A wonderful gothic Church that dates back to the 12th century, it is important to make sure you see the Madonna of Bruges, a 520 years old masterpiece. It is the only Michelangelo sculpture to leave Italy during his lifetime! It was stolen by the Nazzis and hidden in a salt mine in Austria.

Beautiful church with an astonishing collection of art. Small fee to enter and see the pristine collection is more than worth it. Wether you are an art lover or a religious person (or both!) it’s a must see, and a quick visit.

A magnificent 13th century church which also became a museum for the fact that it hosts the only piece of Michelangelo sculpture outside of Italy. The church from inside is full with beautiful marble sculptures, wooden carvings and relics. You cannot miss this, as the soaring bell tower can be seen from miles away. A must visit regardless of your faith and beliefs.

Beautiful interior. The fact that a Michelangelo statue is here makes this church a worthy place to stop at. You can feel the Flemish heritage here and the medieval vibes.

How can one resist to see a Michelangelo sculpture? Many other beautiful paintings and sculpture in the church too. Oh and!! here is the tomb of last Duke of Burgundy Charles the Bold and his daughter Mary who died fell off the horse, thus handing the Flanders territory to Austria. What a sad ending to a magnificent medieval power.

Gorgeous church. Lots of artwork inside - paintings and statues. It's like a museum. Literally, you have to pay an entrance fee. It has a Michelangelo statue, that they say is the only one outside Italy.

Beautiful church, a must see. I recommend circling the entire structure from the outside to see everything (like the garden and bridge near the Groeninge Museum).

So many beautiful pieces of art in addition to the actual parts that make up the church itself. Somewhat crowded but the size of the church allows all to feel unhurried. Sat for a while just gazing at the Madonna statue but there's much more to see. Highly recommend!

An architectural masterpiece. Both inside and out. You can pop in the side door for free and take advantage of the gardens outside as well. If you crave more, then you can purchase a ticket to explore more inside as well. It’s a very popular tourist spot so prepare for crowds during the day.

Beautiful place pop into for a visit if in Brugge. The pulpit has to be seen to be believed and the vaulted ceiling is simply an amazing feat of engineering! Some beautiful religious iconography to view including a reliquary with some of the arm bone of St. Anthony The Abbot (in pics). There is another area with more art but this is a paid area and we didn't visit this time.

This Church is located next to the art museum, so it works well to plan the two together. Right now there is an active archaeological dig next to the church. It is interesting to spend a little time watching them work.

Went to see Madonna and child by Michelangelo and found so much more. Amazing architecture, painted crypts in the floor, history going back centuries, beautiful marble sculptures, wood carvings and reliefs. Everything was so beautiful.

It's a beautiful church but in usual days it is overcrowded (just like most of the places in Brugge). However, I would say it's anice place to pass by if you are here. I haven't been inside it's museum though, therefore can't comment on that. But if you ask me, the church looks much nicer from outside!

Well organized, Friendly staff! Loved that they had these signs/cards next to almost every pieces of art which had multiple languages and explaining it to lone travelers like me who didn’t have any expert guide to do that for them

Very beautiful church on its own merit. Michelangelos Madonna makes it extraordinary. Must not be missed if you are visiting Bruges

Must visit when in Brugge! Buy an entrance ticket in the museum ticket office (grey metal construction to the left from church entrance) if you wish to see the Tomb of Mary of Burgundy and the statue of Madonna with child by Michelangelo.

A magnificent place full of amazing pieces of art. You can enter the church free of charge, but half of it is available to see only with tickets. It's worth it! It's so impressive to see so many original ancient paintings.

The collection of art from several centuries and locations here is astonishing. While the church and museum will not take you a lot of time to see, it is well worth the visit. Parts are free, but if you want to see Michelangelo’s Madonna a child, it will cost 8 euro (which is well worth it).

Beautiful and you can see Michelangelo's Madonna of Bruges. It is free to get in the church and then you pay to see the statue

Beautiful cathedral with paintings and sculptures. More exhibits including Madonna by Michelangelo can be viewed by buying a 23 Euro ticket.

Incredible. 17th century art, historical artifacts, unique sarcophagi and serene atmosphere with excellent signs in multiple languages. And of course, the magnificent statue of the Virgin Mary and Christ by Michaelangelo. Pay the extra cost of €2 when visiting the palace or buy the museum pass. Don't miss this.

Beautiful architecture. Highest tower in the city. Inside is part of art collection free, and the other museum part is paid.

Beautiful church with a hidden gem. The Madonna by michelangelo. Another item that was constantly stolen and returned. Mary of Burgandy and her father are buried there too. The church has great detail and preserved well.

The building is Gothic but the interior is beautifully Baroque, unexpectedly light. There's an entrance to the museum which might be interesting.

A nice church both inside and outside. It's worth stopping by inside, there's a lot to see and a devout atmosphere.

We went to see The Madonna with Child and it was magnificent! The cathedral is very impressive. It was worth the cost! Great stop!

If you’re in Bruges don’t miss this. The only Michelangelo outside of Italy is housed in this church. There’s an €8 fee to go into the area of the church housing many of its most precious assets. We came on a Sunday afternoon & it was not crowded at all but neither was the town.

The church itself is not that great - the outside looks lovely but inside it seems like a weird mix of modern and old, which seems kind of out of place. However, the surrounding area is really nice.

It is a quite popular church with amazingly beautiful architecture. The interior looks very modern though due to, what I believe, the restoration works. We were lucky to be able to witness some kind of a ritual dance by a lady during our visit. It has a seperate chapel in which you can pray.

A fantastic church the architecture is really interesting and it also has a lot of exhibits in it.really interesting and the history is amazing. There is a piece of wall with the old Muriel on it from after 1380, There is a sculpture with a piece of arm bone from St. Anthony the Abbot. There is a painting 'Our Lady of Perpetual Succour' 1660 and lots more.

Amazing church. Very rich in history and a museum also. You can spare a couple of change, just to view the magnificent work of michealangelo or just view the paintings inside this church.

One of my favorite churches in the world. Absolutely beautiful. You can enter the church for free but it is very much worth the price to see the additional areas with the painted graves, additional frescos, coats of arms of the knights of the golden fleece, tombs of Mary of Burgundy and Charles the Bold, and of course Michelangelo's Madonna with Child sculpture.

  • 5/5 Ivo L. 1 year ago on Google
Nice church to visit. They say it has the only original Michelangelo sculpture out of Italy. A lot of coat of arms can be found at the church. Signifying it was impotrant point for noble bloodlines.

Bruges Madonna was the highlight. Michaelangelo was a genius. Do take a bit if time to enjoy the sculpture. Tip: listen to episode 10 of the stuff about things podcast while viewing the sculpture

  • 5/5 Hans L. 1 year ago on Google
Oh . Once entering the museum area in the church - one gets peace and quiet. The open area is like a crowded busstation - but the museum are is calm. And of course most people head fot the Michelangelo Madonna statue. It’s precious.

It is full of interesting religious and historical artifacts. And it is quite an experience to see a crucified body all around a temple.

Beautiful museum with an original Michaelangelo sculpture inside. As a Bruges resident I was able to visit cost-free, but the price is definitely worth it nonetheless.
