It is rustic and awesome. There are lots visitors. Better buy your tickets soon to secure your place at your convenience. In addition, while using the machine to buy your tickets just scroll down and check buy otherwise you will be giving up on purchasing the tickets. That said, I enjoyed climbing the 366 steps of the tour. At each level, there is a kind of rest place: view and learn something before moving up. I found that very interesting as I do not need and have to walk up at once the steps. Once, at the top, I appreciated the fact that I spent 14 euros to buy the visit. It was pleasant being in the air and to have another perspective on the city. I Enjoyed.

The Belfort or Belfry is the iconic landmark in the center of Bruges. It’s a medieval bell tower built around the year 1240. We bought tickets online for a Tuesday 9:40 time slot. The booking system is super easy because it tells you how many tickets are left for each time slot, and you don’t need to book too far in advance. There weren’t too many people when we went but there were already people coming back down. There are some areas of the climb that are narrow, so just be mindful of that. It took us about 15 minutes to get to the top and when you get up there, it is so cool! You see the actual bell (beware, it’s LOUD, obviously since you’re right next to it) and you can look down on the square. Although it’s not a complete 360 view since the bell blocks some of the access, it’s still a sight to see. The whole experience from going up, taking photos at the top, coming back down took us about 45 minutes. It did start getting a bit more crowded when we were heading back down, so my recommendation is to go early. Definitely a must see if you’re in Bruges!

Amazing view of the city and the literal central point of the city. We reserved and booked time slots the day before to go up but also it sells out quickly so try to book as early as possible. We also went on a weekend but it was in February. Lots of climbing but its not too bad, there are multiple levels you can stop and relax. The one right before the top is nice, you can see how the bells work. Last is the pure lookout point and you have a nice view of the city.

A UNESCO world heritage site located in the heart of the city. Absolutely stunning as it stands high in the sky. I could not stop admiring it as I stood for a long moment in the market square. Buying the tickets in advance is absolutely recommended. Unfortunately we could not enter inside because of the long waiting time, but the pictures from other visitors look really promising. Will definitely go to the top in our next visit.

It’s the city centre of Brugge (a city of historic importance in Belgium). This place has wonderful 360 degree panoramic views with beautiful architecture in Bruges. This area is surrounded by coffee shops, shopping area, stores and restaurants are nearby. The center is always lively. It's a must visit area if you are in Bruges.

We climbed up in the evening after dark. I imagine the views would have been better during the daylight hours but it was still nice to see the city lights and also the history of the tower. The stairs aren't too difficult to climb (for an early 30s couple) with plenty of landings and floors to take breaks at, however the spiral staircase is quite narrow in places so maybe not the best for people who are nervous of confined spaces. We bought tickets online in advance and not have to queue to get in.

(Translated by Google) The Belfort van Brugge (Dutch: Belfort van Brugge) is a medieval bell tower in the center of Bruges, Belgium. The market and the bell tower The bell tower was added to the market around 1240, when Bruges was an important center of the Flemish cloth industry. After a devastating fire in 1280, the tower was largely rebuilt. However, the city's archives were lost forever in the face of the flames. The upper octagonal stage of the bell tower was added between 1483 and 1487 and covered with a wooden tower with an image of St. Michael, flag in hand and dragon underfoot. The tower did not last long: a lightning strike in 1493 reduced it to ashes and destroyed the bells. A wooden tower crowned the top again for two and a half centuries, before it also fell into flames in 1741. The tower was never replaced, making the current height of the building slightly lower than in the past; but a Gothic Revival-style openwork stone parapet was added to the roof in 1822. A poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, entitled "The Bruges Belfry," refers to the checkered history of the building: In the Bruges Square is the old bell tower. and brown; Three times consumed and three times rebuilt, it still looks at the city. A narrow, steep staircase of 366 steps, accessible to the public for a fee, leads to the top of the 83 m (272 ft) tall building, which leans 87 centimeters to the east. On the sides and behind the tower is the former market hall, a rectangular building only 44 m wide but 84 m deep, with an inner courtyard. The bell tower, therefore, is also known as the Halletoren (hall tower). The bell tower is a key component of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the historic center of Bruges. The building is a central feature of the 2008 film In Bruges and is also mentioned in the novel Cloud Atlas.

Belfry of Bruges is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is really awesome place. Many tour operators are connecting Bruges with Brussels and Amsterdam. It is heard that view from Bellfort is breathtaking sight but unfortunately, they were not allowing visitors to the top of it when I visited. Some time, there will be massive crowd of tourists.

Amazing views! A serious amount of steps to get to the top and very narrow but totally worth it. Book in advance using the ticket machine at the bottom of the tower in the archway entrance. Aiming for quieter slots certainly makes the journey up and down the tower easier!

A must visit if you're in Bruges...and definitely if you've seen the movie. Tickets can be bought at the time or in allocated time slots in advance online. The stairs start off reasonably wide but get very narrow the nearer you get to the top. Anyon of a reasonable fitness level will be perfectly fine but don't worry as there are a few zooms on the way up that you can stop at should you need a rest. The views from the top are stunning although there is a wire mesh covering all the openings at the top. If the bell tolls at the top it will.probably make you jump. Overall I'd say it's pretty good value for money

I enjoyed climbing up this tower. You can see Brugge 360 degrees. Also, we were up there when the bell rung. It was loud but it was very neat to see the hammer hitting the bell... If you want to go to this tower and a number other points of interests in Brugge, get the Museum package for 3 days. It is worth it.

(Translated by Google) Being in Bruges, you cannot avoid climbing the steep and narrow steps of the spiral staircase that leads to the top of the civic tower (Beffroi), from the top of which you can enjoy a fantastic view of the city. Located in the square of the old market of Beffroi, the tower represents the symbol of the independence and wealth of the city and is by far the most photographed and visited place.

Great views from the square of the tower, even better views if you pay admission to climb to top. I was able to overlook Christmas village, just incredible and made my holiday season. It’s amazing how windy it was as I climbed up, you definitely feel the history as you ascend!

Historic bell tower in the city center of Bruges. There are about 275 steps to the top and the view from up there is worth the climb. You can have a panoramic view of the old city with canals and other churches and towers. If you have time, then I suggest that you book the tickets in advance to watch the sunset, if the weather permits.

Climbing the belfry was an amazing experience. It is not as tiring as I expected, since there are stops along the way up where one can rest. That said, the ticket price (at €14 on my visit) was a little much for a simple access to the steps with no extra features.

Bruges is a wonderful experience, small enough to see most in a day trip from Brussels if you are looking for something to do via one hour train. We also took a 30 minute boat tour that was great, remember to tip your guide as most people don't or won't, a little is better than nothing and they appreciate the gesture.

This is the main bell tower of Brugge and a must do on your visit. There are 366 steps to the top via a very narrow staircases towards the top of the tower. The ticket is for €12 per person and very much recommend to book in advance as there are limited slots per hour and they only allow people in a staggering manner to maintain space inside the tower The panaromic view of the town from the top is just breathtaking. The climb up to the top is for sure exhausting but the payoff is well worth it. On the top you can listen to the different tunes played up close and also take a peek at the musician who plays the tunes. Definitely recommend for your trip to Bruges

A lot of stairs but worth it. Some nice views and exhibits on the way up too. Stairs get narrower up towards the top and the stairs get smaller too. Just take your time and you can make it. Stop and see the floors and rest if needed.

It was not crowded at all in a weekday afternoon but it is always safe to buy tickets in advance. It has over 200 stairs going all the way up to the belfry tower. I am amazed how well preserved the structure was since you can literally see the structural elements made up of timber and masonry. And you get to see some exhibitions in intermediate floors about the belfry, the mechanism, the musics played and such. You can actually hear the bells ringing several times during a one hour trip. When you reach the top, panorama is incredibly beautiful. Tickets: €14

We paid 15 Euro to climb the 366 steps and it can be quite dizzy because of the constant spiral loop. But it didn’t take as long as we thought, nor was it as tiring as expected. There are platforms at different levels with information where you can take a respite from the climb. Beautiful view once you reach the top.

Very worthwhile to visit and to take all 366 stairs to the highest accessible point. Mind you, stairs are quite narrow and it takes a serious effort. Breathtaking view especially with clear weather, obviously. Ticket vending machine can be found in the passage that goes under/through the belfry tower building.

Nice view from the top of it but unfortunately there is net all around so you can take good picture with the view. Booked your ticket online to climb up 300 stairs. It is interesting to see the inside and learned some history. The stairs are a bit steep but given that they control the amount of people going up per time slot it’s not too crowded.

The Belfry of Bruges is an iconic symbol of this Belgian city, and visiting it is a journey into both architectural splendor and historical significance. The 13th-century tower stands tall in the heart of Bruges, offering breathtaking views of the medieval cityscape. Climbing the narrow, winding staircase is an adventure in itself, and the panoramic vistas from the top are truly rewarding. The Belfry, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is not merely a structure but a testament to Bruges' civic pride and economic prosperity. Its carillon, with its melodious bells, adds a charming soundtrack to the city's ambiance. The Belfry also houses a treasury, showcasing the wealth and craftsmanship of bygone eras. While the ascent may be a challenge for those not fond of heights or confined spaces, the experience is well worth it for the history enthusiast or anyone seeking a unique perspective on Bruges. The Belfry of Bruges stands as a towering reminder of the city's rich past, blending architectural grandeur with a sense of timelessness.

Magnificent specimen of architecture! You must visit the Belfry during different times of the day. At dawn, it's tranquil and you can enjoy the tower without the distractions of large crowds. At night, the lighting brings out a different side of the tower. In the afternoons, there is a lot of commercial activity in the square and you can see the square being enjoyed by the locals. See the photos and videos for views of the Belfry and its chimes being played. It is unfortunate that lots two stroke motorcycles and mopeds regularly pass through the square and disturb the peace. They are so incongruous here.

Tough climb to the top if you are not fit, but the view is DEFINITELY worth it. At the top, the ledges even have the direction and distance of each European city engaged in them. The top of the belfry gives you a full 360 panoramic view, and if you time it correct, you will be up there when the bells chime (it's LOUD).

€15 seemed a bit steep for entry but it was a lovely view at the top. We had to wait a bit as the tower was at capacity and I shudder to think what it’s like during summer (we came in late Feb when it rained all day). The staircase is one way and there’s a lot of stopping and waiting for people to pass. The information along the way is super informative and interesting. I would like to reiterate other reviews that if you’re not physically fit you will have a tough time. If you’re also claustrophobic I wouldn’t recommend it either. I would say you can get up and down in 20 mins easy and that’s with taking your time, reading everything and taking pics!

An interesting tower to climb up. It's 83m high and 366 steps to get up to the top. I rushed up in less than 10 minutes to get there by 11am to hear the bells chime the hour. You can then stop at a number of rooms along the way to read ablut the history of the tower, which is over 800 years old. I'd say it was worth the 15 euros

Went in December on a Weekday and there was absolutely no line, and if you time it well you can watch the huge brass tone drum turn and then 15 minutes later have the bells ring all around you when you're at the top. Beautiful views too! The windows at the top do all have wire across them but if you're using a phone for pictures you can fit the lens between the wire to take uninterrupted photos of the view.

Valuable time spent well with a climb to the top. Staff were friendly and helpful. Especially the kindly spoken young lad with the 3 day growth. The walk to the top was a tight fit at times and rewards the punter with not only an amazing view but a close up demonstration of the bells at work every 15 minutes. Beautiful Bruges

Really nice visit - doesn't take too long - we had a museum pass so it was free. We hadn't booked a slot so we initially thought we'd have to come back later in the day but they let us in anyway cause it wasn't that busy :) The stairs get pretty steep/narrow/uneven as you go up. But the view is amazing and the music from the bells is very impressive and plays music every 15 minutes

City "must see" some people call it as a small Venice, I'm not. It's unique by itself, but it's not Venice. But still beautiful and nice. I suggest to take a boat tour, on summer of 2020 it was 10€ per adult. And the best difference from Venice, it's not so overcrowded by tourists, you can really enjoye the city and fell in love.

You get a view from about 80 meters which is magnificent (and dependent on the weather). If you want just the bird's view then its 5 stars. Inside Belfry is (too) small exposition showing history of the tower, bells. Personally, I missed information on how the tower was built, unfortunately the guide didn't know either. And better lightning! You can barely see the intrigue mechanism of the clock, bcs it's covered in darkness. That's a huge pity and my reason for 3 only :(

Bruges is a picturesque town, few hours drive from Brussels, it is also easily accessible by train. This historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are very unique architecture in Bruges that tourists come from all over the world to admire. The town is not very big, there are many cafe and restaurants around and i took a few hours to walk around

What a fun experience especially with kids. Our kids are 4 & 5 and did the climb by themselves. Make sure to take in the views and wait for the bells to run while you’re up.

Amazing! Simply weird tower that makes you see so much of the beautiful Bruges from above. I only wish I was there in the morning when the bell guy plays the bells, apparently he can play "Don't worry be happy" and Game of Thrones songs. Who knew? Some fascinating stairs, history and very heavy bells, certainly worth visiting if you still have money after eating all and I mean ALL of the chocolate and drinking all the super tasty beers 🍫☕🍺🍻

  • 5/5 Caleb C. 1 year ago on Google
Really cool and fun piece of history. The tower sounds every fifteen minutes and it’s beautiful. The restaurants that surround the square are largely tourist, but it makes for a fun place to sit and enjoy the music.

  • 5/5 Patricia M. 1 year ago on Google
Definitely worth going all the way up there! We went on a weekday so there was barely any wait. The ticket was 14 euros. We heard it could be crowded over the weekend so plan accordingly. Lots of stairs, just take your time. People are generally nice and wait for others to pass by the other direction so it wasn't really dramatic as the stairs became narrow. The tower still has its authentic feel, how it's built and you'll get a piece of this history in the tower. The wind is strong when you reach the top and the view is lovely. Go up!

  • 5/5 Zee L. 1 year ago on Google
A wonderful bell tower that's def hard to miss when in Bruges. The tickets were 12€ per person and worth it. There are about 300 steps to the top and the stairs can be narrow and that's why I wouldn't recommend it to parents bringing up young children however amazing the view.

  • 5/5 Micah T. 1 year ago on Google
Amazing 360 views of Brugge from the top! The historic aspects of the building, and seeing the bells, drum based music system is also a great experience. It is like you are in a giant music box overlooking a beautiful city. The signs that explain the history and engineering are also done well in multiple languages (Dutch/Flemish?, German, English, Spanish). Worth the visit for sure.

  • 5/5 Mathew L. 1 year ago on Google
The obvious standout in Brugge, standing tall and looking out across every inch of the city, while being noticable from almost every corner of the city. The Belfry is as historic as it is stunning, deserving every bit of awe it attracts from the centers many visitors. Well worth the climb to the top of the bell tower, the views are incredible over the city of Bruges and the market square. Highly recommend buying tickets in advance and climbing early to avoid the crowds.

It's just breathtakingly beautiful with extraordinary history! Would have absolutely loved to have more time there, had a few hours with only an hour and a half off- wasn't nearly enough time to explore all the cute shops and restaurants. Oh wow and please do yourself a favour and buy some Belgian chocolates- they are incredible!

  • 4/5 Marta S. 10 months ago on Google
Pretty view, and the stairs are very doable. For the price, I did expect to get a bit more things to see museum-wise. I thought the different levels were like an actual museum, but there were only texts with information and some bells.

Historic place to see in Bruges. Lost of cafe and restaurant nearby. The centre in front of belfry is always lively. The look from the history museum of Bruges is nice, covering the centre, belfry and all around. Must visit area. Will also find the city tour van and tourists guide in front of it.

  • 5/5 Paul P. 11 months ago on Google
We had a walking tour around the center with Mathias Gilles. It wasn't the best day weather wise, but the tour and the guide were awesome. We did not go into the tower or any museums. You need to spend a few days there to cover major landmarks. Every museum or landmark entrance will cost you 18 Euros. Watch the movie In Brugge, where the city is beautifully pictured

  • 5/5 Joe C. 10 months ago on Google
Great views of the city, but it is a bit of a workout getting to the top. There are a couple of points to stop and catch your breath, though. You booked your ticket in advance, so there was no waiting to get in.

  • 5/5 Gaurav B. 1 year ago on Google
Went to see the famous Belfry of Bruges in the morning slots. No queues. Didn't find the climb too challenging. The stairs are quite narrow so if there is a crowd it can take time. The view was breathtaking despite being a cloudy day.

  • 5/5 Martin Morales R. 10 months ago on Google
Amazing landmark with a lovely view. Be aware that you have to climb all the way up as this requires significant physical effort. Book your tickets in advance in the machine at the entrance.

  • 5/5 Hari P. 10 months ago on Google
You may call it as clock tower of burges, Belgium. It was build in 1240AD. The famous old poem described it as "in the market-place of Bruges stands the belfry old and brown;Thrice consumed and thrice rebuilded, still it watches o'er the town."

  • 4/5 Leo B. 8 months ago on Google
Buy tickets in advance especially during high season. 366 steps till the top with some rest places in between. Watch out for bell ringing times when you're on top. One level down it's fun to see the music roll going. On top you've a good view, only some difficulty trying to take picture through the wire mess.

  • 5/5 Arabella C. 8 months ago on Google
Beautiful views of the city. Make sure you pre-book as it sells out really quickly. Loud up the top with the bells and the stairs are no easy climb with 366 steps to climb in total but would definitely recommend for the views.

  • 5/5 alexandra diana r. 8 months ago on Google
Recommend you buy tickets online in advance, or at the vending machine at the bottom of the tower , or last instance at the entrance. There are tickets / time-slots , so they run fast (I think max 25 for every 20min) The climb is indeed manageable, as there are floors in between.

  • 5/5 Laura C. 5 months ago on Google
800 year old clock tower of Bruges with 366 steps up to the top. Well worth the ticket price for the views from the top. If you book your tickets for 20 minutes before the hour, you should make it to the top as the clock chimes. Amazing experience.

Brugge is really beautiful and fantastic to visit. You need minimum 2 days to finish all. Every corner is full of history and very nice buildings. It can be little bit crowded at the weekends, and you can go thru small streets to escape from the crowd.

  • 5/5 Mark C. 7 months ago on Google
An amazing experience, really enjoyable. I recommend go early, we did the first session of the day as it wasn't too crowded. You do need a reasonable level of fitness to climb the 366 steps.

  • 5/5 Moo M. 6 months ago on Google
Really enjoyed going up the Belfry, 300+ steps, but worth the price and effort to get amazing views over Antwerp. As you ascend, there are areas to rest, if needed, and learn more about the belfrys history. If you time it right, you will also see and hear the huge musical drum work as it strikes the time. The top bit is protected from birds by a black plastic mesh, but its easy to get round this for photos, by lining up your phone or camera lens to get the awesome pics! Staff were friendly and welcoming too👍

  • 5/5 Mohamed E. 5 months ago on Google
The Belfry of Bruges is a marvelous creation. The place itself, the surroundings, the ringing bells, and the all of the surrounding atmosphere make the experience of visiting it a unique one. Although I didn’t get the chance to climb the stairs, I will make sure I do when I come back to Bruges.

A nice and worthy place to visit. Ticket can be bought at the machine at the gate or at the counter. It takes an effort to walk upstair to reach the top but it will pay back with a amazing view from the tower. We spend one hour inside there.
