By far the best gym in this area. Joey Guel is a top notch instructer in multiple disciplines. His knowledge is derived frome years of actual mma combat across the globe. You can effectively train in multiple striking and grappling janras. I've been training almost my whole life. I hate driving and wasting gas..... that said I pass 4 gyms that I know of to train at hammerhead

I recently moved back to Oly for work, and was really sad to leave my old MMA gym behind. I tried several other gyms in the area, but I didn't feel like I was home until I stepped through the doors at Hammerhead MMA. Everyone has been kind and welcoming, but I can tell that they are serious about training. As a female I'm used to being one of the only girls in the gym, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that lots of really talented women train here.

Learning so much. The instructor takes it step by step and makes sure to watch you and correct you. Everyone is nice and inviting, makes you feel a part of the team.

Awesome gym great instruction so far, and they make you feel like family. If your a beginner don't be scared the veterans will help you learn the skills of mixed martial arts.

Eh the Head gym owner claims to be a professional, about as professional as someone who slips through the cracks gets a job with Google. Guel has 9 wins/ 8 losses and watching his fight with Xavier, the guys very skittish and doesn't like getting hit. Which is why all of his wins but 1 is a TKO. I'm thinking this gyms shutdown now, website leads to no domain. It's like learning to play baseball by a coach whose been traded 6 times.

I love Hammerhead MMA! As a woman practicing MMA, it’s hard to find a space to train where you feel comfortable and welcome. Hammerhead MMA has given me that feeling since day 1! There’s actually a lot of women who train at this gym! I have learned so much from Joey (head coach) and made some awesome friends along the way. I would recommend Hammerhead to anyone interested in trying MMA for the first time or people who have been doing it for years already. There’s a wide range of talent in the gym, competition opportunities as well as advancement opportunities!

We participated in Hammerhead Mixed Martial Arts children Judo and Brazilian Jui Jitsu class. Kids had a great time. It was a constructive class, focusing on the fundamentals and still keeping it fun for the kids with lots of tumbling and rolling. Age range was from 6 years and up with girls and boys together on the mat, just the way we liked it! Definitely can recommend it to the parents out there!

I have trained at many different BJJ/MMA gyms and what makes this place outstanding is the friendliness and maturity of instructors and students, quality of instruction, and a complete range of skill level of training partners (novice to expert). Joey is one of the most experienced trainers in WA state and teaches technique in very effective and systematic way where one move flows to the next, and you get plenty of drills on a particular technique before moving onto the next. BJJ Black belts train here frequently and have different philosophies you can learn from.

I have been training here since 2019. I went to several gyms in Olympia and found this gym to be the best. The head instructor Joey Guel is very personable and has a unique relationship with each of his students. He also develops every student according where they are at and recognizes that everyone has different strengths. I happen to be lucky enough to find a gym where they teach leg locks. Leg locks is still considered a new concept in the BJJ community and Joey Guel happened to be a catch wrestler for many years before he became a black belt under Marcelo Alonso in jujitsu (leg locks is considered the bread and butter in catch wrestling). . What also stood out is that Joey Guel was an MMA fighter himself with over 25 MMA fights and he is very good about informing his students what BJJ technique is considered "high percentage " in a fight or what BJJ techniques he would not encourage to rely on (though he would also mention that it always depends on the individual). I read the reviews before trying this gym and they were absolutely right about the atmosphere. In my first week, I felt like I already been coming here for years, fast forward to today , this gym is my second home. This place is also offers Muay Thai with much emphasis on technique. Muay Thai is alot of fun and it is always amazing to see how far I have come to where I was originally.

🫀 2.5 ⭐ The facilities are ok. Nothing to remark on those, alright building, good selection of classes. I'm giving a lower rating because of cleanliness. Most of the classes that I attended are in the multipurpose room upstairs. The floor is always dirty! They host a youth program and then a yoga cla...

😐 Needs to step up communication and professionalism. This is the second time I've had my new member orientation canceled without notification. I understand that trainers get hurt but they have my contact information to notify me. It's disrespectful of my time, and they don't care.

🫀 Loved the coaches and the classes. However, their communication stinks when you have to cancel your membership. I needed to and had seven classes remaining that I had paid for. The app said I had until the end of April to use them and apparently that was incorrect. Front desk never let me know d...

πŸ‘πŸ‘ I’m so excited to have found Whetstone!! After learning that my gym was closing last week, I was on the hunt for a new gym. I tried one work out at a β€œbig box” gym that I will not name, and I wasn’t happy there. At all. Whetstone had crossed my mind many times over my 9 years in Olympia, yet I had n...

😠 Half decent set of weights, locker rooms way too small, shower and sauna never work, WAY TOO COSTLY for a poor gym membership. If you have to settle for a membership near you...then why not?
