You can get better value for your money at other gyms in the area. If you don't need a pool, try Whetstone. If you need a pool, try the YMCA. Heck, sign up for both and you won't be paying much more than the Valley charges. A few negatives in particular stand out: (1) The facility prioritizes programs for children, especially in the swim area. Instead of having swim lessons start immediately after school, they run from 4:30p to 6:30p--right during the peak time for adults to swim after work. This wouldn't be a big issue if it just impacted the family pool, but they also close half of the indoor lap pool. They also close the outdoor lap pool during the colder months (I don't know why, since it's heated and fully usable year round). This means that every member who wants to swim after work crams into the remaining three indoor lap lanes. (2) They have, by far, the highest membership fees in the region. However, that money doesn't come with many amenities. If you want a towel service, they'll charge extra. If you want a locker, they'll charge extra. If you want to bring a guest, they'll charge extra. Sometimes it just feels like members are walking dollar signs. (3) Their hours still haven't returned to pre-COVID-19 availability, much less the 24 hour access that a lot of gyms in the area offer. Their cafe is open again, but closes at 6p--right in the middle of their peak traffic. To top it off, they'll be increasing their membership dues again in 2022 even though they still have reduced hours. (4) Like most gyms, during portions of the COVID-19 pandemic they allowed you to place your membership on hold. Unlike most gyms, they charged for the privilege of not paying them. I found this very problematic, because during portions of the pandemic they had very limited hours and programs compared to what they originally sold, but still expected you to either pay full price or a "holding fee." (5) Management isn't receptive to feedback. Instead of at least humoring you, they'll just say that if you don't like something you should find another gym. Fair enough, but before you pay a large enrollment fee know what you're getting into.

This would be a great facility if the owners were not so greedy. Even at $108/month and a $200 enrollment fee, it is $15 per visit to bring a guest. Even towels and lockers cost extra. Also, If you are interested in joining VAC they do not offer a day pass. It's a shame because it looks like a nice place, but unfortunately they are only concerned with their profits and not with being accommodating or even remotely reasonable. Save your money and go to Briggs YMCA. A way better facility at a fraction of the price. West Seattle Health Club, a comparable facility, charges $69/month and you can cancel anytime without additional costs/free guest passes.

Family used to be regulars here before we moved years ago. My grandfather was the oldest member for decades (John M). Really wish more facilities like the valley were available in our current city. Otherwise highly recommend!

It's an ok establishment. The gym could use a little remodeling. Considering membership cost. The members are a little uptight. Most of the staff are professional. Although my wife had a negative encounter with the front desk employee. The individual was rude and unprofessional.

2023 Update: Save yourself and just get a membership somewhere else. 2022 Update: We are still members and it seems things are a bit better. Most of the staff is engaging and pleasant. I havent gone back to the indoor swimming pool since the experience mentioned below. The place is hit or miss when it comes to customer service. The owner needs to invest in some service training programs for his employees. I've struggled with keeping my membership, but until someone else builds an equally competitive gym (with all the amenities), with better customer service, we are stuck with one option. Poor service examples and rude experiences include being told, three times in a row, by three different staff, to put my phone away while recording my child swimming after receiving staff permission to do so. I stopped after the first staff person approached me, even after explaining how I had asked and received permission, but they felt it necessary to explain to me the err of my ways two more times, in case I hadnt gotten the clue. It was embarrassing and still really ticks me off. Showing proof of marriage to my husband so we could have a joint account was the biggest ordeal I've ever had when it comes to account services. Pluses: The front desk staff is generally kind and friendly. The CAC staff are friendly and professional. The gym is clean and tidy. Maintenance staff are incredibly kind and hard working. We will continue to have our membership and expect the level of service provided. I am hopeful that some of the changes in customer service continue to ensure a consistent positive experience.

We had some issues with swim teacher turnover which led to some very lack luster classes. The facilities are solid overall, staff is friendly, clientele less so.

Nicest gym in Olympia. However, it’s overpriced for what you get. The facilities are old and worn out. They charge luxury prices for a Walmart experience. The staff is nice though.

I like this place a lot. While pricey, there is a lot of value coming from that money. Would love to see more weight belts in each gym.

Dad took me here as a guest. This is by far the best gym/athletics club that I have ever been to! I particularly love how they have at least 4 separate gym rooms with variations on equipment and set-up. The assisted pull-up / dip machines were totally new to me. I loved the special stretching machines. Yes, you should be able to do your stretches without special equipment, but it is lots more fun an motivating if you do have such equipment! If I lived locally, then I would join! Hope to get back as a guest again the next time I am in the Olympia area!

Describing the Valley in three words “terrible customer service .” Staff couldn’t be bother with paying customers questions or request. Many times I’ve encountered more than one rude receptionist. I avoid them whenever possible and absolutely dread every time I have to interact with them. During the winter months it’s extremely overcrowded which are always busy. Not as exclusive as it once was when it’s was first opened. Reservations are ridiculously restrictive due to the high volume or people wanting to using any tenis or pickle ball court If you can join other local Athletic Club in the surrounding area I would highly recommend it. You’ll thank me once you notice it’s without the ridiculously overpriced membership fees and overrated facility and it’s amenities. Customer service gets 1 star simply because this review doesn’t allow no star to post.

I've been looking forward to this review. The Valley saved my life. Long story short, I discovered I needed to incorporate health and wellness into my life before it was too late. The yoga and Body Pump instructors don't even realize the impact they have had and continue to have on my journey. (Read entirety) I'd like to tell everyone the Valley is overpriced, needs renovations, and has an unfriendly staff - so that no one finds this gem of a club -- but it wouldn't be true. Prices are flexible to meet individual or family members. There are a million things to try, and the expert staff is always willing to advise. The equipment seems modern and heavy. I work from home. I commute 20 miles each way everyday to get my Valley time.

Really enjoy our membership at the Valley, though we only use the pools! The locker rooms are clean and well equipped, as are the pools. Staff are friendly and responsive.

My son takes tennis lessons here 2x a week and has learned so much in a short time. The tennis pros are very good and they have a great program for youth of all skill levels.

Valley Athletic Club is amazing. It is clean and well staffed, and I continue to be impressed with this club. During the first covid wave, they put their members first. I don't know if people appreciate what that cost them. Shortly after things began to open up, I tore a ligament in my ankle and broke my toe on the other foot. They gave me a long medical pause on my membership without any hassle. This gave me encouragement to restart as soon as I was steady on my feet again, and getting back to my pool routine helped me heal. I have never experienced anything but respect and kindness here. The club is staffed with people who genuinely care, and I can imagine they take some abuse but they keep smiling and working hard to make the club a pleasant place for people to work on their fitness goals. I am often in the pool and have witnessed the life guards use the lift to help people in and out of the pool. They do so with dignity and cheerfulness. I know that empowers people with disabilities to return, and it brightens my outlook too. I think the VAC treats their staff well, because they generally seem to enjoy their work. I have seen what some inconsiderate clients leave in the showers and even cleaning that up is done with a friendly smile and without complaint. The humility I have seen doesn't seem forced in any way. I have a warm feeling toward all the staff because of what I have consistently experienced there. By the way, I have the basic membership but that makes ZERO difference in the way I experience the club. They treat everyone the same. The membership levels just provide people who want to do more things more access. I have attended pool classes and never paid a fee for anything except personal training and PT. Oh and their personal trainers? TOP NOTCH! Intuitive, inspiring, productive and caring. All that! Thank you VAC and ALL the staff, for making me and many other want to be there. If you are on the fence about joining the Valley, I hope my review will help you decide.

Only reason I did not give a 5 star rating is I do not use the club or its immenities. I have had various clients through the years I take there or drop off. They enjoy it. The staff and people I have interacted with were friendly and helpful. Food is great there, so is the coffee. Hair dresser takes amazing care of my current client.

This is a fantastic facility with everything you need to get your body physically fit and keep it that way. Jordan H. one of the personal trainers has done a awesome job of helping me get my mobility back so I can walk again without assistance. He is a guy that has a vast knowledge of how to help you improve yourself and takes great pride in doing whats best for the customer. The place is very clean and the employees make you feel like you are part of the family.

I visited as a tennis tournament participant as a first timer to the club. Extremely impressed from the moment I stepped into the facility and was promptly greeted, then asked for a sign in. The eight indoor tennis courts recently received an uplift to the lighting. It just took a little getting used to the angle of the glare and then it was fine. The changing room was very adequate. The snack/food bar was stocked with tasty choices. Lots of activities for the kids, adults, yoga, squash, racquetball, weights, conditioning programs, swimming....it has many amenities to please and service range of users. Overall, a very nice facility, certainly a gem for the area and beyond.

This centre has a bit of everything for everyone. Very family friendly and encouraging the kids to make exercise a part of daily life. Parts of the building are a little old, others new and fresh. The biggest appeal is the incredible discount offered for service members.

I think this is a great place to work out. The staff is very friendly and always smiles. They make a sad day feel better and are always welcoming and I feel safe to be myself. My only recommendation is they install a rock wall.

Our granddaughter’s preschool is in the same building. I understand the athletic club is very good. It sure seems busy when we pick up our granddaughter.

Excellent customer service and Great modern and well maintained clean equipment with plenty of exercise choices. A multitude of activities making this a top choice for any recreational need. Additionally, the main pool has an handicap lift for those who want to access the pool.

I love the Valley. I work out here often and there are so many options for classes as well as options of rooms to workout in. They have a childcare facility for people working out who have kids and their cafe staff is always very kind.

Great facility! It's always clean and the machines are constantly being wiped down and properly maintained. The outdoor pool is a great bonus. Only drawback is the price is a bit high.

This is a great fitness center. There are so many options making for well rounded workout plans. I have been training with Jerome for a year and can see great improvements in my strength and fitness because of what I have learned from him. Amelia’s yoga classes are the best I have ever taken. The staff is all supportive and welcoming and the facility is well maintained.
