For
our
first
trip
to
Aruba
we
stayed
at
the
Renaissance
Marina.
The
selling
point
for
us
staying
here
was
Flamingo
Island
as
well
as
the
adult
only
side
of
the
property.
While
the
Flamingo
Island
was
cool,
I
could
see
how
it
could
be
a
nuisance
to
not
be
able
to
walk
directly
onto
a
beach
and
instead
have
to
boat
over.
The
family
side
had
two
pools
and
a
swim
up
bar,
whereas
the
Marina
side
only
had
one
pool
overlooking
the
ocean.
The
two
pools
have
a
massive
slab
of
concrete
in
the
middle
where
chairs
can
be
placed.
(I
found
out
that
there
were
flowers
and
trees
in
the
middle
of
the
pool
but
removed
due
to
the
high
maintenance).
I
was
quite
disappointed
to
find
out
there
was
no
jacuzzi
on
either
sides
of
the
property.
Now
specifically
for
the
Marina
side,
I
wasn’t
“wowed”
by
the
rooms.
Someone
knocked
on
our
room
door
the
same
day
to
apply
pest
treatment
(yikes),
the
fridge
was
not
plugged
in,
and
bathroom
door
was
backwards
so
if
you
closed
the
sliding
door
entirely
you
would
need
to
have
someone
on
the
outside
open
it.
We
had
to
run
the
water
for
about
10
minutes
before
it
got
warm.
Other
strange
things
I
noted
were
the
fact
we
declined
to
have
housekeeping
enter
our
rooms
when
we
first
checked
in,
yet
housekeeping
came
everyday.
As
platinum
members
we
get
free
breakfast.
In
my
personal
opinion,
$24
for
the
continental
breakfast
or
$30
for
the
egg
inclusive
breakfast
was
not
worth
it.
But
given
it
was
free
continental,
we
went
every
morning.
What
struck
me
as
strange
is
that
when
we
received
the
hotel
bill
for
the
week,
the
amounts
we
were
billed
were
larger
than
what
we
left
as
tip.
Further,
on
one
day
they
charged
us
the
full
$55.
When
I
brought
this
up
to
the
front
desk
they
removed
the
$55
charge
and
as
for
the
other
“weird”
amounts-
they
claimed
a
service
charge
was
included.
But
per
the
receipt
the
service
charge
was
$1.70.
Again-
not
a
huge
deal
but
kinda
strange
when
I
would
sign
off
on
tip,
and
then
the
tip
we
got
charged
to
the
room
was
double.
I
thought
maybe
the
waitresses
thought
I
left
it
in
AFL
currency,
but
to
avoid
this
I
clearly
wrote
USD
next
to
my
total.
A
little
sketchy,
especially
when
the
breakfast
restaurant
Aquarius
was
the
only
location
that
butchered
the
bill
every
day
we
went.
(One
charge
was
even
billed
as
“lunch”.)
Also,
as
a
platinum
member
we
got
10%
of
food
or
drinks
on
the
property
but
this
was
negated
by
the
15%
service
charge
at
those
locations.
Had
I
known
more
about
Aruba,
I
definitely
would
have
opted
for
a
hotel
down
at
Eagle
or
Palm
because
where
more
bars
/
restaurants
were
at
your
disposal.
According
to
locals,
that
is
more
the
“new”
downtown,
whereas
our
area
was
quiet.
Had
I
not
booked
the
room
with
Marriott
points,
I
would
be
disappointed.
Next
time,
I
will
definitely
be
staying
at
the
Marriott
Stellaris.
