I like the pool but I feel like it's over chlorinated. My eyes always hurt afterwards. There are a lot of really nice lifeguards there but there are a few that are kind of rude or like to flirt with the other girl lifeguards too much. Not sure which is it. Saw a health and safety inspector in the pool area with their street shoes on along with one of the board of directors in the pool area with their street shoes on and then they giggled when we said it was gross. Got some mixed feelings about this Y. But it's one of the only few places I can teach my child to swim. The women's locker room seriously needs a revamp. And the family changing room is very exposed with a big window facing the pool and really gross curtains that I don't want to touch. I feel uncomfortable changing there. The women's locker room headed to the pool area is really nasty like the floor stained so I hope but it's pretty gross and the locker is definitely need some help. I had a lady in there with me today whose stuff got locked in the lockers. They did get it open but it took a bit. 90% of the staff is extremely nice though.

2.5 ⭐ The facilities are ok. Nothing to remark on those, alright building, good selection of classes. I'm giving a lower rating because of cleanliness. Most of the classes that I attended are in the multipurpose room upstairs. The floor is always dirty! They host a youth program and then a yoga class right after. So the kids are tromping around in their dirty shoes, then I'm in there on my hands with my face on/near the floor trying to do yoga or Pilates and there is dirt, hair, small pieces of garbage stuck to my hands and feet when I'm done. It's gross! It would be nice if the staff ran a push broom over the floor in between classes!

My family just moved back to Washington and part of our "settling in" process was joining a YMCA. The absolute best thing about it for me is the Kid Zone. I can just drop my kids off and go work out, which absolutely blows my mind. The ladies who work at the Kid Zone are friendly and great with kids (especially my toddlers who are energetic and loud). Other than that, the facilities are updated, clean, and the staff and other members have been courteous and inviting so far. The only thing I wish they had was an outdoor space of some kind! Great place and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a family friendly gym.

The staff at the YMCA Briggs branch are so helpful, kind, courteous and efficient. My grandson and I walked in and immediately first off clean, the place is so clean next I walked up to the counter with my grandson and I explained that I'm low income and my grandson who's 17 has zero income and they helped with the application and processed it the same day and immediately we had our membership and we were able to use it. The staff were so helpful with every question that we had and continue to be helpful with anything at their YMCA Briggs off of yelm highway location. My grandson went upstairs to the weights area. Very clean, you would not know that there were people working out and sweating. I highly recommend the YMCA Briggs location off of yelm highway Olympia Washington.

Love, love this place. Everyone is so nice. Equipment is in great condition, pools are clean. The only thing that bums me out is they close the hot tub so dang early. I like to come after work and the hot tub was one the main reasons I joined.

Does leaving a review matter? Does anyone actually care? I've given so much money to this place only to experience major inconsistent hot tub times. The hot tub for me is a vital /necessary part of healing due to my back issues. I find it silly, I have to call ahead of time when I want to use it. This would save me a trip customer service advises. You don't have to worry about me calling or bothering a customer service person in the future. This service you sometimes offer is always a burden. I'm either waiting 30min past the time it's supposed to open or it just isn't open to use at all. The hot tub doesn't impact the majority so I don't expect change to ever happen. If you're reading this, get used to more disappointment from this gym. I canceled my family membership without any concern, questions, or comments from the rep. I'm not looking for a Dr. Phil response. Its nice to be treated like someone who matters to an organization. I understand now they don't see you as a person. Rather you're just a means to an end to them. Well good luck in your fitness goals, I hope you are treated better than I.

Come join us people. This is my happy place. We are a nice friendly environment and it feels like family to me. Other gyms I went to feel more like a prison setting and I hardly ever saw any smiles or small talk. You wont get that here at the Y.

I moved to Lacey from Tacoma, and I have been to YMCAs all over America. This location is just ok. The pool schedules do not offer enough Rec swim options to align with fitness classes. There is no steam room/sauna, and the rock wall is open late, not early. I might add the rock wall IS a wonderful feature! There isn't a lot for kids in the age range of 8-14 to do unless there is open gym without the other options because they really don't want to be in the kid zone. I signed my kids up for a cooking class. The teacher was wonderful and friendly, but my kids just sat and watched and were kind of disappointed. Desk staff are great. The aerobics room and weight room are good. The hot tub seems to ALWAYS be closed. I'm hoping for more in the future so my kids can enjoy some recreation time while I work out in classes. I won't cancel my membership because I enjoy the Lakewood Y and using the one downtown! It's awesome to be able to access so many facilities. This Y needs to be bigger to support the people inside it.

Doing lots of updates and upgrades. Place is getting more vibrant and friendly. Staff is very helpful, friendly and full of energy. My kids are involved in almost every program they offer at their age groups. Swim teachers are super friendly and patient. Lifeguards are very attentive. The martial arts program is great, and the teachers are very firm but kind, though for kids that are a little more sensitive to a firm personality it might be a little difficult, but MA is about discipline so it is to be expected that they have high expectations from the kiddos. The kids zone has amazing helpers, my shy girl feels very safe playing there with them. Overall I love the direction this location is headed, I've attended this location since i was on middle school, 2003 so it is great to see this location continue to thrive.

Pros: Child care, treadmills are newer which is nice. Cons: Weight room lacks a lot. Constant wait for machines and a lack of variety of machines. Wish there was more Olympic style weight options. Teenagers running around unsupervised being dangerous. Wish they would transform the upstairs multipurpose room into more weight room options.

New remodel/expansion. Not the biggest Y, but definitely a good size. Two pools, many workout options. Full service youth sports, activities, day care, etc. The staff seem to enjoy working there and present as helpful. The staff also get to know members and show a sense of community and belonging to us. The neighborhood/area is really nice.

So far I’m a big fan of the gym. They don’t have a whole lot of weight lifting equipment, however, there’s enough to get a good work out in. The facility seems pretty clean every time I’ve gone in so I don’t have complaints there. I do wish the kids care hours were more convenient, a 2 hour and 45 minute break seems long and during a core time that people could be getting a workout in. If the kids hours were adjusted, easily a 5 star spot.

Love the staff and kids zone. For any families who are one income/low income this gym is great with their membership price and everything offered for kids. Also the kid zone hours have been extended which is amazing, they’ve been offering a lot more classes for kids of all ages as well as classes for adults, they also offer birthday parties now.

We have been to the Briggs for open swim and have been treated so well that we then choose to become members. I especially appreciate the child care area. My daughter loves to play there and is always treated well. It makes it easier for me to make the time to get some exercise in.

I appreciate what Ashley does in teaching Chair Yoga. She helps individuals as well as aims for success of the whole class. Every session is different but I always feel better when I leave her class.

Briggs YMCA is a very healthy, positive, friendly place that is inclusive and welcoming to all members of our larger community. I appreciate all of the friendly staff members, the exercise equipment that is mostly top-notch and kept in good condition, and the strong community feeling.

The staff are always lovely, the facility is pretty amazing with so much to offer. My family uses the activity pool during free swim every week. It's become a cherished weekly family bonding activity. It happens to also get my kids super comfortable and confident in the water, to the point that I think they'll easily conquer swimming lessons soon.

This review is specifically for the aquatics program at the Briggs YMCA. Stellar. I simply cannot say enough good things. If you are looking for a place in the Olympia area to take your kids to learn to swim, this is the place. My kids have taken intensive summer group lessons, weekly group lessons, and private lessons. All the instructors are great. I have been particularly impressed with Aaron specifically for kiddos who are at the level 4 stage and learning to build stamina. Jackie (the aquatics director) and Anne (the aquatics coordinator) always reply quickly to questions and emails and both do a great job managing the program. Prior to taking lessons at the Y we tried a different program in the area and our Y experience is leaps and bounds better. There is no better place than the Briggs YMCA in the Olympia area to take your kids to learn to swim. Highly recommended.

We have had a wonderful experience with the YMCA swimming lessons. A few years ago, we enrolled our kids in swim lessons at a different aquatic facility in Olympia. Sadly, after almost 2 years of instruction at that facility, (including semi-private lessons) our children still could not swim. When we started swim lessons at the YMCA in July of 2023, my children could not swim any strokes or pass the swim test in the pool. Thankfully we were able to complete multiple week long lesson sessions with much success! By the end of August 2023, both of my children could swim multiple strokes the length of the pool and tread water! They could both pass the YMCA swim test by the end of the summer and by the end of September, both of them could pass the laps swim test. My daughter enrolled in the intro to swim team class three months after starting instruction at the Y. The instructors were wonderful and we could see the kids improve each week. We are very thankful for the Y and for their great team of instructors for teaching our kids how to swim and stay safe in the water. I would highly recommend the Y swim lessons to other families.

“Just call if you want to know if the rock wall is open “ is what my son and his father were told about the rock wall when they arrived on Thursday which is what the website says the open times for the rock wall are. Please update website if the days activities are available are incorrect. Also please post or notify members when the pools are closed or close to freezing. It was almost unbearable to swim in the other day and the employees just agreed it was cold. Lucky to have the Ymca but just seems like a little more pride could go into the services offered. It looks and feels as old as it’s been there. Just a little rundown

They take liberties without consent, do not like to answer questions, are unable to explain policies clearly and comprehensively. They layer "snarkiness" into their customer service as if it were frosting on a three layer cake. I will conduct no personal business here, only the "professional" business that is required by my job. An unfriendly place masquerading as a "family-friendly" place is an unsafe place in my opinion.

The staff were very accommodating and friendly. The instructor (Dan) provides the same level of attention to all of the students in the class and very considerate to each of his students' level of experience in swimming.

When attending swim lessons for your kids there is not enough seating, classes can be too crowded and the "family changing" area is always full. It was much easier in the morning classes in the summer to bring a 5 year old to swim.

  • 3/5 L F. 5 months ago on Google
It’s alright. Family membership with 2 kids is $100/mo. The youth enrichment programs are $10 for a 4 week class, which sounds cheaper but you still have to take into account the extra cost of the membership, but also doesn’t hit the wallet if your kid chooses not to go. There’s a good variety, from nature stuff to legos to rock climbing to ballet. Some times the classes are overcrowded. The kids night out is expensive for a couple hours. Wish the gym spaces/ flex spaces were bigger, it’s hard to stretch or do your own hiit without feeling like you’re in the way.

Awesome staff, clean facility and affordable swim classes. Every swim coach we have had was patient and caring. Thanks to their class routines, my daughters are becoming more confident and capable swimmers. We look forward to more classes at Briggs.

Great family gym! The childcare is fantastic. The gym is clean and very quick to communicate about what's going on it terms of events and classes.

They were pretty helpful. The facility seems alright. No sauna or hot tub and lots of kids so the other one is probably better if you don't have kids.

We love our local YMCA. As a stay at home mom with limited funds for daycare, I didn't know how to get a workout in after my baby was born until I discovered the YMCA has child care I can bring my baby to so I can get some baby free time while I exercise. Its been a game changer. They have a great variety of classes. I am super impressed by some of the more unique classes they provide like Tai Chi, NIA Dance and many others. The kids care is great, my baby always has a great time. We love the pool soo much as well.

Clean and modern, nice bunch of choices for movement. I did a MixFit class that was very professionally taught, very high energy. I saw a pool and a weight room also.

I was visiting out of town. I'm a swimmer, a lap swimmer, a synchronized swimmer, a dancer. What's not to love. Where there is water there is a renewal of my spirit, and a zest for life. Try dancing in the water, which combines two of my favorite loves. Dancing and swimming. Just add music into the mix (I don't know if they have music at this Y, in Sumner WA they do.) I brought my grandson. I didn't like their rule of proving that any child had to swim with their face in the water with side breathing, the full length of the pool or they were not allowed to cross the line into the deep end. He swims the length of the pool with his head out of the water. So do I. The next day I asked if he and his older brothers wanted to swim. He emphatically said no! The swimming rule limited the fun of his experience. The pool got crowded and there was less room to really swim. 😞 PCM

I enjoyed my membership here but ultimately didn't go to Briggs most of the time. 4 stars because there is no Jacobs Ladder, but that's just a nitpick for my preferences. Truly affordable family membership for Washington and Thurston County. For the price (or less) of a big chain gym like 24 Hour or Anytime Fitness, you can have a full family Nationwide membership. Great staff, great classes, and the climbing wall is cool although I never had the chance to use it. Would be cool if it was just open for public use all the time.

The staff has always been welcoming and attentive to any questions that I might have. We have attended family friendly classes and utilized the personal exercise machines individually and as a family. The layout is unique but not hard to maneuver. Clean female locker room and the bathing suit drier is pretty convenient.
