I have never felt so utterly disgusted with the human race as I did at this, "sanctuary" or " rescue". In order to be considered either of these, breeding needs to STOP, they are letting them ALL breed freely. The enclosures are FILTHY, as seen in photos. Excrement everywhere, no water, little food. An emaciated baby goat was in with a pig, no mother goat in sight. The monkeys were caged alone in very very small enclosures alone and they looked stressed. There was a lone ocelot in a cage with no food or water pacing back and forth in distress. This was nothing but Tiger King in Aruba. Absolutely do not recommend supporting this business. Humans are abominable.

This is definitely a mixed bag… on the one hand, we had a great time feeding the hoof stock (four legged) and they were almost all extremely gentle with taking the food from us so that I didn’t worry about my young daughter giving them treats from her open palm. But my impression was that this place cares more about ATVs than animals. In fact, I missed the turn into the parking area because I mistook the place for a storage yard for a fleet of ATVs. There were row upon row of them out front and more in the back of the animal enclosure area. We saw a few workers milling while we ambled about the animal yard but none of them seemed to care that we were there for the animals. Rather they were apparently busy with other needs of the place. And another downside- there is little to no interpretation of what these animals are or why they were there- no story at all to give you an idea of how they were rescued or why it’s important that they were. Not even any name placards or identification of species with only a couple exceptions! Granted, their website indicates a desire to upgrade their facilities, but my experience suggested that was secondary goal to keeping the ATV tours going (I’m sure there’s a lot of capital locked up in all those machines…). But again, I’m torn… I believe many of these animals may actually be better off in a rescue center than whatever alternatives they faced, and it was truly delightful seeing so many up close. But really, I think they could and should do better. The monkeys were thirsty. The birds looked distressed. And what really clenched it for me that the animals are secondary to whatever other business they have going was that the hand washing station at the exit was utterly neglected. It’s obvious that the animal “garden” is not foremost in their minds when even the basic needs of their guests (paying public) who came there for that experience of feeding animals are excluded from their thinking. I mean, after giving your hand to 50 slobbering goats and pigs you’ll want to clean your fingers with soap. Come on, Philip!!

Please do not go. This is the saddest place of the whole Antilles. Animals are locked up in very small cages and without any place to retreat from visitors. I cannot believe that anyone sane would appreciate this place. It is a pure abomination. The ostriches plucked their own feathers due to stress, the Aras are locked up separately in tiny tiny cages, and a monkey was locked separately in a cage too small for a dog. I will also be reporting this place to every animal welfare organisation I can find. In short; do not go! Philip's animal garden will only make you sad

This animal rescue center is really nice for doing what they do, and their setup is great to visit not just to support the cause, but to enjoy oneself with a great variety of animals! The admission of $10 US gets you a feeding bag to give to whatever animals (mostly) that you want, and it's easy to get around the site. There's also a cafe there if you get under the heat too much!

Lots of fun feeding the animals. The loose goat we decided to name Lola was our favorite, as she followed us around.

Phillips Animal Garden will only make you sad. I wish I could be as oblivious as some of the people giving this place good reviews. I wish I could be so unaware and have a good time. These animals don't really seem well taken care of. Granted, they have a decent variety and the entry fee is reasonably low at $10. Still, the animals are clearly very hungry, there's no water in most of their bowls, and the enclosures are too small for some of the animals. I couldn't even bring myself to finish it just from how it made me feel. On top of that, the entire place is filthy. There's practically no hand wash stations and they give you one bag of feed for ALL the animals. I guess the goats can eat the same thing as the ostriches or donkeys? Your money goes towards buying new ATVs for them to rent out. It's a shame. Allocating money to more rentals instead of using SOME of it to tend to the animal's care. You'll see rotten legs, open wounds, and a bunch of sad animals. I'm not an animal activist or anything like that but it's really disheartening. I'd recommend the Donkey Sanctuary over this. You can feel the difference in the animals right away.

Good experience. All visitors are given a little bag of snack for the four legged animals. It's not a zoo but it has a good amount of animals. The donkeys are very friendly. I was especially fascinated with the giraffe and the large about is turtles. The peacocks are so very beautiful It's a place I'd recommend

Fun for a day adventure. Something to see. However, Animals looked like they were in slightly poor conditions. Saw a Donkey roaming the grounds bleeding from the legs... Kids had fun

Love this place so very much!!! The camel stole my heart! All the animals here are rescues which made them even loveable. The staff was so kind and gave us extra feeding bags. I highly recommend visiting the animal garden. We visited 2/7/2022@9am

I had high hopes for this visit, but was very disheartened. Most of the animal enclosures had no clean water if they had water at all. The water we did see in the enclosures was green, obviously not changed for awhile. It is way too hot in Aruba to not have access to fresh water. The poor monkeys hold their hands out to you wanting attention. Many of the enclosures were very dirty. A baby monkey was in what looked like a small dog pen. After reading about how this facility got started I thought this would be a wonderful sanctuary. My heart broke for these animals.

Loved this place! Very well maintained, low price of only $10, huge variety of animals and exhibits. The staff are friendly and helpful. Can easily spend two hours here or more. They give you carrots and other food to feed the animals, which is really fun. Highly recommend!

I absolutely loved this place! Your entry fee includes a bag of food for the animals and they give you a good amount. You’re only allowed to feed the four legged animals so don’t feed the birds, monkeys, etc. Don’t worry there are A LOT of animals to feed and they are as greedy as ever. They have donkeys, goats, sheep, deer, tortoises, monkeys, birds, snakes - you name it. This is a must in Aruba so go and enjoy!

Phillips Animal Garden, a non-profit dedicated to rescuing exotic animals on Aruba, we visited the zoo as part of an ATV tour. While it may not be a standalone attraction, as part of a tour it is a nice place to visit and feed the animals.

I visit only those animal gardens where animals are rescued. I'm not 100% sure that this is that case, pelicans were rescued, but I'm not sure about the rest. We went there to see Kangaroo but Kangaroo passed away 2 years ago. Entrance fee is 10 usd Pp, at least animals has nice and big place.

I really don't know what to make of this place. It describes itself as an animal rescue, but I would be very surprised if all the animals here are actually rescues. I saw plenty of infant animals, which makes me think they're breeding them. It seems more like a combination rescue zoo / traditional zoo. For the most part, the animals looked well cared for. I saw some comments that some of the cages seemed small, but that's typical of rescue zoos (even well regarded ones in the US). Most of the animals seemed in good health, but there were some that seemed injured or under stress. Again, that's not uncommon in zoos that focus on animal rescue. Otherwise, it was a good experience. They give you a bag of food when you walk in, and you can feed most of the four legged animals. I went on a Sunday morning and the place was not crowded at all.

It was the start of a UTV tour. It is a nice area if you are into like a zoo vibe. But it was just really a filler before the start of utv. But I like the purpose of it. It was weird to see a camel in Aruba. I would not return.

What a wonderful place. So many rescued animals to see. You are able to feed some of them roam for a long time. There is also a play area and bar for a beverage to cool off. Family friendly!

Such a great experience. Wide variety of animals. Did not seem crowded because the space is so large to walk around. $10 a person and that included food to feed all 4 legged animals. Snack shop takes cash only so take cash.

Pros: -Lots of amazing animals (recommend the screaming goats and sheep) -Entry fee includes a big bag of mixed feed for the four-legged animals -It's huge; value for your money -There's a little drink shop in the middle Cons: -No signage for entry, we missed it as we drove past -Minimal to no signage for animals (didn't tell us the species or type, no "interesting facts", I think I saw one sign that said not to feed the monkeys, no directions to the bathroom) -No hand sanitising stations and no soap in the bathrooms -Some of the animals were alone in their pens and many had no water? Pro tips: -We found SO MUCH food on the ground near the pens. We used our paid food plus the carrots and food we found missed on the ground -Bring a hat and water as minimal shade -Bring wipes and hand sanitiser (seriously...)

We went with Around Aruba Tours ( an ATV tour). This was by far the best ATV tour I've ever been on, I highly recommend using them. We meet here at Philips garden. They gave us bags of food to go around and feed the animals. We absolutely loved this. These are all rescue animals, getting the best of care.

This is a fantastic day-trip while visiting Aruba. You’ll have to take transportation because it’s about 10 minutes from the hotels/resorts (Marriott Surf Club). They have monkeys, rabbits, goats, horses, snakes, birds, and more! The price was $10/pp and it included a bag of sliced carrots to feed the four-legged animals. This is our second visit and we highly recommend it.

Great sanctuary of animals with an extremely friendly staff. I wish I wouldn’t have forgotten my apples, but the staff gave my family and I carrots and pellets to feed the multitude of 4-legged animals on site! 99% of the animals are extremely friendly and approached, while there are just a few that keep their distance (you can still get great pictures though)!

First stop on our ATV tour and the highlight of our trip. The animals and the overall experience was phenomenal, the guides were excellent and I wish i would have went here sooner All of the animals were amazing but the monkeys were the best part. Feeding the animals and petting the ones that roam free made the experience amazing.

This was a great place to bring my 2 year old. They have such a great variety of animals and they allow you to feed them on the property. Plus they also have great walking paths and it’s very easy to move around and feel safe. This is a great spot that I would’ve not found if it wasn’t found on Google.

  • 5/5 Jess S. 3 years ago on Google
This was a phenomenal place to go to. Very easy to walk around in. About 50% ok for wheeled vehicle (scooter, wheel chair, non dirt road strollers). You are expected to go in to the grass and straight up to enclosure. You can feed all four legged animals but always make sure your bag of feed is away from them they will try to steal. Also you can feed to emu and ostriches buy be careful they might mistake your had as feed. It's a small pinch if they try for a finger nothing to bad. 90% of the animals are very gentle when taking carrot or pellets so this is perfect for little ones.

We were considering doing one of the many multi-stop tours in Aruba that included this hidden gem, but were so glad we missed the booking because (if you’re an animal lover like us) you want to take your time here and not have to rush through like you do on a tour. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the animal pens are spacious with an emphasis on animal well-being. All of the non-human inhabitants are rescues in various forms of rehabilitation and/or respite. Admission is reasonable and includes a bag of carrots to feed most of the four-legged tenants. We drove there on a slow day and were fortunate to befriend a young girl who lives there that was nice enough to walk with us and “introduce” us to many of the wonderful animals. You can tell that the staff truly cares about them. I recommend a stop here, but suggest you drive or take a taxi so you can spend as much time as you like without feeling rushed.👍

We had a lot of fun visiting the animal sanctuary. The admission was $10 per person and you receive a mixed bag of pellet food and carrots. There are a lot of animals to see (goats, donkeys, horses, a camel, turtles, etc). There were even some stray dogs roaming around. If we were to go again I would try and bring some other fruits and veggies to give to the animals. However, I do agree with some that the sanctuary was very sad. There were some animals all alone in their cages and some looked malnourished.

$10/person includes a bag of food for the animals. A good place to take the kids to let them see and feed the residents. Big snakes. The camel is very stealthy. If you aren't watching he'll snatch the bag of food right out of your hand. Bring water to drink. Right up the road is the Chapel of Our Lady of Alto Vista.

This place had interesting animals however I am concerned with their treatment. The monkeys were begging me to give them my water bottle when they saw it, shoving their fingers at the cap just to get a drop of water. If you are seeing this then please properly hydrate and feed your animals.

It was a nice for us a family to be able to feed all the different animals and all of them seemed friendly and eager to get treats. But the whole area looked dirty and a lot of the animals did not look good. Single caged monkey, parrot. Also really small areas for some of the animals that looked abandoned. I’m not sure if a rescue should look like this being caged in such conditions.
