I visited when it was fairly new, in the early 70s (I lived up the street). Back then it was one of the two "rocket parks" I'd seen, due to the tall metal structure that had steering wheels and gadgets to play with on each tier, the whole thing shaped like a rocket. Actually pretty cool. However, even within its first decade, there were cheesy gangstas hanging nearby. Just not worth it. Maybe try Wakonda Elementary's playground on the weekend at 4845 Curtis Ave, behind the building, off 49th St. That was always safer. Also, the address on Google is incorrect. It lands you halfway across a private acreage a few blocks east. The actual park is on 4384 Laurel Ave (ironically, this is where the sign is located, on the south entrance by the mini pavilion). There used to be a path to reach the park from Kansas Ave, as well. However, now it's grown over with underbrush a bit.
