I was up at Union reservoir and the beautiful Loon lake before the fires closed the forest down. It’s on of, if not the most, beautiful forests I’ve been lucky enough to visit. Unfortunately too many people don’t respect the forest and leave trash everywhere, destroy nature, and generally have no respect for themselves or other visitors. Certainly this is one of many reasons the forest services are starting to charge for everything. It use to be free and easy. Not so much anymore. Ignorance ruins everything.

Absolutely breathtaking. Whether you are day hiking, back packing, camping or whatever, you need to get out here. It can get pretty hot in the summer so remember sunscreen and water. Winters are snow filled with very restricted access and most areas are closed. If you haven't been and you are the outdoors type, then do yourselves a favor and go. The longer you spend and deeper you go, the more beautiful it gets so definitely plan ahead and invest some time. It's well worth it.

I live on the edge of the ENF.Some of this area is known around the world. Example the great Rubicon Trail , Desolation wilderness, etc. This area has been my back yard since I was a child. God's creation, fall colors here never grow old.

Beautiful area. We love to get down by the creeks and tent camp. If you go far enough back in you won't see many people at all, if any. The plants are amazing, so green and lavish. The water temp is very nice in July. I enjoyed these forests as a kid and now I'm doing the same with my kids.

Stunning forest with amazing views and great roads. It's sad to see the trees that died due to the fire last year. Hope it recovers from that soon. We go twice a year.

In the words of Thoreau..."heaven is under your feet, and above your head". This place is a magical unexpected gem. Just an hour and a half from Sacramento. And just 40 mins before Lake Tahoe. The Horseshoe trail head is a little ambiguous at the start. It's also a more difficult trail for the first 400 feet up. But once you are on your way up, you will be rewarded with splendid scenery. And massive granite formations. The waterfalls are a treat. And a good way to cool off. It's easy to escape everything. With just a few steps into these woods. I will be back....very soon!

Nice place to have a picnic and you can let your kids play in the creek. There are a few good swiming holes if you want to hike along it. It's good clean water

How can a National Forest not be a five star experience? Great places to go camping, shooting, hiking and swimming. Caldor burn scar sucks though.

So grateful I was able to make a last minute trip for the end of the hiking season. Saw a bit of snowfall which really topped the journey! It was the first time my dog Cleo saw snow, which was a treat!

Beautiful beautiful place! Love coming here with my boys! Even found an agate on the side of the road on our way home. Use the All Trails App and you'll never be bored. So many adventures to be had!

So this I've been to alot of the national forests in California. The government has actually provided some forest management to this part of the mountains. Beautiful part of the country with a healthy population of wild animals. Love it up there.

Wheeled in with some friends for a few nights. Our group never winched or had to pull each other out. But we saw other groups pulled each other out. Better to bring recovery gears. Be mindful for the brand of recovery equipment because using recovery gears is not a joke, it's very dangerous so choose a high quality brand. Like miolle recovery brand, for me that brand is proven and tested. A spotter is definitely needed. Completed the trail in 2 days, camped at Buck Island one night.

It's like the Yosemite of the North. Iron mountain snow park / ski resort has great views of the back side of Kirkwood and plenty of places for snow play. Only there's no one there to operate the lifts . Haha that's because it's been closed since the '80s as a ski resort

Be a good person!! Other campers don't want to hear your music. Sound travels in the forest. Silence after 10pm. Clean up your stuff AND whatever else you've found. Just *basic* manners any good person has.

Very good park, as someone already said, its a really beautiful place to camp. Unfortunately a lot of people leave their trash at some of the camp spots. There's lots of free camping around. And plenty things to do in certain areas. I wish people would follow the guidelines so they don't ruin the experience for everyone else. PET FRIENDLY! We took a few off-road trails, found a few good spots to go shooting. There are OHV, ATV, and dirt bike trails. We were near plenty of creeks and little rivers. Lots of hiking and spots for mountain biking. Didn't see much wildlife, you can easily hear the birds in the morning. Make sure you bring bug repellent, lots of mosquitoes. Will definitely be back
