I have only incredible words for Amy's Merkato. The owner Yodeet is an incredible woman, always over the top hospitable during each of my visits! I had eaten here a few times pre-COVID for the amazing injera options, but just went back for you first time this weekend (Aug 2021) for a dine in experience. There are 2 tables outside and nicely spaced seating inside right by the door (which remained open for air flow the whole time). My friend and I ordered the deluxe/ultimate veggie option and it was the perfect amount for us if not a little bit too much. We also ordered a slice of the orange cake and it was perfectly fluffy and a good amount of sweet. In the past, I've done a veggie injera and a lamb ribs injera for 4-5 people - it's the best of both worlds!! Since my friend and I stayed for a few hours to chat and eat, Yodeet came over at the end to offer us a refill for our lattes!!! So nice! We declined because we were already so happy and full, and in return she gave us some baklava to take home. If you've never tried injera before, 1. You're missing out, 2. Amy's Merkato is a GREAT place to ease into your first experience! I promise you'll be back for more. :)

This place offer both Ethiopian and American food. We had vegetarian combo and some desserts. They were all good. I thought the cakes were generous portion. They also sells some groceries. I saw organic non-wheat flours like oat flour and a couple of other kind.

This place is just so great. The food is delicious and the proprietors are very kind and welcoming. Have had dinner here maybe 4 times and wouldn’t go anywhere else for Ethiopian food. My partner and I often share the meat & veggie combo platter and it’s a satisfying meal for two. The doro wat is a particular favorite. Highly recommend!

Given the high ratings of this place, I have visited it several times and don't understand the 4.8 rating. So here is my contrarian perspective: Food - While the injera is good, the main show, the meats, the veggies are all sub par. The flavors are lacking. It often tastes stale. There are many Ethiopian restaurants on this street and in greater Seattle area who do a 10x better job with food flavor, quality and consistency. The food here is consistently sub-par. It is also in much lower quantity than what is offered at other places. The traditional coffee here is excellent but the main show is bad. Service - Slow and inattentive. The gentleman in front has a smile on his face and he is helpful but often missing and after much waiting one has no choice but to walk up to Atmosphere! - The grocery area occupies much of the store. That's fine, I don't care much either way but the layout and dining experience isn't much to speak of. Other Ethiopian restaurants are not known for their decor but have a livelier vibe.

Loved everything about the place. The food was very good, fresh, well made and served with so much warmth by the folks at the cafe. The Ethiopian coffee with roasted barley went very well with the cakes of the day! There was something about the cafe, that made us relax and have a memorable afternoon

Very good food! Our first experience at a place like this. We ordered the vegan veggie meal for 2 and a kombucha. Would definitely come again. Nice server. They recycle too! Pay at the counter. The ambiance could use a pick-me-up but who really cares ;) shop for goods like dates too. bathroom on site. Street parking.

Life is like good food. If you never try new foods you will never know if you are going to like it. If you don’t tap into new experiences you will never know if you will enjoy the experience or if you are even good at it. Thank you for the amazing food and host. I enjoyed my visit and trying new food.

Our first experience at Amy’s was great. We ordered red tibs and shiro made on a pot. The Shiro was amazing but the red tibs not so much. The meat was bit dry not as spicy as we expected it. Also there were two guys and a girl seated on the other side talking aloud. Shouting and laughing. I was surprised to see Habesha people using the F word in public. It was shameful!

Had the green chicken sandwich, and it was amazing. Roll was lightly toasted and inside it was tangy, well spiced Ethiopian spinach chicken with lettuce and tomatoes. Buttery smooth goodness with just enough spice to warm your taste buds. The qatena (?) appetizer was crispy injeera folded over a decisive spice layer. Much spicer, but not enough to overwhelm the complex mix of flavors. Highly recommended.

The Ethiopian food was amazing and tasty. We got the veggie combo platter. Platter has good portion for 2 ppl. The place has both vegetarian and vegan options. Owner of the restaurant is very friendly. We had the amazing experience. Highly recommended place to try out Ethiopian food.

Great place to try something new. Owners are so kind, they explained to us how to eat our vegetarian platter and gave us more bread. So lovely.

An absolutely wonderful cafe in Columbia City. I wish I had discovered this small shop much earlier. I loved their cakes and I absolutely found the interior store design captivating. The server was very polite, friendly and easy to talk to. She took our order and let us know how long it was going to take to warm the other ingredients she needed. If you are looking for friendly cafe in the neighborhood, check this place out.
