Tried this place due to recommendations from Omaha food lovers. We got there right when it opened and got the peanut butter chicken and were not impressed. The chicken was so heavily breaded with basically no chicken (see pic). It was also very hard. The peanut butter sauce was good but with such bad chicken it wasn’t very edible. Disappointed because we were really excited to try this place. Overall wouldn’t order again. Edit: the staff was very nice. That’s why I’m giving 2 stars

Disappointed I heard only good things about this place. I was really let down by how mediocre it was. It’s just middle of the road American Chinese food. The sesame chicken is about 80% breading and syrupy sauce and 20% chicken meat. The fried rice is plain, no peas, carrots or other veggies. Nothing was impressive, but it was good enough to eat. The only positive is the sheer mass of the food. For $9 an entree you get a lot to eat.

Some really good high-quality, authentic salty fried combination rice... I love that it's salty and has Smokey hints, the food comes out piping hot and the beef is actually thoroughly cooked. The shrimp's poopy guts are all cleaned out which is awesome 😎. Lots of egg mixed in asking with beef, shrimps, and chicken. Everything was prepared in a timely fashion and the cost didn't break the bank in comparison to the serving size. This place could definitely charge more and still stay wide open. Definitely feel I got $20 worth of benni surf and turf just now for around $13. Definitely gave me 3X happiness 😊

This is mainly a take out place. No dine-ins. I ordered chicken fried rice and soup. The soup was alright, but the fried rice.... Smelt very burnt and the chicken was DRY. terribly dry. I tried picking them out and eating but couldn't avoid the smell . the burnt smell didn't do well for me I just couldn't have lunch. I called to inform them of my meal. I was told that's how they cook it. It's authentic Chinese. I've had Chinese in multiple places and never ever had "smoky/burnt" rice. There were pieces of cilantro (or some sort of green leafy pieces in the chili paste) The quantity was fine. The quality however was not edible for me. I don't think we could be their customers.

The food is great, but they recently changed their serving size and it is now much smaller. Shrink-flation, I guess. So while the food is exceptional, the prices are now about double. Yes, that's right. They cut the portion size in half. There are plenty of other places where you can get great Chinese food. Go there instead.

Great food, good service but they have moved to 95% take out, dining in was not the best like it used to be. But visiting Omaha I had to try one of my favorite places to get Chinese.

I used to love this place. Portions were huge and at a good price. Flavor was immaculate and they made sure they did it right every time. Even after the fire and reopening they still were doing an amazing job. I don’t know what has changed in the last year or so though because it has seriously gone downhill. Somewhat recently they decided to not allow spicy be added to meals and instead give you cups of chili paste to add in yourself. This is not a equal consolation as the flavors are still not right as I have to add it after the fact and COOK MY FOOD AGAIN. The chicken has gotten to be mostly crunch and minimal chicken meat. The sauce was runny whereas every time I have went before it was more of a thick sauce that stuck to the food. I really hate that I have to leave a 1 star review but Three Happiness has gone from the best Chinese food in Omaha to probably okie of the worst in my book. I don’t think I will ever go back again even if they try to make right. I wish someone would buy them and fix everything or just close the place for good as it doesn’t live up to its name anymore.

there was a bug in my food. i was told it was from the fresh produce, totally understandable. offered a refund for soup only, even though everything else was going to be thrown out due to lost appetite (from a bug in my food) manager is out of town and kitchen staff was left in charge and denied refund for anything else. i was told the broccoli in the entree is different from the broccoli in the soup so no chance of contamination in anything else. the guy at the counter heard my complaints and was very friendly otherwise.

this is not the same three happiness that I've been eating for 25+ years. for 30$, you used to get 2 dinner plates and two sides, now you get half a meal and 2 orders of grab Rangoon. the sesame chicken has red sauce. It's supposed to be brown! the fried rice was dry and clumpy with no veggies. there's no more wonton. the quality and quantity changed drastically. I understand inflation. This isn't that. they are trying to recover from the setbacks they had rebuilding. It's very disappointing. We are the ones who kept them going this long. they could do us better.

The peanut butter chicken was good, but after eating some of it it's pretty thick, I wish they had combo meals where I could choose two entrees and rice, but getting two full meals is way too much. Two of us shared one entree and we had a third of it left over, so the portions are very generous. Try to call ahead to order or you may have to wait 30 minutes for your food. The phone lines were busy every time we tried to call so then we just had to go in and wait for our food. Overall it was good, I want to try a different entree next time

Three Happiness has gone so far down hill regarding the quality of their food. When they were an eat-in restaurant pre-fire/pre-Covid, the food was always soooo good and so was the service. Now, not so much on either front. Food tasted old and didn't appear to be freshly made at all. Our entrees were inedible. Our Crab Rangoon hardly had any filling--a tiny dollop of filling and the wrapper was hard as a rock. (Sorry I didn't take pics to post). Even though we've been long-time customers for years and years, back when they had the hot pink punch-cards and even before they had punch-cards, we won't be back to order any more old, hard, inedible and dry food. It's too bad because they were such a great restaurant, an Omaha institution, if you will. We'll stick with Rice Bowl on Saddlecreek!

My review for my experience on 12/17/2021 Before I start my review, which is for the food only, let me just say that the young man that waited on me was very pleasant and polite, and that was the best part of my experience tonight. I used to go there before the remodel and the food was very good. We have eaten there many times and their food was ALWAYS very good. Tonight was the first time going back since their remodel but I had my normal expectations of good Chinese food. My order was for one egg roll, a 12 oz. order of hot and sour soup, and an order of the pork in hot garlic sauce. I arrived on time and my food was ready. I immediately drove home. On the way home, I was very surprised that I could not smell my food at all. Anyway, I got home and immediately started eating. My hot and sour soup broth had good flavor to it but that is all it was. Just broth. I'm guessing the person that dished it up did not stir it, as there could not have been more than one or two tablespoons of anything in the soup. It did taste good but it was only a little over warm temperature. My egg roll was about room temperature and not very flavorful. My pork with spicy garlic sauce was next. I opened the container hoping for the best. It was a very large portion, I will give them that, but the sauce was a strangely thick and gelatinous like nothing else I have ordered or received anywhere, and like everything else, barely warm. The sauce tasted like an extremely thick and very slightly spicy sweet and sour sauce of some kind. There were a lot of crunchy carrots and celery, but hardly any pork in that huge container of food. The pork that was in there was cut into the smallest strips that I have ever seen in food, and I could not detect even the slightest hint of garlic. It didn't taste remotely like any Asian food that I have ever had. Massive portion, but the food was completely BLAH! Based on my experience tonight, I will not likely ever go back, and I cannot in good faith recommend Three Happiness Express to anyone else. I would have to say that the owner or owners have ruined a great restaurant.

Ordered $45 worth of food for a dine in experience. Had to ask twice for drinks, forgot the sesame seeds on sesame chicken, had to ask for the soup that I ordered 20 minutes after the food. Food came out at different times. Might be a better experience as a take out order. Food overall was ok. Crab Rangoon was just a cream cheese wonton. Decent portion with good pricing. Fried rice was bland

I went in because the place I normally go to was closed for some hot and sour soup. This has been the only place that I have ever been to that made me want to go back within the same day to buy a second Qt of their hot and sour! It was full of flavor and just as spicy for those who love spicy food. The service was just as amazing too! They definitely have made me a believer in the managers word and have gained a new loyal customer! Thank you so much for that superior hot and sour soup!

Never disappointed no matter what I try. My partner always gets broccoli beef wherever we go but I like to switch it up and try something new everytime. Normally I avoid orange chicken at all costs because no matter where I order it, it taste super sweet and artificial. Three happiness has converted me. Their orange chicken has just enough sweetness but also a layer of savory almost smokiness that made it one of my favorite dishes to date. I would like to see a little more spice but that's just a personal preference. Their portions are awesome and so are the prices. The crab Rangoon were bomb as well I didn't try my partners broccoli beef this time around but last time I stole a bite the beef a as so tender and flavorful.

The food was horrible… What happened to this place? Your cooks are over cooking all of your fried items. Nothing was golden brown. Everything was dark brown and hard as a rock. You better talk to your cooks… They are ruining your business. Also, the fried rice that comes with your meal was a joke- no flavor whatsoever. It was like white steamed rice that had been tossed in a little bit of soy sauce just to change the color. We dined inside this evening- you need to get with the program… All the other restaurants are using actual plates and real silverware now, not the cheap plastic to-go utensils. Feel free to message me back once you’ve corrected these issues. - Zach McGuire

I ordered sweet and sour pork. They were out of pork so I got chicken. Was a pick up order. Got it home no sweet sauce hard chicken. Used to go here all the time with my mom. Quality went down hill in those 7yrs

I was really disappointed because this was one of my favorite places. But the food was in my opinion compared to what I used to get, not good at all, the crab ragoons I threw away and the chicken fried rice I don't know what to say. Except I'm sad about. 18 dollars for chicken fried rice and an order of ragoons. Not impressed. Workers were nice.. that was the best part of my visit to three happiness on Leavenworth street..

Went here based on the reviews and we weren't disappointed. Huge portions, quick service and they had actual hot mustard, not the nasty packets! The Three Happiness Chicken extra spicy was great. It was similar to General Tso's chicken with more veggies. They also had Hunan pork that day as an off menu special.

My go to Chinese place in Omaha! The food is always fresh and the service is great! I often get take out which is very convenient. The food is ready quickly. I've been coming to Three Happiness for a few years now. My absolute favorite thing on the menu is their Peanut Butter Chicken, which imo is best with the breaded white meat (special request). Must try in Omaha.

We order takeout and pick it up. We always order two entrées and a large quart of hot and sour soup. The bill is always $32. This is the absolute best hot and sour soup in Omaha. My husband gets the shrimp fried rice and I get the vegetable lo mein. Before turning vegan I used to get beef lo mein. The lo mein here is incredible. They also have the a REALLY GOOD KUNG POW Chicken, I haven’t tried it with fried tofu yet, but that’s how I am ordering it next time. My son loves the peanut butter chicken here, but you have to Really love peanut butter If you order this. The only thing I’ve ever tried that Isn’t great Are The egg rolls, neither my husband nor I care for them.

We catered for an event at UNMC and had amazing service and the food was delicious. Veg tofu lo mein had perfectly fried tofu and the chicken was so crispy with the perfect sweet sauce.

I ordered the orange chicken and it tasted like sugar and chicken and the chicken was so hard and crunchy I couldn't eat it my daughter ordered chicken teriyaki it was kind of sugary when it was supposed to be savory and her chicken was hard and crunchy and you couldn't chew it

Three happiness never disappoints!! The service for done in is phenomenal they treat you very nicely and have great recommendations. The wait can be a little bit longer but it’s to be expected when the food is as good as it is. I love the chicken lomein and the love wings my top go tos. Every Omahan has to have tried it at least once!

I had the peanut butter chicken. The flavor was amazing but the chicken was really tough. The portion sizes are great for what you pay. Service was very friendly. The crab Rangoons were not the best either. I don't know if they changed the recipe but I didn't like them. Mostly just cream cheese couldn't taste the crab in them.

I'm so glad I was able to eat inside once again. Ever since the fire back when ago, i just got takeout but being able to sit down and enjoy their food has been a pleasure. Staff was stellar as always, food tasty and plentiful. So glad to eat here again .

Hole in the wall of deliciousness. We got vegan black bean tofu, veggie fried rice, and some crab rangoon for my wife. The service was great, the food was great, the loo was clean. We'd go back next time we're in Omaha.

Never tried this place before, I ordered the 3 happiness chicken, first the pros... the sauce used for the dish was very tasty and the staff were quite nice. Now the cons... rice had no flavor, seemed old and maybe a bit overcooked. My eggrolls were for sure burnt, lastly the chicken used in the dish... man... awful... huge HUGE looking pieces of chicken that when broken apart revealed almost entirely breading and super small pieces of chicken... some of the clumps of chicken had no chicken in them whatsoever.... I wanted chicken, not breading in sauce.

This place is crazy good!! We have been consistently ordering the Hot Brazed Chicken since it is so fabulous. We decided to branch out and also get the Shanghai Noodles this last time and wow they were good. There was a yummy smoky flavor mixed in with the spicy kick. The noodles were paired with chicken, shrimp, beef, and veggies. We will definitely be ordering those delicious noodles again!!!

I’ve been enjoying the food here for over 20 years, and I’ve never been disappointed. Consistently delicious and always friendly. Thank you for being reliable with fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. A couple of my favorites include the Tachin Chicken and Hunan Chicken. Also, hands down the best egg drop soup you’ll ever have.

  • 5/5 lucas H. 1 year ago on Google
Only got the wings, but they were easily some of the best I've had in town. Very different style than normal chicken wings. Crispy, thick breading with a sticky sweet/savory sauce coating them. One order is just 6, but they are large.

Tried this place after seeing so many good reviews. I haven’t found any really good Chinese food since moving from the west coast and was hoping this would be it. I was really surprised by how limited the menu was, almost half of the entrees weren’t being made at the time I went. Both the veggies and chicken were drowning in a very corn starch heavy sauce that had almost no flavor. The fried rice was dry and bland and everything was pretty expensive for what you got.

  • 4/5 Anthony B. 1 year ago on Google
They recently shrunk the portion sizes so it's not the value it once was. The food is still good though and the staff is friendly. There are good reasons that this is one of the best restaurants in Omaha!

Ordered four entrees and wonton soup for my family to share at dinner last night. This was my first order in about six months. Food was ready as scheduled, but it was not good. One dish (cashew chicken) was inedible. It tasted like pork, was incredibly salty, and contained almost no vegetables (it was made of a few mushrooms and breaded/fried meat). The peanut butter chicken was so-so. The honey tofu was cut into chunks half the size of my palm. I was happy to pay the increased prices to receive the same quality food as previous orders. I was sorely disappointed.

My family and I really love this place. It has continued to hold a very special place in our hearts (and stomach's!!). However due to significant changes in the local economy and staffing and public health awareness and, well, probably a host of other things, sadly this restaurant as amazing as it is seems to be take out only now. The dining room is no more. I'm sure the food is just as great, just be prepared to call in and order to take home. It is unfortunate but understandable. We continue to love this restaurant despite the challenges that are beyond all of our control and we do not fault them one bit for it.

  • 1/5 Nic M. 1 year ago on Google
Ordered take out, got the Chili chicken..the crab rangoon had good flavor but very dense especially the breading. The chicken was incredibly dense and chewy an did not seem fresh none of it was hot or even warm not even to the touch, the sauce was very salty seemed as it was a soy sauce base with a sweet hint to it not the greatest for take out. I stopped coming here years ago and it reminds me exactly why I did.

  • 4/5 Austin B. 2 years ago on Google
First time here. The food is great, except for the Crab Rangoons had more garlic in them than an Italian grand mothers kitchen. If they ease up on the garlic we would love them.

  • 4/5 Mason W. 2 years ago on Google
Super good! Will definitely try again. Would recommend ordering over the phone before going. Due to Covid, take-out is the only option.

  • 3/5 HonorBoundNinja 5 months ago on Google • 1 review
The service was prompt and good. The food, is also good. However, I can't justify going there as my quick and easy take out Chinese food anymore. After getting two sweet and sour chickens, and spending $30; at a portion size that is big enough to maybe feed one small human each. I can no longer accept the portion sizes that are offered.their prices have gone up, and their portions have gone down. Nothing against the service or the food. But you have to choose, up the price or lower the portion size... not both
