I would advise against going here, it is not safe. I thought and still believe it is supposed to be open to the public but the "caretaker" will claim you are private property and chase you off and make veiled threats against you. If you go I advise having a camera on just in case. This place needs to have this person removed and a proper caretaker installed, preferably before next spring/summer before the wildflowers bloom. Stay safe fellow wanderers.

According to Washington Trails Association, Glacial Heritage Preserve is only open one day a year, on Prairie Appreciation Day, which is usually in early May. This may explain some of the other reviews saying they were chased off by some angry caretaker claiming it is private property. (Ignore the star rating, Google forces me to rate it something to leave a review)

This prairie has gone through intensive restoration over the decades. Lovely place to work and visit (although not open the public). Look for "Prairie Appreciation Day" in May for public access.

I tried to take my family here for a day trip and some extremely rude obnoxious women came driving up behind us real fast yelling at me that I was blocking her path I needed to get out of the way. She then proceeded to tell me I was not allowed in its private property. This land should be open to the public . No one should have to put up with power tripping people who think they own the damn world.

Prairie appreciation day is when they open it up for tours, short walks, or hiking. Beautiful flowers, birds, and unique habitat forthe area. Free and worth the trip!

Open one day a year - or for private access if you’re lucky to get in to do research - and always worth the trip.

Amazing place. In a land of giant trees and steep mountains, a prairie becomes a spectacular place. (Especially if it’s blooming) The abandoned airstrip is pretty cool too.
