A small modern and very well presented museum. Lots of interesting historic I formation. Informative polite staff who are very willing to answer your questions. We'll worth a trip. Not too big as to overwhelme you with I formation.

Free entry, good collection of exhibits showcasing history of Oman. Good photo opportunity, multiple entry n exits available. A mini amphitheater also exists. Toilet was locked-probably meant for staff only.

This is not so big museum but it's a gem. We totally enjoyed it there. The sitting place under the tree was heavenly. Cool breeze from the sea was mind blowing weather. Although no one was there, gate was open, we went inside, but lights were off, couldn’t find switches to turn it on. Recommend if you have enough time in Muscat.

The museum is located above Muscat Modern Gate. This museum has an amazing view which you see through the broad stairs leading to the museum’s gate. The Museum tells Oman’s long history, and focuses in particular on the history of the capital, Muscat. It also provides an explanation of the Falaj irrigation system Oman is famous for, in addition to Oman’s distinctive architecture, whether in the construction of niches in mosques, halls, doors or wooden arches. This museum takes the visitor on a journey through the various stages of development and growth of the city, from a commercial port to a prosperous capital, and stands witness to Muscat’s relics and history.

The Muscat Gate Museum is a small but worthwhile museum located in the old city of Muscat, Oman. The museum is housed in the original gate that once separated the old city from the modern city. The exhibits inside the museum tell the story of the history of Muscat, from its earliest days as a small fishing village to its current status as the capital of Oman. The museum also has a number of exhibits on the traditional architecture and culture of Oman. The museum is open from 8am to 14pm daily and admission is free. The museum is located on Al Saidiya Street, just a short walk from the Mutrah Souq. Here are some of the things you can see at the Muscat Gate Museum: A model of the old city of Muscat Artifacts from the Bronze Age and Iron Age Weapons and armor from the Omani military Traditional Omani clothing and jewelry Photographs of Muscat from the past Information on the history of Muscat's water supply The Muscat Gate Museum is a great place to learn about the history and culture of Oman. It is a small museum, but it is well-curated and informative. The museum is also free to visit, so there is no reason not to check it out. Here are some of the pros and cons of the Muscat Gate Museum: Pros: Free admission Well-curated exhibits Informative staff Convenient location Cons: Small museum Some exhibits are in Arabic only Not as many exhibits as some other museums in Oman Overall, the Muscat Gate Museum is a worthwhile visit for anyone interested in learning about the history and culture of Oman. It is a small museum, but it is well-curated and informative. The museum is also free to visit, so there is no reason not to check it out.

Fantastic museum. Free to get into, gives a good insight into the history of the forts of Muscat and how Muscat developed over the years. Well worth the visit. There is only one sign post for it off the main road so look carefully for the car park. It’s a turning right about 300 m up the road, it’s at the side of a mosque and next to the cemetery. It’s only a small carpark so be alert to spot it.

Muscat Gate which is located after a couple of minute drive from Mutrah Corniche and just before the most important area in Old Muscat where you can see Al Alam Palace, National Museum and other important buildings. Muscat Gate by itself contains a museum inside it which you can go and visit at the opening times : Sunday to Thursday from 8 am to 2 pm the Gate itself is a place where you can visit and enjoy some beautiful spots as well as views from top. walking through the stairs and watching the surrounding houses and villages of locals who lives there for so many years. The gate used in old days to prevent citizens from entering Muscat (Opens in days times and closes at night) as a security gate. However, now it is one of the most important and beautiful landmarks in whole Oman. I like going there to spend some time enjoying the history and feeling the beauty of Oman and its landmarks which makes this country loved by its people. please let us know your opinion if you have visited the place and if this review was useful to you. insta: @khrosi

We unfortunately arrived 5 minutes after the museum had closed, however the gentleman who was working today (21.11.23) was one of the nicest, kindest people we have ever met - So we'd like to say thank you to him for his help, chat and absolute kindness! :)

It has nice ambience for evening walk/family outing ...... But we cannot access the museum in the evenings/weekends/Public holidays, as it is working only on weekdays from 8am to 2pm...... So we may have to take a day off to visit the places which are accessible only on weekdays (we have many places like this in oman.... esp forts and museums ....where expatriates cannot go on holidays)

This was an okay stop, but not really essential. You'll pass by a lot of these kinds of gates when driving around Oman. If you do stop by the nearby neighborhood and park to walk up the gate, the view is okay... mostly because it's of the highway and some of the bay area from where you can stand. I did not visit the museum as it was closed when I went. If you do want to visit, as you pass under it going west to east, look for the next turn-off to the right and park somewhere in the town-area to make your way up the stairs and onto the "top" of the gate.

Wonderful museum which houses many historical photos and facts about oman. The only problem with this museum is the timings. It opens at 8:00 or 9:00 am and closes at 3:00 pm. Friday closed. The timings are approximate. But i remember feeling very bad for such a good museum. It being a tourist spot with such good material on display, it should work in the evenings and especially on holidays, which would allow more footfall. And many people are not even aware that theres a museum located in that secret spot. They think its just a bridge. Very bad for a wonderful place.
