I cannot say enough good things about this hospital šŸ’œ From the moment we checked in we were treated with respect and compassion and just an overall feeling of support. The surgeons, doctors and nurses have been and continue to be so amazing. My family and I are so grateful for these beautiful people.. Although this is the most difficult time in our lives we actually look forward to the time that we get to spend at OHSU with these people, because they truly are the most amazing people in our lives. *Our Angels on earthšŸ˜‡* They come to work everyday to take care of other people and they do it so genuinely with so much compassion and care. Thank you OHSU for taking such good care of my family and helping to bring back the light in our eyes.

What an awful experience... I have a 5yo with severe autism who started having seizures 2 months ago. Two months later we arrive 15 minutes early vs the 30 minutes early we where told to arrive due to a 3 hour drive that took 4 with all the construction. In a hurry we went to the first parking lot...full... Circling us back to parking lot B, I was told it was right next to the entrance.. we rushed to the first doors we seen after parking...WRONG BUILDING.. now the panic sets in ... finally 5 minutes later we walk in the main doors ..at this point the appointment was 1 minute away... We reach the desk and they send us in the right direction nearly 20 minutes after our initial arrival.. unfortunately, 2 elevators and 9 floors later, I reach the lobby almost 20 minutes late and was told...."so sorry, going to need to re schedule" not only do I need to reschedule but I am givin a phone number to do so, how convenient.... They tell me it's a wait until mid September....it's June...my kid is having seizures and no one knows why but when I call and explain, instead of showing concern for my childs well being, the woman on the phone seemed to more concerned with and question why I looked for a help desk instead of stopping to restrain my autistic son to get into the diaper bag, grab my phone and call for help. I would never recommend this place solely based on my experience today... Now what? What happens when the next seizure comes and causes severe brain damage and later was found to be an easy solution or at least treatable? I guess I get to live with the fact it was my fault for not leaving 2 hours early instead of 1. Thanks "Hero's" šŸ’”

Staff and doctors are very rude and unprofessional. No one is willing to explain what they are planning on doing and and act like it is an inconvenience to explain things to parents. My daughter is currently admitted there, and she is terrified of her experience. Once they release her we will never be returning to this place.

Itā€™s not like you have a ton of choices, if you have a critically ill child. Just know that the pediatric oncology team is simply amazing and should you also have to face this in life, you are in good hands here. I will say this, thoughā€¦. The experience in the ED was pretty traumatic. The resident physician in the ED pulled me aside and told me that I needed to explain to my child that he had cancer. And ā€œlet me know if you need some help with that.ā€ I stood there in the hallway, stunned, and she walked away. I never saw her again! I had to do it on my own, and that sucked. The two of us sat alone in the ED ā€œbad newsā€ room for 3 hours, just contemplating what the ED physician has said, before oncology finally showed up and gave us some next steps. From there, everything went really smoothly, but that first experience could have been a lot better.

Surgeons where great Dr.Samaya was so kind and friendly to us, the operating team was great however some of the staff and their policyā€™s on the floor we were admitted to were not kind and lacked compassion, we were separated from our son 2 hrs into brain surgery and told one of us would have to leave before he got out of surgery because he was exposed to covid.. the manner that we were told to decide quick who was leaving and who was staying was horrible.. we drove 5 hrs to that hospital being told we could be together and then they wait till he is under to give us that news.As a hospital worker that works on a covid floor I know we were possibly exposing more people being allowed to switch out whenever we wanted than if we both had just stayed in the room. When I shared my opinion about the situation they said they were doing it to protect staff however half of the staff that came into the room During our five day stay rarely ever gowned up to come into the room so what was the point of separating us if youā€™re not going to follow your own policies? My son was traumatized from this experience waking up and not having his parents when he awoke and seeing us separately we were allowed to leave early because he cried every time the Nurses came into the room and didnā€™t understand why he couldnā€™t have both of us with him.Not to mention the financial burden they caused us having to rent a motel in portland is expensive, and then bill us Board and room 146,000 thousand dollars and some. Beware if you have had ANY covid exposure and are honest with them they will separate you from your child and are very sneaky about it.

My biggest complaint is a few months ago their team neglected to tell us that only 1 parent could stay in the room with our 1 year old after driving 4 hours to get to them after she was rushed there by ambulance, very unprofessional people. The person that gave me a list of the motels to stay at was rude as hell and after THEIR team messed up they should have been the one paying for my motel. My daughter got well but they don't communicate well on some levels

My son is disabled and we are frequent flyers here. For the last 5 years this hospital has supported me as a single parent in the hardest journey of my life. Couldnā€™t do this without them.

This is for the neurology part, Appointments are booked out there's no availability. Next available appointment I was told was January 10th at 8:00 a.m. and I was the only one available. I had to call my child's doctor's office to get her for out to a different neurologist office someplace with better availability. This appointment is for car accident that occurred in April of 2022.

I gave birth there and had a horrible experience and highly stressful due to the lack of my sonā€™s doctor team and their lack of human relationship. They automatically assumed I was a first time mom which upset me because I was not at all and I felt I wasted my time with the hospital paperwork on that. The doctor who checked on my son was super rude to me and didnā€™t listen to me when I told her I just fed him. After she and the team left and from her giving him a bottle he projectile vomited. The ivy that was in my sonā€™s foot was actually hurting him he didnā€™t have any sleep for 18 hours straight of non stop crying. Only one nurse actually believed me after observing him for 2 hours and the doctor didnā€™t listen. The sad part is the only thing I kept hearing is ā€œoh itā€™s normal for a new mother.ā€ No, itā€™s called stop assuming Iā€™m a first time mom when I already have a two year and also itā€™s called instinct when it comes to your baby and youā€™ve tried from feeding to checking on diaper and burping for 18 hours straight. It was pretty much nothing but feeling degraded and not listened to for the whole two weeks. I donā€™t recommend ever anyone young looking or just young in general to go there or they just treat you stupid.

We were sent to Doernbecher when my daughter needed her appendix out. Everyone was knowledgeable, helpful and great with children. They helped alleviate her fear and explain things in a way she could understand. Her nurse deserves a crown, his bedside manner was amazing. Her surgery went well and she recovered quickly. The best outcome in a bad situation. I don't have enough good things to say.

OHSU has an amazing staff. At the end of the day itā€™s a medical team and itā€™s only as good as itā€™s leadership( as any public service job goes). But the physicians and nurses are 5 star. Keep in mind these folks working here serve the city of Portland with a population of 600k+ residents and itā€™s a million+ if you count Portland and the surrounding areas. I have a son with an immune disease who spends a lot of time in and out of the hospital, and the team always makes him feel like heā€™s important. Iā€™ve never had the vibe that weā€™re a burden and everyone weā€™ve worked with has been great. As a parent whoā€™s never dealt with any of this prior to my sons health, Iā€™ve always had my questions answered and had help so I can get a meal or step out knowing my sons in a safe place. Dornbechers has given me hope in a hopeless situation. These are good people, donā€™t believe the nonsense on the reviews. I wouldnā€™t have half the piece of mind I do right now if I didnā€™t have the ohsu team helping my family through all this. Iā€™m beyond impressed and forever thankful.

I was a patient there for several months, my doctors were amazing. As an adult I thank them for my life and all they did for me, not only did they help me recover for over 6 months, but they were there for meā€¦ the wheel chair races we had to the holding my had during difficult procedures. Iā€™m almost 60 and remember my doctors like it was yesterday. Thank you for what you have done for me and all the others after me. I couldnā€™t have imagined being at a better hospital in my time of need.

I went here for a surgery when I was 12, they have a game room with an Xbox, if I hadn't gone there like 2 days sooner I would've had to have my leg removed. The food was good I think.

Amazing staff. My son was transferred from kizer to OHSU Doernbecher because his blood oxygen levels were very low (84-87%). They made him feel safe and found ways to explain the procedures to a very scared 6 year old. He was treated for pneumonia. "This hospital is waaaaayyyy better daddy" - My 6 year old.

A wonderful establishment with nurses and doctors who truly care. The best care we could have possibly gotten for our son. Very clean, very easy to get to each building and office, and lots of amenities and services for parents such as parking, food, entertainment, and support.

This hospital saved my life. Like actually. Because of severe medical complications that occurred from my eating disorder I was admitted to 9north. I cannot speak higher of this place. The nurses, CNAā€™s, and doctors actually were the kindest most understanding clinicians Iā€™ve worked with (Iā€™ve worked with a lot). Thanks to them I am off to college next week, able to help myself, and truly wanting to live a healthier life for myself. Thank you 9 north. I didnā€™t realize I could be helped and you proved me wrong. A special shout-out to Liz the nurse and both Dr. Sells and Dr. Jacobs.

Had my 8 year old son get a surgical procedure and they wouldnā€™t let my disabled wife be on video chat while he was waking up from the anesthesia. They also brought me in to see him wake up 11 minutes prior to being discharged & he was very awake and likely had been awake for a while before they let me go back. Horrible experience not allowing parents to be a part of recovery.

Best hospital in the world! They saved my little brother's life. He had an open heart surgery and a hernia surgery. It used to be our home away from home. I loved that they had a Starbucks in the Lobby (even though I was only 9 at the time). I remember the food being super good in the cafeteria. The sky bridge that went across to the Veterans Hospital was fun to walk across. Also, the tram was a big hit. Thank you to all the doctors and nurses who helped my brother stay alive and support my parents. My brother is 15 now, and is thriving as a happy, healthy, strong athletic.ā™”ā™”ā™”

The staff, volunteers, CNAs, and nurses all deserve 5 stars! The team in the north unit on the 9th floor are an awesome group of people! A few of them went above and beyond for my child, during a very difficult time. I'm so grateful to all of them. To the wonderful CNAs (some of them floaters) who kept my child company, and really acted as family, THANK YOU!! I hope you know how appreciated you are! Vanessa was especially a wonderful jem of a human, and went the extra mile, during a rough patch my child was having. All of you deserve 5 stars + a medal!! The star I deducted was due to a lot of confusion we had after discharge regarding referrals ect., and some boundary issues we had with one of the doctor's while there (which later got resolved). Overall the staff, nurses, volunteers and CNA's made it a more warm, comforting experience. Again Thank You!

We have to wait 8 1/2 months for my child to be seen due to a lot of miscommunication between Doernbecherā€™s and my childā€™s doctorā€™s office. Every time I call to resolve a problem then another issue comes up and this prolongs my child getting seen even longer! Absolutely ridiculous that medical staff donā€™t know how to process referrals and communicate professionally.

OHSU Doernbecher has been amazing for every visit. Not only have they taken the time make sure we understand everything, but they've gone out of their way to help the kids be calm and as happy as possible while doing what needs done. They've also always worked to have all our appointments scheduled close together and not have us wait for an hour or more between appointments during our visits (each visit usually being 2-4 appointments) and been considerate of our travel time to get there.

My daughter has regular check ups with the pediatric urologist, nephrologist, X-ray and ultrasound, and each time we are blown away with the staff from start to finish. Everyone seems to genuinely LOVE what they do. Iā€™m so grateful that my daughter is only struggling with kidney stones, but if she had any other serious ailments there is no doubt that this is where we would want her to bees seen.

Took my 1 1/2 year old son there for an inguinal hernia repair. All of the nurses and doctors were extremely informative and so kind to us. They made our son laugh and smile the whole time. They got his surgery done in 30 minutes!!!! AWESOME Hospital and very clean along with state of the art tech!

I woukd give 10 stars if it was an option. My daughter went in a week or so ago with a broken arm after being transferred from our local hospital. With the exception of one Dr along the journey (you know who you are), EVERYONE made sure they had our 5 year old's trust before doing their work. 2 nights ago, she suffered from minor complications from the cast, everyone from the MAs and RNs all the way up to the surgical team led by Dr Halsey (sp?) were absolute angels. So much love of the job eminated from them. They made everyone feel like their only priority. We went in thru children's emergency and spent a total of about 30 seconds in the waiting room and immediately got in to be seen. It was an 8-10 hour visit, but we never went more than a few minutes without care, or an update from the nurses. Nobody WANTS to have to take their child to the ER, but if you NEED to, Doernbecher's is the only place to go. Hands down. Skip the stop in Longview. Make the drive. (We went in at 0830 on October 10th 2022. Admin should check payroll records and give a hefty raise to everyone that helped 5 Y/O Ms. Wood)

Had a great experience with the CDRC clinic! Iā€™ve spent years having my concerns written off, mislabeled or rebuked by various pediatricians and education staff. Going into the CDRC clinic today was such a breath of fresh air. Three different doctors evaluated my 8 year old for a wide range of mental health and developmental conditions. They all were so warm, kind and thoughtful in their process. At no point did I feel rushed through - they took their time to discuss and look at every concern and possibility. In the end we walked out with an official ADHD diagnosis. Iā€™m so thrilled - ADHD has been mine and my husbandā€™s primary suspicion for a couple years now. Many a pediatrician had told me to be patient and my daughter would just ā€˜grow out ofā€™ her behaviors - others expressed concerns for conditions I knew in my heart were not the right fit. CDRC made me feel heard and validated. I am grateful for the kindness and support they offered my daughter. Many thanks to Dr. Kube, Dr. Greene & Dr. MacReady. I would highly recommend this clinic to any parent looking to get answers on how to better support and understand their child. Also, a shout out to Starbucks located right inside the Doernbecher main entrance! Iā€™m sure many a parent, doctor and kiddo appreciate this convenient location for refreshments, caffeine, snacks and treats.

Staff and specialist are great! They explain everything very well and leave me feeling confident that my child is in good hands. Only negative is that they are very busy and booked rather far out.
