Picture update: almost all of the showers are non functioning in one way or another. Either no handle to operate, they are unable to turn off, missing a shower head, etc. really state of the art! Check out the black mold and dust traps too! Another update: nine months since my initial post about showers not working and nothing has been doneā€¦ but donā€™t worry you can pay extra money to be a platinum member to get access to gyms with working showers. Update: Hey Genesis. How about when you say your going to fix the problems in your responsesā€¦.you actually do it! Wow what a concept huh? Still only three working showers. The only thing the managers do is sit in the their offices at the front of the building and already have some excuse for why things are the way they are. Zero accountability. Genesis better get ready for a lawsuit. The boiling hot showers that donā€™t turn off and run 24/7 have burnt me multiple times. They clearly donā€™t value their customers safety or health. The shower area is disgusting, the steam room smells like feces and mildew, and the hot tub always has a rim of sludge around it. This place has definitely gone way way way down hill since Genesis acquired it. Hope the health inspector doesnā€™t see this postā€¦

I just had my first massage with Kaye Smalley, our new massage therapist. I am just thrilled that she has joined the Genesis staff at my club, and I will be using her very often. I am almost 65 and Iā€™ve had a few massages in my lifetime :-). This young woman is truly exceptional.

Love that this gym is close to home and has amenities such as a whirlpool tub, sauna, steam room, pool. Also the staff here is amazing. I am however unsatisfied with the condition of this gym. The stair machines are always broken, whirlpool tub broken, no water, ac broken, showers are grungy. Not sure why there is no pride being taken in this gym but someone needs to fix it up!

These reviews have to be old. This place is very worn and the pictures on line are from when the place was brand new. I went to use the Ab machine the other day and it was broken, no sign just broken. The elliptical machines are an accident waiting to happen, I heard a "trainer" tell one of his clients that "this one wobbles but it's OK"! There are big buckets on the floor next to the machines that collect the water dripping from the ceiling. Only one of the showers works properly, the Hot tub jets are broken, the Sauna does not work, the steam room is filthy. There are doors on some of the lockers that are hanging by their hinges or off completely. The majority of the water fountains are inoperable. Hand soap, shampoo and conditioner are usually empty as are the paper towel dispensers. When you ask when they are going to fix any of these, you are told that they are going to fix them "soon". I was told yesterday that I have to pay $100 to cancel my membership.

Theme of this gym is ~broken~ Between all the toilets being nasty, Locker room in general disrepair, sauna and hot tub are broken 75% of the time. Again, could be super nice place. Clean up and do some Maintenance.

HEARTLESS SCAM now. Been a member at this gym for 5 years. Suddenly last year I started having mysterious dislocations and long term muscle tares from ordinary work outs. Even stretching would put me in bed for days. Turns out I have M.S. absolutely cannot do Anything without damaging my connective tissue. They refuse to let me out of my contract after all these years. Not even for medical or financial hardships. I can't afford my treatment, I'm being evicted and I can barely afford enough food to survive....yet every month they bill me. Every month it's a different amount also....no one returns any of my calls. Now I can not even drive there if I wanted to. They do not give a hoot about you!

The one on 132nd north of Center to me is not ADA Compliant. It has maybe three or four handicap parkings which are not convenient to the entrance of the building. The driveway is full of chuck holes where you park your car. It's like a one-way Street one way in and one way out and it's an impossibility to get across 132nd street. Two of the three times I use the pool it had been filled with ice cold water which made it impossible to do exercises. The ladies room a couple of the sinks are not in working order and the ladies have a hot tub but the stairs are inadequate both in and out of the hot tub. The restroom doors have broken locks. And the hot tub for everyone to use by the pool has been broke for 4 years. I have heard several complaints from other members who say they've been promised and promised and promised that they're going to remodel this Center. I was told that it would be this month I don't believe it. I don't know why there are no rules or regulations to oversee a place like this that is selling you something that they don't produce.

Iā€™ve been here before and the gym is great. I did a 30 day membership as Iā€™m in and out of town but come back from work. Iā€™ve done this at several different locations. The ā€˜general managersā€™ attitude was infuriating. First he said that the 30 day membership didnā€™t exist after I told him I did it 3 months at that exact club. Then he changed his story and said there is one for $105. Very shady and rude. He must be new because he was not here last time I came to this club. His entitled know it all attitude needs to change.

This would be a great gym if it had a bit of a face lift and was a little cleaner. Hottub floor is dirty, and can see particles skimming all across the top of the water. They need to lay out rubber floor mats in the pool area so the floors arent so slippery. Bathrooms are also very dirty most of the time. Staff always seems friendly and top floor with the weights/track are in better shape than the rest of the gym.

Iā€™ve been a member at this gym for around 13 years- first when it was Prairie Life, then The Athletic Club. It has gone downhill since Genesis took over. A few of the issues: broken drinking fountain, only 1 of the 5 stairclimbers is currently working, other broken machines that seem to take FOREVER to get fixed. They increase the number of members but then thereā€™s not enough towels. Itā€™s just constant and very disappointing considering the condition this gym used to be in. Iā€™m typically not one to complain but something needs to change. It was WAY better when it was Prairie Life and Athletic Club.

Lack of communication and even empathy for issues with memberships and in gym. Has happened more than once but recently being overcharged for something they couldnā€™t continue to provide. If they had done a courtesy and even told me one day sooner we wouldnā€™t have had the over charge. Spoke to 5 different people none of which even gave me their name over the course of 2 weeks. 2 people took down my number never even bothered call to even say they couldnā€™t resolve for me. 1 of which just said weā€™ll see and walked away. And no one can seem to tell me who I can specifically speak to about it. So of all the locations no one can help?

By far the worst experience Iā€™ve ever had in a gym. I paid to be there just like the rest of the members, but was treated poorly. A worker, Iā€™m assuming heā€™s the manager, was completely condescending and rude to me and my friends. I was attending the boxing work out room for the first time and after about 15 minutes the worker comes in and rudely says ā€œThe fact that the lights are off should be a sign for you to get outā€. First of all sir, you do not need to approach anyone that way, especially your paying customers. I had no idea that the room was ā€œclosedā€, mostly due to the fact the doors were unlocked and there was no indication or sign displaying that the room was ā€œclosedā€. This is the second issue Iā€™ve had with that same worker and feel as if Iā€™m being targeted. I will be pursuing this issue further and hope that this business learns how to treat paying guest with respect and dignity. Do not go to this gym, you will be very disappointed. Shame on your staff for treating us like this!

Been a member for 25 years, seen many take overs. Genesis is the worest. Most dirtiest menā€™s locker room I have ever been in. The dirt is piling up in the shower, vents are full of mold, no lights in the sauna, or in the steam room, only 3 showers work out of 12. I am very disgusted.

The staff and trainers at this location are amazing! They all put in the work to keep this gym running smoothly and I know some of the staff by name as I have been working out here since October. However, management definitely drag their feet when it comes to the facilities maintenance. I tried to give the benefit of the doubt and some time for the amenities this place has such as the showers, sauna, and hot tub in the menā€™s locker room to be fixed. The hot tub for instance only is in operation about 25% of the time it seems. Additionally, only about 3 showers of the 15 or so work correctly in the menā€™s locker room an issue that has been going on for months now. I would definitely consider these things before getting a membership to this place since there are locations with comparable equipment and working amenities at a lower price. I hope this gets fixed or something with upper level management changes but I do not see this happening in the foreseeable future. (I would also like to mention I have spoken with many other patrons who have expressed their concerns to management via email, sometimes multiple times, and nothing has yet to be done šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø.)

Good gym. Great staff. The members are very friendly. The men's shower room really, really, really, really needs a remodel though. UPDATE: The locker room and shower room along with the rest of the gym are going through a complete remodel right now. They are making good progress. I'm looking forward to the new look!

I recently joined this gym, primarily because of the amenities it advertises. Iā€™ve been disappointed with this location (132nd/Center), however. Both the hot tub and steam room have been down. The swimsuit spinner has also been broken. When I brought it up to the management my complaints were not taken seriously. There was no apology, nor an estimated time for when all the amenities were expected to be ready for use again. The womenā€™s restroom is also not tended to very well. I am not at all impressed by this place. The midtown location is much more appealing to me, and seems to have a more caring and welcoming staff.

This gym has no chain of command resulting in tyranny style of management. If there is an issue of concern, they will not give you a Regional Manager or Owner whom you can contact. Each gym is given the okay to make up their own rules. Case in Point: Brett who manages the 132nd & Center location made a unilateral decision that no person is allowed to watch ANY news channels while working out. His reason as he explained it is that news is a negativity, because people disagree over the political climate. I suggested that since there were more than a dozen TVs, why not set a Channel to Fox and another one to CNN giving clients the choice to watch what they chose. Every other club does this and experiences no problems. Additionally, there would still be at least 10 TVs for sports, food channel, sitcoms, etc.. This is the USA not a Communist country. I do not want a manager to regulate what I can listen to or watch while I am working out. For this reason, I will never join this health club as long as it is managed by individual dictators. It's too bad, because it is a nice facility.

The equipment is nice, and that's what matters for the most part. Outdoor pool is cool. Staff is nice. Place is clean. But literally everything else is dated, broken, or falling apart. This would be a fantastic gym in the '70s.

Genesis on 132nd & Center is a very nice gym with quite a few extra amenities you won't find at other locations (indoor and outdoor pools, showers, sauna, steam room, towel service, etc.). It is clean with a lot of staff on site. Most of the equipment is new, and everything is in working order. The only negative is it isn't very lifter friendly. There is a "no bag" rule, so if you bring a belt, lifting shoes, straps, wraps, braces, etc., be prepared to juggle all of that in your arms up and down a flight of stairs between the locker room and the weight area. Also, putting the weights down with any kind of noise will get you talked to, so you will need to control the negatives on your deadlifts. Forget about any Olympic lifts, even though they have three excellent Hammer Strength platforms made for it. It isn't quite as bad as Planet Fitness, but it is close. Also, these rules only exist at this location. No other Genesis does anything weird like this. This facility is one of the nicest Genesis locations I've visited. Unfortunately, the particular rules make it too inconvenient for me to lift here. It is a great gym if you like cardio, classes, pools, and don't plan on picking up anything heavy.

Signed a 6-month contract for my teenage son. Called today to see when it expires, I was told it expired yesterday but rolls over automatically into a month-to-month situation. And that I need to come in in person to give them a ā€œ30-day written notice.ā€ WHAT IS THE POINT OF A CONTRACT? It is worse than an apartment lease. I donā€™t even personally work out here, and now I have to take time to go into their facility to cancel. I asked where I signed this as I signed up online. It took the site manager a good 45 minutes to doctor up some forms and send them to me. None of them containing my actual writing. On top of this, three months ago, I was charged a $58 ā€œmaintenance fee.ā€ This is such a racket. I will never be a member here and will stick with the YMCA, which as a nonprofit doesnā€™t squeeze money out of their members through shady fees and contract extensions.

Somehow keeps getting worse. If you want a drink of water, you've been out of luck for at least a year. If you want to use the dry sauna, I've only had it reach the proper temp once in the last year. If you want to use the hot tub in the men's room, it hasn't worked for a few months. The hot tub by the pool jets' do not work either. The showers haven't worked properly since Genesis bought the place, and worse... since you can't close the faucet it wastes gallons of hot water in a min. If you want to use the location on 102nd they said it's 5$ per visit. I honestly don't know how the place is still in business. And then they have the audacity to raise rates. Typical corporate where management takes all the funds instead of putting it in the company? If you only use free weights and resistance bands with no amenities, this is your gym.

The childcare at this specific facility has gone downhill from what it used to be. Iā€™ve been exploring new options as I donā€™t feel comfortable leaving my children in the child care facilities anymore. My childrens safety is my first concern. Thereā€™s been a lack of professionalism with the staff when Iā€™ve addressed theses issues. If youā€™re exploring gyms and your first priority is childcare I would look else where.

This gym is truly starting to become such a joke. Weā€™ve been enduring construction for over six months. There are four treadmills available and today when I came in - those were all not working. I pay $100+ a month and for whatā€¦a barely functioning facility with no showers, one working sink in the womenā€™s locker room and less than 20 functioning pieces of cardio equipment. The hourly staff is nice enough - which is the only reason Iā€™m finding it in my heart to leave two stars on this review instead of one. Why not do construction in phases instead of all at once. Iā€™ll be cancelling my membership here shortly.

The pool is disgusting. It is constantly full of hair, dirt, bugs, bandages, you name it (I saw a legit clump of hair the size of my fist the other day). The chemicals are consistently unbalanced which make for a nasty chlorine smell and extremely cloudy water. I can't speak to how the staff is, I've only heard about 20 words from them since I started going 3 months ago. Only giving two stars instead of one because I haven't used anything in the gym besides the pool and locker room. So I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and hope the rest of the gym is better than the nasty pool. I plan to look elsewhere for a place to swim.

I would not recommend going to the 132nd and center location as the gym is very poorly run. The GM is a liar and a snake. They have charged my friends for a few months even after they cancelled and would it do a refund of their money. If I could give a negative star review I certainly would. 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING HERE!!!!!!!! You can find a better gym and cheaper at Vasa off 144th and center. You can pay as little as $10 a month rather than Genesis inflated price of $50-$60-$80 a month. Go somewhere else!

  • 3/5 Katie P. 6 months ago on Google
Ive been going here for 2 months now - great location and close to home. I am very excited for the renovation as the entire gym is outdated, run down and dirty. I have confidence this will improve once complete...however, it doesn't matter if the gym is up to date or not if it is not maintained. When I signed up, I specifically asked how often the equipment and overall space was cleaned. I was told all equipment is cleaned multiple times a day. I have gone various days at many different times - and never once have I seen an employee cleaning (nor the other members after they are done). Today, I used a handful of machines and cleaned it before/after each use - when I was done, my towel was black. They replenish the towels and rely on members to clean up after themselves which, in my opinion is fine, but that must be communicated to the members bc they are not doing it! If I do not see a change, I will cancel after my 6 months. I understand finding help is tough right now. Planet Fitness is spotless because they properly communicate to their members that they must wipe down machines - feel free to go that route Genesis! Please do something!

  • 2/5 Clare J. 1 year ago on Google
So first off, they don't have a lot of equipment, and they don't have a lot of duplicate machines, so you have to wait forever to use a machine sometimes. They don't keep this location very clean, there are bugs in the bathroom, there are dustballs around the workout equipment and the water from the machines takes like diluted pool water. There pool is not kept very clean. There is always stuff floating around, and there is sand on the pool floor. In the hot tub there are literally piles of sand, and the hot tub is literally as hot as boiling water. It's so hot that body never gets used to the temperature so you can only spent 15-20 minutes in there tops, and while you're in, it's so hot that you can't really relax. The main reason I joined genesis was for the pool because it's one of the main ways I exercise. I constantly run into the issue of no available lanes, which it is summer time so I understand that it does get busy, however what upsets me is that there is a swim class around 7pm. The most people that I've seen in the swim class at once was 8 people, yet the instructor decided that 8 people is enough for them to take down a lane, during the most busy time of the day even though they have the whole free swim area to spread out. I have talked to the managers here, but this issue still happens. So if you are planning to swim between 6 and 8, good luck.

One of the friendliest front line staff. It makes a huge difference. Thereā€™s 2 other Genesis in my head that are just rude and I wonā€™t workout there. Iā€™ll actually travel so Iā€™m not intimidated/ignored by staff.

I started coming to this location last summer, because of the pool. It was the least convenient of the OMA gyms, but the facilities and the pool in summer are what got me coming here. There renovated the men's (and I'm assuming women's) locker room and got rid of some machines and organized the others. Overall, this location has the nicest staff and seems to be the one to utilize.

Canā€™t do anything in this gym. No calf raises on the stairs. No deadliftā€™s. Donā€™t refill glucose levels with a quick snack. Donā€™t take gym bags upstairs. Basically, this location is a planet fitness for the middle class. Only thing missing is the free pizza and lunk alarms. Apparently the only thing you wonā€™t receive feedback for is not re-racking your weight. Basically, no matter whatā€™s going on, the staff always has something to say. Iā€™m glad there are multiple other locations. Never had an issue with any of the others.

look the gym itself is nice and I've been enjoying it since the f street genesis closed. I've been coming on a regular basis and the staffs usually been pretty awesome, I usually take my family to go swimming like we have been doing ever since I hopped over on their black Friday deal last year was told they matched my family plan at my other gym pricing and all, it was an awesome deal and I took it. I've never had an issue with bringing my family until tonight the guy that checks us in all the time decided to raise an issue because apparently the guy that signed me up didn't list their names on my account(never been an issue before), then proceeded to throw him under the bus and blame it on f streets poorly run management. This is not really my problem I'm just the customer. So I proceeded to talk with the manager(I'm assuming) about getting it sorted out, and she gave me the runaround about it and was quick to offer to add them on for more money seriously?! the deal I'm supposed to be under now was supposed to have them already on it and I get charged the price matched rate of my previous family plan. Why today of all days they just randomly decided to raise issue baffles me, I'm literally there 4-5x a week. The lack of communication here is extremely annoying!

More visible and readable towel baskets. New paint to liven up the appeal. Update the signs with fresh colors. Basketball court needs a shade from the sun. It is hard to play with sun in your eyes. Overall. This Gym is Excellent 5 Stars!

I've been a member of the facility at 132nd and Center for 13+ years. Been through three different owners and yet the staff and facility are still amazing. Lets see how Genesis Health Clubs treats its members and handles all of the upkeep of the equipment. I'll post another review in 6 months to a year with an update.

Nice to cancel your membership when it was the athletic club. Then they get bought out from genesis health club. They they start charging your account agian and won't pay you the dues back. So here is a hint. If you open an account for you family. Make sure your specifically cancle them even your 6m month old son at that time or they will charge you 50 bucks a month and say well it was still on the same bank account but you only said close your accounts.....like for real my 6 month old son is going to go to the gym. My wife can't even work out. Then you will show them the emails showing you cancled it and they act like it was only yours. I am in the process of talking to corporate now about how this was handled.

This is your club...if you want a place that is too cheap to fix stuff and for some reason just can't provide a basic clean of the locker rooms. I was a member of PLC years ago, and have been through this ugly transition...this is nowhere near where PLC was even three years ago. Sad. I wouldn't recommend genesis to my enemy (if I had one).

This club is awesome. All of the equipment is brand new. Very clean facility. Seems to be a very busy location for Genesis.

I used to belong to PLF. Left for 1yr at another club. Rejoined and found out Genesis had reactivated my account, without my permission, back in July 2020. Hot tub at 132nd & Center needs water and a good cleaning. 84th & Q needs updating.

Large crowds and several of the managers not very friendly. I'll never rejoin.

Expensive, family of four would pay $141 month + tax. And after 90 days pay maintenance fee $45 times 3. Total almost 2k a year. Great swimming pool and locker rooms. TV's are too small during exercise. Used to be a member for years.

So happy that Genesis purchased this health-club! It makes a wonderful addition to avaliable gyms in the Omaha metro area. I love the amenities, cardio room, courts, indoor/outdoor pools, weight room setup, but especially the spa-like feel of the hot tub & saunas in the locker room. Arguably my new favorite Genesis location.

Used to go here under different management, and under Genesis - it's gotten much better than it was. Definitely gonna be a regular here. Workout here. Definitely worth your time.

Am very disappointed with how the club is now maintained. Showers are dirty and they are doing nothing to fix the outdoor pool. A bit concerned because the people who come from other genesis clubs say we are way cleaner than theirs. I could go on but will stop with this.

Horrible Management, Brent Bradley is very unprofessional. I came in to sign a cancellation paper and they ā€œlostā€ my paperwork and made me return and pay a fee otherwise they were going to still charge my account. Would never recommend this place or location to anyone. Very disappointed especially when I came into the location and he refused to speak with me. I would not even give them a 1-star review.

My favorite location of the Genesis clubs in Omaha. Friendly staff, modern facility, and overall a great place to work out.

It isn't like it was in 2015. Lockers space has increased but locker quantity was cut seemingly in half. Lots of the long time upper staff seem to have left which is a shame. Hours are also very hard to work with if you are primarily only able to workout late in the night. I loved it when they were open till 12am.

The instructors here are really great. Classes keep me fit and smiling. Facility offers everything. Two pools, all sorts of machines on two floors. Walking/running track. And it is CLEAN. A great place to start or end your day or get a lift in the middle.

So we were happy with the upgrade and remodel at first. Tried another gym amd needless to say we are back. Can't beat the price for what you get here and how nice and clean it is.
