Just to see the Virgin and Child with Canon van DER Paele is worth a visit. What an amazing painting, think about how old that painting is and the color still popping (I want you to remember what year it is and look at another painting of the same period in the museum.) And the atmosphere around this museum is very nice too.

One of the most entertaining art museums ever. Six hundred years of Flemish art that is so amazing, bizarre, violent, reverent, detailed and macabre that you can stare at one painting for ever just pointing out the glory of it all. We had a blast.

Gorgeous museum with so many works of Flemish artists from different centuries from Van Eyck, Hans Memling to Magritte. Van Eyck’s works are very detailed, very impressive that they are almost 600 years old..

This museum is a great trip through the history of Belgian Art. It starts with the old masters, featuring a beautiful piece of Jan Van Eyck, before moving forwards all the way to modern art. While the modern section is distinctly lacklustre, the older art is all well worth the visit. The only disappointment was the minimal information in the information accompanying the art. You are able to follow along on a phone via their website, but the descriptions are sometimes quite short and don't always explain much about the detail of the painting. It is also a little on the pricey side, but that's everything in Bruges, so it is perhaps not surprising.

Beautiful museum with lovely paintings. It was a bit dark in some rooms, which made it difficult to read the information cards. Otherwise no complaints!

Beautiful museum curating the work of various famous Flemish artists. Very well kept and bright. You can do it in less than an hour, if you are in a hurry but you can also spend an entire day, if you want to listen to all the audio guides. A must if you visit Bruges!

For anyone who likes paintings, I wholeheartedly recommend. From the Flemish primitives and their incredible care for detail, to the magnificent neoclassical portraits, to the moving expressionism and the intriguing surrealism. I felt all the life was there...

What a gem! The museum detailed the evaluation of the artistic development solely focused on artists related to Bruges arranged in chronological order. Content is really well explained and labeled. I feel like I am taking a Flemish paining history class here. Loved it! There is of course Van Eyke, Memling, Campin, Van De Weyden… even somehow there is a Bosch and a Pieter Bruegel II. I saw some amazing landscape painting by Cooseman and Asselberg!

A truly gorgeous gallery! This museum has a great digital tour, that provides you with plenty of information as well as some audio snippets detailing the artworks. Unfortunately the Hieronymus Bosch panels are currently loaned to another museum, but there's still so much stunning work to see. Don't skip this one, it's very much worth your time.

Groeninge Museum in Bruges is a cultural haven! Marvel at an exquisite collection of Flemish and Belgian art spanning centuries. The masterpieces on display are a testament to the city's rich artistic heritage. The museum is thoughtfully curated, providing a seamless journey through the evolution of art. For tourists, the audio guide offers insightful commentary in multiple languages, enhancing the experience. Conveniently situated in the city center, it's easily accessible. Take your time to appreciate the diverse artworks, including the renowned Flemish Primitives. Een onmisbare culturele ervaring in Brugge!

Beautiful museum in the quaint town of Brugge, with a wonderful collection of artworks by the Flemish primitives, a group of painters such as Hans Memling, Rogier van der Weyden and Gerard David, among many others, characterised by the exquisite eye to detail and mastery of oil painting. Some of the works are truly outstanding, and most rooms in the museum offer a little guide to understand them. However, I think the entrance fee is a little bit expensive considering the size of the museum. Nevertheless, I totally recommend it if you're passionate about art.

One of the best fine arts museums in Belgium, specially if you are interested in the “Flemish Primitives”. The first three Rooms will guide you through the origins and evolution of the art of painting in Flanders during the XV century.

(Translated by Google) It is said to be a city museum built on the site of the Order of Saint Augustine in 1930. I visited when I stayed in Bruges for 2 nights while traveling in Europe. It's a museum that I want to take a closer look at, but the city itself is also a good place, so I focused on watching my favorite works and went out to the front so that my back hair would be pulled. Excuse me.

I'm usually not one to go to art museums, it's just not my jam. But of course I needed to make an exception for the Groeninge Museum. And I'm glad I did. I ended up spending almost 3 hours inside and enjoyed every bit of it. Here you will have the chance not only to see amazing art works but also to learn a fair amount of fascinating history.

This is a delightful, relatively small gallery with very fine artworks from the 13th to the 20th Century, those till the 19th primarily of artists linked to Bruges and the wider Flanders. The Burgundian Court in Bruges could attract the finest artists and did so. There are many artists you will recognise, and the ones you don't will make you wonder why you haven't heard of them. It is a well hung and well curated display. If you like fine art this is an hour or so very well spent.

Small museum with Flemish artists from five centuries. Well worth a visit (Takes about 60 minutes)

  • 5/5 David B. 2 years ago on Google
Great museum, a great overview of Flemish painting through the centuries. The famous "Laatste Oordeel" (maybe "Judgement Day" in English?) painting by Hieronymus Bosch is currently on loan to a museum in Budapest, so if that work is the main reason to visit Bruges and/or the museum, then you should check if it's been returned already (or maybe go to Budapest instead).

Contrary to other comments we did not have to reserve. We arrived spontaneously between 3pm and 4 pm and we have not regretted coming. It was a great visit. There are 2 master paintings of Jan van Eyck and other great paintings of flemish master painters. We had a fantastic time looking at those meticulous, acribic and incredible works of art. The museum shop is also a nice one and if you wants to offer them as a gift, the woman packs them beautifully with a butterfly-decoration. She's also really friendly. So, if you're in Bruges, that's THE museum you should go to.

Lovely museum filled with works of Flemish artists, mostly paintings. Works range from as early as 1400s to present day. Very impressive to see the detail and quality that the early artists were able to accomplish.

Beautiful, not too big art gallery. Enjoyed the classic art, some pieces are truly outstanding, not big fan of contemporary pieces but that is up to everyone's taste. Interesting entry via side streets with pointers was already cool experience before even entering the building.

Great selection of Flemish art throughout the centuries with a focus on Bruge. Lots of information available and superb chronological structure for every area. Unfortunately, the price is a little high for what you get (it’s a fairly small museum), and we were kind of unlucky to miss on a couple of works by Bosch and Pourbus that were on loan at the moment. The staff didn’t seem to care about loud visitors either and, in that sense, the experience was not the best. Other museums in Europe make sure to enforce silence in the rooms - this was not the case. Wished respectfulness to the works and rest of the visitors had been higher.

A quiet, enriching place with just the right amount of art and explanations to leave you feeling educated and inspired. Priceless art that shows well-earned pride in Belgium’s roots and influence in the world of art.

  • 5/5 Tim I. 11 months ago on Google
Amazing collection with some seriously incredible paintings. It's a shame more people weren't visiting as Bruges itself was really busy, but the gallery itself was relatively quiet. That was good for me, but more people should see the painting, especially those from the so-called Flemish Primitives.
