One of, if not the nicest cocktail bars I've ever been to. The drinks and the atmosphere are absolutely incredible but, most importantly the staff made the experience even better, they were incredibly friendly and very helpful. I couldn't recommend this place any more it's a must if you're ever in Brugge :)

This is a fantastic bar! Great cocktails, both classics and own twists. Lovely people behind the bar and a cozy traditional-modern atmosphere! Highly recommended, fair prices as well!

One of the best cocktail bars I have EVER been to - and I've been to a lot, all around the world. Big thanks to Dieter & Shanna for making me feel so welcome, as a single lady at the bar. And if you like sweeter cocktails, then the Lemon Meringue is pure perfection!

Such a beautiful bar! Great variety of delicious cocktails! Also, Dennis (if I'm spelling his name correctly) was an amazing bartender/host ! He made us feel at home and he made sure that our cocktail choices fit our tastes and needs ! A must visit bar with high quality standards that exceed expectations! Congrats to the owner that offered Bruges this gem!

What a great experience. The cocktails are amazing! The decor is exactly what you want in a cocktail bar. The attention to detail is evident everywhere you look. From the custom stamped ice, to the amazing artistic menu book, and the elegantly garnished cocktails. But the best part was the amazing staff. Sitting at the bar, watching Dieter the owner and bartender, make beautiful drinks while exchanging life stories and the occasional cocktail recipe. This was the highlight of our trip. Can’t wait to come back someday. Thank you Dieter and Shanna!

On any weekend trip to Bruges, Groot Vlaenderen is one of the highlights. Everything fits here! Ambience, service and especially the drinks! Simply the perfect place to have a "few" drinks after a restaurant visit. The bartenders are also able to prepare any drink, even if it is not on the menu.

Summary: Groot Vlaenderen is a must-visit for cocktail enthusiasts, offering perfectly balanced cocktails and a warm, engaging experience. Detailed Review: Seeking a place to pass the time before our dinner reservation, we stumbled upon this charming cocktail bar. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm smile by the host. Opting to sit at the bar, we were fortunate to have Dieter, the owner, as our bartender for the evening. Our shared love for metal music instantly connected us, creating a friendly and personalized experience. Dieter's expertise in mixology shone through as he crafted our cocktails. Each drink was perfectly balanced, showcasing his dedication and mastery. It was a refreshing change from the often disappointing, unbalanced cocktails I've encountered in the past. What truly set Groot Vlaenderen apart was the engaging conversations we had with Dieter. His passion for his craft and genuine interest in his guests made us feel like we were among friends. It added an extra layer of enjoyment to our visit.

We came here for a short visit and were very pleasantly surprised. The service was friendly. The decor and atmosphere was elegant and classy. There was soft music playing yet we could converse with one another comfortably. The drinks were delicious - we got the I am Groot and Cosmopolitan. We were also offered some snacks on the house which was a lovely little touch.

A can’t-miss cocktail experience. Dieter, Shawna, Dennis and Stephanie are wonderful bartenders with lots of enthusiasm for drinks, hospitality, and creating an easy, comfortable atmosphere for everybody. The drinks themselves are perfectly made and presented, and reasonably priced for the quality of the experience. Extremely cozy and classy interior, and in a monument building with a lot of history. If you’re feeling bold, try a pickleback shot with Dieter’s homemade juice — sounds weird but you won’t regret it. What a cool place.

Wow! Intimate, stylish and very very cool. The staff are super friendly and happy to help you find the right drink. We ordered 6 cocktails during our stay and all were excellent. The Zombie and the rum daquari were standouts 😊 Demographic was really varied which was refreshing. Okay be warned you are looking at spending 12-15 euros per drink which is pricey even for London standards but it was worth it. Plenty of room to seat a good crowd but it never felt cramped.

Where to start, firstly the decor and ambience of the place is breathtaking, you are welcomed into a beautiful dark warmly lit bar. You are warmly greeted by an array of fantastic bar tenders and if you're lucky a lovely owner. Me and my partner arrived in Bruges on a Friday evening and looked to google for a cool cocktail bar, lo and behold we came across Groot Vlaenderen a quirky modern cocktail bar with great reviews (all justified.) As soon as we arrived we were pleasantly greeted and seated, the hosts are 10/10 a special thank you to Dieter, Shanna and Dennis for making us feel ever so welcome. The cocktail menu is brilliant and they have a few fantastic Japanese whiskies on the menu also. All in all it was a brilliant visit and really kick started our trip to Bruges on a high. Thank you to all the team at Groot Vlaenderen if I could rate you a 10 I would.

I had a lovely time at this bar on my own, my drink of choice was a Paloma. It was the perfect end to an evening of wandering the streets and taking in the stillness and beauty of Bruges after dark. The bartenders were attentive to everyone but made it a point to talk to me and I have not forgotten how nice they were. Absolutely recommended and I hope to return in the winter someday.

I can’t believe I haven’t done this before, I would have sworn I’d left a review on here, after all, we’ve been coming here since our honeymoon 9 years ago. Where to start…. It has always been a welcoming atmosphere where you can interact with the staff as much or as little as you like, the bar is suitably lit for private romantic spaces as well as more open gatherings. The drinks are nothing short of spectacular, with regular menu updates (see pics). Want something that’s not on the cocktail menu? No problem the staff a very experienced and can mix any drink my wife and I have asked for, although we love to try new things, but every now and then, I just like a Dark n’ Stormy, which, for me, is perfect here. The staff and owners are super helpful and friendly offering advice to newbies (as we were once upon a time) about which cocktail we might like to advice for places for dinner. Our yearly anniversary visit in Bruges would NOT be complete without at least one evening adventure ‘cocktailing’ in Groot. We’re already missing it & counting down for next years visit (Hotel Is booked:)

An absolute must visit in Bruges! We had an exceptional experience last night choosing to pop in for a couple of drinks before dinner. The interior is dark and moody and filled with a beautiful backlit bar. The service was first class and we spent almost an hour chatting to the friendly bar staff, sharing stories and getting recommendations. The quality of the drinks were excellent with Stacey proclaiming the best espresso martini that she’s had and the beer recommendations were on point too. Just a fantastic experience👌🏻 Also with noting that if you visit their website there is a recommendations section for everything else in the area and definitely worth checking out. Thanks for having us!! ♥️

We had some lovely cocktails here. The menu was interesting, a mix of classics, interesting twists and originals. It was a nice relaxing atmosphere. My girlfriend loved the “I Am Groot” cocktail to start off with, followed by “The Last Word” which was fantastic! We will be back.

Very nice cocktail bar. Friendly staff. The menu is a piece of art with a theme in illustrations. Highly recommended. Not the lowest prices but definitely worth it!

Exquisite interior. And surprise! The drinks match the mood. Nice place. Depending on where you sit you can make your stay feel even more vip. Lots of cosy corners. Although it's liquor centered they also have really nice non alco beverages.

This cocktail bar is SUPERB. They invest in good spirits (base) for their cocktails and the variety available is absolutely insane. The owners obviously know and love their drinks and it really shows. The balance of the diffrent ingridients is absolutly spot on and the establishment is stylish. Go here, you won't be disapointed.

Cocktail Bar Review. Groot Vlaenderen 🍹 On the train to Brugge we got chatting with a lovely couple who said that Groot Vlaenderen was an absolute must, if you like cocktails (which I definitely do). It’s a 6 minute walk from the Grote Markt. Very centrally located. There was a lot of construction on the street in front at that time. I wouldn’t suggest wearing heels in Brugge at all (so many cobblestone roads) but definitely don’t wear them if you’re headed for a cocktail while there’s construction. So much dirt and uneven ground- wouldn’t be good. We immediately fell in love with this place. From the moment we walked in we felt relaxed. Eva welcomed us at the door and was so friendly and energetic. We had a seat and started to look through the extensive cocktail menu. They’ll also will make you anything you want, if you don’t fancy what’ you see. They ask you the flavours that you like, any of your favourite drinks and guaranteed it will be the best one you’ve ever had. I had one of the best cocktails I’ve ever tried, (Lemon Meringue- Licor 43, limoncello, cream, lemon) at the suggestion of Eva. It was her favourite and rightfully so. Absolutely delicious and so creamy and had a cute flower on top. After talking to the bar tender we found out that Groot Vlaenderen got its bar license in 1879, but it most likely was a bar many years before that and even pre-prohibition. It felt surreal to be seated in a place that had been an establishment for so long. What a great find. We had some meaningful conversation with some locals and truly enjoyed ourselves here. I would definitely suggest you make a stop here. From our local friends we met on the train, then from us to you, don’t miss out on Groot Vlaenderen.
