on a work trip and was just blown away by everything on offer. Everything looked so delicious and I can’t wait to come back to try something new!

First time trying this place and it's a solid 5 stars all around. My wife and I both had breakfast, got a few pastries, and had lattes. All of it was very delicious. Ambiance and service was fantastic. Price was very reasonable. I can't wait to go back.
