Many people who shop at quality, local, healthy food stores are familiar with Blue Heron Bakery Breads - their quality and different types of loaves. This location is their bakery / cafe - and if you are a fan of the breads, you're sure to like the cafe as well. This is the kind of food I grew up with in 1970s Seattle at various "hippie" healthy restos we'd go to - with lots of vegetarian and vegan offerings: scrambles, sandwiches and scratch soups. You can buy bread...and BAKED GOODS....which, honestly, I am most excited about. Cakes, loaves, cupcakes, bars...it's all yummy. Some of it is vegan. The espresso is fab here as well. They've just changed over to a co-op, so you can buy a membership. It allows us to help the bakery remain in business & thrive. It also gives you discounts on your purchases. Easy parking in their lot...they are located at the corner of the building furthest from the street.

Truly excellent breakfast sandwich. Kind of greasy, tho, so grab some extra napkins. The iced latte was also very good, they didn't use a ton of sugar and the taste of the coffee itself really shined through.

Great Americano, delicious carrot cake bread, and an impressive selection of baked goods - including a full case of gluten free options!

It was a nice place. Not quite what I had in mind, but they have some really good, healthy options! It's a little on the spendy side. I personally didnt care for the bread. I got a "croissant" and it was the consistency of cornbread. Other than that it was good. My brother had a breakfast sandwich and he said it was good, but same thing. The mustard that was on it was really good! The staff is friendly and helpful and I wish them best of luck! :)

Away from the crowded shopping down the street, it's easy to miss this spot. Look for the light brown sign (see photo) on the corner. Plenty of parking and staff in hand. Beautiful baked goods. Took home some gluten-free focaccia and smoked salmon spread, toasted it with tomato and a dash of black pepper. For dessert: apricot walnut date sourdough!

Delicious Gluten Free Food- At last!! We stopped here for breakfast, I got the GF egg & cheese sandwich and my husband got the ham & cheese croissant, both were incredible! We also got GF sweets; cheesecake, chocolate chip cookies, and apple cake which were all delicious! The staff were all really friendly and the chef takes great pride in making yummy food. Going to try the pizza next time. We can't wait to come back! Thank you Blue Heron!

This is one of My favorite places to go because they have gf, df, vegan options and everything is delicious and healthy. I love their seasonal drinks they always have. Plus I can get dog treats for my pup.

I have been coming here quite a bit. This place is so good. They have a great atmosphere, wonderful staff and they try to accommodate for food allergies if they can. Everything I have eaten here is so good I keep coming back and not going to any other bakeries in the area because of how good their food is. I highly recommend eating here.

I'm giving 3 stars, because I'd actually like this place to succeed even with pretty bad service and multiple orders of compromised quality. I appreciate them trying to do a co-op, and the food could be good if they honed in their quality and consistency. They also get slammed when there's more than one order at a time. See attached photos for the "side of chips" and a pickle. That makes no sense at all...it's just corn chips and pickles, you guys won't lose that much money giving people a decent amount and/or pitching items of questionable quality. Some of the staff also has a militant stance against you asking to hold the vegenaise--they may even purposefully not note it so that you still get it on your sandwich. Weirdest customer service experience I've had in years...and my partner and I have 15+ combined years in food service, so not sure why we were treated like enemies instead of comrades. But, oh well, we won't be back, however we still hope Blue Heron can get their stuff together and successfully run this cafe (and bakery). The baked goods seem very honed in, but the cafe space seems on the edge of unravelling.

Blue heron has always been a great spot for coffee and a pastry, and has only become better as they expand their menu to delicious, filling sandwiches and other fair. If you want good coffee or a great lunch, you should absolutely swing by.

Absolutely fresh, moist and delicious pastries! I had a bowl of chili and that was delicious. The gluten free muffin was amazing as was the cream cheese carrot cake! I highly recommend and I'll continue to come back for the best baked goods in town!

Almost choked to death on a massive uncooked kale stem in my eggs. Aside from the near death experience, the toast was just untoasted bread, the paper straw dissolved into my drink, and when I mentioned that the brownie had no flavor let alone sweetness and tasted like cocoa powder bread, I was told that it was “all natural” and my taste buds hadn’t adjusted. I’ve been all natural for years. Not to mention the purposeful lack of seating which does a huge disservice to people with mobility issues waiting on their food. I get that they don’t want people dining in right now due to the pandemic, but it’s ableist to assume everyone can stand for 45 minutes waiting for eggs.

BHB is an employee-owned co-op. The baked goods are delicious, made with organic ingredients, and reasonably priced, and the staff is friendly. I bought a cinnamon roll and three fudge "Mud Bars" to share with friends later that day. I would have awarded a fifth star if only there was more seating inside, so that I didn't have to take my cinnamon roll home before enjoying it. I will be back in the future to taste more goodies! 😋

The soup was wonderful. The sourdough was perfect. I want to try the granola next time. The honey latte was odd because there were crunchy bits... I think some coffee grounds ended up in the cup on accident.

I really wanted to like this place, but left unimpressed. I had business in Olympia and wanted a place to hang out with a great cup of coffee and a gluten free snack. There was no seating, they insisted on masking, and two GF options. The coffee was good,, but the whole "experience" wasn't worth it. I won't return.

Hummus, breakfast sandwich sans the gluten, almond cookies, and coffee, OH My! Blue Heron, you sing the song of my people, loud and proud. I have never met a Blue Heron tasty morcel that wasn't! I can taste the "love made" hand crafted goodness in everything! Stop in and try something special for your picnic lunch or your hungry spirit. Your taste buds will be dancing with delight once you do! Thank you, Lovely Blue Heron humans, thank you!

Great options and the pastries have the right sugar level. They also have some vegan options which is always a great addition. Coffee is good too. Kind staff and well maintained rest rooms.

They had a variety of pastries and breads when I was there. I got their salmon cream cheese spread(50% off), some of the ice cream they had for sale, a can of yerba mate, and french toast. It seemed to take a while for them to make the french toast but that was not a big deal for me at the time. The portion was large which was nice. The French toast was good but something was missing. I think it was that I expected a fluffy french toast but it was made with cranberry almond sour dough. Overall not a bad experience. It is expensive. My bill was over $30 for 4 things. I will be back to give them another chance.

The folks were nice. The pastry I got (honey almond twist) was tasty but seemed a bit old. The mocha was burnt. Very burnt. I couldn't get myself to drink it.

The wife and I visited on a weekday evening. There were a few people seated outside, but no other customers were in line. There were 5 people behind the counter, each busy with a various task, but it took nearly 2 minutes of standing there for anyone to even say hello. The person who came to take our order didn't seem pleased to see us. She wasn't overtly rude, but the general atmosphere was unwelcoming. My wife and I both ordered the tempeh Ruben sandwiches, which were very tasty, but the portion sizes leaved much to be desired. The "sides" that came with our sandwiches were 4 tortilla chips (yes, 4 of them) and a pickle spear. We literally laughed out loud when we saw it. Overall, I don't think we will return. The place is very quaint and attractive, but the atmosphere and product could use some work. Just my opinion. Feel free to try it and form your own.

Can't speak highly enough about our experience here. We were in town for a wedding and a few days before we found out we needed a small vegan gluten free cake and other desserts for some of the guests. They were able to accommodate us and made a wonderful cake. The staff and baker were wonderful and honestly people couldn't even tell the cake was vegan and gluten free. We will definitely return when we visit in the future.
