My first time trying lamb. I’m a flight attendant, and when I have a layover in Omaha, there are usually lots of choices to chose from. However, today is July 4th, and all the food places are closed downtown. Except, International Cafe. I enjoy exploring new foods, but lamb and goat were a little out of my comfort zone. I decided to give the Lamb Plate a try, and really liked it! Not to mention, the place was busy. Lots of locals coming in and out, so I felt that was a good sign. The quality of food was really fresh and I loved the flavor! Omaha, you are very lucky to have a taste of quality Ethiopian food in your neighborhood. My order came with a little green sauce on the side, and it was delicious! Restaurants like International Cafe offer variety and a chance to explore other cultures’ cuisine. Glad I tried it, next time, maybe I will try the goat!

Delicious! The interior leaves a bit to be desired, but the awesome food and great prices swiftly make up for it. The veggie combo with injera was on par with the best I've had. The service was quick and kind. The menu has a few vegetarian options plus quite a few others. This place is definitely worth checking out!

I would've loved to give this little gem a 5 star review, but unfortunately I can't. The 🍗 portion of our dish wasn't really warm, the rice was warmer but still not hot like food should be. The gyro meat in our gyro wasn't really warm either. But we were starving {drove around all day looking for non-fast food. Everything was either closed or wasn't clean food} This spot popped up on my radar before we even came to the city so when we stumbled upon it being Halal food, we were ready to get it in!! A gentlemen came in after us and sat down to eat. His food was piping hot. 🧐🤨Consistency across the board is always 🔑. Hot food hot cold food cold. Okay. I have to update this review. The food made me sick. I was up all night with a stomach ache. I have to take away 2 stars. See. Hot food Hot Cold Food Cold!!!🔥❄️👍🏾😖🤢

Gyro with rice plate was very good! I took mine to go, so can't comment on the interior too much other than it felt like I was stepping into a restaurant in the middle east. Staff was friendly, my food came out pretty quick.

This restaurant will always have a special place in my heart. I live in the Miami, FL area, however my wife is originally from Omaha, and years back when I used to fly into Omaha to visit her, she had introduced me, for the first time in my life, to Somali/Ethiopian cuisine. We have a very small community of these phenomenal cultures back home in South Florida, so I didn't have any exposure to the savory and rich flavors their cuisines have to offer. Automatically, Somali food has become one of my favorite kinds of food, and my foodie journey has never been the same. I always order the goat with rice whenever I pay International Cafe a visit.

Great casual spot for Ethiopian food. I ordered takeout and the food was ready and hot when I got there. FYI they do observe the prayer breaks due to Islamic tradition, so if you have to wait a few minutes upon arriving just enjoy the smells and someone will be with you shortly! I ordered the Doro Wot and it was perfect, spicy and well cooked. I am already thinking about when I will be able to order again.

The building might cause some hesitation... But the food inside is unbelievable. Rarely does wanting to be lazy and just walk to the closest restaurant around pay off, but it paid off BIG TIME this time... Step outside of your comfort zone and make a trip here. This food is amazing.

We stopped by for some Ethiopian food thinking it would be similar to Somali food. We got the chicken suqar and lamb with rice since they were out of goat. The plates were pretty big but the meat seemed to make up less of the plate. There was some vegetable curry that made up most of the plate. The rice was a little too greasy for our liking and it wasn’t as aromatic as we had expected. We asked for the spicy green sauce which was delicious. I’m not sure if the two cuisines (Somali and Ethiopian) are similar or if theyre completely different. We weren’t as pleased because we compared it to what we were used to but it might be more delicious to others who like the cuisine.

Incredible food, good price, really laid back atmosphere. I enjoy going out to try new cuisine and this was my first time here. Before leaving the man behind the counter offered us hot sauce. Usually I’m not a hot sauce person at all but I still like to try them because why not. WOW!!! I’m absolutely hooked. 10/10 will be back

Simple building. People as so nice. The food is so good. Very affordable. Just the right amount of spice. This is what we picked for our Christmas dinner! So lovely. The goat was a bit grisly, lamb so tender, rice is to die for, and love the tea,

really good food, great tea, they lie through their teeth about prices and keep raising them, all the dishes went from 8-9$ then 10-11$ then 13-14$ and the drinks doubled in price without updating the menu, they have plenty of vegetarian options and plenty of good meats

Stopped here for a lunch, and was thrilled to find a local-style (i.e., NOT trendy and upscale) Ethiopian restaurant. We had the doro watt and the injera lamb. Both were quite well served, and we enjoyed each quite a bit. The lady in charge was very sweet, and took good care of us. Enjoyed this place a ton ...

This is by far one of my favorite restaurants in Omaha. This is a small family-owned business serving Ethiopian food. I eat here at least once a month. My favorite plate is the injera, which I like with the gyro meat , or lamb, or goat. The fried tilapia is also excellent. Meals can come with rice, or spaghetti, and is usually accompanied with a small salad. The flavors on each of the dishes is so delicious that I have often been tempted to lick the plate. Portions are more than adequate and prices are very reasonable! I have always left here more than satisfied. If you want a true international experience, eat here!

This used to be my favorite restaurant til they became inconsistent with making the food hot like it’s supposed to be. It’s always cold then warm than hot smh

I usually order their chicken gyro plate and love it. My only complaint is that it's not consistent like sometimes it'll have different vegetables than other times and sometimes it's not as good as it is other times but been going here for years and I will continue to do so, I've Just go with the expectations that it might be different from last time

Food was okay. Customer service was good, just bummed they don't have tzatziki sauce for the gyros.

Like most people are saying it may have an unassuming look, but the food speaks for itself. We got the Gyro and Injera with Lamb and both were delicious. This was an awesome find.
